My Next Life as a Villainess VN - Thoughts
Tumblr media
Considering the source material, I was surprised at how good this game was! It's unsurprisingly light-hearted and comedic, but most of the CGs are still great and the romances mostly worked. I appreciated how despite Catarina's black-hole level of denseness causing issues in basically every route, everyone tackled it differently and every relationship felt unique.
My biggest complaint is just that we were robbed of routes with the girls outside a "normal/friendship" ending, since the girls canonically ALSO love Catarina. Getting three extra routes for Mary, Sophia, and Maria would have been SO GOOD. But Alas.
While this game and story is definitely meant for fans of the light novels and/or anime, I think there's plenty of information for people new to the series to still enjoy it. I also appreciate how much content is added to the common route as you complete the routes of love interests. Expect SPOILERS below the cut, as I go into detail on my thoughts for each route.
My play order was:
Alan -> Keith -> Geordo -> Rozy -> Nicol -> Silva
Common Route: I won't linger too long on this, since the common route in this case was pretty short. It did its job, setting up the plot and introducing us to all the important characters, both new and old. But in terms of notable interactions with the love interests or MAJOR plot points, there isn't much of notice yet. All the choices that give affection for the guys pre-route split lead to very brief tangents/conversations, nothing substantial.
We do meet and immediately befriend Rozy in the common route, which is nice. Silva by comparison barely features here, but he's ALL OVER basically every route, so his absence here is honestly fine.
I do like that we learn about the sachets and their connection to Ryle Werder, since that plays an important role in several routes. The Witch's Eye, by comparison, perhaps receives TOO MUCH attention in the common route. It's only relevant in NICOL'S route and yet we learn about it when meeting ROZY, which seems odd.
Alan: Not counting the girls, when I watched the anime, Alan was my favorite love interest. Hence, I decided to start with him. And I wasn't disappointed! I like that it's pretty clear under "normal" circumstances that despite his love for Catarina, Alan would never rock the boat and confess to her. He acknowledges and respects that she's engaged to Geordo, and he's engaged to Mary.
Thus, for this love to bloom, the pair kind of NEEDS to be separated from the group and spend some quality time together, which is just what we get. Interacting one-on-one, these two have a very casual and easy relationship that appeals to me. They get along well and Alan is mostly charmed by Catarina's eccentricities. His one real problem with her is that she is reckless to the point of endangering her own life, and that's a fair criticism I think.
Since Alan wasn't planning on confessing, his struggle to "get through" to Catarina is mostly about making her understand that being reckless hurts and upsets the people that care about her, which he finally inadvertently succeeds at by... getting hurt himself while protecting her, causing HER to be upset.
It's a very sweet and subtly romantic moment, which I liked a lot. I like how this route, particularly the "memory scenario" bits, seemed to imply that deep down, subconsciously, Catarina ALWAYS has liked and favored Alan. He's the one she likes to just... hang out and spend time with, and thus when they spend a certain amount of time alone and have some (mostly accidental) romantic moments, she's quick to Catch Feelings, even if she takes a bit to acknowledge them.
The cherry on top to this route was his confession and how it was handled. When Alan accidentally confesses his feelings while saving Catarina from Frederic, due to her hangups about the whole "I'm a villainess in an otome game and all the guys should love Maria" thing she initially wants to doubt or misinterpret it - but Silva (who had earlier called out and WEAPONIZED Alan's feelings for his own gain) is quick to correct her, forcing her to acknowledge it. But the pair don't get to talk it out right away, leaving them to be noticeably awkward around each other until they do.
Only then, when it's unavoidable and necessary, does Alan fully confess. Because he knows Catarina NEEDS to hear this in order to fix their current relationship. But he immediately follows it up by telling her to forget it all - because he's genuinely content with just being friends with her and doesn't want to ruin things between her and Geordo.
I appreciate how much Alan is selfless and trying to do the right thing - and I appreciate it even more, comparing it to other routes to come. And Catarina refuses to forget because simply finding out how he feels is enough to make her recognize her own feelings, but she similarly resolves to talk things out with Geordo and Mary before confessing. The respect paid to their "official" partners and trying to properly end things before starting anything together is mature and wonderful, to the point where in Alan's happy end Geordo (reluctantly, but still entirely of his own volition, without outside pressure) gives them his blessing. It's sweet and satisfying.
Also, sidenote - I genuinely liked Liliana a lot as a side character and was disappointed she wasn't in any other route. On the other hand, that means she got to witness and support JUST Alan's romance and none of the others, so...
Keith: I won't lie, this is my least favorite route from a plot AND relationship standpoint. While basically ALL the other love interests find Catarina charming and endearing, it bothers me how Keith is always criticizing her. He loves her, but he's constantly trying to get her to act like a "proper noblewoman" instead of embracing her as she is. And from the perspective of a SIBLING, that's fine. But I HATE it when you're actively trying to mold your love interest's behavior and personality.
Across all the routes Catarina must have dreaded Keith lecturing her (explicitly acting like her mother, at that) more times than I could count. That's just NOT romantic. At all. And isn't a dynamic that can/should be TURNED romantic, IMO.
Another big turnoff for me is that Keith is one of two love interests who has... let's say a sense of entitlement to Catarina. He's actively hidden his feelings for years, AND YET he hates the idea of her with anyone else and actively tries to keep her away from her more aggressive suitors like Geordo. Unlike Alan and Nicol, who acknowledge their feelings but WILL NOT act on them in usual circumstances, Keith monopolizes Catarina's attention when he can and actively WANTS to be with her romantically... all while excusing the time and attention he gets by saying it's his right as her BROTHER.
The underhanded nature of how he gets her attention and his ulterior motives bothers me. At least Geordo is UPFRONT with his possessiveness and intentions, even if Catarina is too dense to notice.
On Catarina's end... I just struggle to buy her suddenly falling in love with him. This route makes it clear Keith is "special" in that she's quick to notice if he's not feeling well physically or emotionally; Catarina likes to TAKE CARE OF and DOTE ON Keith. That's pretty in-line with her seeing him as her brother, and honestly that same care and attention comes across in other routes where she clearly loves him PLATONICALLY, so it's hard for me to accept that not only does she quickly fall in love with him here but she confesses FIRST before Keith makes his own feelings clear.
As for the rest of this route's plot, I barely remember it. I wasn't invested in the conflict here - and that's not the case in most routes. Alan's route interested me with the relationship drama of Ryle & Liliana, Silva and Rozy had big political issues, and Nicol's was supernatural. Only Geordo's route was similarly dull in terms of non-romance content. The main thing I took away from the conflict here is I was unhappy how Keith's conflict of feeling weak and unable to protect Catarina was handled.
Rather than learning he didn't HAVE to protect her, that he was important/valuable to her without that, or something along those lines (leading to a more mutual and open dynamic, theoretically), it's resolved by... him finally being able to protect her. He had a BAD personal arc on top of a BAD romance on top of a BORING overall route/conflict.
Geordo: Like Keith, Geordo is pretty possessive and "entitled" to Catarina. Unlike Keith, I can at least somewhat understand why. He's literally engaged to her and has been for years. Beyond just his own hopes/feelings, there is an expectation that he WILL marry her eventually. I also appreciate that while he's initially not that forward, he's still open and obvious about his romantic affections. It's just that Catarina is PARTICULARLY dense with him.
She struggles to believe anyone could fall for her when Maria is Right There, but Geordo in particular she struggled to win over "in game", and despite years to get used to the idea she still doesn't seem to realize how much people and relationships have changed due to her actions. Thus she can't envision him EVER loving her romantically and finds a way to misinterpret his every action.
Whereas Keith just kind of... snapped and wasn't able to hold back his feelings in his route after spending too much time alone with Catarina, Geordo by comparison is very DELIBERATE in making more aggressive moves. And again, I think it's narratively justified albeit kinda messed up. While he is used to the usual rivals and felt relatively secure that they wouldn't/couldn't steal Catarina out from under him... suddenly Silva enters the equation and NOW he feels threatened.
As a pirate, Silva wouldn't care about Geordo's title or his claim to Catarina. If he chooses to steal her away or if Catarina just comes to like him, there's NOTHING Geordo can really do. Thus, he couldn't afford to be patient anymore and he got desperate.
He thought he had time to win her over, but now he had to progress things FAST or risk losing her. His actions make sense, and by making his feelings clear earlier on in the route, Catarina has more time to think about it and figure out her own feelings.
I think it's notable that none of the other love interests, despite their own feelings for Catarina and their frustration for how Geordo handles things (since he says some nasty things and unintentionally hurts her while revealing his feelings), actually try to PREVENT Geordo from "winning" Catarina. The girls even come around to SUPPORTING him despite loving Catarina as well.
Geordo's "entitlement" to her is reasonable. He's not guaranteed her love, but he is the most justified in expecting it and acting possessive by virtue of their engagement. While Mary may plot to run away with her, while Keith might secretly want her for himself, while Sophia tries to push Nicol to pursue her... EVERYONE acknowledges on some level that unless Catarina actively falls for someone else (which looks increasingly unlikely as time goes by), Geordo IS her endgame by default. And they respect that. They are all prepared for this marriage to eventually happen; Geordo by comparison on other routes is typically NOT prepared for Catarina to suddenly fall for someone and want to break things off.
His crime is of being complacent and then poorly handling it when he realizes just that. I personally can forgive that a lot easier than Keith's... everything, and a lot of what happens in Rozy's route, too.
On Catarina's end, the extra time she got to think about Geordo's feelings and re-contextualize a lot of their earlier interactions while also being more aware of the romantic implications of later ones served her well. While I personally imagine Alan and Nicol as the two guys she's lowkey into "by default" judging from their routes, it was easy enough to see Geordo's efforts to win her over actually paying off near the end, and her accidentally acknowledging her realization of "maybe I love Geordo" out loud, TO HIS FACE, was great. The non-romance plot of this route was fairly dull, but I found the romance very engaging so it evens out!
Rozy: I was impatient and just had to give one of the new love interests a go before doing Nicol. I have very mixed feelings about this route. On the one hand, as a new character, I found Rozy very attractive in terms of his appearance and personality. And many of his interactions with Catarina were sweet and endearing. On the other hand I have two MAJOR issues that hampered my enjoyment of specifically his relationship with Catarina, A LOT.
Problem one is that, plain and simple, Rozy was TOO devoted and obsessed with her based off ONE, BRIEF interaction 8 years ago. I understand that she inspired him and changed his life without meaning to, but he just... takes it too far. I can rationalize him looking into her immediately afterwards to learn her name. I can get behind him thinking back to that moment and hoping to meet her again one day, to thank her.
But he went as far as HIRING people to check up on her and tell him all about her, years later. That's just STALKING. Through a proxy, yes, but stalking nonetheless. Which is not okay. Ever. It doesn't help that outside of this one "flaw" - being TOO devoted, to the point of clear obsession, which is noted in story to be a flaw his entire family has - he's basically perfect in a way NONE of the other love interests are. I'm genuinely not sure if I would have preferred a literally flawless Gary Stu love interest or... this, which was gross.
Problem two was Albert's interference and the DISRESPECT to Geordo this route had. In general I'm wary of other characters in a story "shipping" anyone together - passively rooting for something like Liliana did is typically fine, but very active matchmaking is grating - but WOW was Albert a busybody about getting Rozy and Catarina together. When he was talking politics I was engaged and enjoying him, but whenever he turned his attention to playing matchmaker, I just felt frustrated.
He's MEANT to be eccentric, but this is really how a king is spending his valuable time? In particular the way he outmaneuvered Geordo so that Catarina and Rozy could fake-date For Reasons, and even PULLED RANK on him, threatening to end his and Catarina's engagement BEFORE Rozy had even confessed, was infuriating.
What gets me is that his interference was ENTIRELY unnecessary. There were plenty of moments between Rozy and Catarina to justify their mutual feelings without him poking his nose in it, and despite being clearly unhappy about it Geordo HAS proven to be reasonable about letting Catarina go when she actually falls for someone else. It's not like Albert's actions prompted Rozy to confess; he was going to do so ANYWAY. All Albert did was piss off and disrespect Geordo. In theory his actions SHOULD cause political issues between Quid and Sorcier, which he wants to prevent, and yet...
This was the one route where I liked the plot outside the romance significantly more than the romance itself. The political drama and intrigue was engaging, and I loved seeing Rozy and Silva interact. They have a genuinely sweet dynamic. It was also cute seeing Rozy's dad gush over him - a more normal, healthy (yet embarrassing) way to express the family's overly-affectionate trait.
The conflict with the premier Cet Norden was... a bit sloppily handled though. It bothers me that like 90% of his backstory and motivation was in an optional "memory scenario". Was an optional exposition dump really the best they could do? No way to incorporate any of that into the story naturally? By comparison the conflicts are much better integrated in Alan, Nicol, and Silva's routes.
I have a third minor issue with this route (and to a lesser extent, Nicol and Silva's) - it's frustrating that even AFTER finding out Rozy is associated with the pirates, he continues to hide shit and only comes clean when he can't avoid it any longer. Silva's route fully explains WHY - they're trying to secretly handle this so they don't have to work with and be indebted to Sorcier. But the politics of that choice are, in itself, kind of disgusting. Thinking rationally, Rozy chose to endanger who knows how many Sorcier nobles by keeping things secret, and even if their lives are kept safe by the "pirates", they're still under extreme emotional stress due to the situation. They even go so far as to plan for ships from Quid to "rescue" the Sorcier nobles, making them feel indebted rather than the other way around! The entire plot/conflict of this game could have been avoided if saving lives mattered more than politics.
Nicol: This route took an interesting turn into the supernatural. There is an entirely unique conflict (on top of the existing ones, which... still exist and take up nearly half the route), and I quite enjoyed it. I do think it needed more time to shine, though. The witch is only properly introduced more than halfway through the route, and that conflict is resolved surprisingly fast and easily.
As for romance, this route actually worked way better than I expected going into it. I'm not typically into aloof love interests that don't emote much, but I think it helped that we got to spend a lot of time from Nicol's perspective so I could see what he was thinking and feeling, even if it wasn't clear from his expressions and voice.
I mentioned that I think Catarina is lowkey into Alan and Nicol "by default" earlier. Alan I explained in his section - she subconsciously seeks him out and pays him special attention, to the frustration of her other love interests.
Nicol by comparison she is more OVERTLY into, but it's initially shallow. Nicol has a "mysterious allure" that exists both in-game and out, and since canonically she hasn't played his route, AND she's the most distant from him out of all her love interests (he's more "my friend's brother" than "MY friend", initially), she's intrigued by and drawn to him in a way she isn't to her other friends. She is Not Immune to his good looks, and he's able to fluster her in a way no one else can, without even meaning to.
Thus, when they actually spend time together and get to know each other, it's actually very EASY for Nicol to win her affections. Lucky for everyone else that he's a good friend and is DETERMINED to keep his feelings to himself. Much like Alan, he has no intention of confessing and attempting to steal (ostensibly) Geordo's Girl, and I respect him for that.
I was honestly really into the tension between Geordo and Nicol this route, where out of respect and friendship Nicol was trying so hard to keep his distance from Catarina but he kept accidentally letting his feelings affect his actions in ways that stepped on Geordo's toes anyway. That said I think there was a missed opportunity regarding how that conflict ended. I think there was a lot of potential for either drama or wholesome friendship if he and Geordo had actually gotten to TALK about it, but they never did.
Nicol spent the entire route not wanting to confess and get between Catarina and Geordo, but then due to the witch's interference he ultimately confessed to Catarina anyway WITHOUT talking it out with Geordo first. Either Nicol needed to find the courage to confront Geordo and at least give him a heads-up that he was going to do this, or even better, Geordo could be a good friend and tell him to shoot his shot (but obviously Geordo himself wouldn't fully give up until it's clear Catarina has fully chosen someone else); either way making it a "may the best man win" situation would have been ideal. Instead Geordo tells Nicol they need to talk AFTER Nicol has confessed and stolen his girl after spending the whole route determined not to do literally just that, and we don't even see the confrontation.
This route is leagues better than Rozy's in "dealing with" Geordo, but not as good as Alan or Silva's. While I wanted Nicol to talk things out with him first, I at least am more accepting of the witch's interference than Albert's. Albert was playing matchmaker and screwing over Geordo in the process, while the witch was personally trying to upset Geordo due to his similarity to her lover that she wanted revenge on, and Nicol and Catarina getting together was more a byproduct of that.
She forced Nicol to spend time with and confess his love to her (in Catarina's body), which made him reconsider his feelings and his passivity, and when he ultimately confessed it was because he couldn't bear for his only confession have been to the witch. It was explicitly for the sake of closure rather than expecting reciprocation, which was a happy surprise.
Ultimately I think this route was very solid all around though it could have been improved in some ways. It also brings another point AGAINST Rozy, because I can't help but feel he WAS trying to pull a last minute Mr. Steal Your Girl despite claiming his confession was just for closure. If you only wanted closure... why did you not also confess in Silva's route, where you spent MORE time with Catarina and thus should have loved her there too? It comes across in hindsight like he cares too much about Silva to come between them but he's willing to try his luck with Catarina's other love interests.
Silva: It's rare for me to love the true/favored love interest in otome, but this is definitely an exception. His route was so good! I already liked Silva a fair amount from what I'd seen in other routes - not only is his design very appealing, but his Honorable Rogue shtick was right up my alley. So I went in with fairly high hopes and honestly still got way better than I expected.
I appreciated that while he and Catarina definitely get along right from the start, he WASN'T immediately into her. It was refreshing after literally all of her other love interests being in love with her from the start of the story (including new character Rozy, who either fell in love as a child or immediately fell for her upon reuniting). Silva's "romantic" scenes in the early parts of his route definitely felt like he was flirting more just because he's USED to getting women's attention and he was testing her reactions, rather than him genuinely trying to woo her. Instead, it's her complete trust and faith in him (despite him being a "pirate" and having a somewhat shady past that he initially tries to hide) that really warms him to her.
Either intentionally or accidentally, this pair kept stealing moments alone together, and almost every one served to bring them just a bit closer together. You could really feel their relationship shifting from strangers to acquaintances to friends to ultimately lovers. They were BOTH gradually getting to know and falling for the other, rather than it being largely one party trying to win over the other.
And while Geordo has a relatively small role in this route and isn't really addressed until the ending... I think that works. As I mentioned in Geordo's route, he was complacent and assumed his "victory" was secure. He might have been initially paranoid, but he took reassurance from Silva initially saying Catarina was like a little sister and didn't consider that those feelings might change. But then unbeknownst to him, Catarina ended up spending A LOT of time with Silva (and as I said, those moments often happened to be ALONE, so no one else truly knew just HOW close they were getting), and falling for him. Basically, Geordo was caught sleeping on the job in this route and by the time he considered Silva a threat, it was too late.
One aspect of this route I really loved was Silva's interactions and dynamic with Rozy and the Lindgren family. It's so clear how much Rozy and his father truly love Silva, and Silva loves them too but is reluctant to officially join their family because doing so would cause a minor scandal. He'd rather keep a wall between them than burden them in any way because he feels indebted and unworthy, while they WANT him in the family and would happily accept any trouble he brings.
Heck, Rozy loves Silva enough that he didn't hesitate to back off when he noticed Silva getting close to Catarina, despite presumably being in love with her himself! The subtle way he gave the pair his blessing through giving Silva the notebook that had her picture - something he had in the past told Silva he "couldn't give" him, despite Silva's curiosity - was honestly sublime. One of my favorite moments in the entire game.
I also adored Silva opening up about his family and culture to Catarina, and then how he used that unique culture to woo her. Even before the reveal, the ear kisses were SO GOOD and clearly affecting her. In the end, when he revealed it was actually a sign that he was courting her? Buddy, that's too smooth!
Speaking of his confession, I loved that initially it seemed he was going to just confess his feelings and then back off, leaving the ball in her court. He wanted her to know how he felt before she left, since it would be who knows how long before they saw each other again, if ever, but he didn't intend to pressure her. It was only AFTER she instinctively stopped and clung to him - after she'd given him some small indication that she reciprocated - that he made a move. And what a move it was! The way he warned her to stop him or leave if she didn't want this before kissing her, MULTIPLE TIMES, was just... very attractive. He was probably already my favorite before this, but even if he hadn't been, this scene would have pushed him to the top anyway.
And the epilogue is also very lovely, with him having finally been officially adopted by the Lindgren family. He found a reason worth troubling them - so he could have the status and education to "properly" be with her without society putting up a fuss. It's so cute to see her so thrilled to see him again and being so happy and excited at the prospect of marrying him.
Finally, the conflict and drama in this route was once again pretty good. I don't have much to say (mainly because while I DID enjoy the conflict, the romance was just astoundingly solid and stole most of my focus), but everything regarding human experimentation and how Silva was directly linked to it and the antagonist was good. I wish the villain wasn't a brand new character not even SEEN in other routes though (he might have been MENTIONED in one or two other routes, but that's it).
One thing I think this story does REALLY well is the Butterfly Effect of Catarina changing the game's canon (something she hilariously never seems to fully grasp). Her one meeting with Rozy changed his life. And even though she NEVER met Silva as a child, her chance meeting with Rozy also rippled outward and still positively affected Silva, making him radically different than the "in-game" Silva, who most likely WASN'T a romanceable character but a true villain (I find it hard to believe the game would let you romance someone who callously kills several people in his INTRODUCTION and who is part of a pirate crew that is legitimately threatening/evil. I like to imagine Rozy was the true "secret" romance in the fandisk, since he WAS still in the game and on the ship).
Overall I thought this game was great and it far exceeded my expectations. I expected (and got) comedy, but the romances were mostly good and there was more drama and intrigue to many of the plots/conflicts than I expected. I'll definitely be returning to this game to re-experience my favorites.
In terms of my feelings on the routes as a whole, best to worst: Silva -> Alan -> Nicol -> Rozy -> Geordo -> Keith
My feelings on the romance/relationship with Catarina: Silva -> Alan -> Geordo -> Nicol -> Rozy -> Keith

Hamefura Height Chart (based on the hamefura-pirates official art)
Because I was obsessing over Nicol, I felt like making a height chart based on the fullbody artwork on the website. Good thing the artworks are all the same height and already adjusts to everyone’s height so it was only a matter of putting it together. Some characters have a bigger gap between the end of the image and their feet (like Katarina) but I didn’t adjust it (since Mary would be taller than her if I did, and we all know which of them is taller).
Nicol becomes noticeably taller than in the promotional artwork for the game, being almost as tall as Keith but still not there yet. Ehrsson is so tall he can barely fit the image lmao. Rozy and Liliana are only as tall as they are because of their hat lmao.

Game: My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! ~The Pirates that Stir the Waters~ / Hamefura Pirates
Chapter: Keith Route, Chapter 6
Context: Katarina couldn't sleep and she ended up meeting Keith in the living room in the middle of the night. Since they were both cold, Katarina had Keith share a blanket with her. As a result, Keith tried to explain to her that she shouldn't be so defenseless with him. Since Keith was so close to her, Katarina was feeling flustered, but then they are interrupted by a sound coming from outside the door.

Hamefura Pirates: Keith Route Chapter 6
All of the summaries I have written so far are available in the Hamefura Pirates Summary Index.
Chapter 6: The shadow they failed to capture
When Katarina and Keith reach the entrance of the sickbay, they see Silva and Rozy having some kind of suspicious conversation. They can't hear what they say. Not to raise suspicion, Keith and Katarina pretend they have just gotten back. Seeing them, Silva quickly leaves.
Keith asks Rozy what they were talking about. Rozy just replies he was telling Silva about the doctor collapsing and the scented sachets.
Katarina and Keith tell Rozy about the hidden room they found and ask him if he knows something about it. Rozy ignored its existence.
They give Rozy the book they found and Rozy reads it at a high speed. Thanks to the book and Keith's knowledge, Rozy has figured out which herbs are probably used in the herbal tea. However they don't find many of them. While looking for more, Keith finds some alcohol and wonders why since the doctor doesn't seem to drink. Rozy guesses the doctor must make tinctures.  Keith finally found the tinctures.
Rozy praises Keith, excitedly telling he could help if he ever wanted to study abroad at Quid. Hearing this, Katarina hates the idea of Keith going away and loudly objects. From her reaction, Rozy shyly says it was only a suggestion and Keith doesn't have to decide right away. Katarina is relieved. Keith smiles at Katarina and tells Rozy he appreciates the offer but he must refuse, since there are things he has to do at Sorcier. He also wants to stay with the one precious to him.
Katarina is lost in her thoughts, wondering how long she will be able to stay with Keith. Since her mother doesn't want her to marry Geordo, she would probably be fine if she doesn't marry him and stay at Claes Mansion. However, unlike her, Keith must marry someone since he is the heir of the Claes Family. Katarina's chest hurts thinking of Keith marrying someone. Even though she was fine with it when she thought he would fall in love with Maria.
Rozy has finished a first version of the herbal tea and would like Keith and Katarina to taste it, since they are familiar with the taste. Keith and Katarina drink it and... the taste is awful!
Tumblr media
Rozy expected it since the tea he gave them was a version which prioritized efficiency over taste. He was just curious to know how bad it was. Katarina notes that Rozy is like a mad scientist.
Rozy gives them another version of the tea which should be easier to drink. Keith and Katarina excitedly tell Rozy that the taste is very close to the doctor's herbal tea. They prepare herbal tea for everyone in the sickbay and they all successfully recover.
Now they only need to collect all of the scented sachets and make herbal tea for the sick people in the other sickbays. Rozy says Silva has already collected all of the scented sachets after he talked to him about it earlier.
Keith and Katarina will wait for Silva to come to the sickbay so that they can talk to him about what happened at the library. Katarina falls asleep.
Keith's POV: Since Katarina has fallen asleep, Keith gently puts her on one of the beds of the sickbay and watches over her with a smile. Katarina is making such a happy face while sleeping. Keith shuts the curtains since he doesn't want anyone to see Katarina's sleeping face. Looking at him, Rozy tells Keith he must really care a lot for her. Keith simply replies she is precious to him. Keith wonders how Katarina can charm people so easily, whether it is Rozy or Silva.
Katarina wakes up and sees Keith talking with Silva. Keith tells her that Silva will increase the number of guards for their room. All of the scented sachets have been collected too, so everything is alright.
Keith, Katarina are returning to their room with Silva and 5 other pirates.
Katarina wonders who was the person in the library. She is afraid it might be one of the pirates she saw in her dream, since she still hasn't seen them.
Katarina asks Silva if the sick people in the other sickbay are better. Silva says yes after they were given herbal tea. They have also collected all of the scented sachets. Katarina is glad to hear this and asks him why he believed them. Silva simply replies he can tell when someone lies just by looking at their eyes.
Keith thinks it is exaggerated to assign 6 adults to protect 2 people and wonders if Silva has some information to share about the person in the library. Silva has no idea who it might be and asks them to be careful since he doesn't want his loot to get hurt.
Silva ruffles Keith's hair. Annoyed, Keith brushes his hand away saying he won't get friendly with pirates. Silva tells him not to be so cold with his big bro. Katarina is happy to see so many sides of Keith she didn't see before.
Silva senses a presence but he doesn't see anyone. He carefully watches over Katarina and Keith during the rest of the way.
Back in their room, Keith explains the situation to Geordo.
During the night, Katarina can't sleep, so she gets up and goes to the living room in her pajamas. She is worried about her friends getting sold. Keith comes to the living room too and scolds her for getting out of her room in her sleep wear. Then he asks her what is wrong. After all, the nap she took during the afternoon wasn't that long, so it is probably not the reason she can't sleep right now.
Katarina explains that she is worried because everyone could be sold because of their powerful magic, and she can't protect them with her lousy magic. Keith reassures her. Then he gives her a blanket so that she wouldn’t get cold. Katarina initially welcomes the warm blanket, but then she remembers that Keith is still recovering. Katarina insists that Keith should be the one using it. Keith insists that he can’t let her get cold since she is a woman. So Katarina puts the blanket on the both of them so that they can be warm together.
Tumblr media
Keith gives her a worried look, telling her that she shouldn't be so defenseless. After all, he is a man, like he told her earlier during the day. She really should be more careful around men, and he is constantly worried that someone might steal her away. He can’t pretend anymore that he doesn’t feel anything. Katarina is flustered.
⇨ The translation of this scene is available here (video).
They suddenly hear someone collapsing and then Ryle Werder enters the room. He tells them that he has sneaked away from the pirates and secured a boat so that the royals and the others could at least escape. Keith doubts his story and he ends up showing his true colors. His objective is to capture people with powerful magic, including the light magic user.
Keith uses his earth magic to deal with him. He has the upper hand until Ryle uses an atomizer on him. Keith feels now nauseous and his body is shaking. Ryle is surprised that Keith is still conscious. Katarina asks him what he has done to Keith. Ryle explains that the atomizer contains a chemical called Abîme, which is the same chemical used in the scented sachets.
Ryle hits Keith with his cane, saying he should just give in and lose consciousness.
Katarina hesitates to wake the others up, fearing that in the meanwhile, Keith would faint and be taken away. She can't bear to lose Keith, the one she loves. She finally decides to throw teacups at Ryle so that he would get away from Keith. She has perfect aim thanks to her snake throwing practice.
Ryle is furious. He is about to hit Katarina but Keith succeeds in moving his body to shield her.
Following the commotion, Geordo and the others arrive. Ryle is shocked and Keith takes advantage of this moment to close on him and threaten him with a teacup shard on his throat. As Ryle fears for his life, Keith tells him:  "I won't forgive you for hurting Big Sister". Ryle surrenders and Silva ties him up.
⇨ The translation of this scene is available here (video).
Keith collapses and Katarina runs to him.
Tumblr media
She asks him if he is alright. Keith is glad that he could properly protect her this time, but because he did, she is making such a sad face right now. Katarina tearfully asks him not to die. Keith tries to reassure her by telling her that he will always be with her. Then he suddenly kisses her.
Tumblr media
He tells her that he will always protect her and that he loves her, before passing out. Everyone saw it. Geordo is shocked, Silva whistles.
Katarina is flustered. She has just received her first kiss and it was in front of everyone. She realizes this is not something Keith could have done out of brotherly love.
⇨ The translation of this scene is available here (video).
Someone suddenly throws a knife at Ryle. He is seriously wounded. Silva asks Maria to heal Ryle because they can't afford to let him die.

Hamefura Pirates: Common Route Chapter 1
All of the summaries I have written so far are available in the Hamefura Pirates Summary Index.
Chapter 1: A luxury cruise...?
****** Katarina's POV ******
Upon arriving at the port, Katarina is amazed by the magnificence of  the Vinculum, the luxury liner that they will board. She can't help feeling excited about the cruise. She gets so carried away that she shakes Keith. Keith still reminds her to mind her manners since there will also be nobles from Queed taking part in the cruise. Then he blushingly asks her to let go of him.
Katarina and Keith meet Maria at the port. She explains that she has been invited to the cruise too. Despite feeling uneasy about attending a prestigious aristocratic party, she decided to accept the invitation because she thought that she would need to get used to this kind of event. Though, Maria still feels relieved to have Katarina with her. As for Keith, he feels relieved that Maria will be there to help him keep an eye on Katarina.
Katarina rushes to board the ship. Keith and Maria follow.
****** Others' POV ******
An engineer (Rozy) catches sight of Katarina. He is shocked to see her.
****** Geordo's POV ******
Geordo and Alan are currently exchanging greetings with the two people who have co-developed the ship: Cet Norden, the Prime Minister of Queed, and Marquis Werder from Sorcier. This still-extending greeting bores Geordo, but he still maintains a smiling facade. As they are exchanging pleasantries, Geordo notices that despite his welcoming facade, Cet seems to be somewhat assessing him. Geordo dismisses it as normal, considering that, given the distance between them, both Sorcier and Queed needs to probe the other whenever they have an opportunity.
After Cet and Ryle have left, Alan asks Geordo if there has been something bothering him regarding them.Geordo replies that there is nothing particular at the moment, but he is still wary of Cet. After all, Cet is rumored to be ambitious, clever and willing to do anything for his goal. There also are a lot of shady rumors about him. Geordo also finds Cet's motives highly suspicious. Alan agrees that they should stay cautious.
Geordo remembers how three years ago, Cet proposed this shipbuilding project to Sorcier, but the King refused because he was wary of a proposal from a country which they had no friendly relationships with. Geordo assumes that after this rejection, Cet must have turned to Marquis Werder, who had an interest in Queed's technology. Since Marquis Werder had a high reputation as a talented entrepreneur, the shipbuilding project got approved when he presented it to the royal palace.
Geordo is sad that he will not be able to see Katarina for a week. Alan tries to cheer him up by saying that a week will pass fast.
Geordo remembers how he fell for Katarina, and how Katarina just won't realize his feelings because she believes that he is using her as a breakwater against other ladies. He has remained by her side while patiently waiting for her to realize his feelings, but he has only gained new rivals in the process. Because Katarina charms everyone regardless of genders. Everyone in their group of friends is actually in love with Katarina, and they have been working hard to prevent him from marrying her. Still, Geordo is happy that there will be no one getting ahead of him this time, since everyone except Katarina will attend the Vinculum's unveiling party.
Especially, Geordo is happy that Alan won't have the opportunity to see Katarina. Alan has just realized his feelings for Katarina, and Geordo is worried about what might happen if Alan saw Katarina now. He also muses about how Alan has been loving Katarina for all these years without realizing it, how Alan's fiancée, Mary, has prevented him from realizing his feelings because she also loves Katarina, and how Alan still hasn't realized that his own fiancée is actually his biggest rival.
Geordo has been staring at Alan, so he feels perplexed. Someone knocks on the door.
****** Sophia's POV ******
Nicol and Sophia are on their way to greet Geordo and Alan.
Sophia has been getting angry at Nicol because he won't go greet Katarina even though it would enable him to get ahead since no one knows that Katarina is actually here. Sophia really wishes Katarina and Nicol would get together, but Nicol is set on respecting Geordo's fiancé status. Sophia reminds him that he must seize all the opportunities that he can get since he is at a disadvantage compared to the others. He has already graduated and will have less and less time to see Katarina. In any case, Nicol is set on putting work first. Sophia despairs. She thinks Nicol is too serious and should be more sneaky. She fears that Nicol might let Geordo know that Katarina is here, and she is set on doing all she can to prevent this. Even so, she figures that Geordo will probably realize it from Nicol's face anyway.
****** Nicol's POV ******
Nicol is happy to hear that Katarina is on board. He remembers how Katarina was the first one who understood his feelings when they were children, and how he fell in love with her following that. Even so, he didn't want to steal the fiancée of his important friend. Staying by her side and watching over her happiness is enough for him. But Nicol still can't help feeling exhilarated. Nicol and Sophia enter Geordo's room. When they do, Geordo and Alan are shocked to see the smile on Nicol's face.
****** Katarina's POV ******
Katarina, Keith and Maria board the ship. After leaving her luggage to her maids, Katarina goes out on the deck. She enjoys the view and the salty breeze, and can't help feeling excited by the cruise. She excitedly proposes to Keith to catch big fishes together while at sea. While Keith is dumbfounded by Katarina's suggestion, it reminds him of the first time Katarina took him out fishing..
Memory Scenario: The First Time I Went Fishing (video)
Then Katarina is suddenly called out by Geordo, Alan and Nicol.
Tumblr media
Geordo explains that he has been searching for her ever since he heard that she was here. Katarina is surprised to see them. She guesses that Geordo and Alan must be here on official business, and that Nicol must probably replace his father, just like Keith.
Since they are here, Katarina wishes Sophia would be here too. Sophia reveals herself from behind Nicol's back. Katarina and Sophia happily greet each other. Sophia explains that she has come here because she wanted to see the ocean after she got crazy about a romance novel that she has read recently, called "The Beautiful Lady Is Embraced By The Sea". Knowing Sophia, who is "the pro amongst the pros" when it comes to reading romance novels, Katarina figures that the story must be quite good if Sophia loves it so much. When Katarina asks her what it is about, Sophia explains it is a "stolen love" story about a noble lady who falls in love with the pirate who pulled her apart from her fiancé. Hearing this, everyone is shocked, and Geordo is displeased. Then Sophia excitedly proposes to Katarina to lend her the book. Geordo steps in, and tells Katarina that she doesn't need to read it. Katarina doesn't understand why he would say that and wonders if he actually wants to read it first.
Mary suddenly steps in and elegantly mocks Geordo for trying to prevent Katarina from reading whatever she likes. Mary and Katarina happily greet each other while Geordo grumbles in the background. Mary explains to Katarina that she has been searching for her ever since she heard that she was here. Geordo steps in, praising Mary's ability to gather information, all while pointing out how rude it was for her to break in their conversation. Mary elegantly replies that he has done the exact same thing moments ago when he broke into Katarina and Sophia's conversation. Katarina is confused looking at Geordo and Mary, since they are smiling on the outside, but the air around them is stormy.
Then Katarina feels a tug of her sleeve. It is Sophia. She whispers that she will discreetly pass her the book later, behind Geordo's back. Katarina is happy that Sophia is such a good friend to her. This triggers a memory.
Memory Scenario: A Exhilarating Promise (video)
While Sophia and Katarina are talking, Nicol gently reminds Sophia not to get too excited. Looking at Nicol, Katarina feels dizzy because of his devilish charm. Nicol has such a powerful charm that it can be considered a deadly weapon.
Then Alan remarks that the whole gang is here. Looking around her, Katarina confirms that he is right. The student council members are here, including her, who is considered a quasi-member. Though, the student council president is not here.
⇨ The translation of this scene is available here (video).
The boat departs.
Everyone explains to Katarina that the Vinculum is a ship combining the technology of the Quid Kingdom and the magic arts of the Sorcier Kingdom. There are some facilities on the ship: a pool, a library, a casino and a gallery lounge.
Katarina is excited about the pool, which shocks everyone. Pools are part of the Quid Kingdom's culture so they didn't expect Katarina to know about it. Besides, using the pool would require them to wear swimsuits and thus show some skin, which they are not comfortable with. Even so, Geordo has actually already booked the pool for the whole day (right after he learned Katarina would be on board), so he tells everyone they shouldn't force themselves to wear swimsuits and that Katarina and he will gladly enjoy the pool alone together. Everyone decides to join.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
At the pool, both the girls and the guys are embarrassed about wearing a swimsuit, and are surprised Katarina is completely fine with it. Katarina has brought a lot of accessories to play at the pool.
What to do at the pool?
Warm-up Exercises  ⇒ Alan’s Pool Event
Inflate the Swim Ring  ⇒ Geordo’s Pool Event
Lift Buckets ⇒  Nicol’s Pool Event
Prepare Water Guns ⇒  Keith’s Pool Event
Then Geordo proposes to Katarina a swimming contest where the winner can ask anything. Katarina likes the idea as it reminds her of her tree-climbing contests with Alan when they were kids. As Geordo mentioned the winner could ask anything, she thinks it would be some kind of penalty game and so she is thinking hard of a suitable penalty. In the meanwhile, Mary and Keith oppose Geordo's suggestion, but the others say a contest would not be so bad as long as the order is suitable. Katarina has finally found the perfect penalty: the loser would have to end all their sentences with "Meooow~". She thought it would be harmless and cute. As everyone wants to see Katarina doing cat talk, they are all fired up for the contest.
Alan's POV: After playing at the pool, Alan is resting in his room. He is happy that Katarina is on board the ship, especially since he has realized his feelings for her recently. Seeing Katarina in her swimsuit made him flustered and he can't help blushing at the memory.
Katarina is resting in her room before getting ready for the party tonight. However she is hungry and things would be troublesome if her stomach grumbled during the party. So she sneaks away and goes searching for a place where she can have some food.
She heads to the gallery lounge hoping she would find some food there but there isn't any. A necklace on display catches her eye and she finds herself entranced by it. From behind her, a guy (Rozy) tells her that this necklace is called "The Witch Eye". She and Rozy discuss until her stomach rumbles. She embarrassingly tells him that she is hungry and is thus searching for food. Rozy is amused and offers her some sweets, which look like gummy candies. Katarina wonders if they are some specialties from the Queed Kingdom, but Rozy says that he actually created them. He was surprised when she called them "gummy candies" but he would like to name them like this.
Tumblr media
Katarina happily eats the gummy candies, Then Keith pops up in her mind and tells her not to accept food from strangers. She panics and asks Rozy for his name, thinking that Rozy wouldn’t be a stranger that way. Rozy introduces himself and tells her that he is from Queed. Katarina thought that he was a passenger but Rozy awkwardly tells her that he is actually part of the engineering staff operating the boat. He has sneaked away from work, so he asks Katarina not to tell anyone that she saw him here. Katarina happily accepts since they are now friends. Then Katarina suddenly hears her maid calling her in panic since she slipped out before getting ready for the party. She says goodbye to Rozy and rushes to her maid.
Rozy’s POV: Rozy can’t believe that he is meeting Katarina again on his boat. He has always yearned to see her. But at the same time, it is troublesome for him because he can’t let her find out his identity for the sake of his mission. Rozy hates that he has to deceive her, but he resolves himself to do it.
⇨ The translation of this scene is available here (video).
Her maids have finished preparing her for the party and Katarina is waiting for Keith since he is supposed to be her escort, as requested by their parents. Someone knocks on the door. It is Geordo, who has come to escort her for the party, since he is her fiancé. Katarina is confused since it was supposed to be Keith. Then Keith arrives and he and Geordo bicker on who will be Katarina's escort.
Maria and the others have also come to fetch Katarina for the party. Upon entering Katarina's room, the girls notice the scented sachet in Katarina's room is giving off a different smell than the ones in their rooms. It seems like scented sachets are articles Ryle Werder wants to market for women. The girls love the smell, but Keith dislikes it.
Geordo asks Mary what she is doing here. Mary naturally replies that since they are not bound by Sorcier's customs on the ship, they can all go to the party together. Since Katarina likes the idea, Geordo gives in but wants Katarina to give him her first dance. Before they go to the party, Keith makes Katarina repeat all the directives from their mother.
At the party, Ryle Werder and Cet Norden make a long commemorative speech. When they are finished, Katarina thinks she can finally go to the buffet, but Ryle and Cet call her out. After they exchanged greetings, Katarina doesn't know how to pursue the conversation, so she talks to Ryle about the scented sachets.
Afterwards, Ryle and Cet engage in conversation with Maria since they are highly interested in light magic. Mary and Sophia tell Katarina they don't like the way they look at Maria despite their smiles. Maria starts being uncomfortable, so Katarina decides to go save her. Getting inspiration from the way Keith sends Geordo away from her, she tells Ryle and Cet that Maria and her must go greet a teacher they know. She indirectly adds they shouldn't be so pushy with Maria just because she is lovely. Ryle and Cet are displeased but they gracefully leave. Maria thanks Katarina.
Frederic Ehrsson makes his entrance with ladies around him trying to catch his attention. Mary says that Frederic is a soldier from Quid who is as popular with the ladies as Keith and Nicol in Sorcier. However, the guy himself hates women. Mary also talks about Ryle Werder and how he hasn't shown up with his wife, which may confirm the rumors about him having issues with his wife.
As Katarina heads towards the buffet, she is called out by a gentleman from Quid who invites her to dance. Seeing this, Geordo pushes aside the gentleman and invites Katarina to dance, *as she promised*. Recognizing Geordo, the Quid gentleman runs away.
Tumblr media
While they dance, Geordo remembers his first dance lesson with Katarina.
Memory Scenario: Our first dance lesson
Katarina tells Geordo she would like to go to the buffet but he replies he would like to dance longer because he wants everyone to see them together. He also reminds her he will never break off their engagement.
Katarina has finally reached the buffet. The waiter (Silva) is surprised to see Katarina. He serves her some juice and then leaves. Nicol arrives and gives her a plate he has prepared for her. They look at what all the others are doing. Geordo and Keith are approached by ladies. Alan is giving a violin performance. The girls are together. Maria and Sophia are often approached by men but Mary helps them out.
A little later, Keith joins Katarina to the buffet. Katarina invites him to have some food, but Keith is not hungry. Katarina finds it weird, since Keith hasn't eaten anything. Besides he hasn't nagged her about overeating.
After the party, Katarina goes to sleep.

Hamefura Pirates: Keith Route Chapter 7
All of the summaries I have written so far are available in the Hamefura Pirates Summary Index.
Chapter 7: Facing my feelings
The ship has landed on a foggy island.
The identity of the person who threw the knife on Ryle still hasn't been confirmed. Keith fears they would still be among them.
Keith and Katarina blush each time they make eye contact.
Everyone will be taken to a mansion by carriage.
In the carriage, Katarina can't help thinking of Keith's kiss from last night. However she figures she should rather think of her situation.
Mental Meeting: The pirates who are supposed to harm Maria still haven't appeared however since they have left the boat, maybe the event won't happen after all? But she really considers she is past the events of Fortune Lover? Aside from this, Katarina wonders if Ryle really wanted to sell them. After all, he isn't in need of money. Ryle is still unconscious so she will need to wait for him to wake up to know. Since it is not clear what they should do, the Council decides Katarina should ask Keith for advice to decide the actions to take.
However Katarina still can't face Keith.
They arrive in a mansion. Like in the boat, they won't be allowed to come out of their rooms and there will be pirates guarding the exits. The rooms they are given are nice and the windows are unbarred. Everyone wonders if they are treated so well so that they could be sold in "good condition".
Katarina and Keith try to talk about the events of last night, but before they could, Mary takes Katarina apart and Geordo does the same with Keith. Keith tries to send Geordo away but Geordo suggests Keith should them to discuss a plan while the girls rest. Keith reluctantly accepts and follows Geordo.
Keith's POV: Keith wants to talk with Katarina but he just can't get an opportunity. Last night, the teary face she made as she was desperately calling out to him was so endearing that he ended up kissing her. He wonders if Katarina still remembers what happened, and if she does, whether she is afraid of him. He would hate it if she started avoiding him because of it, so he needs to know how she feels about it. As Keith is lost in his thoughts, Geordo calls out to him. Keith  thinks to himself he needs to focus, before suggesting to Geordo an action they could take.
Everyone is having dinner. The room is nice and the food is delicious. They are staying in a different place but it is like they are still on the boat.
After dinner, Keith announces he will go explore the island. Since the windows are unbarred, Keith can use his earth magic to build stairs outside which will reach the window. Nicol confirms with his wind magic that there is no guard near the window at the moment.
Keith wants to go alone, but Katarina wants to go with him since it would be dangerous alone. Nicol says he will be the one to go with Keith since he can use his wind magic to notify them if there is any problem. Nicol also asks Sophia to keep track of their sound.
Keith builds the stairs and Nicol and him go out of the room. They run towards the forest.
Katarina is worried sick about Keith and can't sleep. She is waiting for him in the living room. Her chest hurts because Keith is not here. She knows she feels that way because she loves Keith as a man. The cold wind reminds her of the events of last night, when Keith desperately protected her and shyly told her he loved her. Keith has always been with her so she feels lonely when he is not here. She wants to tell him her feelings so badly. She prays for Keith to come back safely.
Katarina falls asleep and has a dream from her childhood, when Keith would have a nightmare. But she can't wake him up in her dream.
Katarina wakes up. She smells the scent of earth and then she sees Keith. She is so happy she hugs him tightly. Keith blushes. Nicol shyly asks Keith to move a bit further inside the room so that he can cross the window too...
With the commotion, everyone enters the living room and happily welcomes the two of them.
Keith and Nicol explain they have no hope of being rescued by chance. The island is covered with fog and the pirates are the only ones here. They are probably on an island in the Blank Area. After all, the "White Darkness Devil" was rumored to live there. Since ships avoid this part of the ocean, the only way to get out of the island would be to steal a pirate ship. However, they are heavily guarded.
Acchan Dream Sequence: Acchan has reached a bad end where Maria is dropped into the ocean by the pirates. OG!Katarina is not happy because this is not what she and Silva agreed on. Selling Maria wouldn't be satisfying either. Silva simply tells her that they only want to make money to get high-valued treasures. If things are useless then they just drop them in the ocean. And while he is at it, he will let OG!Katarina choose her fate. Does she want to become seaweed, or if she will enter the cage?
Katarina is woken up by pirates banging on the door of their room. The pirates are showing an evil grin so she wonders what they are up to. However, they have just come to bring them water to wash their faces and to notify them that breakfast is ready. They also add that since it's not good to stay in their room all day, they can take a walk inside the mansion after breakfast. Everyone is dumbfounded to be faced with such nice pirates.
After breakfast, Katarina takes a walk inside the mansion. She takes the opportunity to thank the pirate cook for the food. She stumbles on Silva who seems to be busy searching for something. Katarina feels a bit uneasy talking to him after she saw his game version, but she goes and asks him the name of his vice-captain. Silva is surprised and tells her he is named Romeo. Katarina realizes once again that things are different compared to Fortune Lover, since the vice-captain is not named "Morgan".
Katarina wonders what Silva is searching for, maybe a treasure? She talks about it with Keith, Geordo and Alan and they definitely think that's not it.
Katarina continues her walk inside the mansion. She wonders how the other passengers who stayed on the boat are doing. She also thinks about how nice the pirates are and how well they are treating her.
Katarina meets Keith in the hallway. Keith has been looking for her and proposes to go back to their room together. Since they are finally alone, Katarina gets flustered and thinks it is the perfect opportunity to talk with Keith about the events of the other night. She wants to know if Keith was serious when he said he loved her. So she shyly asks him if he remembered what he did that night. Keith gets flustered but they are soon interrupted by the sound of an explosion.
Everyone comes out of the room, shocked. The explosion seems to come from the Viklem. Keith, Alan and Mary will go to help extinguish the fire, Nicol and Sophia to prevent the fire from spreading and Maria to heal injured people. Only Geordo and Katarina will stay behind to help calm down the panicked nobles in the mansion, as a royal and his fiancée.
After the nobles calms down, Katarina is worried about Keith. She decides to climb a tree to see how they are doing from a high place.
Before she did, she hears some noise and it appears to be Cet and one of his followers. They seem tired. Katarina comes running to them and Cet tells her his follower had rescued him and they have run away from the pirates.
Katarina invites them to come rest at the mansion and waits for Maria to come back. Hearing Maria is not here, Cet seems disappointed. He tells Katarina he can't afford to be seen and asks her where Ryle Werder is so that he can finish him off. Cet's follower threatens Katarina with a knife. She recognizes the knife which had been thrown on Ryle. Since Katarina won't answer, Cet asks his follower to injure her so that she would talk.
Katarina pushes the follower away and runs. But the knife injures her on the neck in the process. Katarina is running with all her strength but Cet's follower pulls her hair which makes her fall. As she thought everything was over and that she would die before she could tell Keith her feelings, Katarina calls Keith in desperation.
Then she hears Keith's voice and the sound of the earth rumbling behind her back. When she turns around, she sees a huge earth wall separating her from the enemy. Keith runs up to her and asks her if she is okay. He notices that Katarina's neck is bleeding. Despite Katarina saying it is a scratch, Keith is livid with rage.
Tumblr media
He declares to Cet and his follower that he will not forgive them for hurting Katarina. Using his magic, Keith breaks the earth wall and creates a giant earth golem instead. Cet and his follower are terrified and call Keith a monster. Keith calmly tells them that he doesn't mind being a monster if it is what it takes to protect Katarina. The ground is cracking and rumbling and the golem is getting bigger and bigger. Cet and his follower are desperately trying to run away. The giant earth golem moves his arms. But instead of crushing them, it grabs their bodies and holds them in the air. They have both lost consciousness out of terror.
(The translation for this scene is available here (text / video))
Katarina is glad Keith is okay. Keith informs her that they could put out the fire and rescue the people. Once they were finished, he went back ahead since he was worried about her.
Katarina asks him if Cet and his follower will be alright. Keith answers that it should be okay. They won't be able to run away since his earth golem won't disappear even if he is not around. Katarina thinks to herself that this was not what she meant.
They go back to the mansion and Keith disinfects her wounds. With the stinging of the disinfectant, Katarina tearfully asks Keith "to be more gentle". Keith blushes.
Once he is finished, Keith asks Katarina if she has other wounds. She reassures him saying there are not any since he arrived just on time. Keith tells her he was terrified when he saw her being chased in the forest. His face is down and his hand on his lap is trembling. Katarina can't see his face but she guesses he must be crying. Katarina puts her hand over his and thanks him for saving her. When he raises his face and their eyes meet, she can see herself being reflected in his gentle eyes.
Ryle Werder has woken up. Everyone gathers and asks him why he wanted to capture them.
Ryle explains that he just hates people blessed with magic. He was born without magic and because of this, people talked about how his mother must have had an affair with a vulgar commoner.
Maria is shocked.
Because of the rumor, his mother grew weaker and couldn't bear another child. As a result, his father told him he wished he hadn't been born, because their family is cursed because of him.
Sophia is shocked.
His family were convinced that having a child without magic born into the family was ominous. He studied hard thinking that if he could grow the wealth of his family, they would recognize him. He succeeded as a businessman and his family recognized his achievements, but they still wished he had magic.
And then, a certain person told him he wanted to get hold of people with magic, especially light magic. He accepted the request since they offered an outrageous amount of money and this way there would be one less magician in Sorcier.
Silvia asks him if he aimed at weakening the magic supremacy by removing powerful magicians from Sorcier. Ryle thinks it is strange in the first place to evaluate people based on their magic rather than their abilities. He just thought that losing a light magic user would be a big loss for Sorcier.
Then he glares at Maria. "I won't apologize. People with magic can't understand the feelings of people without. If you people weren't there, I would have been a winner.". Maria is shocked by the hate he is throwing at her but then she firmly replies: "It is true that I can't understand your feelings, but I definitely don't think magic will give you happiness without fail".
Katarina thinks it is natural Maria would reply this way given all she has suffered because of her magic. She can't help thinking Ryle and Maria have similar circumstances.
Geordo agrees with Maria and takes Katarina as an example. Despite having almost no magic, she is such a charming person. Everyone agrees.
Silva asks Ryle if his wife was feeling the same way as the other people. As Ryle thought maybe she wasn't, Silva told him he should have listened to the people who believed in him more rather than the people who criticized him.
Katarina wonders why Cet wanted a light magic user.
A pirate suddenly enters the room, saying a ship from the Quid Navy is approaching. The pirates must abandon the place.
------------------------------ Silva (to Katarina): I've really come to like you. Oh well, I'll come see you again.
Silva was ruffling my hair as if I was a dog. Keith slaps his hand away.
Keith: What are you saying? Of course I would stop you at the door if that happened.
Silva: Haha... You're really the same as ever, Keith. Relax, it was a joke.
Keith: It didn't sound like one to me.
Silva: I really had fun Keith, Katarina. See you. ----------------------------------
Everyone is at the beach watching the pirates running away. Keith tells Katarina that it was because she didn't treat Silva as a bad person that he thought maybe he wasn't. And he really saved them at times. However, he can't forgive him for petting her hair like that.
Rozy arrives. He recognizes the flag of the Quid boat. It is a fleet under the control of the King. They are probably patrolling the area because there are a lot of pirates there.
Everyone splits into 2 groups: a group which will fetch the people in the mansion and another which will fetch the remaining people in the Viklem. Only Keith and Katarina remain on the beach.
Keith asks Katarina if they can talk. He asks her if she remembers that he had kissed her several days ago. Seeing Katarina's panicked reaction, Keith tells he won't apologize for it because he loves her. He has been in love with her ever since she broke his door with an ax. Katarina is shocked that he has been in love with her that long. As Katarina thought he was maybe mistaking his trauma for feelings of love, he explains that her being there for him and telling him she would always be with him drove away all the painful things in his life. He is so thankful to have her in his life, and since she had saved him all this time, he wants to protect her from now on. He loves her.
Katarina replies she loves him too, but Keith thinks she means it as a sisterly love. Katarina tries to convince him she loves him as a man but can't express it well, until she yells from the heart that she loves him.
Keith is taken aback and finally believes her. So he asks her if he can redo their first kiss. Hearing this, Katarina first thinks that playboy Keith has emerged, until she takes a good look at Keith and sees he is the same gentle and serious Keith that she knows and loves. So her body naturally moves by itself and she kisses him.

Keith and Katarina are both shocked. As Katarina tries to explain herself, Keith just tells her that this doesn't count.

Then he cups her face and gently kisses her. Keith smiles as he whispers to her that he loves her. There was so much feeling in his kiss. Katarina is so happy that she was able to realize her feelings, convey them, and that their feelings are finally mutual. After joining their hands and kissing, they both smile at each other.

Just a reminder, this game takes place in a book that covers official extra material about the world of FORTUNE LOVER, including Katarina’s fate in exile. She must have been involved with the Weiss Pirates after her exile, and hopefully has some ties to FORTUNE LOVER 2 as well (???)

Hello can I talk to your localization team jhgfjhsdgf what is going on with “Cet” (Seth??), “Dirk Riggardwell”, “Werder” and “Ehrsson”. I’m sorry if these are real names that i’m making fun of, it’s just so weird to see such names when we have characters like “Mary Hunt” among the cast kjhsdkf
Like that’s the spelling from the website, not me ghsjhdfg
I bet Albert is the successful knight older brother and Rozy is the technician younger brother. Oof I can already smell the inferiority complex from here
Me: (sees that a new character has magic) omg are we finally getting someone with earth magic besides Keith?? Me: (sees that Liliana has water magic) never mind earth gets no rights as usual
Thanks animators for animating the GeoKata smooch you have my gratitude
Thanks to my best friend google translate with the help lmao time to add all these characters to the hamefura wiki (and die i guess, shudders)
