Very interesting article from RammsteinWorld with two interviews with extras who were on the set.
Here are some translated parts (the interviews are in French) :
Pommes Frites :
SO, RAMMSTEIN, HOW ARE THEY?
Very professional, very patient, and absolutely not divas. I imagined that they would go back to their dressing rooms between each take, but not at all: they all stayed on set even when the breaks could easily exceed 15 minutes. On paper, I had plenty of time to talk to them during breaks: they sat on their chairs and waited for the time to pass or chatted among themselves (they didn't have their phones). Some extras went to chat with them, I remember in particular a couple of Swiss Germans who had a good chat with Schneider. Another extra did not let go of the bunch. But the vast majority did not go, including me. It remains a huge regret. But at the time we say to ourselves: “what am I going to be able to tell them? Banalities? I don't want to be the rejoiced fan. We will see if the discussion opens up naturally”. And let's not forget that I was half-naked, and that didn't give me the best assurance to go talk to them.
This does not mean that there were no interactions with the group. Exchanges of glances, smiles, a “Bonsoir” (in French) from Till passing by my group of extras, a “Relax!” smiling from Paul towards an extra next to me who, without doing it on purpose, was pulling too hard on the chain attached to her arm.
Oli is the one who marked me the most during these breaks. He has a presence that is both impressive and intimidating. He's really tall, really handsome, and he made me feel like a pure sugar introvert. Flake conforms to the idea I had of him: a discreet dad. Schneider too: a sexy dad. He kindly chatted with a few fans, as did Paul. Sorry for RZK fans but I don't have an anecdote about him that comes back to me. But at no time did I say to myself: "they are not as I imagined".
HOW LONG DID THE FILMING LAST? THEY WERE NOT PULLED?
[...]
I was impressed by the professionalism and energy of the group. Specter Berlin would retake the takes again and again (I think I heard the chorus of Adieu 200 times that night), and each time the band came up with new ideas for staging inside the hut. Till, above all, was going all out long. How can we forget the punch that he put in one of the (cardboard) walls of the cabin, and which left a big hole in the structure. Another moment I remember is an end take where Till laughingly grabbed the arms of one of the extras to pull her inside the cabin - except that since the "windows" were very narrow, she couldn't go very far, which made everyone laugh, including her.
Herzwerk R.o.D
[...]
During the following hours (we arrived around 8 p.m. and it ended around 1 a.m.), we alternated the phases of filming around this “cage” and breaks. I remember an interview where Till said he didn't like filming, because it's mostly waiting. I confirm.
[...]
Beyond the technical aspect, there is also, and above all, the proximity to the group. First during the scenes, since we were only a few centimeters away from them during the sequences shot, which allowed small exchanges of smiles, misunderstandings (Oli who did not understand why we no longer pulled his chain and tried to discreetly sign us to do so, when Specter had said no), the handshake of Doom who came to greet the extras who were behind him… During the breaks, which could sometimes last a long time (we had croque-monsieur to satiate us), the group was never far either. The opportunity for us to confirm what we already know: Oli is a Greek God, Doom is a DILF, Paul is super cool, Flake is Flake, Richard smokes "like a firefighter" (a lot) and Till is very cool (he wandered around a lot among the extras, and not only to lower their underpants) but also weird (he smashed a wall of the "cage" with a punch without anyone understanding why, if it was for pleasure to break or out of anger).

DAY #6: 𝐟𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐦𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫
Been absolutely dreading this question since I first decided to do this thing because I don't want to give a single, straight answer, like that makes me feel like an animal being eaten alive by lions :((((((( Each one of these six has so much going for them, like they all have unique traits that are stronger than their bandmates' when it comes to that specific detail, and their individuality makes them all so wonderful, just in different ways - but each set of traits builds up to make them ultimately all around equally desirable. Does that make any sense? I'm going to address my I think top two, but I'll reluctantly pick an ultimate "favorite," the guy that just sparks the most joy when I see something about him: Richard.
Tumblr media
We love a goofy goober in this house and I think this is what I find most appealing in him, that and the fact he's so unabashedly himself. He's very charismatic, to me. As well, I think as someone with self-esteem issues, watching someone be seemingly content and confident in themselves makes me happy and is inspiring. I just wanna love myself like RZK loves himself, u kno? Also full disclosure (in case I'm not ✨obvious✨ enough about it on this blog) I just find him insanely fucking attractive in this way that turns me back into Monkey facing carnal desires a-and I'd let him do anyth
Tumblr media
SO HEY HOW 'BOUT OLLIE?????????? Ollie's probably my second overall favorite, and he was actually originally the first guy I was most into in the band. He's the one I relate most to by far; I'm also a shy, usually extremely quiet person, and I'm also big on nature and even pursuing a photography career personally, so I lost all amounts of chill when I found out he enjoys it as a hobby, too. He's the member whose smiles and laughs excite and warm my heart the most, seeing his usually more serious demeanor break and just have fun. He's just MAD fuckin cute ok
Decided I wanna add a VERY brief description of what I love most about the others, too. No order here, I just feel really bad not including them in a mushy love letter of a post kalsjdlkwear
till: fucking fearless sovereign of all imaginable and yet-to-be-imagined chaos, literal feral animal that cannot be stopped by god, and also he is truly, in his core, an artist
paul: he's so............. baby. such a wholesome motherfucker that has done no wrong in his entire life and i truly believe he descended from the heavens to guide us all
schneider: i really appreciate how in-touch with his emotions he seems, and he's always seemed so appreciative, friendly, and just likable as a human being to me.
flake: i revere him greatly for blending in with humanity as an actual alien for 60 years, very impressive. another wacky motherfucker and we all about wacky motherfuckers here. made of gold even when not wearing it. also can FUNK, +50 points
previous days: 1.) favorite song 2.) favorite era 3.) favorite single 4.) favorite album 5.) favorite music video

You asked for some metal music stuff. So hey. I’m Richard I’m a factive of Rzk from Rammstein and I’m in @the-snitch-anon-system. My favourite riff that I’ve done probably has to be in Adios. It’s played at 2 minutes 8 seconds. It’s from the album Mutter and that was probably our most stressful album as we had to write some new songs for it. The song itself is about something I closely related to at the time of writing (it’s about substances) and i tend to look back at that song and remind myself how far I’ve come from it.
I haven't listened to this before so Ill live blog it.
I'm assuming you mean Adieu? I couldn't find an Adios and they translate the simil
Ok dude the aesthetic of the opening of the video first thing is like hella cool ngl and the choral aspects are such Riku TM shit
Dude the guitar is great. WAIT I FOUND ADIOS.
Adieu though actually has a really good sound to it and there is a rift there that is pretty neat and fancy so for Adieu Ill give it a good 8/10 from first listen. Not a huge fan of the vocals in that song but its good. I wouldn't mind listening to it from time to time.
Ooooh I really like the guitar here (so far just in general not at the 2 minute ish area). I reallly like it. It's simple but it really does its role and service to itself. It has that classic metal-rock sound and never classics are classics for a reason
Oooooooh I really like the slow part, very emotive great and in amazing contrast to the rest of the song - gives it a really calm highlight to that section which really brings out the moody (/affectionate) energy of it which just amplifies it *chefs kiss* Beautiful love to see that pulled off well in songs
YESSSS I love it when they (artists) do that. Quiet part, silence for 4 or so beats and then same part but repeated in the actual metal-rock sound and like 10x louder. It very much is great for capturing an essence of like vulnerability turned into something similar to a breakdown or a shout in my opinion when in conjunction with the overall moodier, gloomier minor sound. (I actually had to look it up and of course its D minor, D minor is like one of OUR favorite keys)
I really need to stop pausing it, I'm not even at the rift in question smh. It's just good ok.
I'm not sure if its me hearing things but do they slow the tempo down like 5 bpm or something before the rift? Ever so slightly? Cause I THINK I hear it but I'm not 100% sure if I'm just imagining it or if its an auditory illusion
Dude DUDE. That is such a sexy rift /platonic. That is SO fucking good. Hype as fuck. Dude DUDE. Its repetitive but good GOD is it so fucking good its so fucking hype good recommendation I love this rift too.
Overall 9/10. Very much like the song but probably wouldn't put it on my playlist solely on aesthetic value because I have a very specific Sound TM to my main playlist of rock-metal shit but fucking good. 10/10 recommendation. Might actually look more into this band should I get the time and remember.

After listening to the isolated vocals, am I crazy or is it actually Richard and not Till who shouts DEUTSCHLAND??!
Hi 🎶
I can't determine this for sure, yet the voice who sings "Deutschland" does sound more like Richard than Till, and my subconsciousness kind of always thought of this part as Richard's.
He does have some great potential as a supporting background singer to bring different emotional layers to the song (as we know from 'Asche zu Asche' with his growling for example), and he was apparently also considered as a backing vocalist for 'Zeit' - here's a snippet with his background singing:
Source again: Voiden on YouTube (posting a snippet in here to grant easier access)
Yet his voice can sometimes sound quite 'sharp' so to speak, so I can imagine it doesn't always fit the atmosphere of a song.
Regarding 'Deutschland', maybe some other members of the fandom also have this impression or a completely different one, would be interesting to know 😊

Use your imagination and put together a compilation of things only dive Reesh would say.
Ooooooh this’ll be fun! (I’m assuming you meant “diva Reesh”)
- “It’s not gay, it’s called fashion!”
- “What do you mean my shirt looks like a house plant?”
- “Oh, it’s okay, I’m famous. I can smoke wherever I want.”
- *waitress asks him to pay* “Honey, haven’t you heard? Stars never pay.” *walks out of diner*
- “You can’t tell me what to do, this is my world, I’ve already established that in a song of mine. Start paying attention, would you?” *tosses Emigrate CD to person*
- “I look so great, I would fuck myself right now if I could.”
- “Not anyone can play guitar in Rammstein. It takes someone with a specific set of skills like myself.”
- “I mean, Rammstein wouldn’t even be Rammstein without me, and we all know that.”
- “Well, I think we should go with my idea because my ideas are always the best.”
- “Out of my way, my initials are cooler than yours.”
- “Do you see this nice ass? I worked hard for it. Don’t disrespect me like that ever again.”
Okay so I know he’d probably never say any of these but I mean come on, we all know he’s thinking all of these!

For a variety of reasons, I got into a bit of a rabbit hole about Richard's guitars, and my brain went "oh I know someone who will probably have opinions on this" so essentially, if you feel like it, pretty please talk RZK guitars to me? Favourite? Retired one that needs to come back? (Though I probably already know the answer, that fancy black one?)
Allrighty, buckle up because this is gonna be long. After much consideration I have decided to split it up in two parts because I don’t think I can make it fit into one post that is still vaguely tumblr appropriate, and I really wanted to do it some sort of justice. I still feel like I don’t. But oh well. Full disclaimer, I am NOT a guitarist, but I lived with a few, two of my best friends are pro players and I’m a sponge so I kind of soaked some bits and pieces up over the last 15 years. But in case any lost guitar hero finds this and disagrees with me over the finer points of tone wood: I know honey, I oversimplified, and I am wrong. I tried? 💜 for easier read I formatted everything specific to Richard’s guitars normally and anything general about electric guitars in cursive.
My main sources besides watching about a 100 a month of guitar tube videos (that is youtube for guitarists) with my ex, my main sources will be this interview and this.
Richard Z. Kruspe (of Rammstein and Emigrate)’s Guitars - In Order of Appearance, Part 1/2
Diamant (Les Paul Style)
“I traded the acoustic for a guitar called Diamant, which was like a Les Paul version in East Germany.” - RZK
Now I’m skipping the acoustic he started out with, because it’s basically impossible to know what that was, and go straight into the electric. Now presumably, it would have been something like this, a soviet build Les Paul rip off. The irony is that these still go for several thousands up on reverb today for being historical and collectors pieces. The thing is, that while anything east build might have used cheaper materials, I would assume this thing isn’t worse than any of the beginner/intermediate models sold today, if not better, and kids all over the world do decent stiff with those.
Tumblr media
Something general about electric guitars is that you don’t really so much play the guitar, you play an entire system. The instrument doesn’t make the sound, it only influences it. You play a guitar - but you even more so play the amp. Which makes this a bit tricky, because an e-guitar is a slab of wood and a copper coil, and amps are way more complex. You can make the exact same guitar sound so many ways. Still - there are tendencies. The fact how and why and to which degree the shape and wood of a solid body (a guitar without a hollow wood piece) influences the sound is highly debated and can get a bit esoteric sounding to sane people non-guitarists, but there are some differences in how the general set up and build of the guitar changes things, and tendencies how they are traditionally outfitted. Les Paul style guitars are normally humbucker guitars, Stratocasters and Telecasters normally are outfitted with single coils. Usually a guitarist can switch - between using the bridge, the neck, or both (or more) pick ups and depending on where the pick up is located they pick up different frequencies, different aspects of the sound. Humbuckers produce a richer, deeper or fuller sound than single coils. Very roughly speaking, think the Stones vs. Metallica.
Fender Stratocaster
“Then in East Germany, we had this imagination to get one of the great guitars, to me it was always the Fender Stratocaster because it was the Jimi Hendrix guitar. I didn’t know anything about pickups or humbuckers or whatever. So there was this guy that I met in a café in my old hometown and he was buying all these books because he could get all the books out through customs and he would store them in my apartment. So we became kind of acquainted. He would come over and pick up the books. So one time he came over and I asked him if he could get me a guitar and bring it over. In East Germany, if you exchange money from East to West it would be like 1 East mark and 20 West mark. SO everything I had, I changed it to West Mark and I gave him the money and I gave him the money and asked him to please buy me a Fender Stratocaster. I gave him the money and I didn’t hear anything for like three months, nothing. I wasn’t able to call because we didn’t have phones and stuff like that – it was a different time. So I thought fuck, I gave him 1400 west mark and now he’s gone and never coming back. [...] Then my imagination was so high, I thought the guitar would just play by itself and I wouldn’t really have to do anything, which I found out was bullshit. I was really happy that I had the guitar but it wasn’t really the sound that I had in mind.” - RZK
The first time I heard that story, I literally went “no, no, no, don’t be stupid, don’t give him your money, you won’t even like that guitar, stupid, lost dumbass.” I can not, for the life of me, imagine him play anything other than humbuckers. He apparently does use single coils for some things today again in the studio, but still, it’s so obviously wrong. He did play one again sometime during the late 90s, but I couldn’t find anything on the pick ups he used with that, but can hardly imagine he kept the original, unless he needed it for a specific sound maybe in one or two songs. I get it though. For many, many people the Fender Stratocaster is THE guitar. Jimi Hendrix is the main reason for that, but it’s also the countless idols that picked it up after him for the same reason, people who ended up plastered on the walls of angsty teenagers in their own right. This totally has to do with the whole amp thing aswell. You see your idol play that type of guitar ... but it’s not even half of the sound, and it won’t sound the same. Maybe probably they changed the pick ups, they have an effect rig, the spend hours fiddling with the knobs on an amp you can never afford. It’s never the same. Which is why ...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fender Telecaster Black Gold
Then I had a guitar that I was very fond of. It was an older black and gold telecaster – there weren’t very many of them made at that point. I put a Seymour Duncan Jeff Beck SH-4 in there, like a humbucker. I remember it was like my beauty guitar and I needed someone to put that pickup in and I was with Paul and he had more experience with that stuff than me so he would get out a hammer and a chisel and he start banging away on it and I was like ‘Fuck! Fuck! Don’t do that!’ but we put the thing in there and it was one of my favorite guitars” - RZK
Tumblr media
... this one first didn’t really make sense for me for him. It’s even more a classic single coil guitar than the Strat is, and it only really started making sense for me when I learned he Paul indeed put a Humbucker in there. It’s a stunningly beautiful guitar, and weirdly non-modern for him. I don’t know why and this is completely instinctual on my part, but I find it fitting he played it during that time after the wall came down, which seems to have been a rough time for him generally, it seems like a somehow super emotional guitar, this relic. Telecasters were some of the first electrics ever build, it’s such a pioneer, but it’s also one that alot of punk bands used, possibly because they were old and cheap in the 70s and noisy and people customized it and put other pick ups in. The whole putting a chisel to it and adding a humbucker into it is such a “I’m gonna make whatever I have fit for me, and I’ll love it” move. If you look at it, a double coil pick up is really something you have to force to go in there, you really have to break it open. There is also this:
“... and then I think I had to sell it because I needed drugs or something. I was really sad that I sold it because I was at a very low point in my life.” - RZK
Tumblr media
If I would get the chance to do one thing only for him to thank him for his music, I would go back in time to that Richard who is just sad about selling that guitar and hug him, and tell him he doesn’t need to worry, because they will name guitars after him in the future. It breaks my heart so fucking much. But of course, it’s what opens the doors to what happens next, which is ...
ESP 901
Tumblr media
“That led me to my very first convention in Frankfurt. With guitars, it is like with women, you have to fall in love. Sometimes you get a guitar and you fall in love later but there has to be some sort of connection with it. So I was walking around that convention and I saw that guitar hanging at the ESP stand. It was a 901 ESP Sunburst and I was looking at it because it was such a beauty. And I was walking around for hours – they probably thought I was some weird guy who wants to steal the guitar. I bought that guitar and that’s how I got connected with ESP.” -RZK
He might have fallen for it because it is pretty, but it did come with a ESP double humbucker set up, with an added condensator to muffle up the sound, although not yet an active one (more on that later). It was a 90s metal guitar, one of those things marketed to the Metallica generation, something loud and heavy and full. Also, and this is where I will put in another general insert, there is something else about the choice of electric guitars that we haven’t talked about yet.
Now, I’ve discussed that you can push or pull the sound of a electric quite far in one or the other direction with what pick ups you use, what effects, what amps. But what this ignores is that especially standing up a guitar is a really shitty asymmetrical piece of equipment. And what that does to your body is that it needs to fit you, your hands, and your playing style. Some people prefer it chunky, others like sender. Guitarists, especially the 80s shredders, like to talk about a “fast neck”, which is another one of those things that get slightly esoteric, but which usually means a slimmer neck and slightly bigger frets, that need less way for your fingers to press until the string gets stopped. Someone who plays very bendy blues might dislike that and prefer something to dig in their fingers more down to the fretboard to get more control over how they bend the string. There are different neck profiles, there are different neck lengths, and all of it contributes to how comfortable someone might find their guitar.
I am mentioning this, because until today, Richard’s guitars are build very similarly to that ESP 901. His Eclipse Model is a tad different (again, more on that later), but the one he uses the most, the RZK I, has the same neck scale, similar frets, and that comfortable ESP slender neck. Even the shape seems to be inspired by turning it upside down. He has said in interviews that he hasn’t got very strong hands, and it makes perfect sense to me. I bought my own electric (again, more on that later) purely because I wanted to own one and not even so much because I ever had any real ambitions of learning to play it, but my friends at the time (10 years ago now) forced me to try out alot (!) of models (despite me knowing what I wanted), and the only guitars that I tried that had slimmer necks were Ibanez guitars, which in turn were wider. Ironically Frankfurt is my hometown, so the place to try a lot of different models is That exact convention Richard went to, and I haven’t skipped a Musikmesse in the last 15 years. I was at atleast one were Richard was too (I just didn’t care at the time, yikes), and it somehow greatly pleases me he found “his” guitar at that particular convention. Things have changed in recent years, but electric guitars always were in Hall 4.01, with ESP being left of center in the middle, and I don’t know, I can just see him walking in circles around it, and it makes me so emotional for him because it’s what musicians do at that place. It’s really loud, everyone is playing, there is someone better noodling around at every corner, and it can be quite an intimidating setting I think. And every year you see that one kid coming back and back again to that same stand, staring at that one guitar until they finally work up the nerve and ask to try it (or the staff takes pity on them and offer). And it’s the same everytime, they think “oh god they must think I am crazy” but really, nobody does. Everyone in that hall who owns a heart knows what those dreams are made of, and all it maybe does inspire is a “oh god, I hope that one makes it”. I digress. I think it’s more common now to look for different neck styles and companies started caring about it, but especially coming from Fender and Gibson guitars, that neck is honestly just very, very nice for weaker hands.
This is where I will stop, because it makes a good moment for a break and this post is honestly getting too out of hand otherwise. There will be a part 2 - where Richard starts using active pick ups, starts playing my favorite guitar in the whole wide world (and stops playing it), and finally, set up his own signature.
This is him with that 901 though: when he must have had it pretty much brandnew, while he used it, and right before he sold it.

Promo "Liebe Ist Für Alle Da" (2009), Richard Z. Kruspe  — Interview by Philip Lageat, 07-09-2009 (Rock Hard #92)
Rock Hard : In the first song on the album, Till (Lindemann / vocals) talks about "collective". Is Rammstein still able to function as a collective or is it just the sum of its individualities ?
Richard Z. Kruspe : In the end, we have to be a collective for Rammstein to work and create. And this, even if - I'm only speaking here for myself - I'm not really a collective player. I have to admit that this notion does not fit well with my personality. However, in order to survive, Rammstein must function as a team. If one of us, no matter who, became the leader of the group, it wouldn't work. And God knows if, each in turn, we tried to take control ! (laughs) Rammstein being more important and bigger than us, we have to rally to the collective, even if we have to force ourselves to do so. Sometimes I realize how stupid these brawls and shouts are. But I think you have to take a sufficient step back to be able to realize this. And we don't always have this hindsight...
RH : When we interviewed Oliver (Riedel / bass) in Paris before the release of Rosenrot, he told us : "I admit, we are washed out. This is the reason why we are considering this prolonged hiatus... Is it still possible that we go on vacation together ? No, I don't think so..."
RZK : As I said, you have to know how to distance yourself and take breaks from time to time. Since our beginnings, we have toured so intensively that it had become essential that each of us breathe a little and recharge our batteries. I needed and wanted to complete my Emigrate project, I had to do something else, to realize that there was something other than Rammstein in this world. It is something quite natural in the end. We must not believe that success has changed us. It is the time we spent together that is responsible. Six guys aren't supposed to spend that many hours with each other, almost 24 hours a day, for that many years. Imagine seeing your best friends every day, invariably, and you'll understand better what I mean. This is undesirable, let alone viable. In the end, you end up not being able to see your comrades in painting !
RH : Paul H. Landers (guitar) recently said in an interview that this new album should cost 60 or 70 euros if its price was proportional to the amount of pain it had generated. Was it that difficult ?
RZK : Each album has been difficult, but the man tends to forget the bad times to keep only the best. Nevertheless, I agree with Paul, this record, from the start, cost us a lot of effort and caused a lot of suffering. I said it in the preamble, the only thing I really waited for was to finish it, to see the end of it. I ended up mocking at the way the album sounded. I even did some things for the sole purpose of having peace.
RH : What is its title ?
RZK : Liebe Ist Für Alle Da ! Until now, we've always named our records after the title of one of their tracks, but that almost didn't happen this time around because no song seemed to sum up the album. For a moment we thought of "Zeit Bereit", which was the working title of "Wiener Blut", but we gave up. So we racked our brains, until I listened to "Liebe Ist Für Alle Da" again. At first, I found it a bit predictable, and then, thinking about it, I thought to myself that it could be very spiritual. In my head, I saw a man sexually abusing an animal and this mention above them : "Love for all !". And I said to myself that we had a theme there that was worth remembering : if love is for everyone, then does that mean that we must also love those who do bad things ? Are we really ready to forgive them for their actions ? I found it interesting, especially since, given the heavy side of the record, there was this gap between music and lyrics that I found nice. To me that made sense.
RH : How has the meaning of the word "love" changed for you since Rammstein became successful ?
RZK : In life, either you live a passion, or you seek happiness. The two, in my opinion, are not compatible. Someone who has some artistic success, whether in music or art itself, is never fully happy because he has to create. I sincerely believe that if you want to live and suffer happily, you must not make music. This is only my opinion...
