house of flame and shadow ; sarah j maas
this is floating somewhere between a high 3, low 4 stars for me. there was a lot to love and a LOT that could have been (and should have been) executed better. overall, i liked how everything wrapped up and how each character arc was completed. i've always said that 'house of earth and blood' is my favourite sjm novel, and this finale, although nowhere near a perfect conclusion, definitely didn't let the characters or the series down.
saying that, i have issues with the amount of plot conveniences in here. certain scenes felt so ridiculous and out of the bounds of logic that i had to laugh. it was difficult to suspend disbelief at times
nonetheless, i love these characters, and i love this world. this book was pure entertainment; i had so much fun reading and discussing with online friends. is it flawed? absolutely. but it was still a solid conclusion to a series i've been reading and loving for years now!!

Sure I’m glad (mostly) that YA is the booming juggernaut it is today because it’s cool that 14 year olds can have stories for them. Sure. More books is always better. That’s fun— thoughts on book influencer culture and grown-ups and literature as soulless and ever-churning product aside. It’s cool to walk into any tiny neighborhood library branch and see a dedicated space for teenagers. When I was a young teenager there were a couple of small shelves in between adult audiobooks and the biographical section where you walked in and your choices were either Twilight, Eragon, or some candy-pink Sex And The City-lite dishy little book like the one that has got some reason come rushing unbidden to the forefront of my memory this morning called “Vegan Virgin Valentine” which I never wound up reading but was always compelled by through a mixture of intrigue and condescension. The YA landscape pre-Hunger Games mania was like…here’s a super scandalous book about anorexia or teen pregnancy written in verse. Or a pandering Book For Boys about combat or fart humor. Or a twilight knock-off about a girl who has sex with a ghost. So while any glimpse of the bloated realm of teen publishing makes me feel exhausted on account of the feverish adult fans who populate it it’s probably full of important stories for teenagers. But like truly Kids These Days have no idea what it’s like to have your only option be called “The Earth, My Butt, And Other Big Round Things” (real) or “Everlost: Soulfyre Book 3” (fabricated poorly for effect)

It really annoys me when people say that Elain and Lucien´s mating bond is fake. Like duuuuuude.
I´m not saying they're endgame because even though I ship them I know it has not been confirmed. But the fact is that Elan and Lucien are mates, no it's not Tamlin, no it's not Azriel.
Lucien is Elain´s mate and here are 2 facts that are just irrefutable.
When Elain was in a really bad place in ACOWAR Lucien actually tugged the bond and Elain snapped out of her "spacing and zoning everyone out" and asked Lucien what did he do. And he said "I tugged the mating bond"
Solstice on ACOSF Azriel is uncomfortable because he can smell the bond between Elain and Lucien. The Mating Bond. Azriel is the one who smells it, Nesta smells it to and she says is a strong scent.
So the point is... you don't have to ship Elucien but you can't just ignore what's cannon and bend it so it fits your theories.

Top 5 (series I will start in 2024) Tuesday
Technically there’s no way I should be starting any new series this year because I have about 900 I have to finish. But I know I’ll start new ones anyway 😂. I blame Meeghan @ Meeghan Reads and so should you! Not really, well, eh, maybe half 😂. 📚🚀📚 The Sunbearer Trials by Aiden Thomas (GR/SG) – Welcome to The Sunbearer Trials, where teen semidioses compete in a series of challenges with the…

So something that irked me about books for the longest time and I only recently figured it out is the limited diversity. And I don't mean racial diversity because that situation is getting better (slowly).
Right now I have in mind that authors don't create their own cultural diversity. When you look at people around the world we are not only different in race and skin color but culture and language and all of that.
That was something that bugged me when I was reading ACOTAR for example, that there were all these courts but... There was nothing really distinct separating them. I think S. J. Maas just said to herself that creating a world with vaguely different temperatures in different places is fine enough, called them courts and went with it.
But where is the flavor? The dialects? The weird traditions and habits of the people? Different holidays or ways of celebrating the same holidays? Traditional clothes? Signature colors? I could get over there only being one language but please at least give me some distinction.
I hate always coming back to Six of Crows but it's like the only book I have ever read. ANYWAYS I personally really enjoyed how all the countries were different. AND INEJ'S PROVERBS THAT MADE SENSE TO NO ONE ELSE.
Please just... Just a little more spice...
I definitely will elaborate I'm just too tired rn.

This is inspired by the time Feyre spent at the Spring Court in ACOWAR. I kept picturing Lucien whispering to Tamlin: "She is wearing a NIGHT SKY DRESS, don't you feel like it's a tiny bit suspicious??" and no one listened to him because they all had thorns up their... ears. Also, this started as a study of Waterhouse's painting "The Crystal Ball".

MARCH WRAP UP | what if i read every sjm book in one month? haha no but srsly
Hey friends, welcome to or welcome back to my blog! I started this month not really knowing what I wanted to read and then all of a sudden I got the urge to reread the ACOTAR series but I didn’t have the first book on audio (at the time) so I ended up putting it on hold on Libby (I think I was 103rd in line??? 💀). But, that put me in a weird hyperfixation position because all I could think about…

The Read-Cap: Week of February 10, 2024
Discussing the last week I've what I've been reading and what I plan on reading next.
The better part of the week was spent reading House of Flame and Shadow, the third book in the Crescent City series, by Sarah J. Maas and then I just really wanted ‘lighter’ books before I jumped back into finishing the Foul Lady Fortune duology by Chloe Gong. If you are new to the Read-Cap this a weekly post I’m doing where I share what I’ve been reading in the last week and what I plan on…

My gremlin brain jumps between the same three favourite fantastic creatures: dragons, mermaids and werewolves. I got around writing something about werewolves, did like what I wrote, slept peacefully.
I've been trying to do the same with the other two. Tried a few times, it didn't work out... but I might have thought a satisfying fanfic plot regarding dragons !!!
Granted, I "merged" them with fae lore, but it still counts for me 👁👁
What's funny is that most of my recent fanfiction for this fandom and ship are exploring selfishness thematic ramifications... I wonder why. I'm sensing a pattern... 📸
