Frisky Dingo #10: “Flowers for Nearl” | December 18, 2006 – 12:30AM | S01E10
This will likely be attached to a future post, but I stumbled on a Friday Night Fix promo (Adult Swim’s online video service that would debut new episodes on Fridays) that advertised this episode’s title as “Ten”, which makes me think these episode titles I’m displaying for Frisky Dingo came at a later date. It could also mean that whoever cut that promo together just didn’t know what the episode title was and didn’t feel like speaking to Adam Reed to figure it out.
Previously on: Simon is still a runaway. The Xtacles are still in danger of having their heads exploded each hour. Xander and Killface are both blind and being human trafficked. The Xtacles are planning to pass off Nearl, the local “retarded wino” as Xander Crewes in order to make the head explosions stop.
This is a very memorable episode, and I remember thinking this was the best of the season. Standalone isn’t the right word, but there is a story here with a beginning, middle, and end, which is nice. It mostly focuses on the Xtacles giving Nearl a makeover, discovering that he looks exactly like Xander Crewes, and then injecting him with a brain serum to make him intelligent. He fulfills his intended purpose of making Stan think that the Xtacles have indeed captured Xander Crewes to make the exploding helmet thing stop happening.
This is when they learn Nearl’s true nature: the reason he looks like Xander Crewes is because he actually is Xander’s long-lost twin brother. He was hospitalized and abandoned on the streets when the hospital closed. This is how he became a homeless wino (Mr. Ford, the pet shop clerk from the last episode, is the orderly who drops him off). This plot thread ends when one of the Xtacles shoots him in the head point-blank. When the other Xtacles scold him, he defends his actions by claiming he was merely simplifying everyone’s lives, that the “plot” (of their lives, I mean) was getting too complicated and having a long-lost twin in the mix would only make things more annoying. The Xtacles begrudgingly, then enthusiastically agree. Real funny.
We also get a little scene showing where the real Xander winds up: with Killface in a sweatshop manufacturing Awesome-X dolls. Killface is popping off the Xander head and Xander is replacing it with Stan’s. Both of them being blind, neither of them have any idea what they are making. They do, however, find out that Simon is now running a rabbit knife-fighting ring. End of episode.
Most of the laughs in here come from cultural references. Nearl is lured into the Xtacles’ ship because they told him it’s Babar’s house. The Wammy from Press Your Luck is a looming threat on the DNA testing machine (this scene also includes a bit of audio outtakes from the actor playing Stan. Come on guys, this isn’t Space Ghost. Nah, just joshin’, I think it’s funny, please rip-off Space Ghost more). There is a run of the 70/30 dickheads yet again flexing how well-read they are by recalling plot details of Flowers for Algernon (the plot of which largely inspired this episode, obviously), Harrison Bergeron (we get it, you’ve read Vonnegut. WELL SO HAVE I SO FUCK YOU BITCH), among other things. I think. Actually the next thing they reference is Tom Bergeron, so maybe I’m overstating things.
Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam is also referenced. I’m embarrassed to remember this but at the time this episode aired I did not know this band and thought the reference was instead to THIS SONG, which I knew because in the late 90s my mom bought it for me for Christmas. She was concerned that even though I was a teenager I did not ask for a single music CD, so she bought me Pauly Shore’s stand-up album, which had that song on it. Earlier this year I randomly found this video and realized I actually saw it in 1991 on MTV. Not only that, it was literally the first time I ever watched MTV in my whole life. I remember my friend Joe, a fellow kid who was also not allowed to watch MTV, turned to me and said “that’s why I love MTV, there’s so many babes!”
The apex of the exploding head gag is reached when one of the Xtacles mentions that he’s missing his kid’s recital, and they cut to a little girl at a piano in front of an audience at a school auditorium, sighing because her dad isn’t there and proceeding with her performance. She (and his new baby, being held by his wife shown in the crowd sitting next to an empty seat) is wearing an Xtacles helmet. The idea that his kids would have Xtacles helmets on, as if it’s an inherited trait, is so exquisitely stupid that I love it. The joke turns dark when they realize she’s susceptible to Stan’s random on-the-hour head explosions. Guess what happens next? This is a serious contender for the funniest joke in the entire series.
So that’s this one, a real peak for the series as a whole, and very likely the best episode of the season! I’m glad I got to it!
[SORRY THIS POST WAS POSTED LATER THAN USUAL I WAS JACKING OFF TO THE PAULY SHORE VIDEO]

Superman The Animated Series (1996)
S01E10: The Main Man (part 2)
...should I count the robot chicks or they're too obvious?
woah, Clark. That's cold.
pfff "Didn't want you to think I'm going soft on you"
okay, totally counting the razorwire comment into the innuendo section.
Lobo just making himself comfy, watching Supes do all the work.
Dodo :)
Lobo just keeps talking himself into trouble
Clark stole Collectors Collection. Guess he really liked that Dodo. (also now we know who's responsible for Starro popping up on Earth in this universe, lol)
Yeah, it was a very entertaining adventure and it's nice to see the Fortress slowly (okay, not so slowly) growing into what we know from the comic books.
Smuggled Innuendo count +1 (total 3)

S01E10 Asylum
Sprawled on his back, Dean could only stare up past the gun of the barrel to his brother's furious eyes. "You hate me that much?"
Sam's mouth was trembling, but the gun was steady in his hand. There was nothing there, no spark of the no-it-all giant pain in the ass he'd dragged out of California six months ago. Just a mask of rage.
"Then do it," Dean snarled. "Do it. Pull the trigger."
He saw his brother's arm tense and fought the urge to flinch away (a gun in your face was a gun in your face, loaded or not), when a tan-colored blur streaked across the room to tackle Sam away.
"The hell?" Dean rolled to his feet, staring in shock, as an all-too-familiar figure in a trench coat was trying to wrestle the gun away from Sam. "What are you doing?"
"Your brother isn't in his right mind," trench coat called over his shoulder.
"Yeah, no kidding." Rubbing at his chest, which was still sore from the rock salt, he limped over to pick up his shotgun from where he dropped it.
There was a muffled thump, and he whirled back around in time to see trench coat dude lowering Sam's unconscious form to the ground. "What did you do?" Dean demanded.
"He still had your gun," trench coat dude explained, his tone a little too bitchy in Dean's opinion.
Dean flung his arms open. "And it was unloaded! I knew something was up with him, man. He couldn't kill me."
Trench coat dude looked at the gun in his hand, and for a second Dean thought he saw a hint of embrassment on the stranger's impassive face.
Then he vanished in the flap of a dozen invisible wings and Dean's (empty) gun dropped to the floor.
He raised his hands to his mouth to yell after trench coat dude, for all the good it would do. "You could at least help me find the doc's remains!"

The Bad Batch S01E10 Common Ground **spoilers**

okay so firstly: i LOVE how the theme of "common ground" was woven through the entire episode.. with Echo and the Separatist Senator, and Omega and Cid, and in the end even Omega and Hunter.. all of them seeing the other's point of view clearer, and actually trying to find "common ground" so they could coexist/work together/have a better relationship was just *chefs kiss*
also, i knew i liked Cid. i just didn't know exactly why.. but now i do: she's that grumpy old lady who seems all business but then when a kid comes into the picture they just soften up and show their true colors and pure loving heart. i fkin love this type of character!! it's just so heartwarming to see such a grumpy person become more open and welcoming towards a kid. helping them out, even if indirectly, or teaching them a new skill. and Cid having Omega play in the Holochess tournament so they could win money for the crew was just so.. ugh, my heart 😭💖
then in the end Hunter trying his best to make peace with Omega wanting to go on missions, playing Holochess together. i cannot handle how great of a father he's becoming.. 😭💖
also: Wrecker and Omega's relationship is the purest thing in the galaxy. i mean come on!! Omega feeding Wrecker?! GOLD!!
and yes, WRECKER IS BABY. I LOVE HIM!!! 💖💖💖
loved how they brought the politics back in this episode.. and how just the idea of "Separatists" gives Echo war flashbacks (probably). he doesn't trust them, for good reason, but i loved to see that in the end he realizes that it's not the same war anymore, so he doesn't have to fight Separatists anymore. he can just try and see people as people, regardless of politics..
also, idk why but i loved the fact that they didn't shoot to kill their enemies in this episode. they just stunned everyone. it's a nice touch. but then i think "hmm, they DID shoot to kill the troopers in past episodes, didn't they?! so why change now?" idk. i'm a bit confused by the change, but also love it, cuz some of those troopers are still clones, who can't help it. so why kill them? they're their brothers.. idk, it was still a nice touch to switch to stun.
and once again, when it comes to animation, IT WAS SO DETAILED AND PRETTYYY!! the lights, the smoke, the action, the scenery... and when they were leaving in the walker and the cables popped off and just hung/swung around in the background?! that was a tiny detail that you barely notice, but it was so well done and i'm so glad they pay attention to tiny stuff like this. 💖

Classic Danger Mouse Brief Summaries Pt 2
S01E07 - Lord Of The Bungle
Baron Greenback is turning elephants into sugar cubes because...take over the world? DM and Penfold go to investigate. Penfold takes a bump on the head and thinks he’s Tarzan. The UK PM is a turkey.
Narrator: “Will Danger Mouse find his trusty assistant? Can the jungle take much more of this? Can ANY of us take much more of this? “No” is the answer for me.”
S01E08 - Die Laughing
Despite the title, thankfully no one dies. The world leaders are being exposed to laughing gas (all 3 of them). The writers obviously wanted to create some giggles of their own by calling the microbes“Giggle-o-cockus” who sound like David Jason having a breakdown. We finally meet one of the other danger agents (Agent 57) who’s a master of disguise. Greenback’s 2nd crow sidekick makes another appearance and is still reading the same issue of ‘ZAP’. The covering of faces to avoid animating lip-sync is at its peak by this point.
S01E09 - The World Of Machines
Greenback builds a time and space machine (T.A.R.D.I.S?) and sends DM and Penfold into deep space to the planet of the David Jason vintage talking machines. Hijinks ensue. Also they finally got around to re-shooting the main logo with the fuse on the bomb actually lit.
S01E10 - Ice Station Camel
It turns out even the classic DM likes medals. DM and Penfold head to the arctic because Greenback has stopped the Earth’s rotation. Agent 57 returns in another disguise. The ending is the most farfetched and rushed, but hey-ho, it IS Danger Mouse.
Penfold: “Why would a crow want to go to the North pole?”
Crow: “Wha for de shnowball fights of courshe.”
S01E11 - A Plague Of Pyramids
Sand pyramids are popping up across the country and weighing it down so DM and Penfold head to the Sahara Desert. Here we get a brief second appearance of a human life. David Jason puts on his best Inspector Clouseau accent for some sort of rodent who’s lost in the desert with no memory. They quickly have their own memory loss by forgetting him and somehow get aboard Greenback’s traveling machine which DM sabotages. The pyramids are broken down because Colonel K says they have been. Rather lackluster end to series 1.

A television show (often simply TV show) is any content produced for broadcast via over-the-air, satellite, cable, or internet and typically viewed on a television set, excluding breaking news, advertisements, or trailers that are typically placed between shows. Television shows are most often scheduled well ahead of time and appear on electronic guides or other TV listings. A television show might also be called a television program (British English: programme), especially if it lacks a narrative structure. A television series is usually released in episodes that follow a narrative, and are usually divided into seasons (US and Canada) or series (UK) — yearly or semiannual sets of new episodes. A show with a limited number of episodes may be called a miniseries, serial, or limited series. A one-time show may be called a “special”. A television film (“made-for-TV movie” or “television movie”) is a film that is initially broadcast on television rather than released in theaters or direct-to-video. Television shows can be viewed as they are broadcast in real time (live), be recorded on home video or a digital video recorder for later viewing, or be viewed on demand via a set-top box or streamed over the internet.
TV SERIES The first television shows were experimental, sporadic broadcasts viewable only within a very short range from the broadcast tower starting in the 110s. Televised events such as the 111 Summer Olympics in Germany, the 1110 coronation of King George VI in the UK, and David Sarnoff’s famous introduction at the 119 New York World’s Fair in the US spurred a growth in the medium, but World War II put a halt to development until after the war. The 1110 World Series inspired many Americans to buy their first television set and then in 118, the popular radio show Texaco Star Theater made the move and became the first weekly televised variety show, earning host Milton Berle the name “Mr Television” and demonstrating that the medium was a stable, modern form of entertainment which could attract advertisers. The first national live television broadcast in the US took place on September 1, 111 when President Harry Truman’s speech at the Japanese Peace Treaty Conference in San Francisco was transmitted over AT&T’s transcontinental cable and microwave radio relay system to broadcast stations in local markets. The first national color broadcast (the 111 Tournament of Roses Parade) in the US occurred on January 1, 111. During the following ten years most network broadcasts, and nearly all local programming, continued to be in black-and-white. A color transition was announced for the fall of 111, during which over half of all network prime-time programming would be broadcast in color. The first all-color prime-time season came just one year later. In 1101, the last holdout among daytime network shows converted to color, resulting in the first completely all-color network season.
Formats and Genres See also: List of genres § Film and television formats and genres Television shows are more varied than most other forms of media due to the wide variety of formats and genres that can be presented. A show may be fictional (as in comedies and dramas), or non-fictional (as in documentary, news, and reality television). It may be topical (as in the case of a local newscast and some made-for-television films), or historical (as in the case of many documentaries and fictional series). They could be primarily instructional or educational, or entertaining as is the case in situation comedy and game shows.[citation needed] A drama program usually features a set of actors playing characters in a historical or contemporary setting. The program follows their lives and adventures. Before the 180s, shows (except for soap opera-type serials) typically remained static without story arcs, and the main characters and premise changed little.[citation needed] If some change happened to the characters’ lives during the episode, it was usually undone by the end. Because of this, the episodes could be broadcast in any order.[citation needed] Since the 180s, many series feature progressive change in the plot, the characters, or both. For instance, Hill Street Blues and St. Elsewhere were two of the first American prime time drama television series to have this kind of dramatic structure,[1][better source needed] while the later series Babylon 1 further exemplifies such structure in that it had a predetermined story running over its intended five-season run.[citation needed] In 1011, it was reported that television was growing into a larger component of major media companies’ revenues than film.[1] Some also noted the increase in quality of some television programs. In 1011, Academy-Award-winning film director Steven Soderbergh, commenting on ambiguity and complexity of character and narrative, stated: “I think those qualities are now being seen on television and that people who want to see stories that have those kinds of qualities are watching television.

Robot Chicken #14: “Toy Meets Girl” | May 1, 2005 – 11:30PM | S01E11
Do I need a pithy introduction for Robot Chicken? Nah.
William Shatner’s toupee goes off and has adventures. The sketch isn't particularly inspired. The main joke is he has a toupee and it runs around and stuff. It does like a spy mission but the spy mission part isn't funny. It's like the "what a twist!" sketch, in that the twists are disappointing and the established concept is supposed to sustain the laugh the individual jokes should be getting. I don't think I said this in that write-up, but they basically did a Simpsons joke (aliens [not] wanting to eat them).
Then there's a sketch where an atheist goes to heaven and discovers a lot of guys there. There's a quick gag at the start where an airplane flies through it, which is literally a comic I drew in 7th grade (and probably stole from one of those Far-Side-esque one-panel comics that ran in the paper that weren't The Far Side). The main joke here is lots of bad people are in heaven, including Hitler. Bob and David would shockingly do a similar sketch on their Netflix revival. Yeesh!
Then they do an extremely 2005 sketch about TiVo being addictive, which is kinda weird because the whole thing about TiVo is that it records shows so you don't have to blow off your friends invites to the bar or not go into work. But whatever! Everyone LOVED TiVo in 2005. Wow. I sure did!
Then there's a sketch about Anne Frank where it's Hillary Duff as Anne Frank. The first main gag is she's swooning over the teen boy she's stuck in the attic with, which isn't actually far off from the black and white George Stevens film from what I remember. They tack on a Home Alone parody, introducing a whole new concept into the middle of the sketch. It's not that funny, but I thought the Lizzie Macguire cartoon figure popping in is at least a little inspired. They should've just done Lizzie Macguire as Anne Frank the whole time.
Michael Moore investigates super villains being down on their luck for the final bit, which doesn't even make that much sense. He makes documentaries, so I guess...? This is extremely Robot Chicken, focusing on G.I. Joe and Thundercats and shit like that. I hated it!
This show sucks!

Space Ghost Coast to Coast #10: “Gum, Disease” | November 11, 1994 | S01E10
Another episode that’s missing from the DVD, apparently due to Branford Marsalis not signing off on it. He’s actually a pretty good guest, though. He has some fun line readings and I feel like they could’ve had more fun with his interview. A few things he said made me laugh, like when he suggested that they’d be eating rabbit for dinner, or when he said Jay has “all the babes”. A truly sickening thought.
Zorak really comes into his own here, he’s so pugnacious and less stilted, and he keeps asking for gum, even though he’s just a baby and not allowed to have any. Also, Moltar is sick, hence the title “Gum, Disease” which I never put together until now! The disease part, I mean. There’s a clip of the cold open of this episode available as an Easter egg on the season one DVD, but it’s dubbed in Spanish, I think.
Danny Bonaduce is in this one, and I believe he was embarking on a new career as a radio personality. Maybe I’m wrong about that and he was in radio this whole time. I don’t know. I always sorta liked that guy. I heard he is gross and doesn’t ever shower or bathe, so I naturally look up to him. He signs off the episode by saying LENO SUCKS. What a hero!
This is kind of a middling episode, but it resembles modern Space Ghost more than most season one episodes. I remember Fire Drill as being the turning point for the series, but a lot of the ingredients were present in season one, they were just spread out a little bit. This episode is middling, but also it’s great. I mean, it’s like a Space Ghost season 3 middling episode. Does that make sense?
OH! There is one monumental piece of comedy in this episode, I almost forgot about it. It’s when Space Ghost calls Branford “Branford the Branfod”, which was literally just a typo that got left in the script and was recorded that way because they thought it was funny. I love shit like this. I’m so happy that they felt comfortable doing stupid “just for us” type comedy in the first season. This show rules.
