FINAL for real this time: Davis (Juror 8) from Twelve Angry Men vs the Bimodal Distribution from statistics
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Propaganda under the cut, and it's REALLY worth it:
Davis (Juror 8) (these are all from the single submitter)
a quick lil list babes, and I apologise for all of this in advance:
He's from the fucking film 12 angry men. like, aside from letterbox bootlickers and middle school hass students NO ONE has watched this film let alone care about it, it was made in 1957, is shot almost exclusively in one room and the entire film is just middle aged white men yelling at each other over whether some not white poor kid should be sent to the electric chair. what the fuck.
Henry Fonda, the actor, was 52 years old at the time of filming
Henry Fonda is the father of Jane Fonda, the woman who would revolutionise the 80's with her home workouts and her blindingly neon leg warmers.
His name wasn't revealed until the very end of the film and even then it's just "Davis."
I could honestly give him a lil smooch
He's absolutely not girlypop but he's the ally-iest ally who's ever allied
He's categorised as a "Benevolent Leader" on the Heroes Wiki
instead of the overwhelming urge for me to coddle him like most all other blorbos, i would appreciate it switched
I have a photo of him inside my saxophone case and sometimes i forget he's in there, then he creeps into my saxophone bell and when I play it he shoots out like a ballistic missile
Dude, on ao3 there's more fanfiction about the real life 80's British punk band The Clash than the entire film of 12 angry men, let alone Davis (80 fics come up under the clash, while 10 come up for 12 angry men)
I have a counter, and I've watched 12 Angry men a total of 145 times. The figure is up on my wall in tallies. whenever the number goes up, I like to watch it in 5's so then I can put another full group of tallies on my wall.
I have incredibly detailed stories about how Davis would boogie down to ringo starr's solo career, and they're written within the margins of a book called Tobruk written by Peter Fitzsimons. The only reason I reread that book is to wonder at my elaborate works of fiction
My HASS teacher was the one to introduce me to 12 Angry Men as he played it for the entire class. He gave us a set of questions to complete on the film and a few Law based questions as a little treat, and he expected it to be handed in the next day. What he didn't expect was an 11 page monster of a response that included social commentary, 4 paragraphs dissecting the character of Davis alone, deeply discussed comparisons between the landscapes of politics and law in the 50's to the present, and basically an entire point-for-point summarisation of the film, completed with obscure quotes from Truman, Eisenhower, Nixon and Presley (Elvis). He presented the printed masterpiece in front of the entire class to shame me.
After class he explained how his favourite Juror would either be 6 or 5, because 6 seems like a big dumb teddybear and he just liked 5. I explained how I liked Davis because he didn't want to send a kid to die, then he told me how Davis would make a good cowboy (at this point in time I was unaware of Henry Fonda's role in Once Upon A Time in The West) and I proceeded to go home and write a 3 part orchestral composition that I could pretend would play as the soundtrack to Juror 8: A Cowboy's Tale or something like that
I had started to make an animation meme starring Davis but only gave up when photoshop literally deleted itself from my laptop
I didn't even hear that Juror 8's name was Davis when I first watched it in class, somehow I only heard it on my 6th rewatch but when I did I literally got so excited I literally got winded and cried a little bit, I had to take a panadol because I got so lightheaded
I have learned the musical motif that plays throughout the film on saxophone, clarinet, recorder, guitar, bass, ukulele, piano and trumpet
I have visions of him
One of Davis' 3 children HAS to be gay and nothing can convince me otherwise
honest to god I'd be a home wrecker if it came to him
I quote not only Davis but the film a lot, and sometimes in the dead silence of all my friends I go on about how the old man couldn't have possibly made it to the door in such a short amount of time to see the kid running down the stairs (because the old man has a limp, and Davis proved it my limping around the room, which I have to say was incredibly attractive of him)
He's literally an architect
I once had a dream where Davis was in my bass guitar case when I opened it, and i literally just picked him up and started picking him like a bass guitar until I tried to play a full chord and he bit the hand that was meant to be on the fretboard. I dropped him and he fell on his ass, and when I said "what the hell dude what was that for" he said bass chords are lowkey ugly to listen to, and since then i don't like playing bass chords because now they're lowkey ugly to listen to. before this ordeal, i enjoyed them, but alas
i once got my romantic partner to write me a davis x reader fanfiction as a birthday present
my parents believe that Davis is my first celebrity crush, and while they're actually wrong it's still actually so embarrassing they believe that because OH MY GOD it's literally JUROR 8 FROM 12 ANGRY MEN
I've attempted slam poetry about him
I've eaten a paper printed full a4 size photo of his hand
I would also not mind him to be literally my father, but given the rest of the things I've just said about him that's really weird and I recognise that
the Bimodal Distribution
First of all, it's a math concept. that is already pretty bizarre of a thing to be blorbo-ifying. Second of all, I don't know any calculus, and I don't consider myself a math person (because I hate arithmetic), but I really like this guy for some reason. I mean this graph clearly holds the secrets of the universe. don't you just want to l o o k at it . like you could solve everything in the world with that boy

Showing housewardens their counterpart Disney movies
Let’s say that one day, somehow, the housewardens went to your universe instead of you going to theirs (a reverse!au?)
While there you decide to show them Disney films because why not!
I think it’s a given that all of them would be upset about the ending (the Great Seven basically are portrayed as villains) if they knew who the villains of those movies were, but overall some of them might like it!
Riddle
He thinks the vintage animation is pleasing, but can’t stand some of the over-the-top animation
Really likes the song “Golden Afternoon”
Wasn't sure how to feel about the Queen of Hearts overall, but liked the movie
He would want to watch other Disney films and would grow to like films like Fantasia or Bambi
Leona
He might’ve thought he could sleep through this, but he probably got invested -_-
Secretly liked “Be Prepared” along with “Hakuna Matata” but won’t say anything (he lies he didn't care about the film but did)
He isn’t the type to watch children’s films or films he considers for kids, but probably has a soft spot for them
He would end up liking a few movies, but won't tell you them (he probably liked something wholesome like Ratatouille)
Azul
Really liked the music in the movie! Super catchy tunes!
Liked the portrayal of the Sea Witch until she basically got stabbed by a boat he wasn’t prepared for that
He doesn’t watch a lot of movies but will occasionally do, so this was a good one to show him
He’ll branch out to see more films and like Finding Nemo or anything else that’s aquatic
Kalim
He is bringing snacks to watch the movie before you even ask him
He is probably trying to sing along to the songs in the movie, sometimes bringing you to sing with them “A whole new woooooooooooorrrllllddd”
The ending wasn’t bad, and he honestly didn’t even notice the ending because he was talking with you (Jamil saw it was a bit confused however)
Watches a ton more movies afterwards and grows attached to more than half of the movies (really liked 101 Dalmatians and the Beauty and the Beast!)
Vil
He is judging cinematography, voice acting, music choice, etc. the whole time but really liked the animation overall
The ending probably made him upset, but he won’t say much about it. He can’t stand the mining song by the way.
Really liked the scene where the Evil Queen runs down the stairs because her cape just f l o w s
Is a theater kid man of film so watches more and really likes the Hunchback of Notre Dame
Idia
Man, he wasn’t prepared for all the songs and the colors and the jokes and etc. In fact he actually really liked it!
He couldn’t really geek out about anything, but it’s fine! He was able to hang out with you and watch something new!
Also, congrats! You managed to get him out of his room (unless you watched it with him in his room)!
Watches some other films when he’s doing something else and likes Big Hero 6.
Malleus
A movie? How interesting! I wonder if he’s seen films before?
He watches the movie and just goes “...oh” when Maleficent gets killed off, but overall enjoyed the film
He really likes the darker colors they chose for the animation, not to mention the music! Will find himself humming “Once Upon a Dream” later on during the day/night.
Won’t watch a lot more films, but if he does, he will really like the Black Cauldron

'...when it comes to a truly memorable performance over all this time in the MCU, Tom Hiddleston has everyone beat.
Hiddleston scored big with his role as Loki in 2011’s Thor. Since then he’s appeared in six additional films, two animated shorts, and two Disney+ shows, including, of course, Loki, which is in the midst of its second season. Loki the character is alive and well, even if the show’s latest episodes are convoluted. It’s getting increasingly difficult to keep up with Loki’s time travel, timelines, variants, and other complications. In a way, that issue is emblematic of the MCU’s current state. Now in its 15th year, it’s struggling to retain the same level of enthusiasm in a post-Avengers: Endgame world. Loki was a potential bright spot after an engaging, fresh first season in 2021. But now it’s in something of a sophomore slump. Thankfully, the series has two saving graces: stunning visuals and outstanding performances, none of which are more impressive than its lead’s...
Across three Thor and three Avengers movies over 12 years, Loki Laufeyson isn’t the same God of Mischief we were introduced to way back when. Still, Hiddleston ensures, either with a deranged smirk or sly dialogue delivery, that remnants of the original character are still in there. But now, Loki is open to the possibility of redemption because he’s fighting to save the world, not to eliminate it entirely, as was his mission in The Avengers.
Loki has received the kind of nuanced and believable character development that’s rarely seen in the MCU (or any major superhero franchise, for that matter). Hiddleston deploys an impressive physical and emotional range, evolving Loki from a maniacal killer in The Avengers to an anti-hero in Thor: Ragnarok (where he’s aided by a comical partnership with co-star Chris Hemsworth) to a full-fledged sentimental hero in the new episodes of Loki. (Thankfully, his spiky hair and costumes have also made headway, although we do miss the Asgardian horned mask.)...
Hiddleston capitalizes on the space he’s given over two seasons to transform Loki in a way the movies simply don’t allow. In every Thor film, he’s the supporting character. But in the show, Loki’s imprisonment at the Time Variance Authority and his partnership with Mobius (Owen Wilson) accomplish what even Loki’s own brother couldn’t: Revealing that the character does, in fact, have a heart. This becomes more pronounced when Loki falls for another Loki, played by Sophia DiMartino. At least we know narcissism—in some form or another—is imbued in all Loki variants.
The show’s gloss has faded in its second season because, ultimately, Marvel is going to Marvel. Loki has become less of a TV show in and of itself and more of a springboard for the MCU’s next big phase. That’s evident by episode three’s focus on Jonathan Majors’ Victor Timely, who will go on to become Kang the Conqueror, touted as the Big Bad of MCU Phases 5 and 6. But, despite the choppy storytelling, Loki is thriving in its own messy way on Hiddleston’s talented shoulders. And perhaps we should just take that win from the MCU.'

Okay, sooooo I tweaked the rules from my last poll, mainly due to the fact that Cute Animal Sidekicks diminish..... preeeeetty significantly in the 21st century. Oh, there's definitely cute animals, but also cute/funny robots, aliens, magical creatures, etc etc....
But I still did at least keep to these rules:
NO Animal-Only or Animal-Dominated Movies (that means NO Dinosaur, Chicken Little, Zootopia; also Wreck-It Ralph since they're video game characters)
If there are mostly animals, the protagonist MUST BE/BECOME HUMAN (ie, Brother Bear & Princess and the Frog)
Okay, yes, I made Bolt the exception because honestly, that film does not get enough love dbkjsdkfs
Happy voting! ❤

is that DAVID CASTAÑEDA? oh, no, that’s JAVIER ELIO DOMINGUEZ-HERRERA, a THIRTY-TWO year old FREELANCE CINEMATOGRAPHER who uses HE/HIM pronouns. they currently live in SANTA MONEDA in VALPARAÍSO, and the character they identify with most is SPENCER SHAY from iCARLY.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ basics.
full name: javier elio dominguez-herrera .
nickname(s): javi ( preferred ) , elio ( by select few ) .
age: thirty - two .
zodiac: libra .
birthdate: 8th of october , 1991 .
ethnicity: mexican .
gender: cis male .
pronouns: he / him .

language(s) spoken: spanish ( with veracruz dialect ) , english .
character inspirations: edward elric (fullmetal alchemist) , tadashi hamada (big hero 6) , laios touden (dungeon meshi) , sokka (atla) .
aesthetics: candid photos of fond memories , loud guitar riffs , messy bed head and cowlicks , early 2000s emo phases , a collection of old playstation games on display , band posters covering your bedroom wall , loud music coming from a car passing by , the warmth of the sun in the late afternoon , your reflection off of the lens of a camera , worn out converse , shelves lined with old cds .
most replayed song: besitos by pierce the veil .
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ personality.
creative, rambunctious, eccentric, curious, protective. the type to defend his siblings to the end of the earth. wears his heart on his sleeve but acts like he doesn't. incredibly caring towards those he loves, familial or not. shy at first, can even be a bit awkward, but eventually opens up and really lets loose. can be a bit chaotic but means well, truly. nerds the fuck out with film and rock music, but tries to avoid coming off as pretentious (though he doesn't always succeed at that).
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ background.
javier was the sunshine to a newly-wed couple, blessing them on a warm october morning. his mother gave him the middle name elio, derived from the greek word helios, to symbolize the brightness he brought with him in his birth. his parents were both big names in mexico's pop culture: his mother being a renowned pageant queen turned scream queen and his father being an adored tejano musician. his youth was happy and healthy, a spoiled only child for the first nine years of his life.
however, the dynamic of the family eventually took a hit. his parents had been going through a rough patch for months at this point, arguments being heard from the other room (which in turn would make javi turn up the volume on his tv to drown out the noise). he was too young to really understand the severity of the problems, but what he did understand was that he suddenly had two siblings. at first he was confused: his mother never said she was having twins. but when his father's affair was explained to him and another child was brought into the family, javi wasn't sure what to do. he had been excited to become a big brother, and with two babies in the family now, he was even more excited to be a good role model for them. but something was different. call him a mama's boy, but an anger toward his father started spreading in his heart. how could his dad cheat on his mom? how could he do that to the family that loved him so much?
he made it a point to be a caring older brother, playing with luna and esme all the time. he introduced them to video games, letting them sit on the couch while he sat on the floor and played resident evil and silent hill. he'd teach them how to play: luna being a lot more eager than esme, but luna had a bad habit of accidentally deleting or overriding his saves (this would be the cause of most of their fights).
he also introduced the twins to grunge and emo music, showing off his CDs and the seemingly hundreds of band posters lining all four of his bedroom walls. when he was about 16, an impulsive and rambunctious javi decided to start a band with his best friends, showing off the guitar skills he had practiced for the last six years. his band wasn't very big, as most of their "shows" were in someone's garage with family and close friends attending the small crowds. he asked his family to not broadcast his band, being embarrassed (as most 16 year olds can be) of his skill and always preferring to be on the other side of cameras. the band broke up the year after they graduated high school, but javi continued with his love for playing music, learning covers of his favorite songs in his room and having luna and esme sing and perform along with him.
when he was 20, the family packed their bags and moved to new york. his mother claimed it was to protect her children, with luna and esme often being victims of bullying over rumors of their mother being a bruja. javi would get sly comments in school about it, most of which he'd ignore or retaliate with swearing and his middle finger, but was surprised to hear how mean and relentless his siblings' classmates were. he hesitated with leaving his life behind in veracruz, but his need to protect his siblings far overpowered that. he held luna's and esme's hands as they exited the plane at jfk airport, reassuring them that he wasn't going to abandon them anytime soon.
adjusting to life in america had its challenges, but javi eventually started blossoming. he decided to attend university with the intention to major in latin american studies, but after one filmography elective class, everything changed. he switched his major to film, specializing in cinematography, and never looked back. he always knew he liked being behind the camera lens, being the one to take photos or videos of his friends and family, but he never realized just how much he enjoyed it until that chance class. his parents were thrilled to see the spark in his eyes when discussing film, and they immediately pushed for him to get internships in the film industry. they helped him get cameras to study and practice with at home (nothing industrial like on movie sets, but practice is practice). as the years went by, javi was able to obtain more jobs as a cameraman for different movies (thank you nepotism!), cementing a name for himself in the industry.
years later, luna broke the news that they were moving to chile with esme to attend university. their mother spoke to javi privately, asking him to go with them to protect them. he'd heard this before, and didn't hesitate. he grabbed his things, bought a plane ticket, and held luna's and esme's hands as they exited the plane at amb airport.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ headcanons.
when he and/or his siblings get into fights, he resolves the issue by talking it out — with a talking stick that he's used since 2006. takes it very seriously, not allowing anyone to talk unless they're holding said stick. its decorated in stickers luna and esme picked out.
took the twins to their first ever concert in new york to see pierce the veil. ptv is his favorite band, and he's brought his posters of them every time he's moved.
his second-favorite band is system of a down. he almost always picks chop suey if he's at karaoke.
his relationship with his father is significantly better than it was when javi was adolescent, though he still struggles with forgiveness. he knows his father has done everything he can to make amends for his affair, and he has a lot of guilt for still feeling the way he does.
he hyper-analyzes his interactions with people, especially in romantic context, in an effort to not end up like his dad. he also goes out of his way to be a good big brother to luna and esme, due to his desire to be a solid male figure in their lives (he was always worried his dad would cheat again. he never did, but it never soothed the worry in the pit of javi's stomach).
walking into his room feels like being shot back to the early 2000s. he has CD players for his collection, his original playstation and game cube, a stereo which he listens to the radio on, lava lamps on his nightstand, and his walls are always lined with his favorite bands from his youth.
his iq drops when he's around rafa. they grew close once he moved to new york and is a definite enabler for rafa's bad ideas.
loves horror — but what else do you expect from the son of a scream queen? he goes all-out for halloween decorations, focusing on the more scary aesthetics of the holiday. he's been pyramid head from silent hill for halloween for the last three years.
goes out of town every so often to film. it took a minute, but he was able to get his foot in the door in chile's film industry. he enjoys traveling but definitely prefers being home.
big anime guy (his favorites being dbz, one piece, and naruto), and to this day he still collects yu-gi-oh cards, one of his most prized possessions.
collects pocket and butterfly knives, and knows a few flashy tricks. tends to play with them when stressed out to keep his hands busy.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ wanted connections. (more tba!)
the usual! friends, best friends, neighbors, maybe an ex fling or two, other people in the film industry, etc.
subjects for his independent projects. he likes to make short films in his spare time and would appreciate anyone willing to stand in front of the camera.
musicians or other music lovers. despite not being in a band since high school, i'd love to have javi explore his love for music during his free time between filming.

🐱 + Jane!! ^_^
also asked by @onomatopoetic-aesthetic! thank you <3
note; for janejames a lot of the questions will be hypothetical and general to all incarnations
If they're a light or heavy sleeper:
They're a light sleeper. The thing is I don't think they needs to sleep - the only time they're a heavy sleeper is post-regeneration (although their fourth incarnation was awoken during the 'saving gallifrey' sequence lol)
2. What they would do if they won the lottery right now:
They'd give it to charity, of course -- it's kind and nice and the right thing to do!
3. If they have a special item that they couldn't bear to lose:
Depends on the incarnation. Jane V has a necklace that was purchased by her mother during the Women Who Fell To Earth and it's so important to her that her sixth incarnation made sure to give it back to her post bigeneration - bc she got it oops. tbh for all the ones post IV its their sonic sunglasses, with most of them being based on the original model created by their parent!
4. One negative personality trait of theirs:
James I will get into trouble to prove a point, usually dragging others into his mess. Jane II is a bit pretentious, something her third incarnation calls her on. Jane III does not suffer fools gladly, which often means she treats everyone around her as being basically gullible lemmings. James IV gets distracted easily, which means he'll often miss important information. Jane V will often believe she's in the right even when she's not and is quite stubborn when it comes to that sort of thing. idk about Jane VI yet :')
5. Their favorite 70s song:
Massive Bowie fan and has listened to Heroes several times over. In fact I imagine that Jane VI's records are mostly Bowie, Queen and Prince!
6. The color(s) associated with their zodiac:
Janejames is a Sagittarius (November 23rd) and the colour associated with that zodiac is blue!
7. Their favorite comedy movie:
Big fan of the Carry On movies. Their fourth incarnation definitely goes full into 90s/00s American comedy as well as old Buster Keaton films - which is where 90% of his personality comes from :')
8. About one person they've lost:
I'm so tempted to just post the clip from the Giggle where the Toymaker explains the companions who have died since Donna has left but I'm going to write my own - Bill Potts was very much James IV's rock and best friend, he saw her as very much a sibling. When he discovered that he and the Doctor had left her behind for a billion years, he's mortified, and even more so when The Master orders Bill to kill him. It's a very frightening experience, and probably sets the scene for the trauma that Jane V would suffer during her lifetime
9. A quote I associate with them:
Tumblr media
10. If they're a lover or a fighter:
Another depends on the incarnation question -- James I, Jane II & James IV are lovers, while Jane III & Jane V are fighters. Jane VI has made peace with all that, so she's most likely a lover <3

Got some more :D
1: what apps do they like to use? I can see them using twitter & maybe TikTok; probably do silly videos on there.
2: did Nightwing & starfire, plus mar’i tried to hide their superhero identity from Jake? (Probably did the same before mar’i got her powers too.)
3: how would a starburst duo movie start?
4: besides spider-man, do they like other spider-man stuff like the venom movie?
5: do they play battle royale games? I can see them both playing Fortnite (& doing the dances both in & out of costumes) but Chris likes COD Warzone & Jake like apex legends.
6: silly question, since they are pre-teens almost & have girlfriends, what do they prefer: butts or boobs? or personality XD
Sorry for the wait @gothicghost2000 But Here we are XD
1. They have three primary social apps: YouTube (the first one respectively), Twitter and Tumblr. All three apps have specific tools The Duo can use for their particular hobbies and interests, Tumblr for example being the blog space where they can give their predicts and hypotheses about their favorite ongoing shows and where it can go from there.
YouTube is their video library place, for all sorts including live streams, recaps of favorite shows/games, and yes thank to the Shorts function, TikTok style videos. Chris and Jake thankfully have both Jake’s tech expertise and even Oracle on some occasions to help them make sure they don’t get busted for copyright by the algorithms.
2. Not entirely actually. Even as a toddler, Jake was a relatively smart cookie and everyone knew it so before he was able to piece it altogether by the time he was 3 to 4 in his own way, Dick and Kory came clean to him about everything and even Mar’i pitched in about her training to one day be a great superhero like Momma and Daddy are since she has powers while Jake’s are still not kicking in.
I can just imagine little Jakey looking at his family, taking it all in and then finally breaking the silence saying “Does that mean I blast lasers from my eyes too later?” Akin to when Marky found out his powers at the end did the original Invincible comic
3. Basically I’d have first a colorful and detailed title sequence that through simple comic panels and even some motion comic elements, details the basics of how the Duo were born, Chris’ arrival on Earth and adoption by the Kents, the two first meeting as little kids who look up to their parents as their heroes, Jake’s power first kicking in when fending off a bully at school, the Duo training on their powers together and gaining renown slow but steadily, then once the title scene ends, we open with a bang as we are catching up with the Duo in the middle of a massive superhero battle in Metropolis against all sorts of baddies and villains, something akin to the opening shots of Star Wars III: Revenge of the Sith
4. They have a good laugh and thrill at the first and second Venom movies respectively. They also are big time fans of the Spiderverse films; there actually is a strongly passionate debate between Chris and Jake over which Spidey films are better. Chris vouches for the Raimi trilogy while Jake sides firmly with Spiderverse. Other than all that though, both also watch every single Spidey animated series, good or bad, collect what their friends online consider the best runs in both Marvel Prime and the Ultimate Universe (the latter Jake is really into thanks to his Uncle Tim(my) loving Ultimate Spidey) and regularly playing co op on the Playstation games
5. Only once a month really and it’s mainly Fortnite. I can’t really see them playing COD or Apex not just because those two are more FPS centric which even if fictional in universe doesn’t sit that well with them for various reasons, but also for COD especially there egregious money practices from all that miscellaneous DLC, Lootboxes when they are a thing, battle passes, etc. it just doesn’t sit right even if technically Jake can be considered a millionaire’s kid at best
6. Personality. Full stop. Even if they’re aware of the more scandalous and fanservice side of true love, they have the content of a female’s character above physical appearance of any kind. Chris and Jake respect girls and women, plain and simple.

FINAL: Davis (Juror 8) from Twelve Angry Men vs the Bimodal Distribution from statistics

Happy 78th Birthday Scottish actor Paul Young, born 3rd July 1944 in Edinburgh.
Paul started acting at an early age, playing the eponymous hero in the 50's classic Geordie. Young's big break was as one of the presenters of the early 1960s Scottish Television children's programme, Roundup. In this programme he famously interviewed The Beatles. Of his time there he said in an interview
“Well it was the kind of birthplace of my career, in a way. On a Tuesday I would come into the Theatre Royal to do this programme and it was always a thrill to go in, because you didn’t always know who was going to be on it. "Oh, it's Adam Faith, it's Cliff Richard, it's Johnny Mathis, it's Tom Jones. It's — who’s this? — The Beatles? All right, okay”. So it was like the birth, the birthplace, of my career, as a presenter, actor.”
He was also the first voice heard on pirate radio station Radio Scotland when the transmitter was turned on 31st December, 1965 at ten minutes to midnight as 1966 was about to begin, Paul presented the popular Ceilidh programme of traditional Scottish music on the station, which broadcast at various points off the Scottish coast up to August 1967.
Returning to acting later in the decade, Paul has gone on to appear in numerous plays, films and television dramas.
A keen angler, he has presented fishing programmes on Scottish television for many years. The first was Hooked on Scotland for the BBC. This was followed by Hooked on Scottish for ITV and more recently Hooked for the satellite and cable channel Discovery Home and Leisure. Fishing TV, a global video on demand fishing channel, has recently found and digitally remastered more than 120 classic Paul Young episodes and they are now available to view on the Fishing TV service.
Some of his other credits include The Tales of Para Handy, No Job for a Lady, The Crow Road, Rab C Nesbit Coronation Street and of course Taggart, in two different roles and of course the role most us know him from, Still Game.
In the hit Scottish sitcom Paul played Hugh "Shug" McLaughlin, initially appearing occasionally in the early series but by series 5 and 6 becoming a regular cast member. Nicknamed "shug the lug" on the account of Paul Young's trademark ears. He was a communications officer during World War II and is a self-proclaimed expert in radios and soundwaves who often relies on his big ears to hear through walls. Shug is generally the only pensioner that knows about gadgets and new technology in the group.
There was wider fame in 2018 for oor Paul, when Google wrongly said that 80s singer Paul Young was the man who appeared as the Craoglang bat-eared eavesdropper Shug. A twitter user first spotted the mix up and Still Game star and creator Greg Hemphill tater retweeted it adding “Wherever I lay my lugs.”
Now retired, Paul Young lives near Glasgow and enjoys fishing with his grandchildren.

Movie Night Cuddles
Tumblr media
Keigo/Hawks x reader
Both heroes from UA
Synopsis: You were on patrol with your best friend when he invited you over to confess his love for you over cuddles.
Fluff story
1,015 Words
20 minutes late is not a good look on you but luckily your best friend is your boss so not much of a problem. You land straight on the roof from the opposite direction of were keigo is.
“Hey keigo sorry I’m late!” You say running up behind him to meet him on the railing of the roof.
“Thats alright darling lets go before something happens and we miss it” He takes off and you follow behind him spreading you wings.
————————————————————————
30 minutes later.
You land on a rooftop and look around letting out a sigh. “This is such a slow boring day…” Keigo lands beside you sitting on the ledge of the building. “It’s cold too” He says as he ruffles his feathers.
“Hey y/n…I’ve been meaning to ask you something” you look at him surprised to find his eyes skimming the small dots of people below him.
“Ask away…” He looks up to you face slightly pink as a sign whatever he has to say to you he’s nervous about.
“Wanna come over for a movie…kinda like a date…?” He’s blushing even harder now. Your blushing too never expecting that he’d ever wanted to do something like that with you. You’d had your thoughts on a relationship but excepted the fact that he never might like you like that and just want to be friends.
“I’d like that…” you say looking away before looking back up to him to find him smiling. “Really? Okay how about 7:00 then gives you enough time to get changed and come over.” He says excitedly. “Sure bird man” You say laughing slightly.
You look down your attention being pulled away by ambulance a fire trucks heading in the same direction. “Come on lets see whats up” you say standing up and taking off. He follows you too wherever your concern was.
 ————————————————————————
6:00 pm that day
You shuffle into the house sluggish after coming back home from patrol. You then remembered the date hawks had set up and were suddenly up with a burst of energy that you hadn’t known you had. You ran up the stairs to your room to get ready.
You threw on a pair of spandex pants with some fluffy socks and a fluffy hoodie. It was about 6:45 and his house wasn’t to far away. You grabbed your keys, wallet and a bag of your favorite chips before heading out. You didn’t own a car since you quirk was so convenient. About 5 minutes later you were in front of his door terrified to ring the doorbell. As soon as you’d finally mustered up the courage, he opened the door only to find your heated face staring at his ripped abs.
“Hey y/n- oh um I can cover up sorry” He says stepping aside to let you in.
“N-no It’s alright” you look down and he guides you into the house. You walk in looking up and finding his house quite comfortable. You were cold so you hurriedly walked over and found a nice warm place on the couch.
“Well you look comfy” he says walking over to sit on the couch beside. In his hands two cups and a big bowl for the chips you’d brought. He placed them on the table before taking the bag and pouring some into it. He then handed you the cup and sat down beside you.
“So what movie are we watching?” You ask looking at him again
“How about a horror film?” He says grabbing the remote beside him.
“Sure…” You say watching as he picks a movie you haven’t seen. You get comfortable beside him sipping on the juice he gave you.
A couple minutes into the movie and a scary scene comes onto the screen. Terrified you jump and cuddle into his chest until the scene finally passes. You only stop to realize your position when Keigo finally says something to you.
“It’s alright now” He says looking down and caressing the top of your head. You pull away and close your eyes face a shade of hot pink.
“S-sorry! I didn’t mean to-“ He cuts you off pulling you back this time into his lap.
“S’alright darling just lay down…” Your hesitant but when he starts to caress your head you give in and cuddle your small body into his lap. Throughout the movie Keigo stops to comfort you and assure you everything’s alright when certain scenes come up in the movie.
“It’s over…?” You say looking up at him from your spot in his chest. When you look he’s smiling down at you. You smile back before gently lifting up from your spot in his lap.
“Hey can I tell you something…?” He says looking away as his cheeks begin to glow a light pink.
“Whats on your mind?” Now kneeling in his lap
“Y-y/n…I’ve liked you for a while and…I want to know If you feel the same way about me…” he looks up at you worry in his eyes. You couldn’t believe what you just heard. Hawks the No. 2 hero likes… you? You looked at him astonished at his words.
“I-I like you too…” you say meeting his gaze with a light pink covering your cheeks.
“Will you be my girlfriend then y/n?” He says picking up your hands and holding them in his own.
“Yes!” You hug him tightly before pulling away only to pull him into a kiss. The gesture surprises him but he pulls you in anyway indulging in the moment the two of you are sharing. He pulls away from you to pull you into his chest and cuddle you.
“Wanna watch another movie?” He asks you only to get your movements as a response. He looks down at you small body curling up in his lap.
“Okay we can sleep instead then…” Keigo then grabs a blanket from the couch to cover you with before repositioning himself to accustom your sleeping form to comfortably lay on his chest.
“Goodnight baby bird…” He says starting to dose off into his own dreams.

Posting this poll a bit early so I have something to watch this weekend! On this weeks poll, I’ve filled it with infamous adaptations of shows and books to the big screen! No Stephen King, though; that’s a poll all of its own (as you might recall, it was the last IIRTB poll, and will probably be another in the future).
1. One of Disney’s biggest bombs, their second shot at adapting an Edgar Rice Burroughs novel didn’t work out so well. Dropping the “of Mars” from the title was probably not the best idea.
2. Rebooting a TV western is a bad enough idea on its own, but casting America’s Most Beloved Domestic Abuser Johnny Depp as a Native American? Yeah it’s no shock this was a huge bomb.
3. Speaking of Western shows, behold! The wild wild Will Smith bomb that features cowboys, Kenneth Branagh, and a giant robot spider (too bad Superman isn’t here to fight it)!
4. America’s Most Beloved Domestic Abuser Johnny Depp is here again with the movie that really made people sick of his acting style, as well as the start of Tim Burton fatigue.
5. An adaptation of a fantasy novel where the screenwriter didn’t bother reading the book after a few pages and the director hates fantasy, a winning combo that led to the second weakest debut for any movie ever—at least until Jem and the Holograms.
6. A psychedelic trip of a movie that no one who worked on it seems to like. This one looks to be absolutely WILD.
7. Buddy cop rom-com set at an S&M resort and featuring Dan Aykroyd and Rosie O’Donell, based on the Anne Rice novel. If that description doesn’t sell you on this, nothing will.
8. One of the most infamous films ever made, all about the hell Joan Crawford put her kids through.
9. Apparently not every comic adaptation Seth Rogen touches turns to gold, as this comedy based on a hero who has been in just about every medium can attest.
10. You’d think the best person to play a robot man would be human plank of wood Matthew Broderick, but this film derailing his career says otherwise.

WISH Worrying
Tumblr media
I'm seeing some folks wondering where the "marketing" is for WISH, the new Walt Disney Animation Studios film...
A movie that opens Thanksgiving week, quite a few months out from now...
I predict the trailer for this picture, a Chris Buck and Fawn Veerasunthorn-directed animated film that celebrates Disney's 100th anniversary, will debut in June. If we're lucky, we hear a little something during Disney's presentation at CinemaCon tomorrow.
Anyways, June... But that's so late, you may say?
Let's go back to 2010... TANGLED.
The teaser for that movie debuted in mid-June of 2010, in time for the release of Pixar's hotly-anticipated TOY STORY 3. Then it got a proper trailer in the early autumn. TANGLED opened pretty well and had excellent legs, and was quite popular at the worldwide box office. Hey, $590m+ is nothing to scoff at!
The same strategy was applied to 2012's WRECK-IT RALPH. That movie made over $470m worldwide.
2013. Did it again. With FROZEN... Do I even need to say more?
They also did the same for BIG HERO 6 in 2014, and MOANA in 2016.
They made an exception for both RALPH BREAKS THE INTERNET and FROZEN II, though. Both November releases in their respective years, the teasers for those popped up around February.
Then WDAS circled back to that strategy for ENCANTO. They probably would've done it for RAYA AND THE LAST DRAGON, if it had remained a Thanksgiving 2020 release as originally planned. Before COVID-19 and other complications with Disney's schedule resulted in it being pushed back to March of 2021. STRANGE WORLD did the same thing, first look in June, movie released in November.
Difference is... TANGLED, WRECK-IT RALPH, FROZEN, BIG HERO 6, and MOANA, by various metrics, performed well at the box office.
ENCANTO dealt with the Delta and - later - Omicron variants of COVID-19, while families - tight on money - saved their dollars for something like SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME or even something like GHOSTBUSTERS: AFTERLIFE. ENCANTO hit its stride after it came to Disney+, after making a so-so $96m at the domestic box office and little more than $200m worldwide (not great against a $120m+ budget).
STRANGE WORLD altogether failed, right out of the gate and couldn't really leg it up. Went quickly to Disney+ within weeks of release. Far past the Omicron variant and with many families back in the theaters, as evidenced by how amazingly MINIONS Deux did and how PUSS IN BOOTS Dos *really* legged it up, what happened with STRANGE WORLD?
People often say "it had no marketing!"
But it did... Two trailers, quite a few ads, TV spots, some merch, the usual. The problem was, none of that stuff got audiences interested in seeing it. Thus it opened badly, and audiences didn't like it much either, hence the poor CinemaScore grade and subsequently bad legs. (It had to be the homophobia, because the movie - while rushed in my opinion - is really no different from most other animated movies out there. It's not like it was some weirdo niche esoteric movie that was audience-unfriendly. Plus, for whatever reason, most sci-fi animation like this has a hard time connecting.)
WISH looks to be what the public usually associates with a Disney animated feature: A princess, cute animals, songs, apparently a traditional villain who is evil and scary, magical stuff all around. It's about where wishing stars come from, for chrissakes. Apparently it's going to be loaded to the brim with Easter eggs and references to classic Disney animated movies, too. I don't know, I hear conflicting reports from within the trenches on this one. Disney's positioning it as some major origin story for several of the iconic Disney animated movies (when the "wishing star" only really appeared in PINOCCHIO and THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG some 69 years apart from another, and I guess you could count 'Faith is a Bluebird' from THE RESCUERS), but other things tell me that this is not at all the case, and that it's just going to have some fun stuff for us nerds to keep our eyes peeled for.
Anyways, WISH seems like an easy-enough sell. That Disney can easily marathon run from June to November, like they did with TANGLED and FROZEN and MOANA and such.
The real hurdle is always the challenge of... Making audiences like what they see. That's actually easier said than done, and if I have to pull that William Goldman quote out again, I shall!
Whatever was in those trailers for STRANGE WORLD just didn't do it. And with families and audiences choosier than ever before, given how goddamn expensive movie trips are, and other stuff vying for their attention... WISH's teaser, trailer, TV spots, et al. will have to work hard to get their eyeballs. Getting the marketing started earlier doesn't mean anything. If it did, THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG would've been a bona fide blockbuster and there'd be at least one sequel to it and several new hand-drawn Disney animated movies. The teaser for that movie debuted in summer 2008, about a year and a half before its December 2009 release... But the movie opened with a meager $24m, and had to rely on strong word-of-mouth to eke it past $100m domestically... With AVATAR and the ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS sequel playing next door, no less.
Again, if WISH "looks good" to audiences, then it'll open fine and leg itself up over the holidays quite nicely. I can see it opening with at least $40m over the 3-day, should audiences not determine that all their hard-earned money goes to something like THE MARVELS, or WONKA, or that HUNGER GAMES prequel, or TROLLS BAND TOGETHER even.
We gotta see how Pixar's ELEMENTAL, their first full-blown theatrical release original movie since COCO... Yes, COCO, way back in 2017... ONWARD doesn't count, it literally opened the week before everything shut down. It only lasted two weeks in theaters, and then went straight to On Demand and Disney+ right after. We gotta see how ELEMENTAL does, first. That's the one to look out for.
Disney arguably baked a lot of folks' brains, sort of training them to say "I'll just wait till it comes to Disney+." I think we're even starting to see that with the once-foolproof Marvel movies, too. Again, trips to the theaters - especially for a family - are expensive, and it's a gamble each time our. Your experience could totally suck, and it might not even be worth the hassle. But ooooh, in a few months, there it is! In our living room, on our pretty high quality HDTV! $100+ saved!
It's gotta have a real hook now, a real "you gotta see this in a THEATER" hook. Like TOP GUN: MAVERICK had last year, like AVATAR: THE WAY OF WATER had. I hear-tell that returning CEO Bob Iger is trying to restore that to Disney after the previous CEO's aggressive pivot to streaming. I don't doubt that WISH is a priority now, given that WDAS movies used to make bank before COVID-19. Sometimes more so than even the Marvel and Star Wars movies. Ditto the Pixar films. COCO was Pixar's last original box office biggie, and that made over $810m worldwide. A couple of their latest sequels, like INCREDIBLES 2 and TOY STORY 4, easily crossed the big billion worldwide. WDAS' last original blockbuster was MOANA, which made over $680m, while sequel FROZEN II is the second highest-grossing animated movie for the time being.
So, it would be silly of the rearranged structure of Disney's entertainment division to disregard ELEMENTAL (which is screening at Cannes, that's a *big* deal!) and WISH. They both look very "just as you like 'em" kinda movies, in that ELEMENTAL is yet another exercise in the "what if [insert x thing here] was a big city/factory/world with feelings?" template that is often associated with Pixar, and in that WISH is all the stuff general audiences tend to associate with Disney Animation. Maybe not the most exciting things to some of us, but if they have win back paying moviegoers with these old chestnuts, so be it.
Anyways, I hope both do very, very well. If ELEMENTAL does pretty good, we might have an idea of what kind of numbers Disney-released animated movies are capable of scoring in a post-Disney+, post-outbreak world.

March 6, 2024
By Chris Willman
(Variety) — Harrison Ford can’t escape the two-and-a-half-minute fanfare that John Williams composed for his most famous cinematic hero, Indiana Jones. “As I often remind John, his music follows me everywhere I go — literally,” Ford says. “When I had my last colonoscopy, they were playing it on the operating room speakers.”
Creating those big, bold, brassy musical moments has become Williams’ trademark over his seven-decade career. Without his symphonic genius, some of the most indelible images in movie history — from E.T.’s flight across the moon to the ravenous shark zeroing in on an unsuspecting swimmer — would have lacked their singular power.
This year, Williams is resetting the record books again with his Academy Award nomination for best original score for “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.” It’s his 54th nomination, which is the most ever for someone not named Walt Disney, and thus the biggest tally for any living person — and any nonproducer, period.
“People ask about a legacy,” Williams says as he sits in the Amblin screening room on the Universal lot, adjacent to his bungalow office. “If I could be remembered as someone who did his job well and remembered as a good solid musician, I would rest very happily.”
... Over the decades, he was aware of how the great film composers before him had a reputation for being cranky at best or tortured at worst. “Alex North, David Raksin, Jerry Goldsmith and others — brilliant, beautiful talents. All unhappy.” Most had barely suppressed ambitions to write concert music or symphonies instead of scoring movies. They believed that they were, in a sense, slumming it and laboring for directors who they described as “imperious and obstructive.”
“I thought, ‘Well, that’s not a complaint that I want to have to live with.’ So I went about it not to try to compete with Igor Stravinsky or the great classical composers, but to learn from the process of doing — the best school of all.”
Williams also notes that times have changed. Today, orchestras are happy to play film music. “If you went to the New York Philharmonic 40 years ago, they would be condescending about playing anything from Hollywood,” he says. “So I’m lucky that I’m living in a different period.”
Maybe luck has something to do with it, but there’s a case to be made that Williams created the era in which concert treatments of film music and live-to-screen presentations are beloved hallmarks of symphony seasons. He did that by writing themes the whole world wants to hear. He also did it by being a friendly ambassador for orchestras, fronting the Boston Pops or the L.A. Phil. Those who know Williams well say the audiences who have greeted him as America’s Composer are not mistaken in their impressions of him as a genial genius.

Imo, perhaps the most underreported part of John Williams' legacy? Helping classic film scores that he and his predecessors composed earn their place in the classical music canon (it helps immensely that Williams commands the deepest respect from professional musicians, soloists and rank-and-file orchestra members alike, around the world).
