this scene means so much to me. inej apologizing, knowing how kaz feels about physical contact, the second kaz spends enjoying her touch, not riddled by trauma and pain. the way the reality hits him and he jerks away - freddy is phenomenal, the way he tells a story with just his eyes in this scene! amita is outstanding at portraying inej with gentleness and so much care and respect when it comes it kaz <3

In season 2 ep 6, when Wylan sees the butterflies, he says "I can't believe that I get to see that in my lifetime." He then gets sad and says :"And there is noone to bear witness", and with a glance to the door behind which is jesper, he adds "Like he'd care."

And I don't think we talk about this enough. Wylan, who grew up surrounded by people (mostly his father) that didn't care for his interests, is so sure that Jesper, who he has absolutely fallen for, will not care as well. Jesper might bed him, but especially after their fight Wylan is so sure that Jesper would never care for his interests.

And then.

After they got the blade.

He rambles about the flowers and butterflies to Jesper, and Jesper actually LISTENS, and tried to show genuine interest - cue "I want to stand with you in front of all the detura ox things to come."

And Wylan, who has never had anyone care about him, his interests, who could never share his ramblings with anyone, can't help but kiss him for that.

I love this parallel so much. Wylan directly voicing that he thinks jesper would not care, and then later jesper caring for exactly that, just because wylan loves it, and he loves wylan.

The writers really knew what they were doing there.

about the without armour scene, i loved the symbolism of them being in the church as much as the next person, but can we talk about the fact that kaz and inej are facing each other, looking into each other's eyes as inej speaks the words? i loved this, that they changed it from "maybe it was because his back was to her that she could finally speak the words". and also the little bit of hope you see in kaz's expression when inej says "i will have you" and stops for a second before continuing? freddy and amita ruined me.

Sometimes you don’t NEED skin on skin

Just to really bring the point home for those who have not read the Six of Crows duology and think that Inej deserves to “have some fun before she finds her way back to her true love”, or who perhaps think that a love triangle/jealousy drama would somehow spur Kaz into action (do you even know Kaz Brekker?):

For someone connected to the production to caption a photo of the actors with the (crack) ship name of their characters (“Tonej”) and talk about “skin on skin” might seem innocent (”it’s just an Insta post”), but let’s look at the context for those who are upset by this – some of whom have suffered similar traumas and find comfort/inspiration in Inej’s character.

Here is a sample of Inej’s previous experience of skin on skin:

There were young men, old men, handsome men, ugly men. There was the man who cried and struck her when he could not perform. The man who wanted her to pretend it was their wedding night and tell him that she loved him. The man with sharp teeth like a kitten who had bitten at her breasts until she’d bled. And these are the men she remembers; mostly she forced herself to go numb, while making all the right noises and moves so Tante Heleen would not abuse her further.

Because she loves Kaz, she tells him she is willing to work on that trauma IF HE WORKS ON HIS. This does not mean that she is itching for skin on skin action there and then, it means she wants to be ready for it if they are to have a future together. 

What if he had come to her, laid his gloves aside, drawn her to him, kissed her mouth? Would she have pulled him closer? Kissed him back? Could she have been herself in such a moment or would she have broken apart and vanished, a doll in his arms, a girl who could never quite be whole? Crooked Kingdom, p. 275 Kindle version

This is her mindset as she boards that ship in S2E8. She does not need a man who is basically a stranger to be her ticket out of trauma – not even a lovely one like Tolya (who in turn does not need or want romance in his life to be fulfilled). She needs healing, a purpose and – as a character – not to be reduced to half a ship in a fling which would be nothing but a waste of precious screentime.

A moment of appreciation for Freddy Carter's acting, please.

This man conveyed every one of Kaz's unspoken thoughts in his expressions. I could almost hear what he was thinking in the church scene. His face just screamed YOU! I WANT YOU! when he looked at Inej and then you can see him swallow the thought and look away so he could sprout some bs about his weight in gold

And don't even start with the scene when he sees her after the battle. Holy shit this man, you can see the guilt and regret in his eyes
