I woke up to a lovely ask in my inbox this morning, so head's up that fucking JOS (that notorious Nazi Front organization) asks are going around again already.

In case you need another reminder, and / or you’re new or unfamiliar with Paganism --- or, at least, are new to the constant battle we fight on this site against repeating waves of JOS bot asks; especially in relation to Paganism's (perfectly valid) Satanist cousin faiths: J*y Of S*t*n is a Nazi Front Organization that masquerades as a Satanist religion and Church.

It is not Pagan, nor is it Satanist. It is a Nazi group that was founded by the wife of the American NSM cofounder (who was later forced to resign as the NSM’s Chairman because of his ties to JOS), and is well known to co-opt the language and imagery of Satanism and Western Esotericism in order to act as an esoteric funnel for the group, and for Neo-Nazism as a whole.

This is not up for debate. This has been a well known and well established fact for a long time now.

Remember: Only ever Block, report, and delete these asks if you receive them, and any accounts you find associated with them.

Never respond. Never debate (especially not to "defend" your religion or "correct" them). Never publish just because "oh they seem innocuous enough, I don't see what the big deal is". Never publish even just to laugh at their stupidity ... Only ever delete, block, and report any asks you receive, and any accounts you find associated with them. Period.

No matter how well meaning you are about it, publishing asks about JOS only ever gives these Nazis more visibility- and that is exactly what these waves of asks are intended to do every single time they send them out to us ... Do not encourage them. They are Neo-Nazis. Do not give them a platform. Do not play their game. That is exactly what they want you to do.

Not a huge fan of those who're reblogging it with TW tags. Don't do that. It ultimately defeats the purpose of a literal warning post.

Other names:

Samhuin, Samain, Saman, Oidhche Shamhna, Hallowe'en, Halloween, Hallows, Hallowtide, Shadow Fest, Allantide, Third Harvest, Harvest Home, Geimredh, (Feile na Marbh), Feast of the Dead, Spirit Night, Candle Night, November Eve, and Apple Fest.

What is it?

Samhain is an old Celtic festival marking the end of the harvest season and beginning of winter (the "darker half" of the year)

What it represents

Samhain is a time when doorways to the spirit world are opened, allowing the dead to visit the living world. Some spirits were considered friendly, while others were not, and the Celts created ways to appease them.

It also marks the end of the Celtic year and the beginning of the new one and as such can be seen as an equivalent of New Year's Eve as we know it.

When is it celebrated

It is held on 1 November but with celebrations beginning on the evening of 31 October, since the Celtic day began and ended at sunset

Who to honour

Traditionally because this festival is associated with those who no longer walk this realm in a physical form, ancestors, family members, elders of the faith, friends, pets and other loved ones who have passed on are appropriate beings to honour.

Other sprits to worship

In the case you want to explore other spirits to worship, any death deity would be appropriate for example, you may feel compelled to leave out an offering to Hades at this time of the year. You can also worship the earth itself, as we approach this time of the year many plants begin the end of their yearly cycle, this is the perfect time to take a moment to appreciate the beauty in that part of the cycle.

How to celebrate

There are many things to do to honour ancestors and not just the human ancestors but the earth ones and the animals as well, this may manifest in many ways.

Some popular ways to celebrate this festival are

dancing,

feasting,

taking nature walks,

Ancestor Stories,

cemetery visits,

Bonfire Magic.

and building altars to honour the ancestors

Sigils in presents

Wrapping Christmas presents? Draw sigils inside the wrapping paper to manifest something for that person (health, finances, friendship longevity, etc.) or something for the gift (happiness, self-acceptance, etc.)

Getting someone a stuffed animal? Write them a sigil for sweet dreams. Got someone a Bath and Body Works gift set? Write them a sigil for self-love. Swiss army knife? Protection! Friendship bracelets? Faithful and trusting relationships.

There are lots of sigils you can make for them, get creative!
