55. Castlevania III Soundtrack Mondo Cover Inspiration
Another art, another inspiration, same story. Came across the cover for a vinyl release of the original soundtrack of Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse (the last example), manufactured by Mondo, art by Sachin Teng, fell in love with the visual, and naturally wanted to make something like this.
That wonderful skull/brain/distortion thing from the cover simply wasn't feasible for me, so I stuck with coming up with characters first, and then adding some death stuff like that skull destroying and have its pieces flying everywhere, anything in the spirit of original inspiration. Think it's one my interesting pieces, especially from that year. Sure, it's a far cry from the stunning illustration by Sachin Teng, and it's nowhere near the great territory, I still find some major flaws in characters in terms of anatomy and perspective, and how dare I even compare my crap to the work of a professional artist. I admire the scale, this new take, although insufficient, character design, but most of all, the color palette. Haven't done anything like that, and I'm quite content with this.
Like how they're rendered here.

A style study featuring my D&D character, Dust. I’m definitely not alone in my admiration of Sachin Teng’s artwork and I set myself the task of studying her beautiful colouring style, applying it to my lines and seeing where it led. It was a real challenge and I learned a lot!
