I moved like a month ago and so far have not seen a single cat outside and on one hand I am extremely glad because it means cat owners in my neighbourhood are being responsible but on the other hand. Where are they I wanna pet them

#the neighbourhood I was living in had sooo many outdoors cats #and also so many missing cat posters :(#at least I haven't seen any of those either so the cats are safe

I’ve started to notice in debates about outdoor cats that a lot of people genuinely don’t think any of the issues or risk apply to them simply because their cats aren’t exclusively outdoors, so I’ve started trying to change my language to specify “unsupervised outdoor time”, which I feel also helps people understand that “indoor cat” can mean that they have supervised outdoor time and aren’t actually “trapped” inside their entire lives.

#outdoor cats #some people are also just willfully ignorant #but some really do need the clarification #and then they’re like ‘oh yeah so I have an indoor cat actually’#or ‘oh I thought it was safe but maybe I need to rethink’

These two flew in to my window, the further one is finally up and hopping around again, the closer one is still getting their bearings but starting to look around a lot more alert so hopefully they’ll be bouncing around within the hour otherwise we got a vet trip to make

fascinating all the different dynamics n types of bonds rnm shows u exclusively just between rick n morty like i was thinking how its swt up as if its just estranged grandpa grandson when its really rick having to actually care abt this random kid he has no personal connection with until morty IS his grandson n he IS his grandpa. not that it justifies how rick treated morty up until he got over himself but then u have ricks who didnt have to step over that hurdle who were treating mortys that way. ricks presumably who had mortys from the start who were nice about it. the morty market. whatever the dynamics with evil morty n evil rick were. its endless.

whenever people say "I let my cat(s) go outside because I feel like I'm restricting their freedom by keeping them in the house" I love saying

"Yeah that's kinda how I feel about having a 4 year old. I don't want to take away his freedom to explore nature. He's smart enough to stay away from cars, so I let him out every now and then. He knows how to find his way back home so he's fine!"

because really.... it's not that much different. In fact, I think a four year old child would be less likely to get hit by a car than a cat.

Your cat isn't "too smart" to avoid animal traps, cars, abusive people, poison traps, other animals, etc. If your outdoor cat goes missing? It's either because:

someone assumed your cat was lost and either A) took your cat to a shelter or B) adopted the cat as their own.

they're fucking dead. you let them roam around places where giant, fast, animal-flattening vehicles regularly pass through. And if you live away from the city, where there aren't as many roads, then your cat was snatched up by coyotes or other wildlife. I've been there.

If it's not those two, and the cat is simply just choosing not to come back, it's because you fucking suck as a cat owner and they don't want you.

Getting your cat vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed/neutered isn't done to make it "safe" for them to go outside. It's done as a preventative measure in case your cat accidentally gets outside.

And if you're letting your cat outdoors with no vaccinations and the ability to reproduce, you are causing problems for EVERYONE because now your cat is having babies with other stray cats that will be running around spreading diseases and having more and more babies that will do the same. And most of those cats will more than likely have to be put down. So don't be that person.

Keep your cats indoors.

Her comfort zone is always growing, despite us passing some dogs and/or people occasionally, and when she feels like she "owns" the area you can note her tail. It's something she always does when we come back inside for a walk, the tail whips back and forth high up like "im the fuckin queen here". Just before going around the corner, I asked my bf "she's jogging so nice, do you think she'll whip her tail when we go around?" and she did 😍
