The internet is a gross place sometimes so I'm not posting pics to prove it, but y'all are just gonna have to believe me when I say that my 4 year old is proportioned like Goth Anime Legs Uncle and it's both hilarious and deeply frustrating.

Frustrating because nothing that fits her in the waist will come down to her ankles and it refuses to not be winter outside. But dresses don't work because any of them that fit decently enough in the body will only come down to mid-thigh and again, eternal winter. Not that summer will be better because the child lost the genetic lottery and is as pale as mass-produced mayonnaise but also allergic to most sunscreen, so it's not like we can just slather her up five times a day when summer comes. We need to cover that sunburn-and-cancer-prone skin. But all the dresses that come down to her knees are, no joke, the sizes for 10-13 year olds and hang off her like a chihuahua trying to wear a human sized t shirt. Girl is just 70% leg.

Which is where the hilarity comes in because anytime she does anything remotely 4-year-old-like, it just looks like an adolescent giraffe doing the Charleston. Big long bony legs everywhere. She bends at the waist and can't touch the floor with her fingertips until she's nearly folded in half like an olympic high diver. She's just Mostly Legs and it looks so goofy on a child whose cheeks still jiggle when she runs.

I did not write this (well, except for that handwritten note at the top). It’s from State by State with The State, a travel guide that was written by the cast of The State (you know, the way too short-lived sketch comedy show that was on MTV in the 90s). But I just always thought it was so hilariously spot on that I had to put it in my zine.

punk rockers and you (by The State)

no trip to any big city is complete without paying a visit to the bleak, jaded children of its suburbs - the “punk rockers.” you’ll find them hanging around any dimly lit place that sells cigarettes, and once they get to know you, they will hang out with you forever - at least until something to do comes along that’s not bullshit.

despite their vibrant plumage, most punk rockers are timid, very very angry creatures, and when approaching them you should remember a few simple DOs and DON’Ts:

DO: fall on your face and pretend you’re out cold for a few minutes, then spring up and yell, “fuck off!!” before you approach them. this will put them at ease.

DON’T: say “hello” right away. stand among them silently, looking around nervously for a few minutes first. this will further convince them you’re one of their own.

DO: bring budweiser.

DON’T: wear your new budweiser t-shirt (unless you’re clearly wearing it ironically).

DON’T: give one shit about what people think of your looks.

DO: use manic panic hair dye (available in all cities that aren’t total bullshit) and spike it. (mix egg whites, sugar, and a little shaving cream in a bowl for ten minutes. brush onto damp hair and hold in the desired position until the mixture dries. sometimes it doesn’t work and you have to start over from scratch.)

DON’T: thank your parents for the $1,000 birthday present they gave you.

DO: cry genuine tears of joy when your best friend gives you a car part that he stole and painted blue. keep it forever.

DON’T: get caught brushing.

DO: assume that any punk rock that you don’t know is bullshit.
