I thought that other ask you got was phrased sort of weirdly when they said “American and SAG” and so I’d like to clarify: you don’t have to be American to be part of SAG, or WGA for that matter. You just have to have worked on American productions. For example, the SDCC panel for Good Omens S2 is effectively cancelled because not only is Neil Gaiman a WGA member, but David Tennant, Michael Sheen, and Miranda Richardson (and Jon Hamm but that seems obvious) are SAG members and they are therefore not allowed to promote the show. Good Omens S2 was filmed entirely in Scotland with (mostly) British actors, but it is still very much affected.
Obviously, an actor who has never worked in the US before will not be on strike. But plenty of British actors come over here to work on American shows, and are part of SAG, and are therefore on strike. It won’t impact the BBC as much as it will American companies, but I would be very surprised if it was completely without impact. I think the best way to know if it’s going to impact your fave British show is to look up whether any of the actors have been in American shows before, including anything on streaming services. (e.g., Shadow and Bone is filmed in Budapest but it’s still technically an American production because it’s Netflix, and that’s why the writers of the show are picketing.)
Oof, this got long, sorry about that! Just wanted to give more information as I’ve been following the strikes closely as someone with a lot of interest in the industry!

For those of us who still have attention spans and are not satisfied with gifs - I highly recommend watching this interview. Super wonderful deep dive with Pedro, and it was just great to see him answer thoughtful yet fun questions and not hear the regurgitated shit aka being asked about being the internet's Daddy he's had to endure the last year. And while some of the stories aren't totally first-time recounts, him being able to tell them without being crunched for time or getting censored was just fantastic, so yeah - watch it!

“After meaningful conversations, it is clear that the gap between the AMPTP and SAG-AFTRA is too great, and conversations are no longer moving us in a productive direction,” the AMPTP wrote in a press release on Wednesday night. Meanwhile, SAG is calling out Hollywood CEOs—including Netflix’s Ted Sarandos, Disney’s Bob Iger, NBCUniversal’s Donna Langley, and Warner Bros. Discovery’s David Zaslav, who are all present during the talks—for low-balling and using “bullying tactics.” “It is with profound disappointment that we report the industry CEOs have walked away from the bargaining table after refusing to counter the latest offer,” SAG’s TV/Theatrical Negotiating Committee announced on X on Thursday. “We have negotiated with them in good faith, despite the fact that last week, they presented an offer that was, shockingly, worth less than they proposed before the strike began.”
SAG-AFTRA Strike Looks Bleaker Than Ever as Talks Break Down
Oh, look, the same reprehensible billionaires are using the same failed tactics with SAG-AFTRA that they tried with WGA.
Fuck you, David Zaslav, Bob Iger, and your fellow scumbags. You’re nothing without the creative workers who are the heart of the entertainment industry. All we are asking for is reasonable protections so we can earn a living and qualify for health insurance. You want another helipad on your yacht.
As long as it takes. One day longer, one day stronger.
