Anbu squad

ANBU ninjas are the elite squad of Konoha ninjas. They are the most skilled ninjas, they carry out the most dangerous missions, masters in murder, torture, illusion and stealth. The best jounins, the elite ninjas, are handpicked to be part of this association.

That's why when your boyfriend is surprised that you sweet and adorable "______" was part of the Anbu squad.

Naruto / Sasuke / Sai / Shikamaru / Madara

Naruto

He is very shocked, he always saw you as the sweetest and purest being on this earth, now he understands his exchange of looks with Sai, he was the leader of the squad you were part of.

For Sasuke you were a civilian living beautifully for Konoha.

-So it was just a scene that you can't open pots? - he asks looking at you.

-Yes, I saw that you liked that I was all fragile and needed your help always.- you shrug and reach out with a pot.- Open it for me baby?

Sasuke snorts opening the pot while you smile sweetly.

Sai

He's totally absurd with the news, he's part of Anbu and he didn't know that his girlfriend is in the anbus squad, he really sees how you are the best, he only found out that you are from anbu because you led a mission and you called him "baby" on purpose. He was all out of focus afterwards.

Are you the sight of everything that is sweet and adorable for Sai, as you are from the anbu? He knows what the missions are like and you're in the most dangerous squad inside the anbu.

-You've been looking at me without blinking for a long time.- you say taking the attention out of the book and looking at your boyfriend.

-I still can't absorb that you're from Anbu and I didn't know.

-Get over Sai, it's been two months since you already know.

Shikamaru

He kind of suspected, you're not a civilian and he saw you go on missions that weren't on the hokage agenda, so he is not surprised when you say you are part of the anbu squad.

-I already suspected.- he says closing his eyes lying on the grass.

- Aren't you upset?

-No, in reality I think it's very hot, now come and take a nap.

Madara

He feels betrayed, you are his wife, how did you hide this important fact for him? Madara sees you as a goddess almost an angel who does not kill ants and still cries if you accidentally step on the dog's paw. You are the most delicate being he knows.

How can you be from anbu? How did you not tell him before?

Now you need to put up with Uchiha's tantrum, he will pass you by ignoring you, turning your face away when you laugh. He's just a big baby who doesn't believe his angel is an angel of death.

maybe sometimes Gai figures who the anbu following him is when he's in an important mission that requires an anbu to accompany him. and maybe he knows the anbu is somewhere around while he makes himself a warm meal, knowing the anbu is only allowed to eat ration bars until the mission is over. and maybe before he rests for the night Gai leaves a warm bowl of food next to where he felt the anbu's presence moments before, and he doesn't say anything about it and just sleeps for the night. and maybe the bowl is empty the next morning but there's still no sign of the anbu who ate it. and maybe when the mission is over Gai goes home and finds a small box with dangos on his windowsill with a little henohenomoheji scribbled on the side, barely noticeable for anyone who wasn't looking, and nothing else, but he knows it is a thank you that he will never get out loud. and he doesn't care that it's not voiced to him, because he's just happy he offered kakashi some comfort during their mission together, despite not being able to be by his side the whole time.

ㅤMidnight on the dot. Yet another thing Itachi greatly appreciated about his friend: Tenzou's unblemished punctuality which certainly he did not learn from their captain. The soft knocking on the bedroom window came and Itachi silently scurried out from under the covers, sparing a few seconds just to make sure Sasuke was sleeping soundly and properly tucked in, before slipping outside to go join the older boy on the roof. Typical ANBU hangout, as they would sometimes joke.

ㅤEspecially given the late hour, but certain matters were best spoken while the rest of the village slept. For once, this was about to be a good surprise or, at least, so Itachi hoped. Sitting cross-legged by Tenzou's side, he opted for not beating around the bush. «I have a proposal for you.» Before that, however, some context was needed. «Danzo-sama has put forth my name to be promoted to captain. And I accepted it. It'll become official as soon as the Hokage has the opportunity to revise and sign the document.»

ㅤWhich... was also a nice way of implying that said document was about to be partially forged, for the sake of stating Itachi's age as older than it truly was. Because, indeed, he was too young for the role of ANBU captain and some legal tweaking was necessary - in the words of that same Danzo. Tenzou himself was intelligent and surely would arrive at his own conclusions, so Itachi wouldn't bore him about details. His intention for calling over his friend was a much more pragmatic one.

ㅤ«I want you in my new team, as my second-in-command. I'm already considering a few other names, but you are at the top of my priority list. Do you accept?»

Blunt and to the point, like ripping off a band-aid; in typical Itachi style.

Did anyone ever teach naruto how to use the swing? Or has he just been sitting there when he’s sad the whole time? Cuz I feel like his quality of life would have improved in he knew how to pump his legs right to get high up.

“Here, kid.” Naruto jolted at the soft voice from to close behind him, nearly tumbling from the swing as he twisted to see who had snuck up on him.

A flat porcelain mask looked back at him, detailed to look like a bird. From behind the eyeholes in the back brown eyes looked back at him. Soft. Full of kindness rather than disgust.

ANBU, but… not one that Naruto normally saw. Not one that looked at him with the same rage and hate that everyone else did. Not one of the ones that he caught ducking around corners and into the shade of rooftops when he turned too quickly. Not even the one that he sometimes saw crouch on the roof next to the orphanage who felt… sadder than the others. Sometimes on the days Naruto saw him, little trinkets or food would appear in his room in the orphanage. Gifts for all that Naruto didn’t understand why.

Naruto but his lip. “I can go…”

The ANBU clicked his tongue and shook his head. “Stay, kid. Let me help you.”

Naruto blinked. Help him?

A soft laugh, muffled by the mask but honest and kind in a way most laughs around him were not. “With the swing kid. Has anyone shown you?”

Again Naruto blinked. He slowly shook his head.

He’s seen parents push their kids on the swings before. Has seen some of the older kids wiggling their legs to themselves go without someone behind them, but no one had ever shown him what to do.

“Grab the ropes,” the ANBU said, humming when Naruto scrambled to comply. After a second gloved hands were on the ropes above Naruto’s dragging the swing back a little bit before letting it go.

The wind blew through his hair.

It kind of felt like flying.

A hand rested in his back gently pushing him to help him swing a little higher.

Naruto laughed, in exhilaration, in joy, in some jumbled warm feeling he couldnt explain. Someone was playing with him.

After a few pushes the ANBU hummed again. “Tuck your legs under you when you go back and swing them forward when you start going forward again. You can lean back when you swing foreword if you want to go higher just make sure you’re holding into the ropes.”

It took Naruto a couple swings to get the movements right but when he did.

Swinging. He was swinging!

He laughed again, leaning so far back as he did that the ANBU lunged forward to grab the ropes to make sure he didn’t fall. “Why don’t we do that with our feet on the ground yeah?”

Naruto was a mess of giggles and tears as he nodded. The ANBU didn’t seem to mind as one of his hands let go of the ropes to rest off Naruto’s head. Comforting. Grounding. Slowly the tears and hysterical laughter stopped and Naruto slumped against the gray clad chest. He wanted to keep this. Wanted someone like everyone else got to have.

“I’m not sure if I have it. Will you show me again tomorrow?” He asked, tipping his head back against the ANBU’s chest to look up into his brown eyes behind the mask.

The ANBU snorted. “Cant do tomorrow but I’m free the day after. I’ll show you again.”

Naruto beamed. Finally he had his own friend.

Anbu

are covert operatives of capable ninja that are dispatched by their village kage. There are apparently no ranks within the Anbu; team leadership and hierarchy seem to be based on merit and experience. The leaders of the teams are called squad leaders, a position held in high regard.(This mostly goes for konoha’s anbu)

Because Anbu are so vital to the village's operations, they cannot be arrested by the police without a warrant. ch222

Root

Root carried out missions that Danzō believed would benefit Konoha. Because of its core views as "the unseen ones who support the great tree of Konoha from the depths of the earth" ch 285

some of these missions were less respectable, such as eliminating individuals that were considered potential threats simply for their hatred for Konoha, despite not actually having done anything against the village. The organisation's top priority was its secrecy, and most of its missions were carried out in the dark of Konoha's authority. Root was officially disbanded after the Uchiha Clan Downfall due to Danzō spearheading the tragedy.ch284

 remained active as an underground organisation until Danzō's death. Despite Third's orders to disband the group, the members remained loyal to Danzō, his orders being the highest priority over even the Hokage's. Danzō's death, Sai suggested its members look to Kakashi for guidance since Kakashi, at the time, was slated to become Hokage.ch488

Root was strict and secretive group, the organisation had a cursed seal imprinted on the back of their tongues by Danzō when activated, would paralyse their entire body if they tried to speak anything about Danzō or the organisation, rendering them unable to speak or move. Sai noted that this was done in an effort to prevent an info leak should any of them be captured and interrogated by enemy forces.ch452 The seal disappeared after Danzō's death ch488

Danzō had also trained its members to lose their emotions by growing up as brothers from a young age, only to later be made to kill each other. ch303

Another specialty of the organisation was slow, long-term brainwashing. In the case of one of their members, Nonō Yakushi, she was brainwashed through a series of pictures starting with photographs of Kabuto one of her former wards at orphanage showing him growing up. Root slowly switched the person in the photographs entirely and then gave Nonō the order to kill the actual Kabuto.Resulting in Nonō not recognising Kabuto in their final moments. ch584

 Kirigakure, there is a subdivision of Anbu known as hunter-nin: hunter-nin track down and kill missing-nin from Kiri, bringing the head as proof and disposing of the rest of the body so as to not leave behind any info for their enemies.
