Homemade WW2 pirate flag made from scraps found aboard the submarine “Unbroken” by petty officer Frederick C. Sharpe, DCM (Distinguished Service Cross).
The bars on the left are merchant ships attacked, and those in red are the ones that sunk. On the other side are crossed cannons, and stars that represent merchant ships sunk with the deck guns. The crossed daggers represent the secret cloak-and-dagger missions undertaken by the “Unbroken”.

Billy Marshall, King of the Galloway Tinker Gypsies died on 28th November 1792, allegedly at the age of 120 years.
Billy Marshall fought at the Battle of the Boyne and deserted the army seven times and the Royal Navy three times during his eventful 120 years on earth
The oldest man recorded in modern history books — one Jiroemon Kimura of Japan — reached 116 years, 54 days. But even this grand old age doesn't beat the oldest ever Scotsman, who is said to have lived for more than 120 years. What's more, William 'Billy' Marshall was around long before the age of modern medicine and at a time when average life expectancy was less than 50 years.
Marshall died on this day in 1792 and his tombstone in St Cuthbert's churchyard in Kirkcudbright records that he reached the 'advanced age of 120 years'.
It also records his occupation as 'tinker' although he was also known as the 'King of the Gypsies', the 'King of the Randies' and the 'Caird of Barullion'. Billy was also a bare knuckle boxer, a smuggler, a soldier who deserted seven times and a sailor who deserted three times.
He was married 17 times and was the father of 68 children, including four reputedly after his 100th birthday.
Billy is said to have fought with William of Orange at the Battle of the Boyne in 1690 and more than once with the Duke of Marlborough at Flanders during the Nine Years War (1688-1697).
However, he deserted each year, no matter where he was, in order to attend Keltonhill Fair, two miles from Castle Douglas. The Horse Fair was the highlight of the gypsy year, and Billy claimed not to have missed one in a 100 years.
According to an entry in the New Annual Register for 1792: "This miracle of longevity retained his senses almost to the last hour of his life. He remembered distinctly to have seen King William's Fleet, when on their way to Ireland, riding at anchor in the Solway Firth close by the bay of Kirkcudbright, and the transports lying in the harbour.
"He was present at the siege of Derry (in 1689), where having lost his uncle, who commanded a King's frigate, he returned home, enlisted in the Dutch service, went to Holland and soon after deserted, and came back to his native country.
"Naturally of a wandering and unsettled turn of mind, he could never remain long in any particular place. Hence he took up the occupation of a tinker, headed a body of lawless bandits and frequently traversed the kingdom from one end to the other. But it is to be observed to his credit that all the thieving wandering geniuses who, during the weakness of the established government, led forth their various gangs to plunder and to alarm the country, he was far the most honourable in his profession."
Having served as a soldier, he was able to organise the country people who lost land when landowners built stone dykes and walls and went round knocking them down.
He was a skilled horner, giving him the name 'Caird of Barullion' - a ceardon being a gypsy word for a skilled worker who practices some trade or handicraft and Barullion being his homeland in Galloway.
Several examples of his work made of cow, sheep and goat horn at the Museum of Kirkcudbright. One of the spoons has a twisted handle and is inscribed 'W x M 115 1788' — his initials, age and the date.

hi please feel free to ignore this ask! im just not sure who else to ask and google isnt being very helpful. i want to know if its ethical as tourists to visit kashmir?
I believe it’s complicated. I’ll preface this by saying I’ve actually been a tourist in Kashmir (and it was wonderful, but, not relevant). there are a hundred ways to “be” a tourist in Kashmir; the fact of the matter is you could spend almost a month in the state without giving a single rupee to locals because Hindutva orgs and states have set up alternative food and residential apparatuses that makes “touring” Kashmir completely removed from Kashmiris, especially for Amarnath pilgrims. You will not eat or stay at Kashmiri owned establishments. You will not buy handicrafts made by Kashmiris. You will only benefit corporate and state apparatuses working on displacing Kashmiris materially culturally.
However, if you visit Kashmir and make a point to patronise Kashmiri owned establishments (who do need tourism money) and buy Kashmiri products and avoid giving money to the saffronised and state owned orgs, I believe it’s ethical. I’d recommend not going to Amarnath. Don’t haggle at handicrafts shops, with drivers, guides, shikara sailors etc. Take a note of the massive military presence there. Eat at a local restaurant and not to sarvanna bhavan and certainly not at one of the Amarnath camps set up by the government, etc. save up money to buy shawls and stoles and pherans.
ALSO GIVE FIVE STARS TO PLACES YOU VISIT bcs sanghis literally review bomb Kashmiri owned restaurants and shit.

Sailor Quartet traits
I answered a question about gathering info on the sailor quartet recently and thought I'd share my educated guess on their characters here.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
love the quartet but they're isn't a lot of material on them. For their eternal transformations it would probably be Ceres crystal power make up and so on but but Ceres asteroid power make up would probably work as an earlier phrase.
You can find info on their order of birth, and some personality trait info in various bonus materials like that above. Other things you can kind of guess based on their circus rolee, powers and traights, as well as which of the inners they parallel.
So the following is guess work for them based on on their parallels, circus abilities, colors and what the Roman gods represent would be can be.
Ceres is the flower magician so you can say she'd have plant based powers which does match how the inner guardians abilities were partially inspired by wuxing elements. Her element would be wood and possibly earth. It also matches what Ceres was the goddess of. She was God of crops and grain, as well as motherly relationships and fertility. So this also helps show her as a mirror of Venus in that it can be a form of love. Shes Leader of the group. If venus looks like serenity to serve as a body double then that can possible applied to Ceres, which would explain whey her main color is pink. Both in hair and her sailor suit. The yellow ribbons can be seen as influence from her parallel with minako. Interesting that they both wear ribbons in their hair.
Ceres was supposed to talk very aristocraticly and be kind of stuck up. The note above says she thinks highly of herself which does match her behavior in super s. Like when she targeted the painter lol
Vesta would be fire. Which makes sense, one of the things her patron goddess is god of is the hearth (fireplace). She parallels mars. So her attacks could maybe also be fire animals, like how mars had snake fire. Doing that could match her role as the animal tamer. She's the youngest. Also God of virginity, home and family. The virginity influence would also match sailor mars and how she took a vow of chastity.
Juno is trickier. She's the third oldest and her goddess is the protector and special counselor of the state. She was equated to Hera, queen of the gods in Greek mythology. A consort of Jupiter, so there's a parallel with Sailor Jupiter there. Has warlike aspects and is a godess of marriage. Juno as a character is very tomboy like and the acrobat of the group so that also helps draw a parallel to Mako. With her goddess being Jupiter's wife you could argue that she could have lightning powers like sailor jupiter. If we stick to wuxang maybe metal could be her element and metal clattracts lightning so it works kind of.
Then there is Pallas. She is the second oldest but most immature. Counterpart to mercury and the tactician of the team. So we could associate her with the wuxang element of water like mercury. She's also the ball rider so balls of water could work as an initial attack, maybe like Mercury's bubble spray in the og anime. The og anime also showed her having some keen insight in a few scenes like when they worked with the guardians to help set up that event. Now their are 2 Pallas in Greek mythology. One a titan and the other is an epithat for Athena. We'll go with Athena cause that would tie her to wisdom, strategic warfare and handicraft. Which would suit her as she is supposedly a strategist like mercury and was shown enjoy various things like dolls. The notes above say she is kind of stupid, but that could really just be her immaturity. Plus the notes above are more about their circus versions, which were corrupted by Nehelenia, so it's possible she magnified their nore negative traights.
I think it's worth considering their anime portrayal as part of their character. Takeuchi was involved with the 90s anime despite its many liberties, and the 90s anime does build on and flesh out a lot of concepts. So if it doesn't directly contrast something from the manga, I think it's OK to contemplate how things like the quartet's characterization can fit into their manga cointerparts.

A haunting melody in the middle of the night causes the Producer to seek out where, or whom it might be coming from. Surely it's not the ghost Hinata's been talking about..?
Tumblr media
Night had fallen on Yumenosaki Academy. Most of everyone had gone home, even the hardworking Anzu had retired for the day. Yet the young producer found herself navigating the dark halls of the school, the dim moonlight pouring in from the windows the only guide.
The doors to the Handicraft Clubroom closed with a gentle thud, though in the quiet halls, it may as well have been as loud as a gunshot. Not for the first time, the girl internally cursed her forgetfulness, having left her sketchbook earlier in the day. She pocketed the spare key Tsumugi had given her long ago as she made her way to leave-
"...Utagoe no hana ga mau..."
The sketchbook in her arms clattered to the floor with a loud thump, though the girl could barely hear it through the rapid beating of her own heart. She should have been all alone with not a soul in sight, and she was starting to wonder whether that was a good thing or not.
"It was just my imagination..." she tried calming her racing heartbeat as she picked up the fallen sketchbook. "There's no one here except me..."
"...Kuchi nagara..."
No, that was definitely a voice, one entirely different from her own.
Breath stopping at her throat and a white-knuckle grip on her sketchbook, the younger producer was shaking like a leaf, frozen stiff in her spot by the door. Her mind immediately went to all of the many stories the older Aoi twin liked to tell her about the school.
"Have you heard?" Hinata whispered mischievously by her ear one afternoon while she was making preparations for 2Wink's next live. "About the Seven Wonders of Yumenosaki Academy?"
Yuta had been quick to shut down his brother, scolding him for bothering her and getting him back to rehearsing. She tried to recall what the older twin had said; something about a painting that could make its hair longer, a piano playing by itself-
"...Eien wo..."
And a female student in the idol course who jumped off the school roof due to unknown circumstances.
"I-It's Hina playing a prank, it h-has to be!" she tried reassuring herself, as the haunting voice continued its melancholy tune.
Though everything in her was screaming for her to run, something about the ethereal voice was drawing her in. Like a sailor being lured to his death by a siren, shaky footsteps marched their way to the rooftop. The moonlight was brighter now that she was actually outside, and it gave her the extra bit of courage to find where the melody was coming from. She continued onwards until she could see a silhouette facing away from her until the dark clouds parted just enough for moonlight to shine upon an oh-so-familiar head of dark green hair.
"M-Mika-senpai..." her whisper drifted off in the wind, but it was enough for the aforementioned male to stop and turn towards her.
"K-Kazue..?" Mika called out before a smaller body collided with his own.
A silent "Oomf" escaped him before he instinctively wrapped his arms around the petite girl. He could feel her shaking as she buried her face in his chest, her own arms almost desperately trying to keep him in place.
"H-Hey, what's wrong?" Mika asked, frantically wracking his brain for any reason why their producer seemed so upset. He eventually settled for awkwardly petting her soft bed of white hair, almost glistening silver in the late evening light. "I thought ya went home? Wha' happened?"
He abruptly stopped petting her, instead firmly placing his hands on her shoulders. Intense mismatched hues stared into light blue gems, gems that, upon closer inspection, seemed to be on the verge of tears. Fear crept onto the boy's countenance as he gently tried to reassure the girl.
"I's okay, you're gon' be okay," Mika consoled as he returned to placing soft pats on her head. He hoped the brief moment of fear that flashed through him at seeing their sweet producer all teary-eyed wasn't as noticeable in the dim lighting. "Yer safe now."
Later that evening, Mika would escort the younger girl home. And while he was sworn to secrecy that he wouldn't mention her frantic state at having thought he was a ghost, perhaps he would stop his nightly practices on the rooftop for a bit. And just maybe he would ask his teacher to pull some strings and keep their producer away from the Aoi twins for a while.

Lindin interview with Stefán Karl about his time at Vatnaskógur (Waterforest) summer camp when he was young, published on the 1st of April 2002

Vatnaskógur conveys an inner beauty that everyone seeks
The actor Stefán Karl Stefánsson hardly needs to be introduced to Lindin's readers compared to other Icelanders. It caused a great deal of attention when he was the first of all actors who have been involved in the history of the National Theater because he was employed by the theater for six months before graduating from the Iceland Academy of Drama. In recent years, he has played into the hearts and minds of young and old theater guests, for example as Glanni Glæpur in Latabær, the dentist in the Little Shop of Horrors and in countless roles in the play Stones in His Pockets.
In addition, Stefán Karl has traveled extensively over the past year or so with visits to schools and community centers. There he talks to the younger generation and parents about bullying and shares with them his experience as a victim of bullying.
Few people know that Stefán Karl is a woodsman (Vatnaskógur Campers name), but that's precisely why he is Lindin's interviewee this time. Lindin's scout didn't need to ask Stefán Karl about much because he had been nearly from the beginning of the interview talking about it and they were able able to enjoy themselves for the remainder of the interview.
Meticulous, but with a few friends this pier rat.
I'm from Hafnfjörður, born on July 10, 1975. I must have been a rather unwieldy boy, not hyperactive but what I'd like to call meticulous. I had a very good childhood in Hafnarfjörður, as it is a great adventure town, with advantages that suited me and my character. I may be referring in particular to the nature of the hunt in me, since it has been with me ever since I was a little boy, to be totally sick at fishing.
I hung out a lot down on the dock all day long, looked for marlins and dabs and watched the boats, I knew all the sailors in Hafnarfjörður. No wonder I was named a pier rat!
I wasn't that old when the acting bacterium appeared in me and I appeared in plays right from primary school. My first role was the monkey Mr. Nilsson when my class played Pippi Longstocking for the other kids at school. Although it was good growing up in Hafnarfjörður, I had very few friends as a child. My support base was mainly good parents and brothers who supported me.
A small, sad woodsman encounters adventures
It was during these years that I took part in a travel group in Vatnaskógur and became a Woodsman. I went two summers in a row and I think I was nine years old when I first went. These days in Vatnaskógur have been unforgettable for me. I went alone, had no friend to go with, but it made no difference.
I immediately felt very welcome and at home in Vatnaskógur. The first time I went, though, I was small, very homesick, and didn't know many people. Sometimes I went to cry and such, but the staff took good care of me.
I especially remember him Svenna smið (Sveinn Alfreðsson), how he was always kind to me. Later, he taught me handicrafts at school, so my acquaintance with him grew. I tried quite hard to go to Skóginn the following summer, which indicates that I felt good, despite my homesickness.
My first summer I slept in Skógarsalur (Forest hall) in Gamli skáli (Old lodge), but later in Lerkiskáli (Larch lodge). The charm of Gamli skáli is naturally many times greater, although the other ones have been nice.
From my memory, it is as if the days in Vatnaskógur were one continuous adventure from morning to evening. For example, I went on a treasure hunt, some kind of Indian game, and got completely lost in the woods, and the same thing happened when I participated in a BMX bike race. I got off the track and ended up in a peat bog and made a complete fool of myself.
Of course, the water attracted me, especially the fish in it, so I darted quite a bit by Eyrarvatn (Water ear). Yes, and then you could go to the library upstairs in the gym and borrowed books or cards, so you didn't get bored.
For me, the shop in the basement of Gamli skáli is very memorable, as it is one of the most peculiar shops I have ever done business with. This shop, which I understand has been closed down, was a great mystery in itself. A narrow hatch lay across and so low that you had to bend sharply to get what you were going to buy.
Above the hatch was a glass pane where you could watch the resident staff deliver candy, soda, and souvenirs while you waited in line. I bought a lot of licorice in the shop.
I think I behaved quite well in Vatnaskógur, as usual. However, I have clearly had some mischief because one night I was punished for beating together teaspoons and put in an evening coffee punishment. The commander had repeatedly ordered me to stop it, but I couldn't help but strike a chord with the spoons, especially since the boys at the table thought it was so funny.

Sailor, actor and pilot
One of the things that I found particularly positive about Vatnaskógur was the good discipline of the boys. Likewise, this clear message of the Christian faith had a profound effect on me, and when I look back, I feel that it was good for me. I believe in God, even though I'm not an outspoken man of faith. but for example, I often talk to God and always pray before I go on stage.
Vatnaskógur conveys the inner beauty and peace that we're usually looking for all our lives and I think that many things would be better in connection with the upbringing of children and consequently in society in general if the Christian faith was more devoted to children.
For example, in my lectures on bullying in schools, I have focused on parents praying with their children and taking them to church. People must realize that the educational role of the schools can first and foremost affect the children's education. Your child needs to have a support base for their feelings at home.
The home is the place to be, the school is generally not a place for emotions. The most important thing, since I have started talking about bullying, is that the children are valued. We have different talents and none of them in themselves are more remarkable than another.
I'm proud to say that I'm achieving everything I wanted to be as a boy, i.e. being a sailor, pilot and actor.
I have the so-called pocket exam, I'm finishing a private pilot exam at the moment and of course I have an exam in my pocket as an actor. There is no question that I am best known for being an actor, as it so happens that kids ask me for autographs when I come to school to talk about bullying. However, I have a habit when kids ask me for an autograph to give it to them on the condition that they give me their autograph as well.
Over time, I can become a rich man because who knows if I am not in autographs museum being the first endorsement of several great men of the future.
No, for all intents and purposes, I'm emphasizing that I'm nothing more remarkable, but more people know my name. We are all just ordinary people who build this world, said Stefán Karl in the end.

INCREDIBLE INDIA
We arrive at the territory of 1,000 languages along with 1,000 gods. In the Intercontinental, the ladies in my personal collection are well versed with marigolds and branded with all a standard red dot onto our foreheads. This lodge is an oasis of luxurious at a polluted metropolis of 14 million folks. Two times have been spent traveling Delhi. Wrapped in the dust, and people come back. Every single night there's entertainment underneath the celebrities together with musicians, folk dancers, puppet present or flame fighters. No alcoholic beverages are authorized and all foods are vegetarian buffets. An Ayurveda middle delivers us treatment options to cleansing toxins. We reduce these induced throwing up, enemas, nasal drainage along with blood-letting.
We see the sacred town of Pushkar having its own sacred lake made by Lord Brahma. Pilgrims appear from afar to wash at the ghats and snore round-the-clock. We know about religions: Zorastrism,'' Sikhism, the mysterious Sufi's, Jainists who won't eliminate a mosquito, Hinduism that asserts no total accuracy and also the caste system. We see temples in the lake; a few really are"blessed" by priests. Later on, a highlight for me personally was 1 hour Camel Cart Safari supporting the scenes of this honest. Kiddies line our path yelling to us"Hello, 1 pencil remember to!" We view a slaughtered and half of nude folks washing daily. Straight back within the reasons we see an orphanage and scatter separately for lost from the frenzied revelry. We trip enormous spitting camels offering us an increased view of this all. I buy twelve garnet silver and necklaces ankle bracelets. Teen boys tactic Terry to picture him. He has 6'5'". One as him"Sir, what would you consume?"
Our collection proved to be all wonderful!
You will find infinite food however we ought to pass enticements to protect against"Delhi stomach." I detect that the cacophony of insanity lovely. Pushkar is quite an event affair for those sailors and also we have been an only captioning company. I am really so thankful to undergo this a while and energy to move with all our hectic trip.
We arrive at the famous"Pink City" of Jaipur, today a more profound maroon from contamination. Additionally vacationing its own palaces, architectural and fort marvels, we know of those amazing Amber rulers and maharajahs of this Moghul empire. Heritage will come alive and now also I locate myself interested because I cared for. And here's really a shopper's heaven for silk sarees, stone, marble, and jewelry crafts. I saw a creature refuge known as"Assist ." The most peculiar examples of species have been treated by volunteer veterinarians. Exotic 5 stray canines have been sterilized each day and that I see an operation. (Watch www.HIS-INDIA.com ) you are able to easily email them a test to provide help.
Only assist in Enduring' a puppy spaying Building a contribution Volunteer vets speak to Suzy
Onto observe the expansive Fatehpur Sikri, "Ghost Town of Akbar" which has been left as a result of lack of plain water. We reach Agra, a busted town of 2.5 million. Hawkers disturb us. Chained conveys dancing for rupees on the road. Starving kids ensue. We're grateful to marvel in the deluxe Sheraton the following along with its own western cuisine and also cheap massages at $20. It had been similar to a galaxy shift from your Caribbean.
Soon after seeing an eyeful of miracles on the way in which, we've spared the very best for final in the planet's biggest tribute to really like. Goose-bumps climb since I input the royal gate into the Taj Mahal. Morning sun warms it as just a perfect pearl...22 years to construct with 200,000 adult men with two million bits of wrought semi-precious stone. After having a lecture about which this ideal symmetry is made to get Queen Mumtaz, we distribute to picture exactly what looks like quite a mirage. It's poetry in design so that as glorious as is envisioned.

5.16.21 Luostarinmäki, Handicrafts Museum
We took a bus from our hotel and was dropped off, "about a ten-minute walk," to the museum. Sounds not too bad, right? Well, most of the walk was up the Stairs of Turku. Let's just say I was huffing and puffing quite a bit.
Tumblr media
The museum was excellent! It was like how the town would be set up from dates ranging from the 1700s to approximately the early 1900s. There were also some people dressed in period clothing that explained the homes and the handicrafts.

Notice the dogs in the window? They were brought back by a sailor from travels, "far away." The really cool thing is that if the dogs are looking out the window, that tells the neighbors that the sailor isn't home. He's at sea. When the two dogs are facing inside the home, that means the sailor is home and you can visit. I love this idea!
