info on the suit of pentacles in general
while the four of pentacles had both a positive and negative side to it, the five is a more negative card. in short, it's an indicator of poverty and a loss of resources. this might be financial, since the suit of pentacles tends to deal in the world of material possessions and your professional life. it doesn't always have to strictly relate to this though, it can also indicate hard times, struggles, and adversity in general, such as illness or loneliness. so yeah, not a great card, but I guess it could always mean that these kind of struggles are in your past and you're moving forward past them? we'll go with that one ☺️

At the birth of Benedict the dark ages were beginning with the fall of Rome which put the world into darkness except for one shining light with a Benedictine rule, that enlighten Western Europe slowly, for the Benedictine life encouraged literacy and leaning. Therefore, as Benedictines we are grateful to the influence that Benedict provided for the world through his rule, which continues today. For all Benedictines must continue to foster Benedictine values of work and prayer to others, so that future generations may know the light, the truth, and that our reward is not in this world but in the age to come with Jesus who fulfilled his mission perfectly through the light of the resurrection, which we will share with Jesus for eternity, for he is the light flickering today in our troubled world.

ACTS XXIX
image. hamsa amulet—ancient symbol predating monotheism, but occurring variously in levantine religions; providing protection from the evil eye. i discovered this interesting example in a columbian jewelry boutique: has embedded a miniature saint benedict medal face.
the face is a reduced copy of the 1880 design by the monk desiderius lenz, which was minted for the occasion of st benedict’s 1400th birthday—the original medal predates to unremembered date.
legend. on the medal obverse is displayed a cross with five initialisms of exorcistic formulae: across each cross bar, one spanning quadrants, & two around the perimeter. V R S—the most familiar formula: vade retro satana — get back satan! st benedict (benedictus nursiae) was born in 480, thus i’ve written the legend in uncial of the period [cf. bernhard bischoff, Paläographie des römischen Altertums und des abendländischen Mittelalters, erich schmidt verlag, berlin, 1979, p87].
