Lussevaka 🌟 after the deep darkness always come the light. Inspired by the Scandinavian believes that on the 12th December, Lussi the winter witch, comes during night with her horde Lussiferda, to steal the souls of the living who wander outside, or destroys homes that are untidy. The best way to guard oneself from evil is to light as much candles as possible and to stay awake through the night. On the 13th the light bringing Saint Lucy will make the demons go away until next year.

En el imaginario popular de muchos países, el día más corto es el 13 de diciembre, día de Santa Lucía. Depende del calendario que se use (Juliano o Gregoriano).
En Italia y los Países Escandinavos es toda una fiesta.

Lussi Night
This does appear to be another variation of the wild hunt, which is also reminiscent of the "Night Battles" of the Benandanti or "Good People" (another name for fairies) in Northern Italy. All of these myths have witchy UFOish connotations. ❤

"Lussinatta, the Lussi Night, was marked in Sweden on the 13th December.
Then Lussi, a female being with traits, like a female demon or witch, was said to ride through the air with her followers, called Lussiferda. This itself might be an echo of the myth of the Wild Hunt, called Oskoreia in Scandinavia, found across Northern, Western and Central Europe.
Between Lussi Night and Yule, trolls and evil spirits, in some accounts also the spirits of the dead, were thought to be active outside. It was believed to be particularly dangerous to be out during Lussi Night. According to tradition, children who had done mischief had to take special care, since Lussi could come down through the chimney and take them away, and certain tasks of work in the preparation for Yule had to be finished, or else the Lussi would come to punish the household. The tradition of Lussevaka – to stay awake through the Lussinatt to guard oneself and the household against evil, has found a modern form through throwing parties until daybreak. Another company of spirits was said to come riding through the night around Yule itself, journeying through the air, over land and water."

theres a reason we celebrate the holidays that take place in or around december at the time we do. MOST of the sacred holidays celebrated near midwinter have a very similar story. its a very old story that we all know well: its always about a candle in the darkness; its always about hope in the most hopeless times. when the sun is as far away from us as it ever gets, the earth speaks and tells the same story over and over again, "spring is born in the darkest nights of winter. it is small and meek but it will grow."
