i’m still talking things over with mars about mengaa bc i’m madly in love with them... so i’m sticking with itachi. and my favorite ship for him is kakaita. so that’s what i’m talking about today. 🥰 disclaimer: age-gap. kakashi is older than itachi. obviously all answers are time appropriate, default set to blank period post part I / shippuuden era.

Who is the most affectionate?

Surprisingly, both of them are. I live for the idea of domestic kakaita and how comfortable they are around each other. They’ll have these lil moments of peace and quiet, and just lean into each other and enjoy some quality time together. They’ll always have some part of their bodies touching, it’s really sweet. They’ll be reading on the sofa, and their legs will be laced together. Or Itachi will nap on top of Kakashi’s chest listening to his heartbeat. I’d say Itachi is the one who seeks those moments more often, though.

Who initiates the handholding?

Kakashi. He’s all for the handholding even if they’re already all over each other. Like okay but give me More. And he’ll play with Itachi’s fingers while they’re talking or reading or just plain chilling. Itachi’s hands are very soft so that’s an added bonus.

Who worries more for the other?

Kakashi worries because sometimes he’ll look over at Itachi and there’s nothing in his eyes... He knows there’s not much he can do about it, especially because it’s directly related to Itachi’s family and it’s just outside of his grasp. Kakashi is always scared because he recognizes the self-harm tendencies in Itachi’s carelessness regarding his own life, in how arrogant Itachi can be about his abilities and whatnot. He can’t stand the idea of someone he cares about deliberately taking their lives, not again...

Who is more likely to ask for help?

Depends on what they’re asking help for, actually. But I’m going with Kakashi being more open to the idea because of his past experiences with Team Minato and how that changed him, even if they’re still alive in this setting. Itachi is reluctant because he can’t get behind bringing Kakashi into the mess that is his life, he feels it’s selfish of him to do so.

Who is the one always losing the keys?

Itachi. He’s always carrying misc. junk in his pockets, stuff he found on the street and picked it up bc it was shiny, plus he’s not that attentive to small objects. So at some point if falls upon Kakashi to keep track of the keys, Itachi will use the spare one they hide somewhere. He’ll lose that one too. lmao

Who leaves little love notes for the other?

Itachi. He’ll hide them between the pages of whatever book Kakashi’s reading, or roll them up with his scrolls so Kakashi finds it later. Sometimes it’s just doodles and some nonsense. 🥰

Who can’t sleep unless the other is there?

Neither of them can sleep when the other isn’t around, not once they get used to it. Itachi struggles with insomnia and the occasional night terror, while Kakashi has nightmares so bad he prefers not to sleep at all. When they’re together, they can relax and fall asleep in each other’s embrace.

Who is more likely to propose to the other?

Kakashi... It’s not to say that he is going to, but if it were to happen, Kakashi’s the one to propose. It gives him a sense of control? Idk if that’s the word, but it will put most of his worries at ease knowing that Itachi’s tied to him somehow.

Who introduced the other to their family first?

Kakashi will take Itachi to Sakumo’s stone, it’s pretty far off and isolated because of the whole ‘shame on him’ thing that led him to take this life, and Itachi will introduce himself and ask for his blessing. Itachi won’t properly introduce Kakashi to his parents because they’re not on good terms, but he will tell Sasuke about their relationship. Eventually. When he feels that Sasuke might not get as upset.

Who is more likely to play with the other’s hair?

Kakashi. He likes to run his fingers through Itachi’s hair and massage his scalp and nape. Itachi purrs like a kitten.

Who makes sure the other has meals/stays hydrated?

Kakashi. Itachi can’t cook for the life of him, and his priorities lay elsewhere, so he only eats when his stomachs grumbles and his throat feels weird. Kakashi takes it upon himself to fix that.

Who is more likely to stand up to anyone for the other?

Itachi. Especially regarding Kakashi’s sharingan. Some random Uchiha will trashtalk him in front of Itachi but he ain’t having none of it. Back the fuck off, buddy.

Who is the most likely to prepare a surprise for the other?

Itachi. And it always works because he’s really good at keeping secrets, even from Kakashi. Which will taunt Kakashi to no end after said surprise is over, because he overthinks it.

Who makes the other pinky promise not to do certain things?

Itachi. And he’s very serious about it. Kakashi thinks it’s silly but will comply. Won’t follow it through if the pinky promise is something he deems is going to lead Itachi astray, or harm him in anyway. I’m thinking too much about this, but it is what it is...

Who puts a blanket over the other when they fall asleep on the couch?

They always nap together because there’s no other option. I rest my case.

Here’s some stuff for my HCxNaruto crossover fic, You Can’t Take it Back. Spoilers! Beware!

So part of the concept for the fic is that most of the hermits have been ‘naturalized’ or born into the world as one of its indigenous lifeforms instead of being in the world in their true player forms. This means that they are going to have a variety of differences from their true forms i.e. how they look with their player skins and that they will be subject to different rules. They don’t cause the world to trigger a random tick speed, for example, and can’t use items like bone meal in the instantaneous way a player can.

I’ve been giving thought to the naturalization process and how it would change the hermits. Part of the mc lore is that the universe loves players and in the Naruto world, the ninja nations are the most powerful. There are many ways to become a strong ninja but the clan bloodlines are notoriously overpowered and give whoever has them a huge advantage. The world/universe would definitely give the hermits situations in which they get that advantage. That is the current (shared) logic for giving each hermit an ability or bloodline limit (kekki genkai). There is another reason, but I’ve decided not to spoil it for now. 

So then, who has what? 

Before that, I did also chart out the ages for the hermits. This is NOT related to the human people, just the characters! So my basis for the order and approximate spacing out of the ages was the upload date of the first mc video I could find on their channel, with five exceptions: 1) TFC, as the real human dude explicitly said in his first video that he stated playing mc for the first time on the previous Thursday in his first mc upload; I used that date for his character 2) Etho, whose age I adjusted to make sense for when Sakumo could have a first family according to the timeline. If I hadn’t he’d have been too old to be Kakashi’s brother 3) Xisuma, Cleo, and Jevin as those three were not naturalized. As they are still in their true forms I’m just giving them a blanket age of ‘thousands of years old’ for convenience. I know that mathematically seasons are roughly a century but I am purposefully making the hermits much, much older than that.

Having a body that’s a certain age in a certain place doesn’t mean that thousands of years of memories are gone. This leads to some strange behaviors and expectations from the hermits from an outsiders perceptive.

For reference, Kakashi is 25 when my story starts. We begin before canon, and he will be 26 when the canon timeline begins.

Without further ado, the fun part-

Jevin: thousands of years old - player

Xisuma: thousands of years old - player; Admin

Cleo: thousands of years old - player

Scar: 48 years old, Deiton or mud release (clan not named in Naruto canon)

Hypno: 46 years old, Ketsuryūgan which is hypnotism and blood/iron manipulation (Chinoike clan)

Bdubs: 45 years old, Rinnegan that he uses to grow plants; still has shreep powers but doesn’t know it… (in Naruto canon the obtaining the Rinnegan goes like this: a) it can be given to someone by a god or b) someone with a Sharingan and Six Paths chakra can activate it)

False: 43 years old, Shikotsumyaku; a bone bloodline that lets you grow out your bones and use them as armor/weapons (Kaguya clan)

Joe: 40 years old, chakra chains but pale blue white instead of gold; sealing in standard galactic (Uzumaki clan)

Cub: 40 years old, can phase through matter and change size to half size or double size (not from Naruto canon, based on Vex)

Ren: 38 years old, Mokuton aka wood release (Senju clan)

TFC: 36 years old, Byakugan with a specialty of locating and picking out earth materials (Hyuga clan) 

Beef: 36 years old, does know some of his clan’s medical techniques and has the unnamed clan bloodlimit that allows him to absorb chakra to duplicate appearance and also memory of a body (Rinha clan)

Impulse: 34 years old, no kekki genkai but has a condition where his body produces extra chakra (hyperchakra synthesis?, not Naruto canon)

Tango: 33 years old, has Koton aka steel release (Metero Konjiki is the only named individual in the Naruto canon with an inherited steel release, for the fic I will assume there is a Konjiki clan) 

Zedaph: 33 years old, he’s a very good sensor and animals, even summons are disinclined to disobey him (made up, not in Naruto canon)

Etho: 32 years old, white chakra (Hatake clan- this isn’t canon, rather fanon)

Doc: 32 years old, regrow allows the regrowth of limbs and advanced self-healing (not Naruto canon, made up based on true form Doc missing so many parts, the universe wants to keep him alive here)

xB: 31 years old, has Meiton or dark release which allows him to take chakra from others and control it (clan unknown / unnamed in Naruto canon)

Mumbo: 27 years old, has fully unlocked sharingan and no idea there are multiple stages (Uchiha clan)

Keralis: 27 years old, can induce genjutsu by hearing his voice (made up, based on Keralis having the Silkiest TM voice)

Iskall: 24 years old, Jiton aka magnet release, allows the user to make a magnetic field to manipulate magnetic items (not unique to one clan, seems decently widespread for a bloodlimit)

Stress: 24 years old, dual kekki genkai of Shoton and Hyoton or crystal and ice release respectively. (The Shoton is the bloodlimit of the Yuki clan and their descendants; the Hyoton is unique to one individual in the Naruto anime and there is never a specific clan associated with it)

Wels: 23 years old, can chakra bond with people; bond lets him know where his in-network people are and their general state of being + can infuse things with his chakra, including people, but this is a bind instead of a bond (bonds are mutual, binds are involuntary on the target’s part. Ability is made up, not Naruto canon) 

Grian: 20 years old, can turn to dust and possess people (Iburi clan)

Gem: 19 years old, is able to absorb and use natural energy (ability from Jugo’s clan, which is unnamed)

Pearl: 17 years old, has night vision + has an immunity to genjutsu (made up, not from Naruto canon)

Whew, that’s a long list. As you can see, Kakashi has plenty of reason to think Orochimaru has been collecting them… how else would so many people with unique traits and kekki genkai end up in one place? And this is on top of the zombies and skeletons generated by the players around Hermit Town leading him to suspect use of the reanimation jutsu.

Currently I’m pretty happy with this ability lineup. Ren’s going to appear almost eeirly similar to the First Hokage for those who remember him, so I’m looking forward to that. Mumbo and Sasuke are going to be a hilarious combo, and can you just imagine Joe with Naruto?? And then Joe vs Jiraiya? A poet and a writer, two seal wielders who are dangerous and creative in their own rights. I’ve also been thinking about what to do with Sakura- she wouldn’t feel drawn to anyone as she won’t have a ‘blood relative!!? Must Interact.’ moment. I’m thinking about having her hang out with Doc or Scar atm because that seems the most comedic. I’m still pondering that, however, and team seven forming and meeting the hermits is still pretty far off.

I think there are two ways I like Jirakaka! First off: the dark version, where their entire relationship is built on guilt and the loss of Minato (and, possibly, Jiraiya’s guilt after Sakumo’s death, too).

Like, Jiraiya comes back to the village to train Naruto and has to face EVERYTHING he's been running away from, everything he left behind. Kakashi ABSOLUTELY blames him for Not Being There, and is a total bitch about it (as he deserves to be, tbh).

But he’s going to use this to his advantage. He presses on all of Jiraiya's guilt buttons to get him to be there for Naruto, because he sure wasn't there for Kakashi.

Somehow, this evolves into a very unhealthy Thing with a capital T that probably lasts until Tsunade has an intervention for them lmao.

I like exploring messed-up relationships that don't necessarily have a happy ending - especially when they're more 'mutually toxic' than 'abusive'. This could definitely be that!

OR. Or.

We have my personal favourite Jirakaka dynamic, where it was a terrible one night stand.

Maybe Jiraiya WASN'T around at all while Kakashi was a kid, so Kakashi only really knew him as Minato's sensei and the author of his favourite book series! That could lead to a lot of hero worship.

When they finally meet as adults, Kakashi goes full fanboy. Jiraiya loves the attention, and plays along, pretending he's a sex god like the heroes in his books.

It takes Kakashi one night to realise a) what Jiraiya's actually like and b) that he's probably not all that great at sex hjgfgdjkgjgkj

Maybe they do occasionally still hook up, but Kakashi has far more realistic expectations lmaoooooo

Then Minato gets edo-tensei'd back to life.

Kakashi is older than him now (physically and mentally) but that DOESN'T MEAN MINATO IS OKAY WITH THIS. He is absolutely going to Have Words with Jiraiya.

Kakashi, aged 30 (we're just... pretending Jiraiya didn't die) is sat in the corner while Minato's yelling at Jiraiya, unsure whether he wants popcorn or to hide what little can be seen of his very red face sldkfhgklsdhg

KakaIru has literal saddest crumbs of canon interaction. That's the truth. Aside from filler stuff who notoriously fed shippers of popular shitty pairings like SasuSaku and NaruHina, Kakashi and Iruka has grand total 3 interactions in the whole 700 chapters manga, each interaction last for less than 10 minutes, one of the said interaction is Kakashi telling Iruka to shut tf up.

It will be nice if KakaIru shippers are aware of this and makes KakaIru interactions as them being caretaker of Naruto but nooo they ripped off scenes that was supposed to be for other characters instead. Suddenly Iruka is the one who validated Sakumo and healed Kakashi's heart. Iruka is the one who make Kakashi late. Iruka is the secretly strong Jounin who helped Kakashi while he was in ANBU. Obito Gai Yamato whomst? Iruka is Kakashi's only light, Kakashi's special one. That's pathetic.

(Btw in the true canon alias manga, Team Minato already saw Kakashi's face too, and they were also so casual about it. Kakashi is just stingy about his face to Team 7, because he loves trolling his cute little students)

i mean, i think that all shippers read into/extrapolate from existing content because there sometimes isn't adequate canonical content. i also don't think it's entirely fair to suggest that every kkiru shipper "rips off" scenes intended for other characters, or thinks of iruka as single-handedly responsible for helping kakashi overcome his trauma. sure, people extrapolate, make assumptions, and play with canon interactions to best fit their ship. i think we all do it, no matter what ship we're biased toward.

Tobirama had a 11yo son, when he messed up that new Hiraishin seal that lets him do the time skip. This son is Sakumo, born Senju, marrierd into the Hatake clan. We all know what happened to Sakumo tho.

Kakashi knows about his herritage, but it has never really played a role in his life. So now suddenly his grandpa plops out of a time vortex and he’s like: “Ok, shit. How to handle this? I don’t know that dude, he’s nothing more than a name to me. I have zero connections to him. He probably doesn’t care, if I even exist.”

Spoiler: Tobirama does. He’s now 42, Sakumo would have been 46 by now. The situation is a bit awkward first for both but they get together. Kakashi is in the Anbu and Minato offers Tobirama, that he can lead the Anbu again (another headcanon), so Tobirama is also kinda his boss and they often work together. Usually Kakashi just calls him by his name, but when he wants to annoy the old man, he calls him sofu (grandfather) and Tobirama just hates it. “I am not that old, boy”, he growls and Kakashi laughs right in his face.

Also gender euphoria for Kakashi over being called boy, because he’s trans. He even goes over the fact that Tobirama calls him boy and not man, because he’s 15, he’s grown up™ now and not a kid anymore.

I can’t sleep and keep thinking about a stupid Little Nemo-esque AU, but it’s Kagumo moon stuff

okay hear me out on this:

it’s an ootstsuki!kakashi kind of AU, where the family is living their best lives in space, with kaguya lording over the moon and vaguely menacing/watching over earth, depending on your point of view. and sakumo’s vibing as a househusband. they live in like an insane crystal moon palace BECAUSE WHY NOT

and tbh I just love the idea of sakumo suddenly realizing 7 years in that their child could use some social skills beyond space wolves and plant monsters. so he goes up to kaguya and is like, “hey our very smart but frighteningly maladjusted son could maybe use a friend his age.”

reasonably, kaguya decides, “oh I’ll just instruct zetsu to go take a ‘friend’ from earth, that works 8)”

so zetsu stalks around for a lonely kid no one would likely miss too much and arround the same approximate size as kakashi, because what are human children, really. he’s honored to help mother but why oh why did mother send HIM to earth and not one of the stupid twins who actually like people and this is going to take forEVER, and—oh hey, look it’s obito

poor obito doesn’t have much in the way of friends, or much parental oversight; he seems to come and go in the village on his own. he helps out people here and there, and clowns around, but he seems to otherwise live by himself most of the time. 😔

(this can still be along some flavor of canon konoha for peak comedy)

and so kid obito wakes up to plant people in his house, and finds himself being invited on a playdate to the moon in his dreams. his dreams are always kind of funny anyway, so maybe he shrugs and says why not to going along with it?

....only it’s more he just *thinks* he’s dreaming and kind of volunteered himself to be nicely kidnapped by aliens. and maybe it’s also like in the film when nemo’s all “gee I dunno about this” until he finds out the princess also gifted him a literal chest full of cookies and sweets and then nemo’s miraculously on board to go. (it tracks with obito’s personality and weakness for candy, I’m just saying.)

it also takes obito two entire days to decide he is Not In Fact Dreaming, and is now stuck on the moon with a bunch of aliens, while equally playing and getting into fistfights with a half-alien moon prince in the meantime

I just can't stop thinking about Sakumo playing with his grandchild and reader watching them but accidentally falls asleep (because she's just so exhausted from taking care of the child while Kakashi is off saving the village) with Kakashi walking in on the sight omg his heart would swell with joy! And Sakumo then later being the one to fall asleep with baby on his chest, baby fast asleep because of all the stimulation they've gotten all day. And then it's readers turn to take care of dear father in law!

And while they're both awake taking care of child, they can have bonding time. Maybe there's been a little strife between Kakashi and reader. Just enough for reader to want to open up to someone but not sure who, until eventually she's so comfortable with Sakumo that it feels natural to confide in him, even if he is Kakashi's father. Who could give her better insight into Kakashi after all?

Ahhhh I'm sorry, I hyperfocus on things like this a lot, and don't worry about time factors or anything like that. That being said I might end up writing my own version of it, which I hope you would be ok with and of course I'll give you credit for if I eventually do.

YES YES YESS!!! This is basically what was running through my mind. I wanted to incorporate Kakashi somehow so I love the idea of him coming home and seeing them all bond like this. I know Sakumo is alive in this scenario but I still feel like their family is small and broken and just the two of them so to see it get bigger (and for there to be a feminine presence after not being one since the death of his mom) this would just be so overwhelming for him and would mean a lot to them both 😭

And the baby totally loves their grandpapa, I already have this idea in my head where I'm thinking about Kakashi having a child in a canon-compliant setting, where the baby is giggling a lot and Kakashi and Y/N are like 'why is he smiling at nothing' and it's because lil baba Hatake is being visited by his granddaddy that only he can see 😭 you know, because babies can supposedly see ghosts and stuff.

Yesssss absolutely, Sakumo would know exactly how to help and what to say, he just seems so wise and he would never judge her or anything like that.

I just wonder how things would be different for Kakashi if he never died, what kinda person would he be, but I'ma try not to get too caught in the details and just think about the fluff lmao.

Regardless, here we go.

Lily and the Art of Being Sisyphus

Obviously this goes on the top of my list. Not only have I been writing it for ages, but to me it's one of my best written works with the most engaging story and the best characters.

Lily goes through so much development, along with characters like Rabbit, Wizard Lenin, and Wizard Trotsky and there's just so much in there.

It also addresses some of the big themes and questions I really like to ponder while writing.

October

This one's a very strange story but I'm very fond of it. It covers a lot of character development for Tom, again asks some very big questions, lets me get to play in the sci-fi realm that I love, and addresses some of the issues I felt were never really addressed in HP.

Of course, the story's very controversial, but I think if I didn't like it as much as I did I would have stopped years ago.

Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?

I know, I know, I stopped updating. And to me it does rank beneath Lily and October, hence the stopping of updates, but dammit it was a great story.

Mostly I'm very proud of my prose for this one, this was a hard story to write and while I haven't read it in ages I think it stands up well.

The Wasteland

This one started out very strange for me, I didn't really know where to go with it, but to me has morphed into one of the most memorable side fics with characters that stand very well on their own.

I ended up being quite the fan of Indil as a character as well as the One Ring.

Finishing the Hat

I think it says a lot that I've continued this fic despite most of the readers abandoning it when, well, dark shit happens. But again, to me, this is one of the more gripping stories and in terms of the actual plot and the story easily outranks its original story "Minato Namikaze and the Destroyer of Worlds"

My Immortal Lily and the Art of Bringing Me to Life

I had such fun with this one. With both the humor as well as the growing cosmic horror throughout the story. It is hands down one of my favorites.

A Thousand Years of Light Between Us

One of my better one-off one-shots that I still really do like to this day. I'm particularly fond of Sakumo in this and just the dealing of his suicide and think MoD Harry somehow fit into all of that very well.

The Unwinding Golden Thread

One of my shorter stories that I felt said everything it needed to in a very short amount of time and gave for me what I felt was missing from the genre.

Morilden

Describing things from the mermaid's point of view, who has no human references for metaphors, was both very difficult and very rewarding. I am proud that I was able to describe chairs without anything looking like a chair underwater.

The Wonderful World of Fanfiction

I include this mostly as a joke, it's a ridiculous fic, don't read it. But you know what, I took the Q&A format fics and went to 11 with that. At the very least, it's a memorable fic.

Palindrome

Outside of my usual fandoms, but I just really like this one and felt it was a very solid short story.

And since we have to stop somewhere, I'm stopping there, though if readers feel I've forgotten one of my greatest hits (and I really should make a post for that so people can skip to the good stuff) let me know.

You’re in luck because the only Naruto fics I read are Kakashi-centric, lmao. Here are some of my favorites (strap in because this is gonna be long – and I hope you like time travel, because there’s a lot of that here.) Fics are listed in no particular order. 

Just the Usual Habits by Applepie (G / gen / 3.9k words / completed / no warnings)

Sakumo has no idea where all of these habits of Kakashi's are coming from. In which five-year-old Kakashi forgets the existence of his left eye, loses his ability to lie believably, and is a little too knowledgeable about the Birds and Bees. Still, no matter what oddities went on in Kakashi's head, one thing is certain – the boy will always love his father, through thick and thin.

Nukenin by WhisperingDarkness (T / gen / 17k words / completed / no warnings)

In the sealed scroll he finds a Bingo Book – his own page marking him as an S-class nukenin with flee-on-sight orders.

“Ok. That is definitely different.”

In his head he blames Naruto – even if his number one unpredictable student had been nowhere near him on this mission. When things go this stupidly impossibly wrong it must somehow be the future Hokage’s fault.

After an unexpected turn on a mission with Team Seven, Kakashi Hatake wakes up in the past, trapped in the body of his thirteen-year-old self. Obito didn't push Kakashi out of the way during the Battle at Kannabi Bridge. This one change eventually leads to Godaime Naruto being sent back in time with the leader of the Akatsuki- Kakashi. Wave changed a lot about Team 7, but not enough to make them entirely functional. Also someone should have really reminded Kakashi to pay attention to that tiny part of his genius brain that recognises random patterns, before he called a rest stop on the way home on top of an old, decayed Uzushio travel seal with an over-chakra-charged Uzumaki.

And he thought the month of the Wave mission was long, now he's stuck with the team, in a place he never expected to have anything to do with, with no way back.

Maybe he should have paid more attention to history, or stayed in the academy long enough to have history classes.

A Kiri nin gets trapped in a cave with a Konoha nin near Kannabi bridge. Some things are inevitable.
