Summary:
Within the sanctuary of the Student Council's room, Yuki’s curse (triggered by a pesky cold) becomes a blessing in disguise.
At long last, here is the fic I wrote for @yukizine! 💜🐀 They're having leftover sales atm, so make sure to take a look if you missed out!
(The wonderful @/armaturewires was in charge of illustrating this fic! I'll be adding a link to her piece once she posts it.)
Hope you enjoy this little sickfic + Student Council shenanigans! 😊

Hmm...how about a tickle fight between Nao and Yuki? Like, Nao decides to take his rival down and then Yuki, having had experience with winning against Kyo, takes him out? I wanna know Nao's tickle spot!
Headcanon to Dabbles Event: CLOSED!
Ooo, Fruits Basket! Not gonna lie, I had to look up who Nao was for this dkaljrkjeajkrekjkrja This is super cute! I hope you like it anon!
“That is it! You’re going down!” Nao declared, running forward towards the unsuspecting Yuki. Within seconds, he had his arms tightly around the taller boy’s waist, fingers digging into his lower ribs. “Take this!”
“Geah! Nahahao! Whahhahat’s wrohohohng?” Yuki yelped, soft giggles already bubbling out his throat from the surprise attack. Around them, the rest of the student council paid them no mind, used to the antics.
“What do you mean what’s wrong? Weren’t you paying attention?” Nao growled, irritated that his attack seemed to do so little. He pressed a tad firmer into Yuki’s sides, hoping for a better result. “This is your problem, Yuki! You space out so easily!”
The pressure did the opposite effect Nao was looking for. Yuki winced at the ache starting to build beneath the ticklish feeling. “Ahheha-Ow! Naahhao, that huhuhrts!” He reached out and snatched the other’s wrists, gently pulling them off. “You're not even tickling anymore. It’s too harsh.”
“Sorry.” Nao muttered, clearly embarrassed. Yuki bit down a sigh. Really, this moment brought him back to the first time he and Kyo got into tickle fights. The cat was always way too aggressive until Yuki showed him how to do it.
Now that he thought about it…
“It’s fine, you're forgiven.” Yuki bit down a smirk as he raised a hand, resting it on Nao’s shoulder. “If you're going to use pressure, perhaps try squeezing? It works something like…” He quickly shot his hand to the back of Nao’s neck, gently squeezing the muscles there.
Nao squawked, instantly scrunching up. “Gah! Yuhuhuhuhuki! The hehehehell, dohoohohn’t you dahhahahare!” His threats were mixed with giggles as the student council president continued to squeeze his neck, deeply amused as Nao started to slide down towards the floor. “Yohoohoohoohu jeheheheherk!”
“What, I’m just giving a demonstration.” Yuki pulled his hand away just as Nao hit the deck, curling up slightly as he gasped for breath. “See? That’s more effective, no?”
“I suppose it was, Yun-Yun.” Two hands pinched beneath his ribs, making the silver haired teen yelp. Kakeru’s voice was inches from his ear, filled with mischief. “Mind if I give your lesson a review?”
By his feet, Nao’s laughter renewed as Kimi attacked his neck, giggling about the new found tickle spot. Machi had snuck away, leaving the rest to their game.
Seems like he opened a can of worms.
Oh dear.
I hope this was good!

What do you think interaction between kimi,machi,kakeru with akito would be like?just them randomly meeting outside not becuz of yuki or anything
Hmm, it depends on when they meet her, like which time's Akito. Old Akito (the god) or new Akito (after her change) so i will write both.
Kakeru-Akito;
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- Kakeru's character is more like Ayame (and Kyo) so because of his loud personality, (old)Akito would mostly ignore him, even Kakeru tried to talk with her.
- (New) Akito wouldnt really ignore him but time to time, she would feel awkward around him, wouldnt know how to handle him but maybe eventually, she will get to used to him more.
Kimi-Akito;
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- Kimi is feminine girl who likes to act flirty, she could try to flirt with Akito since she likes rich people and (old) Akito would dislike her a lot.
- (New) Akito may not dislike her but wouldnt really close with her either, probably.
Naohito-Akito;
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- They are both serious type, they wouldnt have problem with each others.
- Same, they wouldnt have much problem but maybe they could be closer, maybe.
Machi-Akito;
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- Both Machi and (old)Akito ignore unnecessary interactions so they would ignore each others as possible as they can.
- (New) Akito is like newborn baby, she is like new to world so she could be in a sitution where she needs help and Machi pay attention to people and could help her so they could be friends, close friends maybe, not sure.
(I couldnt find better pictures but anyway, thats it.)

The thing about Motoko is, her story could have had potential. I can’t see any need to give the school bully a POV and a redemption arc, but if one wanted to do it, there were better ways.
In principle, it’s an interesting idea to have a character who starts off as an obsessive bully, but is redeemed by wanting to live up to her crush on someone who’s pure and high-minded; especially as that crush never goes anywhere. And it would be really interesting to subvert the trope of the rival/bully in shoujo manga by depicting the development of a different kind of relationship, especially since she isn’t really a romantic contender or rival in any sense, and I do enjoy watching the development of Yuki’s interactions with people outside his immediate friend circle (although I do think it’s weird to show us Yuki interacting normally and kindly with someone who stalks him... but it’s not out of character and could maaaybe have led to meaningful development, if he’d learned to establish boundaries and the fanclub girls had learned to respect them). This is all hypothetical.
But the Motoko story just doesn’t work, because her character arc ends up being centred around ‘romance’ when there’s really nothing romantic about it, and there’s no real character growth. She starts off obsessively interested in a younger schoolmate, stalks him and bullies his friends through two years of high school, and generally behaves in a way that’s very creepy and inappropriate... but there’s no real redemption. We see her start to acknowledge that Yuki’s friendships helped him find confidence, and some signs of her being happy for his development, but then we go straight from that to her stalking Yuki and bullying Machi. We see her ‘confess’ her feelings, in what could have been a reasonably healthy way of facing up to and moving on from a crush, but then we cut to her stalking Yuki again, in a scene that’s framed in a weirdly romantic way. There’s no development or progression in her character in the slightest. (And doesn’t she bring up her daughter to stalk Sohma men as well?)
Also, there’s a huge difference between ‘I’m going to tell you my feelings, but I don’t want you to feel obliged to respond because I don’t want my feelings to be a burden’ and ‘I don’t need a response because I don’t care about your feelings, I will stalk you either way’ and, frankly, Takaya conflates the two really badly. Even the former can be extremely disingenuous and a violation of boundaries, something which is often glossed over in shoujo manga, but the latter is straight up harassment.
The thing is, I do appreciate the fact that Takaya tries to subvert the passive heroine vs bold rival storyline, by giving the ‘rival’-coded character an arc of her own. I appreciate Takaya’s attempt to show us a ‘rival’s’ crush that goes in a different direction than her being rejected and thereby punished for her sins. I think we’ve had quite enough of the ‘helpless heroine doesn’t press her suit but still wins over romantically forward rival’ trope, and I respect Takaya's refusal to play along with that (and it’s subverted in a hundred other ways... Tohru and Motoko were never romantic rivals in the first place, Tohru and Yuki have a platonic relationship, Tohru does confess her own feelings to Kyo, Yuki isn’t ‘deceived’ by Motoko’s romantic wiles, etc.) Fruits Basket presents all its women characters as so much more than just romantic rivals to each other, and I love that. (I actually think Kimi is a much better subversion of the rival trope, and it’s tragic that we never got to see her and Yuki interact more.)
But Motoko, as a character, is simply not worthy of that treatment. Our objection to her is not that she’s romantically forward, it’s that she’s a stalker and a bully all through the story. So that simply isn’t a meaningful lens to view her story through. She does deserve to be held accountable for her behaviour. And the message about women being more than romantic rivals rings a little hollow when the ending still centres them finding romance over any other form of character growth or fulfilment. Besides, Fruits Basket does not have the space to give every character a meaningful arc. (If you were going to pick a side character to give that space to, or another friend for Yuki, you could pick Kimi instead of Motoko! Or just narrow the focus to the main characters, and give them the development they deserve.)
And then there’s Nao, who’s been abrasive and unpleasant all through the story, in a way that both Yuki and Machi have found distressing at different points. We never see him face up to the fact that he was decidedly insensitive to his fellow councillors, who were struggling with trauma and mental illness; instead, we get Takaya’s clumsy attempt to make him sympathetic by framing his behaviour as romantic jealousy of Yuki. Which is completely unjustified, since Yuki is being stalked against his will, and in any case this wouldn’t justify Nao’s treatment of Machi and everyone else in the slightest. I don’t think Nao needed an arc of his own (I’d much rather Machi and Momiji and Rin got that space) but if you had to do it, it could have been done better.
I think you’re always on a slippery slope when you give POV scenes to bullies and abusers, because it takes a lot of nuance to show us their point of view without trivialising the harm that they’ve done. This is something Takaya worked hard to do with Akito, and she succeeded pretty well, although it isn’t perfect. But the Motoko arc is much more problematic, since it ends up romanticising Motoko’s bullying by framing it as romantic.
The thing is, not every character has to be redeemed; it’s OK to acknowledge at the end of the story that some people are bullies, some people are insensitive and unpleasant, and they don’t necessarily learn better. It could actually have been a very important milestone in the main characters’ development to acknowledge that not everyone is redeemable, and not everything can be fixed. But if you want to go the route of showing us that everyone has capacity for kindness and growth and redemption, you should do it by depicting actual signs of improvement, not trivialising or romanticising their harmful behaviour.
