I was just watching the episode of ausntm c7 where Rachel was (finally) eliminated and it annoyed that they still considered keeping her because of her potential basically trying to give her the Saliesha excuse.
Yeah, Rachel is easily one of the most annoying examples of potential over performance. As much as I love AusNTM, I do think it suffers from the problem of choosing the girls who look like models over those who actually turn it out. It probably makes it more realistic, but is still a bit frustrating to watch, especially when girls go so far based on so little.

While Saleisha really had no business winning the cycle, I think that she gets a lot more hate from the fans than she deserves. Her portfolio wasn’t nearly as bad as people make it out to be. She was very inconsistent in the first half of the competition (including delivering one of the worst shots in ANTM history) and she had more low points than high ones. However, her track record in China was actually pretty great and I was glad to see progression in her photos. Even though she was super commercial, the last few photoshoots showed that she could have some edge as well. Saleisha was definitely hindered by her abysmal makeover though. The bowl cut didn’t frame her face well whatsoever. She was also one of the better options this cycle for being a spokesmodel and she delivered decent commercials. Saleisha also had my favorite walk, and honestly I’d put her in my Top 10 walkers ever on the show. All in all, Saleisha might have been more well-rounded than some of her competitors, but her portfolio was significantly weaker than the girls ranked above her and that’s the biggest thing I consider when putting together my end of cycle ranking. I was pretty ambivalent on Saleisha as a person. I appreciated her determination, and other than a few specific instances she seemed generally nice to the rest of the girls. She was guilty of having some unpleasant moments as well. Early on, she seemed super arrogant and a major know-it-all due to her past experience but that seemed to go away after her shitty tulip photo fiasco and subsequent bottom 2 placement. I was also annoyed with her refusing to share her enormous bed with anyone else in China. Saleisha’s win was a letdown after a string of fantastic champs, but she’s not my least favorite winner ever.

Just off the top of your head, who are a couple of models whose runway walks you loved?
Katarzyna (basically the perfect runway walker outside of that one time she failed, the best walker of the series in my opinion), Jade (average to strong walk that was really brought up with her flair), Joanie (started rough, but ended as one of the best walkers there), Danielle (C6, just a strong walk overall), Saleisha (her runway is actually one of the best in the series in my opinion), Kayla (she was pretty solid all around), and Chelsey (she choked a bit on the final runway, but in general her walk was fierce as hell). Those are the ones that come to mind first.

"So Kyla comes in as the second choice, which seems fitting given how she was no one’s first choice for winner." THE SHADE! This had me dying! I ain't even mad at you though, Kyla didn't deserve shit, it's the truth. Kyla's a cool girl and people can pretend that she improved enough to earn her win but she's lackluster. I honestly think Saleisha was a slightly better winner and I can't stand tootie so that says a lot.
Yeah, I was pretty proud of that comment. Totally didn’t take me an hour to come up with at all. But nah, I totally feel that is why Kyla’s win seems so controversial. After India and Nyle, I think I got used to the person with the positive, glowing edit to win it all, so Kyla never even seemed like an option.
Saying Saleisha is better is something I firmly must disagree with. Neither had great performances on the show, but Kyla at least had some stellar shots. Her horror and raw photos are both gorgeous, whereas Saleisha was average at her peaks. Still, I agree she is a lacklustre winner. I thought after a few days I would sort of come to realise it was the right decision, but it still seems ridiculous that Kyla beat Jeana and Khrys.

FINAL RUNWAY
1. Saleisha
I honestly believe Saleisha is the best runway model of the cycle and it’s not really much of a contest. Her walk is distinctive and fluid. She destroyed Chantal in this final fashion show. She was super confident and her poses at the end of the runway were all amazing.
2. Chantal
Chantal’s walk was alright. She was a bit too stiff and her strides weren’t long enough. It really looked like she was holding her breath the entire time too. The clothes looked absolutely amazing on her though. I think she handled the tripping stilt performer the best she could and I was impressed that she recovered relatively quickly.
Final Deliberation
Even with Saleisha’s dominant performance in the final fashion show, I would’ve probably picked Chantal to win out of the final 2. Chantal’s portfolio was pretty strong/consistent and she had both commercial and high fashion potential. I think that she was a bit too amateur and pose-y on set at times though. Saleisha was a good model overall, but her portfolio wasn’t exactly finalist worthy. She definitely gave her best shots at the end of the competition which helped her a lot. Her walk was fierce too!
I wasn’t really invested in either of the final 2 to be honest.
