Speaking as a former salesperson who just experienced this from a current salesperson: If you can’t convince your potential client to buy your Thing™, even if you spent a lot of time and are on commission and they seemed like they were going to buy your Thing™, ending your sales pitch with some variation of, “Well I hope you enjoy (negative consequence of not buying my Thing™)” as a parting shot doesn’t win you any points. You’re actually convincing the person they made the right decision refusing, because nobody trusts a salesperson who is ungracious and rude when they don’t get their way.

Tales from the liquor store!
This little old lady is telling me a story about her buying a car.
The salesman are running her in circles and finally she snaps at him and goes. “I want this car, I want to pay the base price, I don’t want any add-ons.”
And the salesperson goes. “Ma’am may I speak to your husband? This is a very serious financial decision.”
This little old lady doesn’t have a husband. She tells the salesperson, “My husband is locked in the bedroom for being a very bad boy and won’t be out for awhile.” AND HANGS UP.
Oh god I wish I was there to see the salespersons face.

Upselling is garbage. It's capitalistic prostitution. But upselling to poor people is just fucking cruel. "Hey, let me remind you that you came in here with limited funds by offering you a product that you definitely didn't plan to buy, can't afford, which even if you bought i wouldn't personally gain from, and you'll feel guilty that you're so poor no matter what as an end result." No joke the store i just got out of she made a joke how she was trying to take my every last penny. I was thinking in which world is that funny to poor people?! Kind of like insurance people, I don't like sales people usually either. Especially if they're commission based. Oh my God you get the worst people then. You can't believe a single fucking word they say.
