Ronan was perched on the curb outside the café, sandwich devoured after a day working at the farm, his eyes on the large raven picking at trash in the alley a few feet away. "Leave it," he said sharply when she went for a piece of discarded plastic, and she shot a baleful look at him that he returned in equal measure. Garbage was one of Chainsaw's fondest obsessions, perhaps most because it was forbidden. He tossed her a soggy chip from the wrapping next to him, and she croaked grumpily at him as she hopped closer to get it.
The hooks and curves of the intricate black tattoo on his back peered out from beneath the edges of a black tank top. He was dirty and sweaty and tired and happier than he'd been shoved into a tie at fancy prep school, despite being trapped here. He'd walked into the town not knowing he wouldn't be able to leave, and with the sun beginning to set over Sallow Hills, gilding everything in warm, dreamy light, he allowed himself to miss home a little bit. Gwenllian Farms wasn't the Barnes, but there were parts of this town that felt almost eerily like Henrietta, like Cabeswater.
Kerah! Chainsaw's name for him was a warning as she flapped up onto his shoulder, and he reached up to gently stroke her beak. Both boy and raven turned a suspicious look on the person approaching.

There was a time where Dina had sworn that nothing like this would ever happen. She had looked at her newborn child and promised that no harm would come to him. That he would never know the life she had know, and maybe even more importantly, he would never know the life Ellie had known. Dina had looked down at her son, and promised him a life of safety and love.
Now, he was gone.
She had spent the past two days looking tirelessly for him. It barely mattered to her that she was lost in a place she’d never been in before. It barely mattered to her that there were cars with gas, engines running, electricity that didn’t come from generators. She noticed it, of course she did, but it didn’t matter. She could process all of that when JJ was safe in her arms.
Dina sank down in the chair and closed her eyes. She wasn’t going to cry again. She wasn’t sure that she could, or if all the water in her body had already evaporated. It wasn’t that the people at the b&b weren’t nice, they were overly so, but none of them had seen JJ, and Dina was just as lost as she’d been before.
She drew a deep breath before pulling her legs up onto the chair in front of her, wrapping her arms around her. She wished Ellie was here. If anyone could turn the world upside down for their son, it would be her.
“Where are you?” she muttered to herself, running a hand through her hair as she opened her eyes back up and looked down at the newspaper in front of her. There was a slim chance that there’d be anything there, but she was running out of options.

Steve had run the borders of Sallow Hills enough times to know where the barrier was and how close he could get to it before he met resistance. At first, he'd been like a tiger pacing a cage, looking for weaknesses or ways out, or trying to create them by throwing himself or other things (RIP to that first motorcycle) at it. These days, he didn't bother to get close or test it for holes because the truth was he didn't want to leave. He missed his friends, but the people he'd come to think of as his family were on this side of the barrier. He'd much rather be stuck in town with them than stuck out there without them.
He still ran loops around the town, but it was purely for its own sake now. If he didn't work off some of that energy in the mornings, he'd be climbing the walls all day and getting in Bucky's hair while they slowly worked on restoring their house. Steve had been banned from touching anything that resembled plumbing, but he had a new project in painting their ceilings to look like starry skies. They both loved the ones Rey had stuck on the ceiling and had decided to make them permanent, one sky with their own constellations and one with Finn and Rey's.
He'd slowed to a walk to cool down, his gaze on the empty space where he knew the barrier was, even if it wasn't visible. He was still curious about something that even gods and magic users couldn't get through, something that didn't resemble any magic or technology he'd ever seen, but he'd accepted that was well above his pay grade. He didn't really care what it was. It had given him the only peace he'd had in a century, a husband he adored, and two kids from another universe he'd have probably never met otherwise.

There was a lot about this month for him to enjoy, for him to support others through. Most of his life, he’d had to be quiet about who he loved for their safety. His life had changed dramatically since he’d come to Sallow Hills. He was married, had kids claimed as theirs, had built an entire life around that love. It really was little wonder he took to Pride with something akin to gusto.
Favorite jeans and boots on, he’d put on his newest shirt to head to the White Rabbit. Walking in, he couldn’t help but smile at the sight of the place and reminded himself to give Kate all the kudos in the world. When someone quietly came up and asked him if his shirt was true, he couldn’t help but smile softly and open up his arms. “Free dad hugs should never be a lie,” he murmured easily.

~Open Starter - Pride Bonfire~
What had been originally been intended as something to amuse Jack had slowly taken on an entirely different life. As grumpy as they came across in the town’s chat, there was a part of them that was quietly, secretly pleased at being treated simply as a person having their magic enjoyed. It wasn’t something they experienced often, but then, they knew this town was something... different.
Their blatantly ridiculous fire was in front of them and they studied it, considering how the wanted the rainbow to look. A part of them was missing home and the bridge there and it certainly guided their heart as they slowly started to change it from its brilliant grin to something festive for the month. “What do you think?”

There were moments when Penelope thought she and Baz had been absolutely out of their minds to run for mayor. They had no previous political experience to draw from, and they couldn't exactly put solving magickal mysteries, revealing the Mage's crimes, and aiding in the defeat of the Insidious Humdrum on their resumes. But experience or not, they were both composed and capable, and she thought they'd been holding their own rather well so far. What she lacked in presence, Baz more than made up for. Honestly, he was born for politics, and Penny had a kind of no-nonsense earnestness that people seemed to be responding to. She was probably too honest for the job, but anyone who had motive to hide information probably wasn't someone they needed in charge.
The research opportunities had been inexhaustible as well. She'd already been taking classes in political science, and she'd been buried in books and articles on political theory and magickal communities for weeks now, her chalkboard walls so full that only termites could read her handwriting at this point. As long as she looked at it that way--as a learning experience, regardless of the outcome--then it wasn't so alarming. If they didn't win, they'd have all kinds of ideas for how to run their campaign next time. The candidates had set up tables in the park to talk about their platforms and to hand out flyers and buttons. It was weird to be wearing a t-shirt with hers and Baz's last names on, but apparently this was where her life had taken her. She smiled at the next person who approached, offering a flyer. "Hi! Would you like to hear more about the campaign?"

It starts with a clicking sound.
The first time she heard it it’d been in a nightmare of a world that had ended, causing her to wake up in a panic. The second time she heard it was the morning after while making breakfast, and Ellie swore she’d been making it up. The third time she just figured it was one of JJ’s toys. But when it kept happening over and over again, Ellie began to worry.
She’s no stranger to anxiety and paranoia, and she knows that sometimes she’ll hear and see shit that isn’t there because of them. And she knows that this clicking came from her nightmare and it’s nothing more than that, but Ellie humors herself and starts looking into it anyway.
Because every time she hears it, her body freezes as dread takes over. It’s like a memory, only it’s of a feeling rather than anything physical. And it was making her question just how safe this place was.
She’d been given the whole spiel about the outskirts when she’d first decided to move here. She’d been warned against spending too much time here, especially at night, and it’s not that Ellie ignored their warnings at all. She listened and still chose to build a home for herself and JJ on the outskirts of town.
Ellie Williams is more than capable of protecting them both from whatever tends to lurk in the shadows. And setting up booby traps is a skill she excels at. Ellie had been at it for hours now, checking the perimeter around her home for anything that seemed out of the ordinary. She’d prepped herself with her bow and arrow, archery and close combat always being her strong suits, along with some punji sticks she’d hidden underneath some leaves.
Tumblr media
There’s a crunch of leaves and Ellie is quick to stop them in their path, because whether they were friendly or not they were definitely just a person and not whatever else is stalking these woods.
“I wouldn’t step there if I were you.”

Okay, admittedly, Midna didn’t entirely know what she was doing at first. While ruling a realm and being mayor had a lot of overlap in duties and expertise, they surely had their differences. For one, she had to teach herself how to campaign. A whole complicated mess of papers and advertising and public appearances.
Midna wasn’t dumb enough to go in completely blind. She spent a good few days researching it all in the library and via her new laptop. After a while, she felt as if she had a decent footing on the concept, so she decided that she would indeed run for office. She felt like she could do some good for this dreary place, and if worse came to worse, she would have had a fun time along the way.
That's how Midna found herself campaigning in the park under a tiny pop up tent to block off the sun. It was a nice day, which hopefully meant lots of walkers to hand fliers to.
As someone approached, Midna tucked her shoulders back, threw on a pretty smile, and held out a little metal circle in their direction, “Morning! Do you have a second to talk about our mayoral campaign? Want a button?”

It had been quiet around the hospital lately, which was always a good sign because it meant no recent catastrophes. He'd had a little over a year to adjust to that relative peace, but it wasn't long enough that he still didn't find it strange sometimes. Castiel liked the work though. It was completely unlike anything he'd ever done, healing people instead of fighting wars. He didn't fully believe that he'd be allowed to go on healing instead of fighting forever, but even a little bit of peace was more than he'd ever had.
He turned at the sound of a voice saying doctor, but only because he was the only one close enough to answer it. He wasn’t a doctor. He didn’t even have any formal medical training, although he’d picked up a lot in the past months and learned more through study. Where that failed him, there was grace. He preferred to rely on it only if his patients were already aware of magic or the situation was dire, and he let them draw their own conclusions about the source of his power. "No, I’m sorry. Perhaps I can help you though?"

It was strange, to be in a world where he didn't have to rule, to be beholden to anything except himself and laws that he didn't have to enforce. He'd found his job as a firefighter and, while it was mostly quiet, it helped him feel somewhat useful. He wandered, exploring the area, getting adapted to living somewhere magic and magical creatures lived openly.
Today, he sat outside at the cafe, watching the people and continuing to marvel. Arthur was absolute rubbish at taking care of himself, and the women who ran the BNB were making sure he learned how to do things for himself before he moved into a place of his own. Part of it was the technology, the other part of it being raised royal. Sipping on his coffee, he blinked when a person stood in front of him and blocked the world. "I beg your pardon," he raised his head to catch their eyes.

Rhiannon placed the small flyer in her window, tucked in between the window panes. Having sales, classes, anything she would need to advertise for was far too much work for her. People knew exactly what the Cauldron was, the people that frequented her shop knew exactly what to expect. However something like this… she could see it being important to Tal. It was why Rhiannon had been saving this particular idea until pride month, knowing it would gain more traction with townspeople that would be interested in ‘passing’.
To most, it was a ‘free’ class on glamours. Rhiannon did ask for payment, but nothing humans would see as important. A physical piece of their home, their childhood. Small things necessary for performing the glamours she taught.
Footsteps behind her slowed, then stilled. Rhiannon turned, judging the newcomer. As if they could sneak up on a Sídhe. “Are you going to stare or are you interested in the glamour class?”

plot drop 06.3: a killer amongst us
More bodies are being identified, people have begun to fear what caused them all.  Those already suspicious of Armes E. Sallow have used this to their advantage - calling her into question, pushing against the Research Center, and even some archival files going missing.
A month has passed since our last plot update, but the town has not stopped in that time.
this plot drop affects the town starting today, march 18th, and will remain unchanged until part two of the plot drop arrives.
starter & plot call rules do not restart and continue as explained in our rules
follow plotdrop006 closely for new updates and parts to come.  keep an eye on the town news forums for tidbits teased out between official drops
transcript from Anonymous Radio Host - february 17
The air was a crisp autumn chill when they walked by the Radio Station late last night.  I was up, talking with Station Management, and the world seemed to go quiet as they walked by.  There was an unthinkable power in the way they moved, in the way they just walked towards the fence and let themselves into town.  Station Management was not there when I turned back around - they too felt the power in this person. And I must say: not much scares Station Management.
the sallow times - february 19
On the Case
According to Canary, Cardinal, and Cockatoo, masked vigilantes have made an appearance offering their help in tracking down the source of these murders.  Batwoman, Robin, Batgirl, and a team of detectives they’ve collected are on the case, and it’s encouraged that you assist them in any way that you can.  Batwoman has made contact with one of our editors here, assuring us that news of what they find will come to us first so we can deliver it to the people of Sallow Hills.  Ensure you are subscribed to our forum for quicker updates.
the sallow times - february 22
Identities Discovered.
Cardinal has reached out to the Sallow Times with more identities of bodies that they have made.   While all the bodies have been discovered and time and cause of death are nearly complete, the identity of many bodies is still yet to be named.
Today, the Cardinal delivers us with three more names.  Jamie Lannister, Armitage Hux, and Negan Smith.  Once again they are asking those who have the mental capacity to, come down and see if they can identify any of the bodies.
transcript from Anonymous Radio Host - february 28
The month of love and hate is coming to a close, and if there are any other special people you would like to proclaim your feelings to, please ensure to.  The proper procedure is to stand on your roof at 10:02 at night and simply announce their name.  Listen for your name, and you might have a new lover.  Or enemy.
In other news, the mysterious powerful person has begun making a name for themselves in town.  I was told by one of you dear lovely listeners that they went straight to the archives and neither they nor Armes were seen for days.   How peculiar, as it is not hermit week.
the sallow times - march 2
The Legacy Continues
In a shocking turn of events that have turned many for a loop, a person has come into town proclaiming to be Armes E. Sallow’s child.  Wynn Sallow was first spotted in town on the night of February 16th by the anonymous radio host.  The Host declined to comment, stating that Station Management (not to be confused with the station owner, and in fact, we have no records of a Station Management) would not be happy if they did.
Wynn was not seen by many for the first week that they were here, though recently both they and Armes were spotted in town, talking quietly amongst themselves.  This, along with Armes E. Sallow’s lack of comment otherwise, has led many of us here to believe that this truly is the child of Sallow.  Mr. Davies, a local in town that many of you may know, did comment for us.
“I ain’t never knew that Armes had a kid.  Can’t even think of when she would’ve.  There were a couple months in the late eighties when she was just starting to set up the Research Center that she wasn’t seen a lot, so maybe it happened around then?”
the sallow times - March 10
The Bat Breaks News
We have received news from our group of detectives that have been investigating the bodies around town.  It has been decided that there is not a shadow of a doubt that we are dealing with a serial killer.   The detectives ask that we do not panic, as that may only make things worse in the long run.  They were kind enough to deliver to us the facts that they know.
It appears that there is a very clear pattern to the killings.  Every year there is a single week in which one person is killed every day of that week.  The month has varied every year, though they posit that this year we may have seen a repeat month.  There have been no bodies found from this year, though Batwoman believes that the identifying of these bodies so early on in the year may have helped stave off more occurring.  As of now, they have been calling the culprit the Advent Killer.
They are not sure who is responsible, or if it is one person or multiple.  It is asked that you bring any information you might have to the Newspaper, and we will deliver it to our masked detectives.
the sallow times - march 16
Town Hall Recap
Last night there was a town hall meeting that multiple of our reporters went to.  With the reveal of a serial killer likely being responsible for many deaths in Sallow Hills, many within town have been calling for answers.  They have not been looking to the Mayor, however, but to Armes E. Sallow herself.
While Sallow Hills is a proud democracy with a mayor, it has always been apparent that Ms. Sallow has had much power in this town, with her command of the archives and of the Research Center.  It is due to these two commands that she has, that many have been calling for her removal, or for her to have further oversight.  Finn, mayoral assistant, commented, “It’s not about her.  It’s about the fact that there’s someone out there killing people, and out of everyone, she was the most likely person to be able to realize what is happening.  I gave her missing person reports, she records everyone coming into town, and we don’t even know what they’re researching half the time.”
There were two loud voices at Town Hall last night.  Florence Tenners, vocal member of the neighborhood watch and ex-military personnel, was vocal for more oversight.  He sighted his experience with known Sallow Hills killer, Victor Zsasz, and proposed that there needs to be a stronger hand in Sallow Hills to prevent these things from happening.
Margaret James, foreman of the Port and head of import and export in town, proposed that the power Armes controls should not fall to one person, but rather a company of people.  She also went on a tangent about profits, and how this disarray occurring in Sallow Hills currently only proves that thinking “solely about everyone, without thinking of individuals, leads to destruction.”  After this, Mr. Davies had to be removed for the comments he made after this.
However, the real star of the show seemed to be Wynn Sallow.  At the end of the night, they stepped up to say their own peace.  They delivered a moving story about how being given up for adoption had lead to them being curious of this town, though that they stood with no allegiance to their mother.  They claimed that the real problem was a lack of honesty from the departments that their mother ran, and that they agreed with Tenners and James both, however not in the means that they proposed to fix it.

The morning after a change had always been the worst time for Harley. He didn’t wish to be seen or forced to interact with anyone. This morning in particular he found himself in an alley in the middle of town, itching from the dirt in his hair and the soreness in his joints. His head pounding, almost like the worst hangover Harley had ever experienced. Luckily, he’d remembered this time to book the day after the full moon off from work. To go from being an animal all night to looking after animals all day was too much for him to deal with.
Since arriving in Sallow Hills, Harley had mostly kept to himself, this town confused him, a  place where fictional, supernatural and average humans all mixed as if nothing was going on. At least he didn’t have to hide his ‘affliction’ too much from others because everyone already knew.
Walking down the town was starting to come alive, it was early morning, shop owners were starting to open up, and the first patrons of the day were roaming the town. “Fuck, i’m gonna need some asprin or something for this” Holding his hand on his head, he felt a thump on his chest and got knocked back a couple steps. After steadying himself he realised he must’ve walked into someone. “Oh, are you alright? Sorry I've had a rough night.”

Alec had last remembered marrying Magnus and heading home to their apartment for the day. Everything went black for him and he woke up to a blinding light streaming in through his window. “What the hell?” He mumbled as he noticed his outfit was the same as his dream which he thought was weird.
The male rubbed his face before getting up and heading out of the door. Maybe everything had been a dream? A very vivid dream. The only thing on his mind at the moment was finding Magnus wherever he may be. He didn’t even realize he was so caught up in his thoughts he accidentally bumped into someone. “Shit, sorry. Are you okay?” He asks before turning around to see if they needed help.

She barely managed to keep herself from hissing as she was bumped into fully, instead letting a soft smile fill her face. She’d spent too much time in the cold shallows that morning, tucked carefully away under the docks as she listened. It felt like the cold had seeped into her very bones. It was the part of human living she hated, how cold the wet felt in the open air.
“I’m just going into the Prince for a drink, if you’d care to join.” She knew that it wasn’t a place anyone expected her to frequent just by looking at her. It made her all that happier to know she was the one people should fear if they tested her patience too much. Without waiting, she simply turned to step into the space with a swing of vivid hair.

It had taken a little while, but Tia thought she had mostly managed to shake off the holiday melancholy. Her gift to herself, for a few weeks at least, was to take it easy and not work both jobs every day. She didn’t do idle well, though, but it meant she got time to just cook for the fun of it. Juggling a few bags of groceries on her hips, she sang softly to herself while she walked.
A thought occurred to her and she stopped for a moment. “Who in the world am I gonna cook for?” She could only eat so much by herself, and she always preferred to cook for more than just one person. Having spent so long doing exactly that in her time here hadn’t been fun, but she’d gotten very good at measuring things out for one. There were bonuses, she supposed.
