A WIP that I’m tooootally gonna finish, guys.
I got into Star Trek in the fall and I’m obsessed. (Particularly with Spock ^^ <3)
Now that I’m a fan of both Star Trek and Star Wars, I love being able to mess with both sides. Live long and may the Force be with you! 🖖

Fun funky sci-fi concept I just had:
Androids can't comprehend/don't believe in randomness.
Why? because...
The computers we currently have can't be random, we can make algorithms that appear random, but solid intentional math is still behind the creation of the randomness algorithm, and thus whatever "random" result it picks.
So if sentient computers were aware of the algorithm they use to "pick a random number", they would not consider the number they picked random, they can see the intentional math behind the number picked.
And in most sci-fi settings, androids are created by humans on purpose. They are made from blue-prints and hand selected materials, that can only come together to form life because of thousands of years of technological progress. There are no unplanned pregnancies that make androids.
And so when humans give them examples of random, unintentional creation of life, like unplanned pregnancies, they dismiss it with "that wasn't random, you just can't see the logic behind it."
Basically: androids believe in some kind of Intelligent Design by default. So rather than ending up with a sci-fi where people have transcended religion, you'd end up with the opposite:
Thousands of a new people who are certain that the universe must be intentional, and looking to find what that intention belongs to.

Jesus said, “You are the salt of the earth. You are the light of the world. Matthew 5: 13, 14
What are we all striving to become? Take a look at what Jesus wants us to be. Jesus said, you are the salt of the earth. Salt softens, preserves, adds flavour and cures. Like salt we can penetrate into the sin ridden world and be a source of healing and comfort and make a difference.
Jesus also tells us that we are the light of the world. We are to shine like stars in the universe. Our world is often dark and we are called to brighten up our spot with the light of God's truth. Live a life according to God's word, without compromising, you will be the salt and light of this dark world.

idk where the idea that hymns should be sung solemnly and slowly came from, but someday I want to participate in singing them with others as they should be sung, as the bops and jams they rightfully are

"Not I," I said, "I love you."
Yet when blood was on your face I knew you not.
"Would you follow me, my child? Even in the dark?"
But when the light blew dim I fled.
You told me of the future, and of a joy to come
You loved me and you taught me
"I know your heart, my child."
When you were weak and weary where was I to comfort?
When you cried out for the Father I hid my face.
I saw you. I saw your eyes and anguish.
O how it pierced me. How could I abandon you?
"Not I," I said, "I love you." But how could it be true?
I turned and left my lover.
Weak and twisted is the heart that claimed to live for you
How can it be, how can I live? I wish to love you.
Yet it is a dead heart that saw your face among the crowd.
A light flew across the distance. On the wings of your suffering.
O how it pierced me. My eyes have opened.
I don't deserve to be here, to sing and see the dawn
Lord let me live and love you
How I was meant to all along

The Salt and Light Anthology
Tumblr media
Hello everyone! It's time to break the news with an exciting announcement! In 2024 Keepers of the Gate hopes to release a Salt and Light anthology.
This means a compilation of works by (PBS voice) Viewers Like You. Proceeds from the sale of this book will be donated to combat human trafficking.
The theme of the collection will be original fairy tales. The ideal tone of the fairy tales is a late 19th-century Art Noveau style such as that of Andersen, Wilde, Louisa May Alcott, or others that treat fairy tales in a slightly longer-form and more descriptive style than, say, Grimm's. (We are not interested in retellings, we want to hear your original stories! They can still have elements of inspiration from classic fairy tales, of course.) The tragic, beautiful, the strange... stories from the POV of a talking animal or an object... a fairy tale doesn't necessarily even have to have magic! Show us what you have come up with.
Submissions are due by March 1 2024. Please declare your intent to submit work by December 1 2023. (ask box is ok for this.) Stories previously published online or written prior to this time CAN be accepted. Ideal length is 5-12K. Not all submissions may be accepted. Please only submit if you are willing to work with us to edit your writing for the anthology.
Email submissions to [email protected] ! Please put "Fairy Tale" somewhere in the subject line.

Because of you, we have a future. Thank you, Peter Cullen, for your continual, unwavering efforts to imbue the words "strong enough to be gentle" into the spark of Optimus Prime <3 This is my artwork for the "To Be Gentle Zine," hosted by @allsparkzines ! I was so thrilled to be able to contribute! ❤️‍🔥Tremendous thank you to the mods who set this up. This was an honor. Tumblr wrecked the quality a bit, as it does, but you can see the optimal ;) version in the zine, which will be releasing digitally soon!

“You're afraid, aren't you? You’re afraid she’ll appear to one of them and tell them the truth about you.” “She wouldn’t do that.” “Wouldn’t she?”

“Willie, you’re a coward. You always will be.”
“You’re scared too.”
“Not of death.” “You’re scared of HER.”

Introducing the Jekyll Estate staff
|
|
- Mrs. Jessica ‘Harpy’ Harpshire is Jekyll’s tightly wound and stiff-lipped housekeeper. Hired shortly after Poole, Mrs. Harpshire has been well acquainted with the Jekyll family since Henry’s boyhood. She has seen it all, and subsequently knows how to keep things in order… even without the presence of her beloved husband John. Deemed ‘the Harpy’ by Bradshaw, she is respected and feared by nearly all of the staff (Poole being the only exception).
- Mr. Steven Poole is the eldest and most tenured member of the staff. Poole has performed many roles within the house over his twenty years of service as head butler and valet to Dr. Jekyll and his father. Loyal to a fault, Poole will see to it that his master’s house and reputation is kept in perfect condition, come any trial that may arise.
- Mrs. Lillian Davies is Jekyll’s cook and head laundress. After severely injuring her leg in an east end wash house, Mrs. Davies found herself and her three children in desperate need for work and shelter. Enter Dr. Jekyll. When she is not in the kitchen preparing for lavish dinner parties or ensuring the master does not starve himself to death, Mrs. Davies spends her time instilling her values of hard work and integrity to her children.
- Mr. Niles Bradshaw serves as Jekyll’s footman and unofficial jester (much to everyone’s dismay). Jovial and charismatic, Bradshaw ensures that the house is never entirely quiet. His good looks are readily used to incite the attention of any woman he encounters, but unfortunately for him, never quite seem to catch the eye of the one person he actually wants to notice him…
- Ms. Valentine Davies is the youngest member of the staff at 15 years old, but her age is hardly noticed in the wake of her shining character and determination. After working several years under her mother’s tutorage as a scullery maid, Valentine worked herself through the ranks to become one of Jekyll’s housemaids. Kindhearted and empathic, Valentine is quick to endear herself to nearly everyone she encounters.
- Ms. Emily Waller is Jekyll’s infamously levelheaded chambermaid. Having come from several houses prior to working at No. 28 Leicester Sq, Emily has learned how to thrive in the cutthroat world of service, even if it is to her detriment. She is quiet, wise beyond her years, and knows far more than she would ever dare to say aloud, even to her friend and coworker Valentine.

Marabelle the dwarven paladin finally opens up to her friend the Wizard of Waterdeep, to her great shame...
This took me... way too long. Ironically enough, the painterly style took less time than the cel shading, and I liked doing it more, so I think I might go with that for my graphic novels. And for a comic with no real reference pictures (at least, in my style) for either of these two characters, I'm surprised they didn't completely change over the course of a few panels, lol.
Anyway, this is very silly, and probably a little OOC for Gale, but... it was mostly practice for me, so yeah. There are a couple of panels that I kinda hate, the text bubbles could be arranged better, and the dialog is kinda mid, but most of these are easy to fix with a script (which I didn't have for this, just the basic idea).
Alright, enough of my rambling, time for me to get back to my own stories.

Verse I illustrated for work stuff! Overall I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out--it feels more balanced than it used to be, while still being simple.
