So happy to see “Sweet Magnolias” got renewed for season 3!!! :D My Mom and I both love this show. Glad to see not everything at Netflix is in danger like so many thought after the subscriber loss/stock news last month. Just means their shows have to have better ratings just like the other networks/steamers.
He stirs awake, trying to ignore the ringing in his ears and the too-bright light above him, making him squeeze his eyes further shut. He closes his hand around dirt and grass, the rough edges of pebbles cutting into his palm, his thoughts muddled. What happened?... What was he doing here?... Where was here?
The last thing he remembers is the alarms in the shuttlepod going haywire, Ash shouting over the comms, and the distinct impression that she and the rest of the crew were going to kill him once he got out of this-- field. That was it. An energy field he’d wanted to investigate personally, not wanting to risk the safety of the Bonaventure in case of just such an outcome.
Asa tries to sit up, but finds himself unable to even raise his neck and shoulders, his head thudding back on the ground uselessly. He sees a smear of science division blue out of the corner of his eye moving closer to him, and he turns his head to face them.
Everything in the young captain’s mind comes screeching to a halt.
He recognizes him instantly, of course; he’s seen him in photographs in his father’s quarters for almost as long as he can remember, and both his and his cousins’ stories painted quite a vivid picture of the man.
But now he’s here, right in front of him, close enough to touch, and alive.
“...do you prefer George or Sam, sir?...” his own voice is barely a murmur, and he almost immediately hopes that the older man didn’t hear. He’s not sir, Asa is, strange as it is to come to terms that he outranks his own uncle, and he surely could’ve thought of something better to say to him than that.
There are quite a few landmark anniversaries I'm celebrating this month:
Dec. 2, 1988: The Naked Gun opens
In Dec. 1988, the first of Zucker-Abraham-Zucker's cop spoof was released. Here is my piece I got in 2018. Happy 35 NG!
Dec. 5, 1973: Band on the Run released
In Dec. 1973, Paul McCartney and Wings best album (possibly the best Non-Beatle album he did) was released. Here is my piece I wrote in 2018. Happy 50th BOTR!
Dec. 6, 1968: Beggars Banquet released
In Dec. 1968, the 9th U.S. album from The Rolling Stones. Earlier this year I got to review the Record Store Day reissue of the album. I'd definitely put this up there with Let It Bleed and Exile on Main Street in the pantheon of Classic Stones albums. Happy 55th BB!
Dec. 6, 2013: Inside Llewyn Davis opens
In Dec. 2013, the Coen Brothers' criminally underrated folk musician epic was released. Here is my piece I wrote in 2018. Happy 10 ILD!
Dec. 10, 1993: Wayne's World 2 opens
In Dec. 1993, the sequel to Wayne's World was released! It might not be as loved as the original, but it is better than people think. I wrote about this in 2018 and director Stephen Surjik wrote me back with some thoughts. In 2022, I saw it on the big screen at Nice, a Fest. Happy 30th WW2!
Dec. 10, 2003: Big Fish opens
In Dec. 2003, one of Tim Burton's most underrated movies was released. Taking Burton's visual style and combining it with a family drama with fantasy elements was a gamble that paid off. It's something that feels new each time I've seen it since. Happy 20th Big Fish!
Dec. 11, 1998: Rushmore and A Simple Plan both open
In Dec. 1998, two of my favorite movies from that year opened on the same day. Here is my piece I wrote about Wes Anderson's film and Sam Raimi's film. Happy 25th Rushmore an ASP!
Dec. 12, 1973: The Last Detail opens
In Dec. 1973, Hal Ashby (who was on a roll at the time) had one of his best released. It was one of the great movies of the 70s. It was also one of my Top 5 Boston Movies of All Time! Jack Nicholson was in rare form as he and Otis Young played Navy men transporting younger sailor Randy Quaid to the NH Navy prison and showing him a good time along the way. Happy 50th TLD!
Dec. 14, 1988: I'm Gonna Git You Sucka opens
In Dec. 1988, Keenan Ivory Wayans' 70s LOL comedy opened. Here is my piece I wrote in 2018. Happy 35th IGGYS!
Dec. 14, 2018: Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse opens
In Dec. 2018 one of the best Spider-Man movies was released. I actually named it my #7 Movie of 2018! By diving into the Miles Morales storyline, they took the Spider-Man story we all know so well and made it seem new again. Just last Summer they released the awesome sequel: Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was released. Happy 5 S-M:ITS-V!
Dec. 15, 1978: Superman opens
Speaking of super hero movies: In Dec. 1978 one of my favorite big screen Superman movies was released. Here is my piece I wrote in 2018. Happy 45th Superman!
Dec. 15, 1993: Schindler's List opens
In Dec. 1993, one of Steven Spielberg's finest works was released. Here is my piece I wrote in 2018. Happy 30th SL!
Dec. 16, 1988: Rain Man opens
In Dec. 1988, the Oscar-winning Best Picture and biggest grossing film of 1988 was released. With the exception of parodies (i.e. The Hangover's Vegas gambling scene), nobody talks about this as much. The road movie of long lost brothers one autistic (Dustin Hoffman) and the other selfish used-car guy (Tom Cruise) was actually quite touching. Sure it was the 80s feel-good movie era and whatnot, but the performances were among both actors' best. Happy 35 RM!
Dec. 17, 1973: Sleeper opens
In Dec. 1973, one of the funniest movies ever made about the future was released. Woody Allen was in his prime when he played a man who is cryogenically frozen in 1973 and is defrosted 200 years later. This is definitely one of his funniest ones. Happy 50th Sleeper!
Dec. 17, 1993: The State premieres
In Dec. 1993, the now-legendary sketch comedy series of NYC comedy group The State premiered on MTV. Here is my piece I wrote in 2018. Earlier this Fall, I actually got to see The State reunion tour when it was in Boston. Happy 30th TS!
Dec. 17, 2008: The Wrestler opens
In Dec. 2008 Darren Aaronofsky's greatest movie was released. Here is my piece I wrote in 2018. Happy 15 TW!
Dec. 18, 2013: Her opens
In Dec. 2013, Spike Jonze greatest movie was released! Here is my piece I wrote in 2018. Happy 10 Her!

I have the opportunity to name this buddy cop fic with Chris/Peter/Noah; Spy Game, which is apparently a buddy cop tv show with Linden Ashby as a star from 1997 produced by Sam Raimi (Spider-man), who also produced the young hercules film that Ian Bohen starred in.
I think I need to take this opportunity to name it a variation of Spy Game.
Alexis sighed, frowning at her daughter. They both stood on either side of the door to Alexis's office, Sam pointing her handgun at the door.
"It's fifteen against one," Alexis pointed out.
Me: Alexis you should know by now that your daughter is a baddie.😌 *Plays hey sexy lady*
"All I'm doing is getting the office back. Then you can go in and fix the system Victor's likely ruining."
"I just want you to be careful."
"I will," Sam sighed, "Now, on the count of three. One…two… three!"
The door flew open as Sam kicked it in. She charged into the room, gun aimed at the main desk. The adrenaline she felt quickly wore off when she saw the room minion-less. She slowly made her way to the left, checking the nook in the corner. No one was there.
Me: *record scratch* Oop...well at least Sam lives to fight another day🤷
"Mom," Sam called, "it's clear. There's no one here."
"Really," Alexis walked in, swiftly closing the door behind her, "so much for your ambush."
"Seems like Victor has a story for me to put out," Alexis gestured for Sam to approach her. The woman got to her feet, walking around the desk, "He put in a whole exposé on Wallace."
"He really doesn't like the guy."
"Clearly. I mean, look at all this information: mob dealings, assassinations in Germany, ties to Helena's schemes. He wants to nail the man."
"Some of this stuff seems exclusive and confidential," Sam observed, "How would Victor know any of this?"
"...Crap," Alexis swore, clicking onto the internet. She pulled up her browser history, shuffling through the most recent tabs, "Of course."
"What?"
"Victor used my journalism credentials to access records. Wallace's rap sheet, health information, all of that he used my key to get."
"Yep," Sam read the screen, "German police reports, hospital forms, even some looks at citizenship."
Me: I feel like every post I have to give Victor a shout out on being thorough and making moves. He's a delusional person but he's a thorough delusional person!
"Victor was thinking of getting Wallace deported?" Alexis looked at her daughter, her eyes narrowed and her eyebrows scrunched together.
"I guess he didn't want to kill him," Sam shrugged.
"Deportation wouldn't have worked. Look: Wallace was given citizenship in 2002, and so was Dex by extension."
"Yeah, but the article, somehow, notes that it was forged for both him and Dex."
"...Victor wouldn't deport his own grandson, would he?"
"If he cares about the family unity, he wouldn't."
Me: Victor believes he has killed dex I can say with certainty he did not care about that boy.😂😭
For what, Eileen? For his family? For his ambitions? He murdered his grandson, he's trying to further wound his heartbroken daughter. And when it comes to you, once he has no use for you, you'll be dead as well."
This popped in my head and I immediately started giggling:
"And after today, neither will you," Laura crossed her arms, "Effective immediately, your work as the deputy mayor of Port Charles is done."
"You can't do that-"
"Oh, but I can, and I did. You no longer have access to the resources and contacts you used to, the materials you used to further Victor's agenda. You're lucky I'm not having you arrested."
Ashby blinked, unsure of what to say. Laura stepped closer, getting in the woman's face.
"Eileen, don't let Victor put you down the way he had Irina do Wallace," she said, "Save yourself. Leave…and don't come back."
Ashby stood still for a moment, taking her words in before turning and leaving the hotel.
Me: A better fate than canon😂
"...Damnit."
"What?"
Dante studied Robert's posture, noting the disappointment on his face as he looked at his phone.
"It's Laura," Robert replied.
"Is she okay?"
"She's fine. It's just some bad news."
"What is it?"
"Wallace is out," Robert showed Dante the text.
"...Damn," Dante swore, running a hand down his face, "That's bad, that's really bad."
"The man was supposed to play decoy and create a diversion, not succumb to a bullet wound."
Me:
It's such a Robert thing to say.🙈
"Victor's dead…" Laura said slowly, "He's finally gone. We did it."
"We helped. Wallace did what had to be done, and Dex's plan to out himself worked. We did our part, yes, but if anyone's getting credit for taking Victor out once and for all, it's the Heller men."
Me:
"Wallace killed Victor?" Ava questioned, her mouth hanging open, "Is he okay? What about Irina and Dex and-"
"I don't know how they're doing, I just know Victor is gone."
"Damn…" Spencer swore, "that's…that's huge."
"Yeah. He dies and we're left to clean up his messes."
Me: I just LOVE how everyone is either like "Fucking finally" or "I mean cool but damn we got a mess to clean up" in reaction to victor's death.😂
"Spencer," Ava cut in, "can you give your father and I some space? There's something pressing he should know about."
"...Okay," the young man huffed, turning and leaving the great room.
"What's the issue?" Nikolas asked. Ava gave him the papers, watching as his face went pale the more he flipped through them, "...You're divorcing me?"
"And this time, I'm committing to it."
Me:
Ava divorcing Nikolas will always be a moment loved by me. We just love to see it.
"Do us both a favor, Nikolas," Ava said softly, "Let us be free of this marriage. There's nothing left for us."
"I love you, Ava. I'm not giving up on you."
"You did that when you decided to sleep with Esme, love. There's no getting me back. I'm not going to stay in a relationship with someone who chose to hurt me."
"Please…please don't leave me…"
"It's for the best," Ava began to walk away, "I'll give you some space to sign them and to deal with Cassadine Industries; I'll be back later."
"Ava!" Nikolas called out. The woman stopped for a moment before turning back around, a wicked grin on her face.
"Freedom comes to those fortunate enough to pursue it," she said gently, "and I am seizing that opportunity. I'm sorry, Nikolas. It's over."
Me:
SHE SAID IT!!!!
Nikolas stood in shock as she turned the corner, his phone in one hand and the documents in another. His mind was blank, unsure of his next move. Once the shock wore off, he considered the tasks at hand, and part of him wasn't sure where to blame his uncle, his soon-to-be-ex-wife, or himself for what has happened, what just happened, and what could happen in the near future.
Me: Ah Nikolas is once again looking to blame someone for his own mess.🥴 That man will never change.

DEAN
You know... even though the world is going to crap, there's one thing that I can always count on – these things tasting the same in every drive-through in every state in our great nation.
true that.
SAM
You know, uh, you know she and Bobby had a thing, right?
DEAN
Yeah. Yeah, I knew that. Really?
SAM
Yeah. Kind of a foxhole thing – very Hemingway.
DEAN
Huh. She and I kind of went Hemingway this one time, too.
SAM
All right, well... that happens.
DEAN
What, you too?
SAM
