Found God in a Tomato by Psychedelic Porn Crumpets - okay i know this sounds stupid but also this has very quickly rocketed to one of our favorite songs and it's got variance that makes it easy to listen to on repeat.

Menjadi Penerjemah Profesional

Aku pengen sharing dikit tentang materi penerjemahan tadi bersama ust. Hamim Thohir Musa, Lc

Beliau tamatan LIPIA, Jakarta. Karir penerjemahan beliau udah begitu luas dan profesional banget. Aku coba sebut seingatku:

- Pernah jadi penerjemah istana waktu zaman pak SBY

- Pernah jadi penerjemah mabes polri juga.

- Pernah jadi penerjemah kedutaan Australia

- Pernah jadi penerjemah kedutaan Jerman juga

- Pernah jadi penerjemah Prof. Wahbah Az-Zuhaili di mahkamah pengadilan Indo.

- Pernah jadi penerjemah manual book Garuda Indonesia.

- Beliau juga sering jadi penerjemah di konferensi2 internasional. Salah satunya penerjemah untuk mantan menteri luar negri Alwi Shihab.

- Kalo terjemahan buku, dokumen, dan surat2 udah ga terhitung lagi kata beliau... Kwkw

- Beliau punya perusahaan terjemah sendiri namanya Pusat Penerjemah

Dunia terjemah profesional sendiri bisa dibagi jadi 3:

Pertama, Tulisan. Ini banyak bentuknya; dokumen, surat2, buku, surat kabar, dll.

Kedua, Lisan -langsung. Biasanya ini sering di konferensi2 internasional. Penerjemah menerjemahkan langsung apa yang dikatakan pembicara tanpa jeda. Para penerjemah di tempatkan di satu pos, kemudian suaranya akan sampai ke headset tiap2 peserta konferensi.

Kata beliau di samping bayaran nya mahal dan waktunya singkat sekitar 4 jam, tapi bagian ini sangat melelahkan. Karena penerjamah dipaksa terus mendengarkan, ngomong, fokus, tanpa jeda.

Ketiga, Lisan-tidak langsung. Kayak menerjamahkan rekaman.

Dari beliau aku tahu gimana dunia profesional terjemah dan gimana tantangan2 yang sering dihadapi penerjemah. Di antara tantangannya:

- Deadline. Karena itu seorang penerjemah ga hanya baik saja, tapi harus cepat. Kata beliau seorang dikatakan penerjemah jika ia mampu menerjemahkan 20-30 lembar buku/hari.

- Unpaid. Ga dibayar dan dibayar ga selayaknya. Ini biasanya terjadi kalo baru-baru mulai. Atau ketemu klien y ga profesional (bisa jadi karena emng klien buruk atau karena kebetulan klien adalah kenalan penerjemah... kwkw)

- Bad client. Ustad Hamim cerita kalo dia pernah ngalamin ini waktu ada proyek sama salah satu negara teluk ( nama negaranya disensor). Beliau udah nerjemahin ratusan dokumen. Tapi waktu hasil terjemahan diserahin, klien ga mau bayar karena nemu satu kesalahan. Satu doang. Itupun bukan subtansial.

Penerjemah profesional seperti beliau gajinya bisa 50-100 jt sekali terjemah buku. Apalagi proyek terjemahnya dari pemerintahan dan kedutaan.

Terkait gaji penerjemah profesional, ada satu hal yang aku ingat dari beliau yaitu:

Gratisan bisa menzolimi orang.

Termasuk bidang profesional yang lain. Mungkin kita melihat pekerjaan seperti designer dengan pandangan remeh. Apalagi ketika mereka menawarkan harga yang menurut kita ga wajar.

"cuma duduk depan komputer doang sampe 10 jt!? "

Sebenarnya harga itu bukan hanya harga dia bergadang sampe subuh aja, tapi lebih-lebih harga itu untuk usahanya bertahun-tahun sampai dia berhasil jadi desaigner profesional.

Begitu juga penerjemah profesional. Jadi penerjemah itu ga gampang. Orang mungkin menganggap asal lulus kampus arab otomatis bisa jadi penerjemah. Mindset begini salah total.

Kalau semua lulusan kampus arab bisa jadi penerjmah, trus kenapa sampe sekarang penerjemah masih dikit?

Kata ust Hamim, sebelum jadi penerjemah profesional, beliau sempat kursus bahasa inggris. Beliau ngeluarin uang jutaan.

Di samping uang, juga waktu. Bayangkan aja gimana capek dan pusingnya nerjemahin 30 lembar sehari. Itu belum masuk tahap penelitian/analisa buku, identifikasi sumber, tahap penyuntingan, dll.

Nah, bayangkan kalo kita bayar profesional ga selayaknya. Atau kita minta gratisan (termasuk dengan alasan teman dekat misalnya). Ga kebayang gimana kita menzolimi si profesional tadi. Uangnya habis, waktunya terkuras, apalagi dia punya keluarga yang harus dinafkahi...

(Serius, teman yang minta gratisan mulu bukan teman namanya!)

Beliau sempat ditanya sejak kapan beliau berlatih terjemah. Beliau jawab sejak smp. Beliau dari smp baca Quran selalu liat artinya. Itu yang membuat skill terjemah beliau terlatih.

O iya, persis seperti beliau, sejak masuk SMP, aku mulai ngafal Quran pake arti. Sampai lima belas juz hafalanku. Karena memang ngafal pakai arti sangat membantu proses menghafal. Apalagi ayatnya adalah ayat cerita. Kalo kita paham ceritanya, kita bisa tahu apa ayat selanjutnya kalau di tengah ayat ternyata lupa.

Sebenarnya, dari gaya ngafal ini aku banyak dapat banyak manfaat. Kosa kata bahasa Arabku makin banyak. Aku gampang paham kaedah nahwu-sharaf. Aku bisa merangkai kalimat yang bagus ketika menerjemahkan kalimat berbahasa arab.

Makanya, aku sarankan bagi yang mau ngafal quran, trus paham bahasa arab walau dikit (waktu SMP kualitas bahasa arabku masih jauh), mulailah ngafal pake arti. Serius! Lebih gampang!

Selain ngafal quran pake arti, beliau juga terbiasa baca 3 buku sehari. Berarti paling dikit bacaan beliau 300 halaman per hari.

Jadi, sebenarnya di balik profesionalitas seorang dan juga bayaran yang tinggi, ada tetes keringat yang mengiringi. Ada usaha lebih yang mungkin tak dilakukan kebanyakan orang.

Pokoknya, hari ini aku beruntung hadir sharing session bersama beliau. Udah lama aku ga nemu orang yang bisa membakar lagi semangat-semangat yang sempat layu...
