Reaction to Best Sense of Humor

Eleanor knew he already had it in the bag before his name was even announced. She tried not to make it obvious that she clapped a little louder and smiled a bit brighter at the results of this particular award. It was well earned.

So far no one had noticed just how perfectly his cufflinks matched her dress.

Just finished "Surat Binisaya" by Rolando O. Borrinaga, which gave me a deeper understanding of the on-going challenges of translating Philippine scripts written on old Philippine artifacts.  One challenge is determining the validity and age of the artifacts. Another is determining what language was used when writing them, and what the objects were used for.  Last but not least, Borrinaga shares an updated list of old Bisaya words derived from a Spanish dictionary by Francisco Alcina written in 1668. The corrected words span 40 pages of "Surat Binisaya," with possibly 400 to 500 Bisaya words from the 1600s. "Are they being overly dramatic or appropriately dramatic?" Is a fair question with which to start, before Samar dives into the ever teased gossip from the night before. They ride in the back of her SUV, sharply pressed suit to match Samar's and sunglasses to mask whatever hangover still plagued her. All she'd known so far were the reactions, but not the key factor which caused the ripple.

She eyes Sam, then points her gaze back out the window — New York streets speeding right on by. "...Better here than through our phones."

The flashing lights are mostly gone, forgotten back where the red carpet comes to a halt. Inside, it’s much the traditional gala; tables filled with loud chatter. Anaïs sits at the one claimed by her family — and the guests they’d brought along. She’d mid chugging competition with her brother, as she feels a familiar aura over her shoulder. 

“Cufflinks, please?” She demands — jokingly or not — as train conductors would tickets. It’s extremely important, that they’re the right shade of gold.

Fun fact: Samar means “evening conversation” and Zaman means “era/time”. (Humans usually need names so I found one that I thought fit)
