Like a completely normal adult person, after watching the new trolls movie, I obsessively started putting together the brothers' backstory, the deeper reasons for their separation as well as how that all took place without disregarding the fact that they were trapped in the troll tree, which of course evolved into a fic in (forever) progress... yeah

Anyway, even though they aren't actively in the story much, i needed to design the parents, so uh meet Rosiepuff's daughter, Tulip, and her husband Branch.

I designed them based on the brothers' adult looks and in Tulip's case also on her mom's.

As an autistic person that deeply relates to Laios I am dreading the day we reach the Winged Lion arc in the anime because reading comprehension is dead and the second people see the "you wish you were a monster and had ill will towards your village" they'll immediately ignore the "I was an ostracized child and now I want people and monsters living in harmony" part and assume Laios is a bloodthirsty villain and misunderstand the exploration of the nature of desires in the story

There is actually a reason why I draw him so spikey! I wanted him to look like his Dad while also resembling his mom a bit as well. I eventually decided to made all the brothers have bits of resemblance of their parents because of genes LOL

I fucking LOVE how loyal the companions are to each other... and how their relationships are evolving with both each other and the player.

to all those people who think Larian is copying Dragon Age... well Dragon Age would never have this. where all the very fucked up companions who are in this shit together actually recognise that fact with common sense and they support each other despite any differences. Not only that BUT they recognise the similarities they have with each other and support each other based on that fact

Example: Astarion-Gale (how Astarion comments "he is a man of taste" if the player is a little annoyed with Gale and if player says that he wants to suck out magic lol Or when Gale is supportive like the "don't do it Astarion, it's not worth it, trust me, I know the temptation only too well" and so on...)

If this was dragon age then they would talk to each other like "how typical, ofc you are like this, dickhead" and trying to be helpful and supportive would be a 1 in a billion dialogue. they would only make shit worse for each other. and look... interpersonal conflicts could be a fun driving force of plot but in da it mostly doesn't drive the plot. they are just making shit worse for the other person even when it makes no sense and when they should be more friendly and understanding based on their own struggles.

Another example: Wyll-Karlach (their conflict actually does start the plot. it has a significance, it's not there for no reason. but even after that initial conflict they immediately become understanding of each other and supportive. they both dislike devils, they both want to escape from that situation etc. and they don't act like idiots who don't see that they are in this together. even though one of them tried to kill the other. one of them received horns because of the other. )

I could go on... but whatever, you get the picture. I just like this type of writing for interactions between characters.

Guys hear me out please . The reason their hair is like this (especially after Clay's was straight when younger) is because of Viva! Her tendency to braid people's hair isn't touched on in the movie besides "it means I like you" so here I am with a whiteboard and a fresh expo marker

As someone who has its fair share of anxiety and regular Bad Thoughts, I reach up to my hair all the time to fidget. It's great, I'm native so it's thick and tough, and without even thinking I can twirl or tie it around for HOURS. If I have media playing I can zone out in, I can play with other people's hair for hours as well and I won't feel any ache in my wrists or anything

Vivas hair is more erratic than Clay's, so I figure that after the great Bergen attack, she would ground herself by reaching up and digging her fingers through her hair, stressing it out and fraying it so it no longer stuck up straight like pop troll hair seems inclined to do, and one day after zoning in from perhaps an anxiety attack or calming herself from a bad nightmare, she'd find the handful of hair she had grabbed was braided. Happens to me more often than I could even count, when it's bad my bangs will just end up braided or tied into a weird knot without me consciously doing it. And since braiding hair takes slightly more effort than just pulling or twisting it, she'd start intentionally braiding her hair in sections as a stress reliever and calming method

Of course over time it would become second nature, we can see how fast she braids Poppy and Branchs hair in the movie (Poppy braids hers as well, but Poppy only did a few small sections vs Viva doing their entire head and VERY neatly) so asking people she trusts to braid their hair as both a way to spend time with them and an even better way to help quell her anxiety (I like body doubling so I might just be projecting) and since Clay is absolutely her best friend, whether you think DreamWorks tried to imply romance or not, he would be the most common "victim" of Vivas braiding and so over the course of two decades their hair has just become accustomed to bring braided and so it's wild like this.
