actually i think i should ramble on some of the groundwork for the weird kym swap au thing because im doing it kinda weirdly
so typically with swap aus you fully change around how everything works but im a fan of “maintaining certain story aspects and trading others” so that’s what im toying with here
not everything is in a perfectly preened timeline yet since i just came up with the idea Yesterday but i made some strides in establishing certain parts
asw kikuno was dispatched the night that death got loose, takeharu (and his young daughter, refusing to be left at home) observing the battle that would take place on the moonlight bridge at what was thought to be a safe enough distance. a stray attack lands by them, thankfully only knocking takeharu unconscious but unfortunately resulting in the death of the accompanying kirijo bodyguards. when kikuno is able to restrict death into mere essence, only one healthy vessel remains. the asw, automatic and relentless, approaches mitsuru kirijo who is hunched over her fathers unconscious body, afraid and crying, and uses her to seal death.
this is where the divergence really starts happening. after the incident, only mitsuru is able to clearly remember what occurred, and she doesn’t comprehend what kikuno did to her because she’s a child. what she does comprehend is that last she saw kikuno, she was hurt and limping toward her. so she starts asking what happened to her and if she can see her. takeharu initially refuses as he isn’t sure why she’s so bent on seeing her, but ergo research, catching wind of this, urges him to let her visit the lab. he eventually allows it.
mitsuru visits kikuno consistently as she receives repairs. her memory is corrupted as a result of overexerting herself amidst the situation, but she is left with an instinctive feeling like she has to be beside mitsuru, has to protect her. she expresses this to the researchers working on her multiple times when mitsuru isn’t present.
after mitsuru awakens (the scenario is the same with those key differences; she awakens while protecting her father, but penthesilea briefly becomes thanatos and goes wild) kikuno is not put away, but refurbished for the purpose of becoming mitsuru’s bodyguard. takeharu’s orders. he knows an attachment has formed between them, and that mitsuru, stubborn as she is, will not be letting up from the research going into the dark hour anytime soon. he has a lot more Fear in this timeline due to his negligence that night on the moonlight bridge.
mitsuru doesn’t have access to the velvet room until sees begins operation, signifying the true start of her ‘journey’. usually when a wildcard awakens this happens right away but given how young she was and how she wouldn’t really be fully utilizing the power of the wildcard until sees is official and active, this seems like the best way to go about it
asw kikuno has had a lot more time to develop than aigis in canon. but because she sees herself wholly as a tool to serve, she still experiences moderate setbacks in the actualization of her own humanity. it does make the later revelation regarding what exactly she did to mitsuru (which mitsuru has likely blocked out by the main events of p3) that much more devastating. 6 long years of protecting her, was it all her programming in service of the seal and not the one she had considered herself so devoted to? what is she without that purpose? can she even look mitsuru in the eye after it all crashes down on them?
wildcard mitsuru is quite a bit more uh. well her already deep guilt is probably not made any better by the fact that she’s a wildcard. all of the extra weight on her shoulders of having a special version of an already rare power and whatnot definitely make her feel at least a little like a puppet on a string for fate. it’s only befitting, though, right? the heir of the very group that wanted to harness death so badly being instrumental in the true elimination of the dark hour…all this to say she is walking a bit of a tightrope with her mental stability LMAO. the back to back of ikutsukis betrayal/takeharus death and then the eventual reveal of harboring death itself for years and years back to back are going to be soul-crushing to say the least.
eiichiro takeba didn’t have children in this timeline, but he did want for one rather badly. so badly in fact that his desires affected that little piece of death he was constantly in near contact with, and influenced what eventually would be her shape before his untimely death. appriser yukari is the daughter he never had. (i know this is so silly and a stretch but i think it’d be fun)
appriser yukari is different without the full extent of canon yukari’s backstory. i think she maintains much of her attitude (perhaps more things passed down from a mixture of eiichiro’s influence and her presence within mitsuru?) but she’s quite a bit more friendly and well yk oozing charm as a peppy little transfer student. she’s drawn instantly to mitsuru, who is fresh off of losing her drive for everything. yukari just wants to make her smile again. (again? she hasn’t seen her smile before, though. she’s been nothing but tired and gloomy since they first met. well, she kinda feels like it’s fate, in a way. like she was destined to come into mitsurus life at that moment and pick her up. it’s like a mushy romance cliche…)
more to come…happy to take suggestions on other roleswaps for this because I’m having fun rearranging the lore to fit, and i was realy only focused on the kym aspect.

Hii! I love all your works! It's amazing and I honestly got hooked with your writing! Anyways, I'm not so sure if you're still answering questions or doing requests, but, every time I read the HoS, I've always wondered what had happened to the previous darlings in the og's Sephiroth's world.
Like, is there a replacement? Do the Sephiroth's go back? And what are the Sephiroth's Darling's think? Especially C.C
Uhm, sorry if this is too much or against your rules! And I don't know if you already mentioned or what had happened, I can't remember and I don't exactly do well with context clues unfortunately 😭
But thank you and you can ignore this!
Thank you for the ask, the feedback on the blog and content. I'm sorry if it seemed like my inbox was closed. It's always OPEN for anyone to reach out with questions or requests! I really appreciate the clarity you gave me here, because I honestly don't know what people are thinking or are struggling with. I strive for accessibility in both story and navigation, so knowing what you guys think about these things is so important for me!
I can't remember if I ever explained it fully myself, since I wrote so much of it in the past so we're in the same boat, haha! But I can explain it here below.
HoS is basically a Sephverse AU where time fuckery has caused the different versions of Sephiroth to co-exist and some of them (our main five boys and gal) complete for the sole darling they believed to be their own. And it's actually true!
The HoS Darling is multiple darlings (from my other AUs) merged into one person, which is why the Sephys act differently in their interactions with that darling. It's pretty clear that something went very wrong, though. The darlings were absolutely not supposed to combine into one person, but hey, there's no changing it now. For now it seems😏
But the Sephiroths? They are intent on not only winning the darling, but also on absorbing their other counterparts for their powers~
Only one Sephy is going to win the Darlingbowl. Who will it be? Who could it be? 🤔

So continuing the “swap au” questions of villains and heroes switching how would the creations of all for one and the doctor; such as machia, number six, and the various nomu’s, function in the alternate timeline?
I can't really see any version where the Nomu exist, at least in the same way, especially when All For One is moral doesn't need them. Maybe they'll be a version with All Might if you changed some of the mechanics of "One For All". Like they're failed recipients of "One For All", their bodies mutating from failing to handle the power.
Now Gigantomachia and Number 6 I can see filling very similar roles, but with different beats. Gigantomachia and Number 6 were found by the Hero Commission to supposedly take over All For One's role, Gigantomachia from his ability to handle multiple Quirks and Number 6 from his lack of real identity making him easy to mold, but he found the candidates unsuitable for their own reasons. He instead took the two lost souls under his wing and they became his two prime agents, working in two opposite roles as figures. Gigantomachia would still be a mountain of a man with all of his Quirks, but would now be directed to greater disaster zones, taking steps before, during, or after the disaster to mitigate the damages. There would be stories of a living island picking people up in a flooded area saving people or walking into a potential meltdown to bury the problem underground. Number 6 would still try to emulate Overclock, now a fallen hero who All For One stole "Overclock" from, only now he'd act far more like Hawks. He'd be playing a friendly face in public and doing all of the Commission's dirty work behind the scenes, undergoing all kinds of experiments. He does it because he's devoted to this ideal of a hero and "that is what a true hero would do."

For anyone confused about the canon status of any given Sonic game, I've put together what's hopefully a helpful chart breaking it down! Worth noting is that every single TV and comic series exists in its own canon as well, so they would be in the "AU Territory" section.
Detailed descriptions of the games in each section and how they fit into canon are beneath the cut - but they do contain spoilers if you're concerned about that at all.
Universally Agreed Canon: Sonic 1, CD, 2, 3 & Knuckles, Adventure, Adventure 2, Heroes, Sonic and the Secret Rings, Sonic and the Black Knight, Unleashed, Colors, Generations, Lost World, and Sonic Forces
Pretty straightforward; these are most of the main console releases, and so people treat them as more definitively canon than anything else. I feel like I remember there being a bit of debate about Secret Rings and Black Knight, but with the former being clearly referenced in Generations, it's safe to assume the latter happened as well.
This post is being written before Sonic Frontiers releases, but it's safe to say that'll be in this section, too.
Canon but in a confusing way due to storytelling: Sonic Rush, Rush Adventure, Shadow the Hedgehog, Sonic 06, Rivals, Rivals 2, and Sonic Mania
So, this is where it gets weird. Nothing about the Rush games is weird on their own, but them being the origin story for Blaze and Eggman Nega creates major complications for Sonic 06 and the Rivals games. Those two characters are cited as being from an alternate dimension, but in 06, Blaze is simply there in the future with no indication given as to whether this is the same Blaze from Rush or not. And in the Rivals games, Eggman Nega is explicitly said to be from the future instead, now.
However, you can't write the Rivals games off as being non-canon because they're the only instance of Silver being reintroduced to the rest of the cast. And why did he need to be reintroduced? Because of Sonic 06, whose entire plot gets undone at the end of the game.
But you also can't say that 06 isn't canon because it gets undone, because Crisis City - a stage that is dependent on 06 events to exist - is in Sonic Generations, a game all about exploring Sonic's past.
Shadow the Hedgehog is a game with multiple branching paths, but it does have a True Ending that... is basically just the ending and shows none of the steps any of the characters took to get there. So technically, we have no idea what truly happened between the start and end of that game, and so information that was true in one route and not another is made even more ambiguous.
Sonic Mania has to be canon because in the true ending, Sonic is whisked away to be "Classic Sonic" in Forces. However, Tails recognizes Classic Sonic as being "that Sonic from another dimension," which can only refer to his appearance in Generations, but... they were very clearly dealing with time travel in that game, not dimension hopping.
Does this mean all Sonic games pre-Adventure are now retconned into another dimension? Possibly, but fans collectively don't like that which is why I put all those games in the "Universally Agreed Canon" section.
Spinoff, but doesn't contradict canon much: Knuckles' Chaotix, Sonic Blast, 3D Blast, Sonic R, Tails Adventure, Tails' Sky Patrol, Shuffle, Riders, Riders: Zero Gravity, Free Riders, Team Sonic Racing, Spinball, SegaSonic the Hedgehog, Triple Trouble, Labyrinth, Sonic Chaos, and Sonic the Fighters
These are basically "take it or leave it" when it comes to canon. Sometimes the setting seems more obviously different from the mainline games, but not so much that you couldn't justify them being in the same world.
Handheld adaptation that changes the script so we assume the console version is the true canon: Sonic Colors, Generations, and the Mega Drive games
I couldn't actually find the icons for all the Mega Drive games, but this category is pretty much what it sounds like. The handheld versions of Sonic 1, 2, etc. didn't have scripts though, so what changes is more on-screen events and level design.
People still use these titles as reference for characterization, though; especially Colors, which had a much wider cast of characters than its console counterpart.
Wanted to be canon but got rejected: Sonic Chronicles: the Dark Brotherhood, Sonic 4 episodes 1 and 2
Chronicles pulls from a lot of pre-established lore in order to tell its story, so I believe it was written with the intention of being canon. It even ended on a sequel hook, but the game was so poorly received that no mention of its lore additions have come up ever since, and without a conclusion, it's safe to say it's non-canon now.
Sonic 4 was more obviously marketed as a follow-up to Sonic 3 & Knuckles, and its events do work under that premise from what I can tell. It was originally meant to have more episodes, but like Chronicles, its reception led to the project being scrapped and we have no particular reason to assume it's canon anymore.
AU Territory: Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine, Sonic's Schoolhouse, and the three Sonic Boom games (Rise of Lyric, Shattered Crystal, and Fire & Ice)
You could make the argument that there's nothing saying Sonic didn't run a schoolhouse at some point, but I think it's safe to say they weren't too concerned about this being canon at all.
Mean Bean is a glorified recolor of Puyo Puyo, and it has more in common with the cartoon Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog than anything else.
Sonic Boom is its own thing entirely, but oddly enough the games seem to be AUs of each other as well? Fire & Ice could reasonably be a sequel to either one (Shattered Crystal more likely due to being on the same console), but there's no way the other two can coexist in the same universe together. It's also unclear which, if any, of these games are canon to the TV show.
Genuinely don't know what the consensus on these is: The three Sonic Advance games, and Sonic Battle
I'm personally unfamiliar with the plot of Advance 3 especially, but I do know that it introduces a new(?) character that's related to events in Battle, and they haven't appeared in a game since. No other game references the events of Battle, either.
But it's also the series of games that formally introduced Cream to the other characters, so that means it has to be canon, right? I don't know, but I think 4 out of 53+ games is an alright number to not know how to place.
This ended up being a lot to write, but hopefully it makes sense! I didn't want to go too deep into the stories themselves or the lore details because that would take way too long, and the goal here was to show more how they fit together rather than what specifically happens in them.

Evil Dadrius Adoption Au
Golden Cage
Darius and Eberwolf kidnap Hunter by luring him to their home disguised as celebrating his promotion to Golden Guard then refuses to let Hunter leave. They eventually successfully manage to manipulate Hunter into willingly staying with them and Hunter develops stockhome syndrome.
Darius starts off as a dark rebel but once Belos is overthrown he makes himself the new ruler of the Boiling Isles and keeps Raine brainwashed to be on his side figuring it better for them to be brainwashed then Darius having to kill them if they turn against him.
Unhinged
Everything is good in the beginning, Darius is your typical doting protective loving father to Hunter and Hunter enjoys every bit of it. Then Hunter dies and Darius is desperate to have his son back to revives him. Darius is frazzled at losing his son but nothing more and they continue having a happy father son relationship.
Then Hunter dies again... And again... And again... Each time Hunter dies, Darius loses more of his sanity and becomes more obsessed and controlling, willing to do anything to keep his son safe and taking care of anything he views as a threat. Hunter begins to long for the time when his father was normal, the good times but he knows it's his fault for not listening to Darius in the beginning and dying so many time.
Cycle of Abuse
Where the previous GG never realized Belos for the horrible person and parent he is and it changes more then you think. Previous GG sees the abuse he suffered as something he deserved to happen to him and what happens to children who are naughty, that's just how things are.
When he adopts a dark skinned baby who appears on his doorstep, Belos goes ballistic and so Prev GG kills him for the sake of his new adopted son. Unfortunately for Darius and later Hunter, that switch of Belos being a bad person and parent was never flicked on and Prev GG chalked it up to him just being too traditional. Prev GG raised Darius much in the same way Belos raised him and so Darius learned to be cruel and cold to most.
When the Prev GG died, Darius got lonely and came across Belos' old instructions on a grimwalker and so Darius creates his own child in the image of his late father to love and adore. With his own child now though he holds similar belief to the Prev GG on child raising he finds he can't bear to do half those things that were done to him to his beloved baby boy so Hunter was saved from most terrors but not all of them. Darius may not be able to bring himself to hurt Hunter in any way but that doesn't mean he won't manipulate Hunter into behaving like a good son should.
Mostly Evil Family
The most fluffy version where Eberwolf and Darius are evil and Hunter's his normal sun Bean self that's absolutely adored by his new father and new uncle. No manipulation or kidnapping took place. Darius just started early and showed Hunter what true love was so when it came time, Hunter chose Darius over Belos.
Darius and Eberwolf are perfectly normal to Hunter, doting, protective but just the right amount. Everyone else? Well that's a different story... Hunter knows how they treat everyone else and though he encourages Darius and Eberwolf to be more lenient or relaxed, he figures that's just how things should be.
Multiple Hunters
Darius has adopted three children, Hunter (16), William (13) and Jasper (8), he originally planned to only adopt Hunter but after coming across uncompleted grimwalkers, he felt obligated to adopt the others. The brothers don't like eachother, Hunter thinks Jasper is too childish while William is too uptight, William is tired of having to take care of Jasper and seeing Hunter getting all of their father's love and Jasper sees William as the bossy mean older brother and Hunter as someone pompous and smug asshole. Doesn't help they are jealous of eachother as well. Hunter envies his brothers freedom and no rules, his brothers envy the love he gets.
William and Jasper look like the beta designs of Hunter but with the trademark magenta eyes and pointy ears.

TELL US MORE ABOUT THIS MANHWA CULTS AU PLS
of course! enjoy reading 💕
Tumblr media
MOST of the au logic depends on what manhwa's we're talking about.
per say, if we're talking about manhwa's that have multiple gods already in the story, examples such as "lout of the count's family" and "omniscient reader's viewpoint", the writer will have have more creative liberty on what kind of god the reader is and their titles as well as what their followers are like, are they a minor god? a god part of a pantheon? etc.
as an example, in "omniscient reader's viewpoint" god's, angels, etc. view the starstream, a streaming platform that is basically just a survival show, but the participants didn't consent beforehand and can die, of course, the higher beings themselves are reffered to as "constellations", and as constellations, they can sponsor or donate coins(?) to a "participant".
with this in mind, you can have a lot of fun with the cult au, the reader could be isekai'd into this world as a god and pretending to be human, accidentally getting into the same train cart as kim-dokja, chaos ensues.
or the reader could be a constellation, wanting to help the protagonist or any side character, maybe even physically barging in to help some of them behind the shadows.
or my personal favorite, the reader has an alternate version of themselves, their godly counterpart, the god of course, knows this, and actually worships the reader, as the reader actually got inside the story, maybe reader also has the same powers and abilities their godly counterpart has? it's up to the writers.
but if we're talking about "lout of the count's family", i have some ideas for it.
for context, there are 4 gods in the story, from what i remember, death, sun, war, and despair. the god of despair was sealed and can be defeated, so with this knowledge i propose a few template ideas.
1, the reader was a sealed god, with the sealing being literally just them going to sleep, the reader's soul could've travelled outside of the world and ended up in a mortal body in this world, so they end up reading the novel, sleep, and wake up in their original body. the reader would probably spend a few days adjusting and naturally regaining their powers and memories, doubting that anyone would unseal them, but guess what, they got unsealed by a character of the writer's choice.
2, the reader is a minor god that now travels around the world, encountering different characters and doing their godly duties in a scheduled time.
and 3, the good old "reader gets isekai'd and becomes a new young god"!
Tumblr media
and now, my personal favorite section of this post, i'll be using examples from the manhwa's "roxana", otherwise known as "fhe way to protect the female leads older brother", "how to get my husband on my side", and "the villainess reverses the hourglass".
if it were manhwa's that only have a single god or no god mentioned in explicit detail, the writer will have less creative liberty, usually being just described as a christian god, unless there'd be a sub-au of the manhwa cult au where we pull a SAGAU and say that god!reader created the universe and yada yada.
.
in roxana, there isn't any god mentioned at all in the novel and manhwa, so the writer's will have more creative liberty with stuff regarding godly stuff.
maybe reader gets isekai'd into one of the five(5) ruling families and hides the fact that they're quite literally god?
or will the reader hide themselves and reside in a human form, trying to help roxana agriche to achieve her dream?
.
in "how to get my husband on my side", maybe the isekai'd!god!reader takes pity on ruby and tries their best to help ruby out? such as getting her healthy and clean food when she ran away from the omerta dukedom?
or does the reader hide their true identity and tries to befriend their favorite characters?
or do they hide themselves to not get associated with the story and the characters?

Hey I'm the sasusaku fan reading Kaika Sasei. Thank you for the answer I'm looking forward. By the way, can you link here the written version? You have so many chapters written and I wanna know more before reading the manga.
I was hoping you could pick up fan's ideas, wish you could check out inosakutema they're a great trio though. I see that you plan to stay true to Kishimoto and I can pick up on the Temari situation with Sakura in Suna. (Hope it's the clinic!!).
Speaking of the clinic I can't wait to see your version of it. Boruto leaves me wanting for some more head of medical department Sakura. It's so simplified and boring, she's your average healer only when plot needs her and it's so boring only the same jutsu. It's like she ain't the world's strongest kunoichi and its best medical ninja.
I might be a loyal sasusaku but I'm not too hostile on Karin, I think she's really useful as a sensor and her sensory is the best in the world, I don't get how people downplay them. Hopefully you can find a spot for her in Konoha as their leader of Barrier.
I was sad when you didn't give any details about Hanabi. Neji was my favorite character and the only escape to his absence I could find is Hanabi, she's the best in Boruto all things considered (the story is trash). If you follow Kishimoto writing then I can rest assured she will lead her clan like I've been waiting for them to show already.
Hi there! Welcome back! 🤗
So, I have multiple formats for the written version.
I have it pretty much everywhere: my blog in storybook format on chatte-georgiana.com
This post here has a table of contents with all of them: https://chatte-georgiana.com/2020/10/25/kaika-saisei-naruto-au-after-the-war-sakura-haruno-centric/
Then, if you want, depending on what you’re most used to I have it on:
FFnet: https://m.fanfiction.net/s/13771214/1/Kaika-Saisei (this one for some reason ruined some of the formatting and no matter what I try it won’t save the modificatiosn)
AO3: https://archiveofourown.org/works/28149138/chapters/68971716
Wattpad: https://www.wattpad.com/1063652674-kaika-saisei-chapter-1-every-end-is-a-new
So, depending on what you like most, pick your favorite. 😁
Now to the next part of your question, regarding fan ideas and whatnot… to be honest I try to stay as far away as possible from that because at the end of the day this is the vision I have over her development & I’m writing it based on old theories I had regarding her. Which ironically came true partially and didn’t come true at the same time. It’s like Schroedinger’s cat situation lol.
From what you’re telling me there’s plenty of that in the original series though? Like I said, I’m trying my best to stay as far away from it, although I will have a certain reference to it at some point in the story. But that’ll come when it’ll come and that’s all I’m going to say about it cuz I don’t want to spoil. 😁
Of course there might be certain similarities to original due to the fact that certain things have been discussed in the fandom prior to the ending, so what the publisher did was take those ideas and put them into the actual story, lol. It’s more than clear at this point they’re scanning the fandom for ideas. But anyway, moving in from that….
As for the writing, yeah, I’m trying to stay as close as possible to Kishimoto’s writing though. I’m sure you’ll enjoy the Sakura/Temari thing I have in mind because in a way it’s not very far from what you’re telling me, it’s just that it’s maybe a different angle, let’s say.
As for the clinic, I’m sure you’ll enjoy it purely from the angle of Sakura being highly underutilized in OG material.
Like trust me, I tried giving Boruto a chance even if I was mad at the ending. I said ok, if the writing is good then I’ll give it a chance because at the end of the day, I can appreciate something good even if it’s not my preferred taste. But sadly, the way the franchise treats her it’s just lamentable, imo.
Medical ninjutsu used to be so much fun & intricate, but OG material just stuck to its ever used green aura type of thing and that’s it.
That’s precisely why in Kaika I did my best to try and give it the respect it deserves. Ofc, I might not do it 100% okay either, but at least I’ll try my best to go past the green glow. 🤷‍♀️
As for Karin, buckle up and think if this is going to be or not an impediment to you because as I said, this is going to be SK story in the end as well, not just NS. As I’ve said, I’m a big fan of the symbolism & mirroring Kishi did with them, so I’m planning on playing that out in Kaika as well.
I can understand how that might not be someone’s cup of tea, but I’ve always been real about what this story will be in terms of pairings.
As for her & Konoha sensory, well, I have let’s say other plans. At the moment Karin is very well focused on discovering more about her Uzumaki roots. And that’s all I will say for now. 👀
As for Hanabi, sorry, must’ve escaped my mind. In Kaika she’s currently the heiress of the Hyuga and as you’ll see from the written version, there’s some subplot involving her, a treasured Hyuga secret & the complications of being the heiress & having access to such a secret and trying to mend the relationship with her sister. But anyway, read the written version and you’ll see for yourself.
And as I said, in Kaika, Neji Hyuga will be brought back to the cast. 👀
As for the details of how that’ll happen, all I can say is just to follow the story. 👀🤭
Anyway, thanks once again for your interest in Kaika. Highly appreciated! 🙏 Hope you enjoy the written version! 😊

Theory: The P5 Collab is the Start of Multiverse Shenanigans
So apparently the P5 collab and the in-story crossover are separate.  This makes the fact that both have story scenes kind of awkward and potentially contradictory.  Are Wonder and Joker going to meet for the first time twice?
Most likely the way this is going to be solved is with the tried and true method of giving everyone a memory wipe at the end of the collab.  This would allow the collab to occupy the “technically canon, functionally non-canon” space that many Persona spin-offs occupy.  This method is also really boring and I hope they don’t do it.
Here’s an alternative: What if the collab PTs and the story crossover PTs are different versions of the characters?  The multiverse is a thing in Persona even if it’s only been utilized in Q2, so it’s been established that multiple versions of characters can exist.  And if you’re going to introduce the same group of characters two different times in the same game maybe it’s because they’re separate versions?
And maybe the collab PTs are going to represent the “canon” versions, and the ones from the story crossover are going to explicitly be an alternate version after the events in the Casino are completely derailed by P5X interlopers.
Bonus theory, even less likely than the above theory: If collab/canon Joker is explicitly Ren Amamiya, maybe AU Joker is Akira Kurusu?  Very unlikely because ATLUS now seems to want to keep a consistent brand with “canon names”, but it would go a long in emphasizing that these are two different versions of the character.
Ooo, that would actually legitimately be so fun! And it’d be great to get to derail the casino’s proper ending so thoroughly that it has to be considered an alternate universe, haha.
I’ll admit I’m not entirely clear how separate the collab events are from the main story, though the fact that they’re calling it a “collab” at all seems to be telling. A memory wipe at the end does seem like historically ATLUS’ favorite solution, although if the collab really does occur over time (as somewhat implied by it starting while both groups are in their first Palace), it’d have to be a much more delicate memory wipe than the usual, haha. It honestly doesn’t seem like as smooth a solution as it was in the PQ games or P5T’s DLC. So maybe you’re right that P5X will try something else?
The Ren Amamiya vs. Akira Kurusu naming would be a super nice touch if they do go with separate versions, also, though I think you’re probably right that it’s unlikely. We can dream, I suppose...

Swanfire Month 2022 - Day 26 - Going Home fake memories
I've thought for a while now that based on the show's own description of the rules of the curse and reversing it, the end of Going Home should've been Emma and Henry in the yellow bug, with Neal, August, and Hook squished together in the backseat - since none of them we under the original curse.
i have a lot of in-cohesive thoughts for how to fit false memories into that version so enjoy my ramblings - because while emma kept her real memories up until henry's birth - if the same were true for neal and august then they'd have knowledge of enchanted forest and that there's a curse, and neal would have memories of hook - so all those memories get replaced with 'non-magic AU' versions of their lives(?). if anything emma and henrys memories are the same as canon except (on a similar timeline to when he showed up in their lives in s2) neal re-entered their lives and reconciled. they never got married though but definitely in a long term relationship once they work through their issues. emma, neal, and henry all live in that same apartment together. part of the rationale on regina's part would be (in headcanon) fake memories she gave to emma may have been real memories of regina's (as a single parent to henry) - so she doesn't have as much to give neal, and in part (in my fanon) regina and neal have had multiple one on one interactions and talked about henry, talked about regrets , come to mutual understanding/respect, and 'would you do it over differently' & he even though he would want to be there for emma and henry all of those years, he's the type of person who doesn't want to re-do the past (eg rejecting rumples offer to be a boy again) & who doesn't want to forgive himself for his mistakes so easily but rather earn his way back to emma and to henry.
what helps work through issues is august formally introducing himself to emma and explaining why he orchestrated her going to jail (...something they doesnt involve a curse???, but does involve him thinking he knows/knowing where their birth parents (snow, charming, gepetto) are. when they track down the lead over some years, it turns out they've since died so part of the "happy memories" is getting some closure on. and tracking down that lead is the reason they'd left boston and ew york and thailand to go to maine and why they were all in the car together. neal retains his memories of his time in new york pre-s2 and goes back to his same job or gets a similar one (since he probably stopped showing up with little to no notice and went off the grid). there's at least one friend of acquaintance of neal's who doesn't fully buy the story that tamara drove up to maine after neal, had some blowout fight and ran off with her side piece to live on an island somewhere (the same week he reconnects with the one that got away and his long lost son??) - and keeps up on the local news in maine for any unidentified remains in the woods or off the coast. it could work to have manhattan play out in a very similar way - neal was abandoned as a child by his father intentionally or accidentally; years later when his father is dying of illness or old age (heart problems) he finally gets a lead to track neal down but needs the assistance of someone like emma. neal and his father do get to briefly reconcile and say their goodbyes on his deathbed (no magic candles to save him).
anged my mind - if on the same timeline from s2 manhattan to s3a going home thats what only a matter of weeks?? neal coming back from maine in a matter of weeks with new live in girlfriend, long lost son and fiance tamara no where to be seen - multiple people would call the police. why can't they just be happy?? osomehow its been at least 3 years since neal reentered their lives in boston/ny or otherwise they skip ny and go straight to tallahassee and no need to deal with neal's former life in ny.
And to top it off in theory add all of the lost boys in tow (school bus for a joy ride?) as well. Hook (maybe Neal too?) run a group home for boys - part of the mission is to help them get into college and to avoid getting tricked into a life owed to the military (given hook's own bad experience in the navy). hooks memories are mostly overhauled (i.e. no preexisting relation to neal, rumple, milah). they got stuck up in maine on a field trip? camping trip? college visit?
and fortunate side effect of neal not going to enchanted forest: rumples not resurrected, zelena doesnt have the pieces she needs so doesnt go after snowing baby, so snowing doesnt cast the curse at all or they cast without zelenas interference & easily reunite with emma, neal, henry, etc

This is kind of just me ranting about how a fandom treats a system-coded character and how I have a love hate relationship with it, so don’t mind it if you aren’t interested in reading about FNAF or my own personal opinions on it.
I sometimes forget the fact that the canonical version of the Daycare Attendant in FNAF: SB plays right into harmful DID/OSDD stereotypes. One, because they’re a sub-system within my system and have source memories completely different from canon. Two because I have tried over and over to figure out ways in canon that they are a system where Moon isn’t actually playing into the evil alter stereotype. It’s a comfort thing, I know, for both me and them, but in a way I feel like that’s hurting the community. So many people online say “don’t headcanon this character as having DID/OSDD or you’re a bad person for pushing harmful stereotypes”.
I myself am part of a system. I know how detrimental these types of stereotypes are. I’ve actively seen people, in real life, fear systems because of something stupid they saw in media. I don’t want to say “this is system-coded” about potentially harmful media. But at the same time, Moon Knight is the best representation we have out there. One of the only good representations I should say, and even that was dramatically overdone to keep viewers watching. When I find a piece of media that I can see as being DID/OSDD coded, I have a bad habit of latching on and not letting go because seeing that representation is just rare. So when I saw Sun and Moon I just clicked. It didn’t help that I was going through my system discovering around the games release date and it was probably the first time I saw a piece of media (outside of the movie we all hate with a passion) that had hints of DID/OSDD representation.
I am 100% on board with saying that singlets shouldn’t headcanon characters as DID/OSDD coded. I feel like that really should be true for any mental disorder. If you don’t have it, you don’t get a say in how it’s represented. But at the same time, I don’t think we should be attacking people over it when they aren’t even thinking about how Moon acted. Most people who see multiple people in one body are going to think of DID. Most people don’t even know the evil alter stereotypes exists, because they don’t engage in system spaces. I certainly didn’t, not until we started engaging in them. Being rude to people who genuinely meant no harm is just going to make us look bad. You can still say “hey, as a system, here’s why this is wrong”, but don’t start saying that you hate everyone who does it and harass them over it. If they continue to push it, that’s a different story, but most people are genuinely shocked when I explain to them that certain characters are terrible representations of DID/OSDD.
Anyways, I also hate the fact that there’s no representation of Sun and Moon being a system in the fan base either. I’ve seen several systems who claim Sun and Moon as a system for comfort reasons, but I never see them try to fix the bad part of the representation. If there was an AU where the bad parts of the representation were fixed I’d latch onto it in a heartbeat. I honestly don’t see why people don’t do that. Tell people what’s wrong, fix it, and then give them a version that they are able to actually see and understand. Make sure they don’t advertise the actual canon as having good representation, but there’s a really good AU to look into if you are looking for good representation.
This is just me rambling so idk. It’s almost 6:00 in the morning and I haven’t slept. If you read through all that mess, Sunny says have a gold star ⭐️

FFXIV : My muse has been dead for some time…Send ✟ for your muse to meet them in the Palace of the Dead.
Thank you so much for the ask @adellennehocoleux!
Tumblr media
No one had believed the tale. Their Warrior of Light had met their match? Truly? Was the world ending? She had fought so many battles, won so many wars, how could she lose? But the citizens of Eorzea had forgotten an important lesson:
                          She was only ONE PERSON.
And now? Now she was LIFELESS. Voices screamed her name as her weapon thumped to the ground. Limbs crumbled as blood dripped. The enemy’s lips curved into a wide grin, revealing sharp wicked teeth, before they dove in for the FINAL KILL. Her allies raced towards her, but Calypso knew it was TOO LATE. She wouldn’t survive; but neither would this beast. And so, with her own grin in place, the Warrior of Light pulled the pin.
Fire blasted the area, flying up as bodies were thrown back. The gurgling of blood sputtered from the fighter’s lips as she lay motionless, staring up a starlit sky. Feet pounded against dirt as her friends tried to heal her. Tried to revive their FALLEN CHAMPION.
Tears were shed, hearts were broken, and the Warrior of Light…
                                      WAS NO MORE.
Tumblr media
It had been YEARS since her death, and life had moved on. Many heroes had come and gone, and yet the title had never been craved for since, for many still remembered their valiant Warrior of Light falling before them. How could anyone want that TITLE after she had carried it for so long? After she had PERISHED with it plastered across her chest?
Dull violet orbs stared at the INVADERS as they advanced towards the final room. The final EXIT. No. She wouldn’t allow it. She had failed her duty in protecting people before, she REFUSED to fail AGAIN. Their hand went for the door handle, ready to open and leave, when something sliced through the air towards them. Quick to get out of the way, the adventurer watched as a bloody AXE pulsed through the door where they once STOOD.
And as they would turn to see where it had come from, their DECEASED Warrior of Light would walk from the darkness, allowing the ambient light to envelop her once more. Blood stained her attire, dirt spread across her face, clothes torn from her last battle. Voice was rasped, for a deep gash spread along her jaw across the warrior’s throat.  She looked just like that day.
Eyes once so full of hope were now dead, and it was her duty to KILL.
                                      TO SLAUGHTER.
For she was no longer their Warrior of Light, but a MINION to the PALACE. Oh, how low had her SOUL had been THROWN. Would they survive against their greatest hero? SHE CARED NOT.
                               “You will not leave alive.”

prepare for a long ask (i’m sorry)
my brain is very full so hear me out-
dream smp casino/mafia au-
now i was at first thinking Kinoko kingdom (karlnapity) are the owners of the casino cause yk Las Nevadas Quackity but then i remembered “Syndicate” (by Derivakat) which has a jazzy vibe and was like, what if the Syndicate was a mafia ‘family’ that ran a casino and reader is their star performer who starts off every night with a performance of “Syndicate”. reader’s performance is used to kinda establish the Syndicate’s power over the casino and to remind the patrons anything they do will be under the scrutiny of a mafia with literally two of the most renowned mafiosos’ (Philza whose reputation of traveling all over and taking down many a mafia family precedes him and Technoblade who has taken down mafia families singlehandedly) in the city, maybe even the entire country.
the Eggpire is like a rival mafia that is trying to take control over the city so it isn’t uncommon for them to try and infiltrate the Syndicate casino. so i was thinking, what if the people who are Pro-Omlette (but not in the Syndicate so Puffy, Foolish (since it’s not confirmed he’s part of the Syndicate), Awesamdude and Eret) are staff at the casino. they were each like a lone agent after their mafia family split up/they left and decided to join forces with the Syndicate to make sure the Eggpire didn’t gain total control of the city. Maybe Sam is a bodyguard stationed either outside the casino or manning security cameras switching with Puffy, Eret can be like a stage manager/backstage to aid the performers and make sure no one sneaks into the dressing rooms or the light control area backstage and Foolish is like a bartender keeping an eye out on the main floor of the casino for any activity.
Dream was the former head of the well-renowned Dream Team mafia family until the family split. he’s notorious for breaking apart mafia families before disappearing into the night and traveling to a new city. occasionally he’ll hire some aid but they never last long.
Ponk used to be an on-sight medic for the casino in cause of bar fights or performers getting injured on stage but after many rumors (later confirmed to be true) of him being a member of the Eggpire he was fired and not allowed to enter the premise of the casino again.
Kinoko Kingdom was a rival casino/mafia family to the Syndicate’s but they’ve decided to have a truce to make sure Dream and/or the Eggppire don’t take over their city. Their casinos have different vibes with the Syndicate’s being more of a hub for mafia and business activity with jazzy music on the constant and famous for civilized and tame yet very entertaining entertainment whilst Kinoko’s casino is like more of a rowdy type casino, famous for high stake bets, drinks with high alcohol content and lively music and entertainment that can be seen as a bit too glitzy and tacky. Like you go to Syndicate casino for a night of business deals and building yourself up to the top, the type of casino you would bring your boss to, whilst the Kinoko casino is the type of casino you go to let loss and risk it all with cheap entertainment and even cheaper booze. their truce works out because their casinos are so different that competition wouldn’t be worth the cash (and the Syndicate knows they can easily take on the Kinoko mafia in a fight but shhhh)
there’s multiple places a reader character could fight but as a primarily Technoblade simp at heart i had to put reader as a performer in the Syndicate casino-

DSMP x Reader (in-game)
Summary: Request
Warnings: None?
A/N: Okay… I have a few important things to say. First of all, this story is not completed. This request is so genuinely good and I have been trying to work on it for far too long and have had very little success. With that being said I still want to publish the small bit of this story that I’m proud of.
Second of all, I would like any other dsmp writers on this platform to feel free to take this request and perhaps do with it what I wasn’t able to. If you write this story, please tag me because I’d love to see what you do with it. You can also use this bit I have written and am sharing to start off your own version of the story (just give proper credit)!
With all of that out of the way, please enjoy!
The Syndicate. One of the highest-end casinos in the country, and certainly the most powerful, being run by two of the best-known mafiosos.
Philza was best known for his travel, being able to track down anyone anywhere and take care of them.
Technoblade was easily the scariest man you could meet. He’d single-handedly taken down more mafia families at the age of 21 than most senior-aged mafiosos could even dream of.
It was rare to see either of the men in the casino, let alone to see them together, so when the pair came through the doors with power in their steps everyone knew something serious was in order.
They took their seats at the bar as Foolish prepared their drinks and Eret directed the casino's attention to the stage.
This performance was a nightly occurrence, the same jazzy tune came from the band's instruments as Y/N emerged from the curtain.
Hey, I'll tell you a little secret of mine
If you promise not to tell, if you have the time
Everyone has gotten you, always on the run
But if you join the Syndicate
Life could get a little more fun
It was the song of the casino, used to remind everyone just how much power it holds.
When all of the horses and all of the men
Won't learn from history, it's all the same in the end
I've told you once and I'll tell you again
The Syndicate is looking for a couple new friends
It reminds the patrons of the casino that no matter what they do, the Syndicate is always watching, studying each of them in hopes of finding some new friends.
Fight for freedom, fight to end the pain
Hey, this is serious, it's not just some little game
'Cause the anarchy's part of me, tyranny bothers me
End it all properly once and for all
They call us the villains 'cause they know we'll take the fall
The members of the Syndicate were a force to be reckoned with, composed of strong fighters and quick thinkers constantly working to take down anyone that dare stand in their way.
The Eggpire was their current concern. Run by a man named BadBoyHalo, the Eggpire was a whole other breed of mafiosos.
They preached about the Egg, whatever the hell that was supposed to be, and always wore a signature red color that made them easy to spot. Sometimes you could even swear there was a red glint in their eyes when talking about it.
After the incident with Ponk, their old medic that got caught up in the red whirlwind, the Syndicate became extra wary of the Eggpire, willing to do just about anything to take them down.
This is exactly why the two most powerful men were sitting together at the Syndicate’s bar with their eyes locked on the stage.
Fight for freedom, fight to end the pain
Hey, this is serious, it's not just some little game
'Cause the anarchy's part of me, tyranny bothers me
End it all properly once and for all
They call us the villains 'cause they know we'll take the fall
When all of the horses and all of the men
Won't learn from history, it's all the same in the end
I've told you once and I'll tell you again
The Syndicate is looking for a couple new friends
Oh, a couple new friends
Oh, oh, oh, oh
Oh no, no
You'll gain a couple new friends
As the jazzy instrumentals faded out, Eret poked his head out of the curtain on the side of the stage, gesturing for the resident singer to come backstage.
Y/N smiled at the audience and walked through the velvet barrier to be greeted by the deep-voiced brunette.
“Did you see who’s out there tonight?” They asked him.
“That's why I called you, they wanna see you.”
Y/N took a deep breath and headed out onto the main floor.
They’d been part of the Syndicate for most of their life and knew they weren’t in any danger near Techno and Phil, but the anxiety still pounded in their head as they approached the men.
Y/N sat on the stool next to Technoblade and the two turned their stools to face them.
“Lovely performance!” Phil praised
They shot him a kind smile and braced themself for the inevitable harsh news that would follow the attempted small talk.
“We need you to do something.” Techno said bluntly. “You know Las Nevadas?”
“Yeah, of course.”
It was another casino ran by Kinoko Kingdom, another mafia family. They used to be considered one of the biggest threats to the Syndicate because they had quite literally appeared overnight and nobody knew anything. Once the Eggpire popped up though, it was safest to become fast friends with the three men that ran Las Nevadas in hopes of strengthening their forces against the red abomination infecting families all over.
“We had a meeting with Quackity and he’s got a bad feeling about some guests that have been stopping by their area. It’s a shitty casino, we all know that, but he thinks it’s more than just some random troublemakers.”

ok NOW I have time to talk about the v3 ending for a second and why the popular belief that the audition tapes were real is one of the most baffling things to me. don’t get me wrong, ‘pregame’ has the capacity to be an interesting au if done correctly, and there’s fun to be had with it, but the writing in the game does not actually encourage you to believe in its existence and it’s so odd to me that it’s taken as hard fast canon.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I mean, actually, you technically can check. I think this is the writing deliberately encouraging the player to revisit the prologue and see that the way tsumugi described it happening in the trial is not actually what happened.
Tumblr media
number two, they claim that the prologue of the story began after they got their costume changes, which is also obviously not true. it started when they came out of the lockers in their ordinary school uniforms. (seems like tsumugi is indirectly trying to divert attention away from that point that the player has access to, claiming that it is not part of the story.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
shuichi specifically flashbacks to this moment. they go on for like three minutes talking about how everything tsumugi said could’ve been bs.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
they literally end on that note of shuichi refusing to believe they auditioned, and very ambiguously too. they didn’t actually give anyone any incentive to believe what happened during the trial–in fact, they encouraged otherwise.
amidst all the ambiguity, the only lead the game really gives you is the one that tells you to replay the prologue to confirm where the characters can’t. the attention drawn to this particular inconsistency between the prologue and the final trial feels very purposeful, not to mention shuichi’s lack of belief towards it. the difference is glaringly apparent. like I said, it draws attention.
Tumblr media
of course, they don’t resolve it at all and the whole game ends on a big maybe, but again, the only lead they give the player is revisiting the prologue. they want you to see how it’s inconsistent. the truth is not supposed to be set in stone.
there were a couple other things I wanted to mention.
one, prior to being refitted as ultimates in the prologue, all of the characters remembered being kidnapped. if they had willingly signed up for the killing game, why in the world would they need to be kidnapped? why would all of them seem so confused about what’s happening if they had knowingly auditioned for danganronpa? if they’d already had their memories wiped at that point to prepare them for new memories, why let them remember that they were kidnapped? it seems very convenient for tsumugi that nobody remembers anything from before they transformed into ultimates… but the player does.
Tumblr media
even tsumugi’s explanation of the prologue flashback makes very little logical sense. if all of them really were fans of danganronpa in some regard, they would probably know right away that they were going to appear on the show; there wouldn’t be any room for confusion. if tsumugi’s account was even accurate in the slightest, and there was somehow some dialogue that was obstructed from the player during the prologue, it seems infeasible that it would take them so long to realize what was happening because they would have suspected it the moment they woke up in a dark, mysterious school and were asked to gather at the gym.
not to mention, why the heck would they show kaede and kaito’s audition tapes and not maki and himiko’s–y’know–the two other people that were actually there? it’s like this “evidence” was handpicked for the protagonist… oh wait.
two, ever since I noticed the implication that maki is not affected by flashback lights, it puts a whole new perspective on every story she tells in the game and even her placement and purpose in the killing game itself. I feel like this theory speaks for itself, especially when you take into account maki’s story about going to a convention (tsumugi in her natural habitat) to kill a target, and failing.
Tumblr media
three, kinda.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
all three of their school uniforms in their audition tapes are distinctly inconsistent with their sprites.
after I noticed shuichi’s, I was about to pass this off as another dumb artistic mistake, but then I checked kaede’s and kaito’s and found the same exact thing.
let me point them out if you can’t see them very well: shuichi has 3 buttons on his uniform, not 2, kaede has 1 stripe on her uniform and not 2, and kaito’s buttons are black on his shirt in his sprite and rather ordinary in the audition tape. also, shuichi’s shoes look light brown, even though they kinda match his hair on the sprite. the inside of kaito’s jacket collar is also white on the sprite, while it isn’t in the tape.
… I really wish I could say this is a striking observation and all, and possibly even intended to be proof that the tapes were fake, but also… I’ve made a post about the art inconsistencies in this game before. I failed to notice this one at the time, but v3 is not known for the quality and consistency of its art. a couple of kaede’s prologue cgs show her with two stripes as well. heck, the one of her being kidnapped up there is one of them. when I realized that all three of the audition tapes had inconsistencies with the official character designs, I got my hopes up a little… but we can’t win ‘em all, huh.
anyway, long story short, the epilogue implies one thing: it’s that 1) the prologue is different from how tsumugi explained it, 2) the player has the power to revisit it to confirm this, and 3) the game wants you to revisit it to confirm this, deliberately drawing attention to the incongruity of the two tales. the version of the prologue that the players see is not part of tsumugi’s grand story. last of all… it’s just my own theory about the game itself, but I think tsumugi was full of shit and the players were never supposed to take what she said as the simple truth to begin with, especially due to the narrative encouragement to distrust it.
it’s clear that the game planned for ambiguity and multiple interpretations and reception, thanks to all the ‘maybes’ it ends on… but isn’t it so strange that fans seem more willing to trust tsumugi’s contradictory account rather than the distrust of the main characters that has so much attention drawn to it? nobody knows what’s in the outside world… and that’s the point.

What is your opinion on the DustTrust AU or any dust au's surround underswap
This is all my opinion so don’t get mad at me,
buuuuut I’m not a big fan of dust AU’s in general. Because
It just seems very edgy and it has a very toxic community around it (also and I know saying this fandom is toxic is redundant but it’s still true). plus it’s story makes no sense considering in Undertale sans doesn’t remember the Genocide runs. He only has faint memories of the True pacifist runs.
And about DustTrust, the same reasons that I said about dust AU’s applies here.
The only difference is I find it to be WORST than other dust AU communities.
Because the original team that worked on DustTrust (before the multiple reboots) was absolutely awful. Now don’t get me wrong I think that sawsk (the creator of DustTrust) is a great guy and my best friend.
But even he agrees that he was a horrible person back when he was named UF!Memesans. And even AFTER all the reboots for DustTrust.
the community was still extremely toxic, the team was still bad and disorganized, and game leaks were EVERYWHERE. Trust me as a person that used to work the current version of DustTrust (the one that was being made by sawsk and co.) I can definitely say that DustTrust and Dust AU’s in general are not the best AU’s
Again this is all my opinion. So I hope you understand where I’m coming from

LMK fandom: Oh, what do we do about this guy who has nothing but hurt Xiaotian, tried to replace Sun Wukong and his crew, hurt Tripitaka and ordered servants to cannibalize a monkey? Oh I know! We’ll turn him into our little meow meow~ he’s so innocent and Sun Wukong is obviously the villain!
What doesn’t help is this idea is perpetuated by multiple fan fic writers and artists for some reason. Especially some aus they make that turn SWK into a bastard for the sake of the story rather than considering cultural context and thinking they should be respectful.
And almost everyone lets them get away with it just because the art or fanfic is good and they get so popular that no one can point what is actually wrong without feeling like they’re going to get attacked.
I'm starting to feel like my blog is the one anons go to specifically to vent their frustrations about the Six Eared Macaque in his lego monkey show form & the associated fandom lmao. But I guess this makes sense, as I’ve had fun quasi-dragging him before & will in fact use this anon submission as an opportunity to have my own, to put it academically, bitch fest about not just this fandom's favorite protagonist-traumatizing meow meow, but about the way villains are often treated in not just fanon, but increasingly in canon works as well. But same policy as with the last anon; I'll post my opinions below the cut, and as fandoms love to say, don’t like don't read if you don't want to see me dunking on the six eared simian & common fandom tendencies towards villains.
Oh man I would say where would you even begin with this but anon you’ve pretty much started yourself with my main gripe with a lot of ways that the Six-Eared Macaque is portrayed in fandom; there seems to be this unspoken agreement that his acts of violence towards Sun Wukong, Qi Xioatian, and Qi Xioatian’s loved ones are either to be framed as somewhat or totally justified, to be immediately forgiven/excused, or to simply & completely be ignored. Like friends maybe this is just me not seeing the proper posts but while the fandom is inundated with art and fanfics of Macaque as a generally decent individual & a true member of team good guy, I have yet to see one person address the fact that this monkey literally kidnapped & mind-controlled Xiaotian’s best friend and father figures & forced them to brutalize Xiaotian while ol’ Six Ear looked on and laughed (X_X). Like this kind of fandom villain treatment is definitely not something that’s solely at work for Monkie Kid, but it is kind of nutty how fandoms will swing between yelling that people should be allowed to like villains without even mild critique, and then will just flat-out not address the villainous behavior, and will even bend over backwards to frame even characters who committed genocide as just poor innocent widdle victims who need a hug. At its worst, I’ve even seen tons of people in a fandom get really angry at other people who don’t like a villain, and will even start accusing those people of hating real-life mentally disabled or abused individuals all because they don’t like the fandom’s favorite literal war criminal. The Monkie Kid fandom is FAR more chill & better than a lot of other fandoms I’ve come across in that regard, but that is an exceedingly low bar, & the tendency to woobify certain kinds of villains-- as with Macaque and the extreme emphasis on his bad boy/sad boy thing--is very much at work.
I’ve also talked before about a kind of monoculturalization of certain character interpretations and story beats in fandoms, and one of the more popular ones that seems to be applied to Macaque a lot is the “hero actually bad, villain actually good” cliche, as observable from the general fandom assumption that Mr. Six-Ears he wasn’t even slightly lying or remembering things through a rose-tinted or skewed lens when he gave his version of his and Sun Wukong’s past. Like at this point it seems the possibility that people WILL NOT even consider is that Sun Wukong never did & still doesn't care that much about the Six Eared Macaque (in JTTW they weren’t sworn brothers & in Monkie Kid the only thing the monkey king really said to Macaque before attacking him was a pretty contemptuous "Aren't you ever going to get sick of living under my shadow?," & responds to his "beloved friend" getting blown up with "You did good, bud" to Qi Xiaotian, who did the exploding), or that their original fight may in fact have mostly been instigated by Macaque. After all, to repeat what this anon summarized & what I've said before about their original JTTW context (& in an example of the things that do feel like it's often lost in translation) is that the Six Ear Macaque was a villain not just because he beat up the Tang Monk, but because he wanted to take over Sun Wukong's entire life and identity so he could have all that glory, prestige, and power for himself. To quote the macaque himself from the Anthony C. Yu translation, "I struck the T'ang monk and I took the luggage...precisely because I want to go to the West all by myself to ask Buddha for the scriptures. When I deliver them to the Land of the East, it will be my success and no one else's. Those people of the South Jambudvipa Continent will honor me then as their patriarch and my fame will last for all posterity." And in order to do this, the Six Eared Macaque had apparently made Sun Wukong's "little ones," his monkey family, his captives through either trickery or force, and gotten a number of them to take on the appearance of Tang Sanzang and the other pilgrims. It's also made clear that in very direct contrast to Sun Wukong, he doesn't care about these monkeys beyond how they might serve him. In fact, after Sha Wujing kills the monkey posing as him the Six Eared Macaque not only all but immediately replaces him with another, but also "told his little ones to have the dead monkey skinned. Then his meat was taken to be fried and served as food along with coconut and grape wines." So this monkey is not only willing to risk the lives of a lot of other monkeys for his own personal benefit, but is also a literal cannibal. And yes yes, I know a lot of people have argued that Monkie Kid shouldn't be considered a direct sequel to JTTW & that's fair enough (for example, Sun Wukong probably shouldn't be smashing anyone into a meat patty in a children's cartoon lol). And of course, it needs to be noted that there are a buttload of really out there & really cursed pieces of media based on JTTW & that were created in China. Yet the above description is the oft-ignored in the west original facet of the Six Eared Macaque's character. And it is this selfishness, entitlement, and treatment of other individuals as tools for his own self-serving ends  that is, from where I’m standing, still very much present in Monkie Kid. Like besides repeatedly going out of his way to physically and psychologically traumatize Xioatian, with the last episode Macaque seemed to be going right back to his manipulative ways. I’ve seen people frame their last conversation as Macaque softening to Xioatian a little bit, but personally that read a lot more like that common tactic among abusers where even after they’ve hurt you they’ll dangle something you want or need over your head (in Macaque’s case, the promise of desperately needed training and information about a serious looming threat), with the implication that you’ll only get it if you do what they want you to, such as, in this case, Xioatian going back to Macaque as his student even after having been so terribly hurt by this monkey, which would give Macaque power over Xiaotian and probably Sun Wukong as a result. And it is this violence and manipulation that it seems the fandom at large has tacitly decided shouldn’t even be addressed, instead leaning more towards a (and this is an exaggeration) “Six-Eared Macaque my poor meow meow Sun Wukong has always been bad & has always been wrong about literally everything” reading.
And while it is the case that I am not Chinese and feel that as such it would be best left to someone who actually comes from that background to provide more context into how common interpretations of the Six Eared Macaque from China may clash really badly with the stuff the western fandom creates, it also must be noted that, as much as we all want to have fun in fandom & in spite of all the out-there versions of JTTW from China, we westerners should recognize that there is a very long and very ugly history of western countries stripping other cultures’ important religious and literary works for parts & mashing them into their own thing while implying or even insisting that what they present provides a true understanding of the original piece. And while I trust most individuals in regards to Monkie Kid are able to step back and think “this is a lego cartoon and not a set guide for how I should understand JTTW” (especially given the insistence that JTTW and Monkie Kid should be considered there own separate works) there does nevertheless seem to be something of a tendency to take the conclusions people come to, for example, about Sun Wukong’s characteristic in his lego form & then assume that’s just reflective to Sun Wukong as a totality. I imagine a good portion of this is due to people not reading JTTW & especially to not having easy access to solid information or answers about JTTW’s many different facets (like geez awhile ago I was trying to get a clear answer on what is considered the most accurate translation of the names of Sun Wukong’s six sworn brothers & got like 5 different responses lmao), but that tendency to take a western fandom interpretation & run with it instead of doing any background research or questioning said interpretation is still very much at play. As such, & as made prominent in the way people have been interpreting the dynamic between Sun Wukong and the Six Eared Macaque in the lego monkey show, tbh it does seem kind of shitty for western creators & audience to sometimes go really out of their way to ignore all of this original cultural & narrative context for the sake of Angst (TM) in Macaque's favor, demonizing Sun Wukong, and shipping the monkey king with his evil twin (X_X).
And speaking of which, even beyond the potential inherent creepiness & revulsion that can be inspired by this specific ship given common interpretations of the og classic's original meaning (again, it's my understanding, given both summaries of translated Chinese academic texts I've been kindly provided with, my own reading of the Anthony C. Yu translation of JTTW, & vents from a number of Chinese people I've seen on this site, that the Six-Eared Macaque is commonly interpreted in China as having originated from Sun Wukong himself as a living embodiment of his worst traits, hence why only Buddha can tell the difference between them & why the monkey king is much more slow to violence after he kills the macaque), I'd argue that in the face of all the uwu poor widdle meow meow portrayals lego show Macaque is, especially if you include JTTW's events, still in the role of “Sun Wukong but worse” as he is very much a violent & selfish creep. Like he was basically running around in JTTW wearing a Sun Wukong fursuit, but there he had the sole reason of wanting to replace Sun Wukong wholesale so he could have all the good things in the monkey king's life without actually having to work as hard for them. But if you combine that with Macaque now claiming that he used to be best friend with Sun Wukong in his pre-journey days (something that's made funny from a JTTW context given that that status actually belongs to the Demon Bull King lol), his original violence has now blown into this centuries long and really unhealthy obsession with the monkey king. Like he's apparently gone from wanting to literally be Sun Wukong to being so obsessed with getting revenge on Sun Wukong that he's got basically nothing else going on in his life. Like he's only appeared in two episodes but...does he have any friends? Any family? A career or even a hobby that DOESN'T center the monkey king? Anything at all outside of his "get revenge on and/or kill Sun Wukong/use his successor as my personal punching bag” thing? Like dude! That is extremely creepy and extremely bad for everyone all around! As I’ve said before, this seeming refusal to see beyond the past or to do something that doesn’t involve Sun Wukong in some capacity is a trait that makes Macaque an interesting and somewhat tragic villain--he even seems to be working as Sun Wukong’s reflection in a mirror darkly, with lego show Sun Wukong pretty clearly not being able to heal from his own past which is hinted to be defined by one loss after another, and with Monkie Kid even kind of having these two characters somewhat follow their JTTW characterizations in that in the latter half of the journey Sun Wukong often gets sad & starts crying in the face of what seems insurmountable odds (& Monkie Kid Sun Wukong does seem to be hiding some serious depression behind a cheerful facade), whereas the Six-Eared Macaque retains a worse version of Sun Wukong’s pre-journey characteristic of getting pissed and lashing out if things don’t go his way--but it’s also what would make any current friendship or romantic relationship between these monkeys horrific. Although to be fair even the fandom seems to recognize this in an unconscious way, in that a lot of the art & fanfic seems to swing erratically between them kissing & screaming at each other in yet another example of bog-standard fandom adulation of romanticized toxic relationships lol.
At the end of the day, of course, this is nothing new. You'll find versions of this dynamic across a ton of fandoms and now even canonical work. And as such, I can only look at this kind of popularized relationship dynamic with a kind of resigned weariness whenever it pops up, & my frustrated question with the popularity of this kind of pairing is the exact same one that I have for a multitude of blatantly toxic villain/hero ships, given common fandom discourse & the tendency to either ignore or justify the villain's actions & demonize the hero: if you're THAT convinced that everything is the hero's fault, if you believe THAT much that the hero is the one in the wrong for the villain's pain and their subsequent actions, then why are you so set on them not only becoming a romantic pair, but framing this get-together as a good thing? Like I know we contain multitudes but that's waaay too many contradictions for me to wrap my head around. And it definitely doesn’t help that one branch of underlying reasoning behind this kind of pairing seems to be the ever-present “you break it, you fix it” mentality, where the assumption is that if you’re in a failing, abusive, and/or generally toxic relationship (platonically or romantically), if you put in enough time and effort & attempts to compromise, you’ll be able to restore/have the relationship you dreamed of, even with someone who hurt you really badly. And this assumption isn’t limited to fandom: I’d even argue that it’s everywhere in the culture, hence why a lot of people feel like they “failed” if they have to get a divorce or make the choice to leave an unhealthy friendship. Personally, I feel like people could really benefit from more stories about how it is not only the case that the people you hurt don’t owe you their forgiveness & you can still become a better and happier person without the one you hurt in your life, & that while it can be really hard it can also be a good thing to leave a relationship, even if it’s one that once meant a lot to you.
But in all honestly, from my own perspective this kind of pairing is starting to read far less like enemies to lovers and far more like a horrible fantasy where you can pull whatever shit you want, even on the people you "love," & never be held accountable for your terrible behavior or even have to consider that maybe you were in the wrong. It's another facet that makes me larf every time I see people insist that fandom is an inherently "transformative" or "progressive" form of storytelling like friends you are literally just taking status quo toxic monogamy & rebranding it as somehow beneficial & romantic (X_X).
But as to anon’s last frustration, it is hard to know what is the appropriate response with this kind of thing...like for my own part I’m keeping my frustrations to my blog & now increasingly to posts that you would have to click on the “read more” button to see what I have to say, but I totally get the hesitation to give even a mild critique to big names in a fandom. Like I've now seen it happen repeatedly where someone who has a big name in a fandom will make something that's kind of shitty for one reason or another, someone will message them with some version of "hey, that's kind of shitty, you shouldn't do that," and the typical response is either to blatantly ignore the issue completely, or more popularly to make a giant crying circus that seems deliberately geared towards stoking emotions on both sides of the, for example, fiction does/doesn't affect reality issue so that something that didn't even have to be that big a deal gets blown out of all proportion, with the big name often framing what often started out as a very mild critique into a long crying jag about how the initial response to their kind of shitty thing was so mean/cruel and they're just a poor innocent & that YOU'RE the true racist/sexist/bigot etc. if you don't agree with their opinion. It must of course be noted that there have also been numerous instances of people taking it too far the other way & sending not just big names but smaller creators literal deaths threats over stuff like innocuous ships which like holy hell bells people that’s a horrible thing to do. But for the big names at least, the end result of all this fighting is usually that once the dust has settled they have more attention/fame/money/power in the fandom than before, and with anyone who might have a problem with their stuff feeling afraid to voice their opinion lest they be swarmed by that person's fans. In that way fandom does often seem to increasingly be geared towards presenting an “official” fandom perspective about various facets of a piece of media instead of allowing for a multitude of interpretations, and with criticism, no matter its shape or form or how genuinely warranted it may be, being hounded out of existence. I feel like a lot of this could be made less bad if there wasn’t this constant assumption & even drive to think that a different interpretation of or criticism of your favorite work of fiction or your fanwork isn’t a direct claim that you are a thoroughly loathsome individual (& maybe also if people cultivated an enjoyment of learning things about important works from a culture outside their own, even if what you learn clashes with your own initial understandings), but I guess we’ll see if that ever happens.
So these are my general thinks about the Six Eared Macaque’s current fandom meow meow status & some of my bigger gripes with fandom tendencies as a whole. I stand by my idea that the most interesting & beneficial route for Macaque moving forward would be a kind of “redemption without forgiveness from the ones you hurt” arc--as I think was done pretty excellently with the character Grace in Infinity Train--and if for no other reason than gosh dern this monkey really needs to cultivate some sort of identity beyond his “Sun Wukong but worse” persona.
