The reasons why we're getting Manorian book
There has been a lot of speculation whether SJM is going to favor us with book/novella about Manon Blackbeak and Dorian Havilliard, recently I saw some fans doubting it, so here's a list of logical reasons why it's happening.
1. It's SJM
This woman writes two 500+ pages books per year, for her it would be a piece of cake.
2. There have already been books focused on side characters
a) Chaol and Yrene - Chaol was one of the most unpopular characters before Tower of Dawn (which made me love him hehe) and she still wrote a 600+ pages long book about him, just imagine what she'd do with the most popular character (Manon) and one of the most popular ones (Dorian).
b) Nesta and Cassian - this is ship is the closest to Manorian equivalent in ACOTAR series, aka starting from a physical relationship that develops into a sentimental one. Also 6th ACOTAR book will be focused on a new characters (most probably Elain)
3. Favoritism
SJM has talked multiple times about her love for these two. When asked about her favorite TOG character, she said Aelin, but Manon was a close second place and she said that she absolutely loves writing her.
In another interview, when asked who she would go on a book tour with and a few similar questions, she answered Dorian.
Now, I haven't seen all of her interviews ever and I'm not sure how much she loves Nessian and Cahorene (seems to love Nessian a hella lot tho), but it's definite that Manorian are some of her favorite characters and it's just logical that she would write about them.
4. Unfinished story/Unresolved feelings
Ships at the end of TOG:
Rowaelin - married
Elorcan - engaged
Lysaedion - engaged
Chaorene - married with a baby on the way
Nestaq - engaged
Manorian - hug and "we'll see"
All the ships basically got engaged in the last chapter (it's not like I didn't like it hehe) and their stories, romantic-wise, were pretty much finished and they have no unresolved tension between them. Manorian on the other hand, have enough of it for all the ships lol.
KOA spoilers ahead!
Keep in mind, Manorian relationship was mostly a sexual one, and they don't quite yet have a way of communicating their feelings properly. So there is a lot of unaddressed between them, even though they obviously care a lot about each other.
The unresolved things between Manon and Dorian:
"“And if I asked you to stay?” / “I’d need a very convincing reason, I suppose.” / “Because I don’t want you to go.” - they just fucked and Dorian left for Morath later, which impacted Manon a lot but they haven't discussed it
"I even care about you." - Manon got up and left
"There is only one witch who will be my queen." - Manon doesn't know about this
Manon saved Dorian from Valg demon even when Aelin couldn't. It was the worst thing to happen to Dorian and he still bears scars from it, yet he didn't have an appropriate situation to thank Manon for it
Dorian knows that Erawan lusted after Manon, which got him pissed of course, and he didn't have a chance nor time to ask Manon about it. It might be nothing, but if I were Dorain and my girlfriend who doesn't show feelings was locked up with a crazy guy who has a thing for her, and have seen the way he treats women, I'd be concerned. Erawan was a Valg king, a tough opponent even for Manon. If he had done something to her, and he had plenty of means and opportunities and wish to do so, Manon would never openly tell anyone (maybe Asterin) about it, because it would imply opening up and being weak, which is Manon's worst fear. Again, SJM, as the Queen of Foreshadowing, wouldn't just randomly throw in the main villain having a thing for an important character, everything in her books always has a meaning and purpose.
"Would you miss me if I didn't [come back]?" - Manon didn't reply
This is how SJM described Manorian marriage: "She would be his wife, his queen. She was already his equal, his match, mirror in so many ways. And with their union, the world would know it." - and you're telling me it's not deserving of its own book? Not just that, Manon asked Dorian for marriage and they, again, just had sex, with Dorian loving the idea but deep down knowing that Manon would feel caged in a marriage. And that attitude won't just change out of the blue. It takes time and development which is something SJM writes amazingly.
With the Thirteen gone, beside Abraxos Dorian is the only creature Manon cares about.
Dorian's mortality (although as you'll see in point #6 I'm sure he's not human)
The dreaded "You could just marry each other." / "We'll see." (Thanks Yrene :)
5. Foreshadowing
Listen here, SJM IS THE QUEEN OF FORESHADOWING. She thought of a detail (Dorian's dad's name) in the first book that would matter in the last book. Of course, there are many many many more examples of that, but if we got "We'll see." then we'll fucking see it happen.
6. Unresolved things about Manon and Dorian as individual characters.
Manon and Dorian and both pretty broken at the end of KOA.
Manon lost the Thirteen, the only people she cared about. That is a huge trauma that needs to be addressed, especially with someone so reluctant to show feelings and heal like Manon.
Dorian can't be human?? He has fae abilities due to his relation to Gavin and Elena even though he's not even called a demi-fae. He possesses powers no one else does, phantom hands for example, which he didn't steal like shape-shifting. And Maeve pointed out that due to his father being possessed by Valg when Dorian was sired, it's possible he got some of the Valg abilities. (Also she said that he's stronger than Aelin) The main villain, especially written by Queen of Foreshadowing, wouldn't just let drop it there and that's it. Also not to mention Dorian's own struggle with depression and self-worth.
They have both just become rulers of their kingdoms, completely new to it. Dorian has spent a big part of KOA imagining what kind of a king he wants to be (one that will have a witch queen hehe) and it was a major point of his character. And addition to that affecting them as characters, the future of Adarlan and Witch Kingdom could make a good plotline.
7. Other TOG characters
Although pretty much all the readers would die to see Chaorene baby, Lorcan in Perranth, Aelin and Rowan ruling Terrasen, Lysandra and Adeion officially adopting Evangeline, Nesryn and Sartaq becoming Khagan and Empress of Antica, all of these don't make enough of a plot on its own. They are great side-plots.
We know all of these characters love each other and are happy together, there isn't that much to be added to their personal stories other than kids. (same way Feyre and Rhys got a baby in Nessian book) Manorian however, they haven't even kissed without it leading to sex, they hugged at the end of KOA and it was the pique of their relationship. Their relationship is merely at the beginning, whereas others have pretty much reached their ultimatum (ofc SJM can decide to add some drama with betrayal, kidnapping, pregnancy etc. but for now everyone is good and settled beside Manorian)
Not to mention the way other relationships would affect them. Chaol, Dorian's brother, and Yrene, Manon's wannabe bestie and Manorian shipper, would bring their baby to meet his/her uncle Dorian and aunt Manon, and imagine Manon with a baby lol.
SJM loves Aelin and other characters way too much not to give us an insight on them as married couples, but since her books are huge and it's her, it needs a plot with drama, addressing traumas, repressed feelings, worldbuilding, and sex, and Manorian's got all of that.
8. Abraxos
We need more Abraxos, that's just a fact.
Wow that was a long one. Anyways, in conclusion, we're getting that Manorian book. Pretty sure it's gonna a book rather than a novella (TOD was also planned as a novella but then guess what) because there is just SO MUCH possible content.

Random Nestaq College AU fic (pt 1)
This is a Nestaq (nesryn and sartaq) college AU fic
Shadows cover the paths to the campus library, forcing me to watch my step so I wouldn’t trip over the scattered rocks and twigs. The paths here aren’t well maintained, and there are so many injuries daily I’m pretty sure the school has set some sort of record.
The library building looms in front of me, and I sigh as I push open the doors. What I really need to do is sleep, but I doubt that will happen any time soon. Midterms are in two weeks, and during the day the library is full of students who, despite the librarian’s best efforts, make enough noise that it’s hard to study. I’ve been having to come here at night to get some quiet.
There’s still a lot of people in the library at this time, but they’re much quieter and more reserved, keeping to themselves more than the students there during the day. I wave to the librarian as I pass her desk - dark, polished wood just like the shelves and tables - and she manages a smile while taking an aspirin for the headache the earlier students caused.
I found a corner of the library near the section I would be using most - the one that will hopefully help me pass my first teaching exam. I’m trying to become a PE teacher, and so far the actual teaching and physical portions are going well, but I have trouble with the written portions, and since that’s what my upcoming tests are mostly made up of, I have a lot of work ahead of me.
     Shocker.
Carrying ten pounds of books wouldn’t be so difficult if they weren’t all big, bulky things that kept sliding out of my hands and onto the floor. On the other hand, bending over and picking them up is a great way to get a stretch in. I actually have time to stretch daily, I just- I just don’t like stretching. I can be a pretty patient person, but any patience I’ve ever acquired flies right out the window whenever I try and stretch. I know it’s necessary, but it feels ridiculous.
I’m leaning down to pick up the same book that’s fallen the last three times - a surprisingly thick book about the muscular, skeletal, and nervous systems that makes me want to fall asleep just looking at it - when the other books I’m carrying fall out of my arms too. The crashing noise doesn’t seem to have bothered the librarian - she’s wearing headphones and taking a nap, from what I can tell, but it draws the attention of a man a little older than me, with black hair that falls just below his shoulders and brown skin. He’s walking over, smirking slightly, and he crouches down to help me pick up the fallen books.
He holds onto a few and follows me to my table, despite my insistence I can carry them on my own. He sets them down in the middle of the table, nods his head at me, and says, “I’m Sartaq.”
     “Nesryn.”
He gestures vaguely at the books. “Medical science?”
“PE, actually.” I’m trying to keep my answers short and simple, since I have a lot to do, and the more I chat the less time I have to do it. For whatever reason, though, I can’t ignore my curiosity. “You?”
“Aircraft operations,” he says. “Trying to become a pilot.”
I nod politely, and he waves - a little awkwardly - and walks away, presumably back to his own table to continue studying. I’m not really sure what to make of the awkward wave, but I’m sleep deprived and busy, so I crack open a book to the pages I need and start studying.

Hi there! Same anon from last ask (scenes that you wanted to see) here. Though I love KoA, it did feel lacking in some areas. I was really looking forward to some awesome chemistry with Nestaq and Yorte (Yeran/Borte). Especially with all of those hints SJM was placing! And I totally agree about female Dorian 😍 But also, is it odd that I wanted just some little moments (both romantic and otherwise) blown up more?
Not at all
KoA was a bit overloaded with high-intensity scenes for my taste. I can really only stomach like 1 big battle scene in a book, and KoA had like 5-6. The end result is that it was really sparse on the character-driven content side of things, whereas the rest of the series focused on characters more.
Also, while I love (LOVE) the Yeran/Borte dynamic and the Nesryn/Sartaq ones, if they were going to be that minor of players in KoA then why bother including them in the first place?
IDK, I know I keep saying it, but the series is so bloated. SO SO bloated. The Witches could have been their own series. ToD could have been the beginning of a spin-off series or a series in its own right. There were just too many characters with too little importance.
*waves hand* I won’t rant anymore! I want to keep things positive, but yeah. The content in ToG could have filled 3 series and it just feels like really well crafted and powerful characters were wasted.

Books read 2019: December
Tumblr media Tumblr media
1. The Empty Grave (Lockwood & Co #5) - Jonathan Stroud 👻
I didn’t know this book actually existed until a friend of mine asked if I had read the last one and I was like “the lAsT oNe?? has come oUt??” like it has  only been two years.. but GOD I loved this one so much. Skull is really one of my fav characters and I’m still not sure what happened to him, I try to leave out spoilers. ALL THE LOCKLYLE CONTENT I’M LOVINN also wow that graveyard background scene?? boy is opening up aw~ when he saved her?? and that last moment?? ship is breaking throuuuugh!! This one was as perfect as the other and I’m so sad it’s over. The writing is as amazing and scary as ever, twisting and well done!
2. Empire of Storms (Throne of Glass #5) - Sarah J. Maas ⚰️ (did I have to? Yes)
Holy fu*k.. I. Am. Mindblown. Y’ALL THAT END WTF NOOO. You can really feel how the story is nearing the final battle when everything is coming together. I’m always amazed at Maas’ writing and how magical she makes everything with her words. I ENJOYED when everyone came together god I loved these character so much. Elide looks so small and innocent but she’s brave and cunning af, she’s incredible. And of course I ship Elorcan! Manorian too shit those two just went offff. I’m keeping myself from ranting cuz I can go on and on but I don’t want to spoil too much for you. I don’t care about the fact that Gavriel and Fenrys are probably centuries old, they are precious babies in this house, I love them to death. Also Maeve can rot somewhere
3. Tower of Dawn (Throne of Glass #6) - Sarah J. Maas 🧩
I really don’t dislike Chaol; I was okay with him in ToG, I shipped Chaoleana like crazy in CoM, then he went on my nerves in HoF and QoS. I get him, and all these memories he had to live with and relive hurt like hell to read. He really grew with Yrene’s help. She’s amazing. Now, let me scream about my main ship in this book.. NESRYN AND SARTAQ I LOVE WARRIORS TOGETHER. Yeah sure he’s hoooot but his character is so amazing, fast became one of my faves. I loved learning more about the Ruk clanes and this new continent, the new customs and history were so well done. Also.. THAT Nestaq scene with the spiders.. y’all know exactly what I’m talking about, my heart beat like crazy he can’t just give that speech in the middle of battle. Also that rival couple, SHIP
4. Unite Me: Destroy Me + Fracture Me (Shatter Me #1,5 + #2,5) - Tahereh Mafi 💊
I’ve read these two books before but I was six books after on my Goodreads challenge so I kind of counted Unite Me as three.. same goes for Find Me.. :) I love Aaron so damn much I honestly can’t get it myself and I love reading from his perspective, so I really enjoy how Mafi made DM and RM with a lot of his POV. In contrast to those feelings I HATE Anderson so much, like can he stop coming back?? Anyway back to the book. Adam.. is quite unbearable, sorry. At the point of Fracture Me he just liked her, honestly. He kept saying how James is his life, how he couldn’t live without him and how nothing would be left if he was gone. WHAT ABOUT JULIETTE THEN?? But let us be real, James is the most precious character in this fandom, so I understand.
5. Find Me: Shadow Me + Reveal Me (Shatter Me #4,5 + #5,5) - Tahereh Mafi 🍰
KENJIIIIII he’s bae, probably in my top five. He’s such a precious cinnamon roll with a relatable mind and the best lines. I love how he keeps referring to known people and movies from our time. And yes I ship him with Nazeera, how could I not. I loved seeing Restore Me from his POV and how Warnette’s relationship sees from the outside. But the reveal at the end of Reveal Me?? Anderson I SWEAR you better not have done something.. and Juliette plz be careful. I’m scared for Emmaline too

I wish Dorian and Manon’s relationship had been flushed out more.
We really get to see the entirety of how Rowan and Celaena became Rowaelin.
We got to see the stones set for Lysandra and Aedion, and then picked up later when there were Feelings. Lorcan and Elide, same thing, but more detail.
Chaol & Yrene and Nesryn & Sartaq got books devoted to building those relationships.
Chaorene, Nestaq, Elorcan, Lysaedion, Rowaelin... we see the loud moments and the quiet. We see the banter and the serious. We understand how they found each other and fell in love.
But Manorian? We saw the sense of savior and comfort. And then they talked maybe once fully. And then Abraxos was flying Manon to Dorian as her safe person. And we see them fuck and get serious, but I never see the banter and the in between that lead to Manorian falling for each other.

Thoughts on the Ships in Kingdom of Ash
Ok, I’m writing some thoughts on the Ships in Kingdom of Ash. I’ve jumped onto a few posts, but I feel like I’m probably not being clear because well, I talk to people outside of those posts via different channels and so people aren’t getting the full picture.
Not that this matters of course, the internet and tumblr is only a snapshot, but I wanted to write some clear thoughts on the Ships and how I am feeling about them before/during/and now two weeks after having finished the book. 1. perspectives change. 2. Reading other peoples thoughts that might enhance our own understanding happens too. **SPOILERS BELOW CUT**
Rowaelin
Before Koa: Yes, I dig it. Empire of Storms was their peak love story! Heir of Fire gave me all the Angst - love and hate, falling in love with the trainer, Queen of Shadows gave me my reunion and happiness to fight the bad guys and Empire of Storms gave me the sexy times. The Ship had sailed. Then Maeve came in Empire of Storms. And I was worried for my ship, but only because I was worried for the individual parts of the whole. What happens if they die! What happens if Aelin isn’t who she was. What happens to them! they deserve a happily ever after. *insert renee crying lots at the end of Empire of Storms*
During Koa: I was scared. Aelin wasn’t who she was. Rowan was loosing himself in the hunt for her. What was this new thing between Fenrys and her and Rowan was on the outs? What did this mean? Why couldn't she talk? Where was my Aelin!!! Aelin had hardened and I was scared, and Rowan was scared and it made me think - she’s going to die and i’m going to cry. Then Aneille happened and Aelin almost came back. She was as close to the old Aelin as I think was possible given the trauma that she went through. Rowan didn’t care. He would have loved her anyway. Such a pure ship. And then they go on to save the world. Once Aelin had forged the lock, I wasn’t scared for her anymore. I didn’t think she might die, I didn’t think Rowan would either. The lock felt like it was the start of their happy ending. Sure lots of stuff to go on but the ship was good.
After Koa: Same feelings. I still love Rowaelin. But I got to experience their journey over 4 books! It was satisfying in that they had page time but it didn't detract from the story. So When I’m not enthusiastic about Rowaelin - Its not because I don’t love them, I’ve just been with them a long time. There wasn’t any doubt in my mind that they would be ok.
Elorcan (aka the ship I wanted to sail more than any other)
Before  Koa: I was scared. I feel so hard into this ship when I read Empire of Storms. And then when I re-read it before KoA I fell harder. I loved Lorcan from the start. A grumpy demi-fae, who is the most powerful, who seems angry, who doesn’t show emotions, who would do anything for his friends. (sure misguided sometimes - but that’s what it boils down to). He came to Rowan’s aid in Heir of Fire. He came for his friend. Not his general. He didn’t have time for Aelin - some mortal girl who people had an interest in. It wasn’t why he came. People who know me - know I have been cheering for Lorcan the past two years. That he’s going to show this side of himself. My morally grey Lorcan. And then Queen of Shadows and Empire of Storms happened. Oh man. Elide, my witch baby standing up for those who cant do it for themselves! She took on Vernon for Kaltain, she is bad-ass! She is the my love just as Lorcan is my love. I’m so torn I love them both. Its a good thing they found each other. Anyway. Elide stands up to him, she fights for herself and others. She protects him and he does the same back. So I love them. Elide threw herself in front of a wolf (Fenrys to save him!) And When Lorcan called for Maeve - my heart sank. Lorcan u big Dummy! I love you but come on! And then the theories started. and I wrote some too. Maybe if I think of the worst possible thing that can happen and put it out into the world it wont happen. Like jinxing the bad stuff. Lorcan “SALVATERRE” savior of lands- does that mean he will sacrifice himself??? Honestly my biggest fear going in.
During  Koa: Kingdom of Ash was a roller-coaster for my ship. I was so invested in everything they did. I paid way too much attention to their sections than other ships. - honestly I skim read nestaq scenes (who I love). which is bad I know. but elorcan for life apparently.  And Lorcan was being sneaky and trying to help Elide be comfortable (sure more period talk but what ever) because he had been traveling with her for months and months and knew she needed stuff. He shows love by doing. Not always doing the right thing (his decision making skills need work) - but he tries. Elide was a bitch at the start. Just going to say it. Sure she might have been justified, but sometimes you don’t need to voice all the nasty things in your head. And I got mad at her. Then she basically said she wouldn’t care if Lorcan died. And his heart broke and my heart broke and I was upset and probably crying.  AND THEN THE BATTLE OF ANEILLE HAPPENED AND I CRIED!!! AND I SCREAMED AT MY BOOK. Direct quote from my notes: “ P500 - NOT HAPPY! Lorcan!!!! OMG NOT HAPPY! LORCAN JUST DROPPED HIS SHEILDS - fucking egg! Omg ahhh! Crap. Crap crap.”  I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t have dropped his shields if Elide hadn’t said such horrible things to him and he didn’t feel like he needed to die. So I was mad, fucking live you dork. Its just a girl! I ship you two, but if You are both going to be Dorks then I don’t!  So when Elide went to go find him I was like - OMG YES U DO LOVE HIM... direct quote from my notes:  “ I'm crying .... Elide- "I will always find you", running down the stairs... oh it hurts.... please please be ok ....  Ahhh she grabbed chaols horse! A horse for Hellas himself... ahh Lol and then that's explained a couple of pages over Lorcan!!!(517) "Get up" :sobbing emojis: "I promised to always find you. I promised you, and you promised me. I came for you because of it; I am here because of it. I am here for you, do you understand? And if we don't get onto that horse now, we won't stand a chance against that dam. We will die." P 520 :more sobbing emojis: Omg :more sobbing emojis: You have to let me go I love you And I will be with you.... I will be with you always :more sobbing emojis: Lorcan Omg Fucking hell And elide! Yes! You claw at him girl!! That dam! Oof Omg my ship - you are killing me “
Honestly. Such a Rollercoaster. So as you can see I was invested. and then they seemed to tentatively get over each other and what happened and proceeded to get cuter and cuter as the book went on and just gave me warm fuzzies and happiness.
After Koa: I love this ship. I would die for this ship. Fight me! - oh majority of fandom also Like my ship now... cool cool. that’s cool. guess we cool.
Manorian
Before Koa: I dig it. Its alright. Manon eats men for breakfast so Dorian has a little bit of a death wish but I can see that playfulness, that bond from living a similar life. Heirs in name only, for the longest time. I appreciated it, but wasn't strongly invested. I had picked my OTP already. Still enjoy this ship tho - just less invested.
During Koa: I really liked the tentative relationship between Manon and Dorian. I have so many notes about how I think he is a witch tho - so those stand out in my notes more than ship points. I liked that they shared a tent when Manon never did. I liked that Dorian spent time with the 13 developing friendships. It showed that he wanted to know Manon, more than just for sex. But it also cannot be denied that they like sex and used it to avoid talking. That happens in relationships too - not necessarily bad. Its one of the things I actually like about SJM’s ships they aren’t cookie cutter relationships. But I did feel like both Manon and Dorian chose the mission over the relationship (For Now) which is fine too btw. In life we might take a job in a different city and do long distance and still come back to each other. I think Dorian lying to Manon on their last night together by omission is a little sucky. But again. relationships have ups and downs. I’m glad it kinda ended there. Sure they come back together, But I like that its left open. Firstly because they have had the ship burn in flames - their isn’t an “unhappy” ending... the story is still playing out. We just cut away before seeing the end.
After Koa: Wow ok. So people have lots of thoughts on this ship and maybe I should have been paying attention. Why don’t people like it open ended... ok? maybe its a loose end but there is still a book to come (the world of throne of glass) and sure its not a novel about Aelin. This doesn't mean it wont tell us about the encyclopedic history or Ardarlan and the Witch kingdom and how both are run by people who are seeing each other. A certain boy who knows how to use portals to get from one place to the other quickly - doesn't seem like living on opposite sides on the continent is going to be a problem.... maybe that’s just the optimist in me. If they have children - a girl to rule the wastes and a boy to be king. Seems like an amazing fit. I’d really like to see this happen tbh, but this takes time and time KoA didn’t have in the pages - but - maybe - the world of throne of glass will.
Chaorian
Before Koa: Ahh cute - they had their love story i’m happy!
During Koa: Damn I love Yrene. Shes the best. Chaol, you are ok too - but Yrene has your back and is the light relief in your life. Chaol you are too serious - listen to your wife.
After Koa: awwww little wittle chaorene babies. awwwwww daddy Chaol. awww  uncle Dorian. <3 <3 so many warm fuzzies.
Nestaq
Before Koa: I ship them so Hard OMG SARTAQ I LOVE YOU. You are a way better fit for Nesryn than Chaol. Man i’m glad she met you.
During Koa: oof Sartaq why u gotta have a Khagan hat on - you are so serious. Good thing Borte is there.
After Koa: Nesryn has no idea what she is in for - Can I please get more Yeran and Borte. Still love Nestaq - but I understand the peak of their story was in Tower of Dawn.
Lysaedion
Before Koa: Oh Man you two. The end of Empire of Storms - Aedion you are a dick! Why! Why! Oh you better just be mad and make it up to her. You love her dang it, you wanted to marry her! Argh. I don’t know how to feel, I like them together - but what is this past Aedion has? What is coming. I don’t want to get my hopes up.
During Koa: Aedion! Aedion! What! Are! you! doing!
I’m so mad at Aedion right now. You better apologise.
Its so complicated to break down. But basically Aedion is being an A-hole to Lysandra and she doesn’t deserve it. She is running herself into the ground and you do that! Aedion! I’m so conflicted, why are you a good dad to Evangeline but an awful person to Lys! AHHH AEDION STOP!
After Koa: I still don’t know how to break down this relationship. It sets off so many red flags for me. - About how someone can be a great dad but an awful partner.  - About how someone can be abusive essentially but explain away their actions. - About how other people stand by and watch, when they see this behavior. - About how it is all “circumstances”.
Now - I think its fine for people to work through things and overcome their problems if they want to but that takes time. What Aedion did in Kingdom of Ash did not make me think he should have been able to win Lysandra back as quickly as he did near the end of the book. And it hurts. However I know people in real life who have gone back to people who have treated them badly. So its not uncommon. It is their decision. It just hurts.
Part of me wants them to get a divorce and I’ve made a couple of joke-ish statements about that. But I could have been on Lysaedion’s side if it had a similar ending to Manorian. If it was left hanging, left on a - lets see where this goes. War does strange things to people, and I think Aedion was affected more than others, but he needs to prove he isn’t going to be the man who threw Lysandra out into the cold. In my eyes at least.
I have prob left ships out, and thoughts out but this is a lot of writing for me that’s not counting towards my nanowrimo - hahaha.

Cold Nights and Colder Toes
Anonymous asked: “ for the prompt thing, maybe some nestaq? just anything with them, i love them, please “
Send me a request!
Masterlist
“Touch me with your cold ass feet one more time, Faliq, and I swear-“
Nesryn cut him off with a loud laugh, biting her lip and pressing her toes against his calf again. Most nights Sartaq tolerated her frigid feet against his hot skin, especially in the summer months when he needed to cool off. It was now winter in the mountains, however, and he did not appreciate it one bit.
He flipped to face her, playful shock coating his features. “You little brat,” he said, onyx eyes glinting in the dim torchlight.
“What are you gonna do about it, Sar?” She grinned, ghosting her freezing toes over his shin. Abruptly, Sartaq slung off the covers and stood from the bed. Nesryn frowned at his muscled back as he left the bedroom and stalked out into the hall. He didn’t usually get so upset at her teasing.
“Sar?” she called, sitting up against the pillows. She shivered, the cold mountain air chilling her to the bone without the heir’s heat beside her. She pulled the thick blanket up to her chin, trying to decide if it was worth chasing after him.
She was just about to rise from her soft haven when she heard familiar footsteps in the hall. With a sigh, she snuggled back under the covers just as Sartaq pushed the curtain aside and stepped inside.
“I promise I won’t put my feet on you anymore if you come back,” she said, watching him as he moved to the foot of the bed. He yanked the blanket up, exposing her feet to the cold breeze and she yelped.
“What are you d-d-doing?” She shivered, teeth chattering. Hiding her face beneath the blankets, she felt the prince’s warm hand on her calf, lifting it from the mattress. He slipped a thick, warm sock her foot, then did the same to the other. Only when he replaced the blanket did she peek out at him.
“Courtesy of Borte,” he mumbled sleepily, sliding in next to her and wrapping an arm around her waist. She curled into his chest with a smile and tangled her legs with his.
“Better?” She pressed a kiss to his sternum, fingers trailing the hard lines of his stomach. He pressed his cheek to her hair and chuckled.
“Much better.”

Chaol & Nesryn *spoilers*
One of the things that kept me from 100% enjoying Tower of Dawn was the way that Chaol and Nesryn interacted (or didn’t) during the first half of the book. It ended up leaving me with more sympathy for Nesryn, and once again, less for Chaol.
I think the thing that bothered me, which even occurred in Queen of Shadows, was the way that Chaol basically just used her for whatever he needed at the time. Did he want someone who could be a soldier? Nesryn was there. Did he want an emotional punching bag for when he was in a shitty mood? Nesryn was there. Did he want to get laid? Etc.
I don’t mean to imply that Chaol did any of these things maliciously or even intentionally, but... it put Nesryn in a really awkward, uncomfortable position. She frequently brushed off his behavior, whether he was rude, dismissive, or whatever. She just... put up with it all the time. Neither of them are to blame for that, but it made for a really crappy relationship, ultimately. And this is something that I think a lot of people can relate to. Honestly, how many times have you done the same thing in order to avoid conflict? Especially as women, we are generally conditioned to just let things slide - let the dude have his temper tantrum or his Sad™ or whatever and emote all over us, and eventually it will blow over.
And so when she goes off with Sartaq he actually respects her, and says he will be there for her, he literally sacrifices himself for her (well, he thinks he does), which is the complete opposite of what she had with Chaol. It’s like... with Chaol she wasn’t in a mutual, two-sided relationship. She was basically just at his disposal. But with Sartaq, they were on an even playing field, each respecting the other and their needs, and also both owning ruks that they can ride around on together.
OK but my entire point was that this shitty relationship dynamic really hampered my enjoyment of the book. It’s not like with Feyre and Tamlin, where their conflict was a driving force of the plot and was called out and dealt with. For Chaol and Nesryn it sorta just... disappeared? Chaol felt guilt for not officially ending things with her before he started up with Yrene, and Nesryn felt the same, but like. There were bigger problems in their relationship than that. And so they were pretending like everything was fine, and it really wasn’t, and I didn’t get the satisfaction of them really dealing with that. At least, if they tried, I didn’t even notice. Which. Means it wasn’t effective. For me.
PS what is Nesryn and Sartaq’s ship name? Nestaq? That sounds like a tech company or possibly a medication. Saryn?
Edit: also I gotta say that I’m not comparing Chaol/Nesryn to Feyre/Tamlin at all, it’s just that the lack of resolution was unsatisfying.
