So we know we have to remove all the ‘mushy’, decaying tooth and the old filling. 🤔 But how should we repair the hole left in the tooth? There are many dental materials available but the main decision is direct or indirect- resin vs porcelain. 🧐 Lets look at how much good, solid tooth we have left. How wide are the remaining walls? Have we lost any cusps of the tooth? How much of the biting surface has been compromised? 😘 After careful consideration, I decided to restore the tooth with an indirect, porcelain filling! By 👉🏻 @dr.lailarizvi This is a Maryland Bridge used to replace a missing tooth in a 40 year old male. His baby tooth finally became loose and fell out and now he has an embarrassing space. If you follow my posts, you know that an implant would be the best option to restore this area. In his case, his canine was impacted in his jaw and would not allow for implant placement. Another option would be full coverage fixed bridge which would use the two adjacent teeth for support. In his case, neither of his neighboring teeth had any decay nor previous fillings. They were essentially perfect teeth and using them for support would not make them any stronger. Of course something removable is always an option but was unacceptable for my patient. I have spoken about Maryland Bridges before. They are like little angel teeth with wings of porcelain on either side. The wings are bonded to the back or tongue side of the neighboring teeth. Our patient came in this morning because her dog jumped over her and chipped her front tooth. Although it looks painful, Ashley was not in any pain. She just didn’t want to go into work with her front tooth chipped. . .
