What's in the Shop?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Quite a few liquid-core chonk d20s at the moment! All of them are currently 20% off from now until May 14th!
There are also a few new things Coming Soon! These are some limited-run dice and some production sets are in the works!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also some raw mystery dice may be coming soon! I still have to work out the logistics of that one, but it looks like it would be 2 standard d20s and a d6. These would be straight from the molds, so some mold lines and minor defects may be visible, but all that they would need to be usable would be some paint in the numbers if you don't mind some minor defects (this is how a lot of my personal dice are!)
I'm also hoping to re-open commissions soon! My goal is to have them open up again in the beginning of May!

So the "Nazmazh" character is in the pipeline for me to actually create a mini for, but for the time being, Ambrose here will suffice as an avatar.
I will eventually get around to uploading Hero Forge mini screenshots and lore snippets for everyone that I've created based on the dice, but in addition to making new ones, I've got plans to revise many of the existing minis with the new facial and pose options that Hero Forge has gotten since I created those minis.
Anyway, as for this fellow:
Ambrose Hawksbeard
Stout Halfling Cleric of Pelor, Light Domain
Neutral Good
Acolyte Background
Dice Set #11 - Yellow w/Blue Numbers

okay gang we fucked up the first one. take two
Tumblr media
*since apparently a few people were confused last time, try to make the percentage of the vote match the percentage of the option, if that makes sense
once again:
PLEASE DO NOT TELL PEOPLE PERCENTAGES OR GIVE ANY HINTS IN THE NOTES
also, for everyone saying to roll dice or do math etc, while that would work it does go against the Vibes of the poll, which are to do this based on guesswork and how you think Others are going to vote
pls reblog for sample size

I finally published the project for my dice roll scarf that went viral last month. If you love dice games, you'll enjoy knitting this pattern.
Tumblr media
The color work in this project is determined by an algorithm, a set of rules that determine the final outcome. There isn't an exact set of instructions for this project. Instead, the knitter uses four 10-sided dice or a random number generator to pick the length of the colorwork in each row.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The result is a staggered stripe sequence along the edge of the shawl. There are trillions of unique outcomes, so no two projects turn out exactly alike. The pattern uses about 500 yards of yarn in total, but the amount of each color that you'll need is randomly determined. Before publishing, I wanted to find out the minimum and maximum amount of each color required to make the project and the probability of each outcome.
Tumblr media
The knowledge needed to calculate the yardage was a bit beyond my skill level, but my friend Mary W. Martin helped me gather this info. I used an online probability calculator to find out the probability of each unique stitch count. The results are slightly different depending on whether you use four 10-sided dice (blue) or pick a random number (yellow), but 99% of all possible results fall within a very small range.
Tumblr media
It was an interesting little tangent, but not hugely important to the actual knitting pattern. I can, however, confidently say there is a >99.9% chance that you'll need a 2nd skein of the main color. If you want to know more about the math, you should check out my project notes on Ravelry.
The thick and thin striped colorwork is created with a super simple "long stitch" technique. The pattern looks great in fluffy mohair or contrasting colors of basic wool and the instructions include some basic tips for substituting yarns or changing the gauge.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Finished Size: 18 x 68” (46 x 172 cm) rectangular wrap.
Yarn: Approx. 315 yards (288 m) of MC and approx. 264 yards (241 m) of CC. Yardage may vary, see notes on yardage below and yardage chart in photos.
• Main Color (2 skeins) - JMR Studio Worsted Weight Mohair, 245 yards (225 m) per 4 oz; 78% Mohair, 13% Wool, 9% Nylon.
• Contrast Color (1 skein each, both yarns held together) - JMR Studio Fingering Weight Mohair, 320 yards (293 m) per 100g; 63% Silk, 23% Kid Mohair, 11% Nylon, 3% Polyester Held with Lavender Lune Yarn Co. Suri Alpaca, 328 yards (300 m) per 50g; 74% Suri Alpaca, 26% Silk.
Yardage: The amount of each color used for this pattern fluctuates based on the random numbers used to determine the stitch pattern. MC uses approx. 233 to 315 yards (213 to 288m) and CC uses approx. 182 to 264 yards (166 to 241m). 99% of possible results fall within a much smaller range. The Yardage Chart shows the distribution of all potential yardage outcomes.
Needles: Size 8 (5 mm) straight needles, or size needed to obtain gauge. NOTE: Straight needles work best with long stitches. Circular needles with a thin cord allow the long stitches to tighten and stretch, making them harder to manipulate.
Gauge: 12 sts x 14 rows = 4 x 4” (10 x 10 cm) square in pattern.
Other Materials: 10 sided die or random number generator, stitch marker, scale, tapestry needle.
Generating numbers: In my sample, I used four ten-sided dice (D10) to choose a number between 4 and 40 sts. If you don't have dice, you can use an online app like RANDOM.org to generate your numbers. If you follow this link, you'll get a list of 63 integers between 4 and 40. NOTE: Each time you visit the link or refresh the page, the list changes. You can also just choose numbers as you knit.
Pattern is available on my website and on Ravelry.

Ditching D&D Beyond or never got it in the first place? Here's some free/pwyw resources.
Dicecloud. This online app allows you to make and track character sheets for free! It does a lot of the calculations for you, just like dnd beyond would. Best overall replacement. (Thank you, @chryslerisdead)
PWYW Class Character Sheets by Emmet Byrne. These character sheets in my opinion, are easier to fill out and harder to mess up, with class-specific features built-in. You can easily edit them digitally, and there's even multiclass/homebrew options. Slap em on Google drive or something, share with your DM, lots of options.
Point-Buy Calculator. Easily automates character stat creation if you're using the Point-Buy system.
5e Level Up Tool. Select your class, select your level, get a digestible checklist of everything you need to do to level up. This one is SO GOOD and so slept on.
5e Spellbook. A quick way to reference your spells and build a Spellbook with a ton of filters.
Encounter Calculator. I know challenge rating isn't everything, but this is a good/fast way to see how balanced your encounters are, at a glance, at least in the eyes of the source books.
RPGbot. Lots of resources for DMs and players: encounter builders, dpr calculators, and lists of player options with sample builds and optimization suggestions, which may be helpful to folks new to the game.
Bonus: Online Tools (System Agnostic)
Here.fm. This is the alternative I use instead of roll20, because it's faster/easier. Drag and drop in maps and tokens in seconds, built-in library of stickers you can use for effects, draw right on the virtual tabletop, use temporary drawings to map out moves, built-in dice rollers, and options for proximity chat. I use it in combination with discord (just have players join your here room muted), but it could be used entirely on it's own, I imagine. Not built for ttrpgs, but works incredibly well for them.
Kenku.fm. A PWYW mini browser focused on mixing and sharing music to your dnd games through whatever app you use, with helpful discord support. This app also LEGALLY bypasses the issue that got all the YouTube discord bots shut down, so you can share YouTube audio worry-free.
Additional Resources (Aka, stuff I found out about after I originally posted this):
flapkan. Holy shit, this might be the BEST character sheet option on this list! Form-fillable pdfs with fully automated built-in prompts to auto fill features and spells, built-in Point-Buy and other automated calculations, and it generates a lot for you. Can be used digitally or you can print!

I've been playing Baldur's Gate 3 on my PS5, which isn't the most portable thing in the world. I anticipate a lot of travel next year, so I bought it on Steam and got it running on my Steamdeck, so I can take it with me. Steam works so well with Linux, but I was having a hell of a time getting it to work with Proton, until a few days ago.
My character on PS5 was carefully built from the ground up. I think I spent 2 hours designing her and writing her story in my head. That was great, and not something I needed to do again, so I told it to just randomize everything. That would push me out of my comfort zone, and I'd get to experience a different story and experience than I do already.
The game generated a Tiefling Sorcerer for me, with a background in history and lore. Awesome. That's pretty different from my vengeance paladin with an outsider background.
Real quick: since I first posted about playing BG3, the number one FAQ is "do you roll as badly in this game as you do in real life?"
The answer to that is "I've had a shocking number of single digit rolls, but I turned on Karmic Dice because holy shit I have suffered ENOUGH, and I will take the option."
But with this new character (who I am calling Tav), I went ahead and turned it off, just to see.
Okay. I wake up. I see the parasite pool, and among my options is [INVESTIGATION] with a +1 bonus. That totally fits my character's story. She wants to get out of this place, but she is so compelled to understand things, to acquire knowledge and understanding, she goes straight to where the Mindflayer pulled out the tadpole, and rolls Investigation with +1. Let's find out WTF is going on! Let's do some HISTORY INVESTIGATION IN THIS MOTHER!
I rolled a 2.
So for everyone who has been asking, based on this admittedly small sample size, yes. Yes, the dice hate me, even when they are digital.

In the aftermath of Dustin's wedding, Heather decided it was time to get her life in order. She'd spent all of her 20s caught in up travelling, partying, and philandering. She felt guilty for not using her degree that she had worked so hard for. She had put off being an adult for so long now that she was worried she would miss her opportunity to make something of herself.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first thing she did was get a job as a chef. The job was in Evergreen Harbour, and so Heather finally moved into her very own apartment to start her life on her own.
After so many years of knowing she would eventually like to work in a kitchen, here she finally was, slicing and dicing, sauteing and frying. It felt good to get back into the kitchen, to put her skills to use. But ultimately, she didn't want to work as a chef in someone else's kitchen. All along, it was the thing she had known about herself; the reason she had stayed away from home for so long, knowing it was the fate that awaited her as a fledgling young cook. But Heather wanted to run her own restaurant, and make her own food.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In her downtime outside of the kitchen, Heather began working on her own recipes. She put together everything she had learnt about food from her travels, and tried to create new and exciting flavours. As she began to curate her own recipes, she thought about putting them together as a cookbook. She found herself dreaming up titles as she worked away in the kitchen - 'Around the Plate', a sampling of meals from across the globe based on her travels in Selvadorada, Sulani, Tartosa and Appaloosa.
Heather also found herself keeping in frequent email correspondence with Jenny. She sent her little life updates on her new job, her cookbook ideas. And Jenny for her part offered to send Heather's book to her contacts in publishing.

After spending so much time joking about it, I dreamed about actual rules for NO FUN ALLOWED, the game that lets you embody antis for a minute. And well, the Friends said I should share this with the world so. There you are!
To draw cards, we've got a numbered list and we're using dice rolls, but if you know how to code I'm sure that's something that could be automated. Feel free to hmu for the full list of Ship Cards, or for the template so you can make your own!
(Here are sample Ship Cards from our deck:)
