All typed text in the drawings above is taken from The Lord of the Rings, by J.R.R. Tolkien. These quotations are included here as context for the images, which are meant to be a commentary on the work.
(with the exception of “story about elves” which is, probably obviously, not a direct quote. I was planning to use real quotes there, but Gandalf’s story is far too long for the two images I drew and I couldn’t decide what to quote <_<;)
ring: *shows sam his innermost power fantasy* i can totally make this happen for you
samwise, the best hobbit: That sounds.... stupid.
I had a clear mental image of Sam when reading the books, but less clear of Frodo. When I saw the movies I really liked Elijah Wood’s portrayal and since then have found it hard to picture anything else- but I’m trying to avoid mixing in things that look too much like the movies because
1) selfishly, I am trying to do a sort of a character design exercise because it’s something I never ever practice, and making toonified versions of real life actors with real faces is a related but quite different exercise to making designs based on a sparse written description + a personality and story role
2) I just think it’s visually jarring if some characters look like they did in the PJ movies and others don’t, and there were some characters I knew I wanted to play with looking markedly different from the movies.
So I tried to avoid drawing Elijah Wood straight out, but I kept the big blue eyes. I think a design element like that is within the realm of visual-influence-but-not-copying.
TL;DR frodo might look a tad generic and I’m sorry for that. I find him difficult to pin down.
I don’t have many LOTR posts so here’s an index:

It’s like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger they were. And sometimes you didn’t want to know the end. Because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it’s only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer.
Those were the stories that stayed with you. That meant something. Even if you were too small to understand why.
No onslaught more fierce was ever seen in the savage world of beasts, where some desperate small creature armed with little teeth, alone, will spring upon a tower of horn and hide that stands above its fallen mate.
Lord of the Rings, Book 4, Ch. 10
Random fact about me: This sentence was my gateway to samfro.
How would the Fellowship members react when the reader makes them flower crowns?
Gifting Flower Crowns
Fellowship x Reader
A/N: Hey Anon! This is so cute. I made them separate but if you wanted it as a single HC/one shot scenario, let me know and I’ll change it!
When you hand him the flower crown to wear, he gets such a soft smile on his face. Aragorn will thank you for the beautiful gift before placing it on his head. He’ll wear it all day instead of his usual crown, completely unbothered by the teasing of others.
He grins brightly and insists that you have the honor of placing it on him. Once you do, he smothers your cheeks in kisses. Thanking you for the flower crown. Proudly wears it all day but takes it off during training since he doesn’t want to break it by accident.
When he sees you holding a flower crown, he teases you lightly, “oh is that for me?”. But his smile and light blush gives it away that he adores it. Gently places it on his head before insisting to make you a matching one. “What’s a prince without his princess” he’d say with a wink as he places the one he made on your head.
He highkey thanks the Valar for a beard to hide his red cheeks. Gimli is so flustered that you’d gift him a flower crown. It definitely doesn’t match his Barbarian vibes but wears it nonetheless. Lowkey loves it so much. He will stutter and threaten anyone who teases him for being soft.
He’s a little shy when you gift it to him, but grins brightly as you place it on his head. Asks what brought up the idea of making him one and will blush when you say “just because!”
Will shyly grin at you with a bright blush on his cheeks. Softly thanking you for the flower crown. After wearing it for days, he’ll press it to preserve the beautiful flowers and display it in a picture frame.
Will get very happy and excited that you made him such a cute gift! Wears it with pride, and if anyone asks, he’ll happily brag how his amazing s/o made it. He’ll definitely ask you to teach him how to make them.
He gets so excited that you’re giving him a flower crown. Pouncing on the balls of his feet, barely able to keep still as you place it on his head. A literal puppy and will straight up go around to strangers and show it off
Thinks it’s very sweet of you to make him a flower crown. If it’s during travels, he wears it around the brim of his wizards hat. But if it’s at Rivendell, he wears it straight on his head! Lowkey forgets he’s wearing it until someone points it out

Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back, only they didn’t. They kept going, because they were holding on to something. That there is some good in this world, and it’s worth fighting for.”
