leaders, deputies and healers (redraw)
huge, and I mean MASSIVE infodump under the cut, watch out!!
LEADERS
Palestar (she/her), Leader of Stormclan - Palestar’s backstory is one shrouded in mystery. All that is known about her ascent to leadership is that she killed the previous Stormclan leader - Creekstar - who was known as a callous tyrant. Rumours ooze around the festering wound that Creekstar left in her clan, and whilst her fellow leaders are viciously curious about the events that lead to her annointment as leader, Palestar is thoroughly tight-lipped about it all.
Ouzelstar (he/him), Leader of Snowclan - A traditionalist and a shithead. Ouzelstar was a virulent warrior, intent on keeping his clan free from anything he believed would threaten the tradition that Snowclan had supposedly stood on for so many years. As leader, his cutthroat attitude has calmed a bit, mostly due to his fears over dividing his clan any further - though he is not above putting down cats he deems ‘lesser’, such as his deputy, Kestrel, whom he named Half-face.
Dapplestar, (he/him) Leader of Gladeclan - The oldest of the leaders and a gentle soul. Dapplestar has had the fortune of leading Gladeclan through many of its most comfortable seasons, and as such has adopted a very mellow outlook on life. His indecisive attitude has troubled them, however, when choosing deputies. After struggling for many moons with cats who wanted to abuse power and ignore duties (or those who were very obviously just waiting for him to keel over), he sought guidance from his ancestors. Lionsong was appointed deputy after Starclan named him as the future saviour of the clan. Knowing that a prophecy has named Lionsong as his successor, and confident in his abilities to lead, Dapplestar is ready to retire and live out the last of his days in the warmth of his clan.
Sandstar (they/them), Leader of Meadowclan - It is difficult to describe Sandstar without using the word ‘bitchy’. Taking their assessment at an exceptionally young age and then going on to become deputy and leader, Sandstar has earned the confidence and precedence they carry themselves with - not that it doesn’t annoy their fellow leaders somewhat. Despite all their pride and gumption, they regularly find themselves bored by the toils of leadership and often delegate their duties to their worrywart deputy, Ravenshine. They have two mates, Mothswoop and Appledawn.
DEPUTIES
Bluehaven (he/him), Stormclan’s Deputy - In the aftermath of Creekstar’s rule and Palestar’s rise to power, Stormclan was weakened and divided. In-fighting began to stir between those who supported and those who opposed Palestar’s leadership, and to quell this discord Palestar appointed Bluehaven, one of her most outspoken opposers, as deputy. Despite his objections to her leadership, Bluehaven was shaken by Palestar’s decision, initially believing it to be a trick, and later, a test of his loyalty. He warmed up to his new role after Palestar made further efforts to rebuild her clan, including pardoning exiled cats and banning the murder of rogues (an action that Creekstar had permitted). Nowadays his relationship with Palestar is tense but professional - though there are rumours she only made him deputy because she knows he won’t usurp her like she had to Creekstar.
Kestrel (he/him), Snowclan’s Deputy - Kestrel was born in Stormclan to Pineshadow and an unknown father. Not long before his apprentice ceremony, his mother fled their home, taking him to Snowclan. There, Ouzelstar took him in, whilst his mother was turned away into the frozen wilds. From a young age Kestrel demonstrated an intuition and selflessness beyond his age - he was left significantly scarred after defending his clanmate from a badger. Though most of his clanmates afforded him sympathy and admiration for this action, there were others who were angered by it - namely Ouzelstar, who would give Kestrel the warrior name ‘Half-face’. Kestrel went on to become deputy after Thawflank stepped down to care for his son and grieve his mate, and remained in the role long after this once Ouzelstar realised his competency far exceeded Thawflank’s (and he didn’t argue with him like Thawflank did). As deputy, he puts his duties above all else, especially any personal grudges he might harbour.
Lionsong (he/him), Gladeclan’s Deputy - Lionsong suffered a rough childhood, one that he still occasionally blames himself for. Having lost both his parents at a young age, in different ways, Lionsong grew up under the guidance of his mentor, Brightnettle. As an adult, Lionsong has committed himself to serving his clan to the best of his ability, and is known by his clanmates to be resolute but compassionate - making him a perfect candidate for deputy. Having been named by Starclan as the ‘saviour of his clan’, Lionsong wonders what lies in his future, and whether his future role as leader could clash with the actions required of a hero. He has a mate named Ashfall.
Ravenshine (she/her), Meadowclan’s Deputy - Born a kittypet and abandoned by her owners, Ravenshine struggled to adapt to a life of scavenging on the streets of her twoleg-place. She found Meadowclan after trying her luck hunting in the fringes of the town and stumbling across a border patrol. Desperate and hungry, she was prepared to fight these new, strange cats for her dinner, but was surprised when they invited her to their clan. She found the warrior life suited her well (though she is prone to sunburn more than the average Meadowclan cat, due to her lack of fur) and quickly earned the trust of Sandstar. She enjoys organisation and strategising, both of which make her suited to her role as deputy - though she does have a bad habit of over-worrying, something that isn’t helped by her leader’s lackadaisical antics. She has a crush on her clanmate, Flaxeneye.
HEALERS
Lichenfrost (she/her), Stormclan’s Healer - Lichenfrost is unusually friendly for a Stormclan cat. She was apprenticed to Frostwhisker, a key figure in the turmoil Stormclan experienced under Creekstar’s leadership, until his brutal death at the claws of a clanmate. Lichenfrost was understandably devastated, having witnessed it with her own eyes, and struggled for many moons as her clan’s sole healer. Whilst the bright sting of shock has long since left, she still finds herself struggling under the weight of her grief from time to time, a feeling she mostly tries to battle with a warm smile and a good talk, and maybe only occasionally some poppyseed.
Berrystem (she/her), Snowclan’s Healer - Berrystem apprenticed under Cedarsmoke, a quiet and often unsettling cat. Almost as soon as she had earned her name, he left the clan, saying goodbye only to her. As an apprentice, Berrystem was fiercely passionate about her duties, finding solace in healing clanmates and peace in having time to herself - not to mention, a small part of her was both humbled and thrilled by the importance of her role. As she got older, however, her devotion began to waver - and almost faltered completely when the Blight hit her clan. After the death of both her apprentice, Mumblepaw, and her brother’s mate, Tumblestone, Berrystem travelled to the Peak and begged her ancestors for something, anything she could do to save her clanmates. She was met with silence. Distraught and hopeless, Berrystem started avoiding her clanmates out of guilt, spending all her time in her den tending to the dying. When the Blight finally began to clear in the warmer months, the damage was done; their small clan was smaller and Berrystem believed it was all due to her. Losing her brother to his grief and her friends to their duties, Berrystem found an unlikely bond with the only other cat who felt ostracised from the clan; Martenfur. The two would soon form a warm friendship, with Martenfur often helping Berrystem fetch those herbs that were just a little too tall for her to reach.
Littleshadow (she/her), Gladeclan’s Healer - Littleshadow became a healer far later in her life than most cats. She was 40 moons when the clan’s current healer, Duskfoot, died suddenly in a dog attack. Having been the only cat with a higher-than-average knowledge of herbs and remedies, Littleshadow stepped in to help her clan. Trained mostly by Beechbark, Littleshadow quickly learnt the ways of a healer and took up the role full-time - leaving her mate, Cindertail, behind.
Beechbark (he/him), Meadowclan’s Healer - Beechbark is the oldest of the current healers, having outlived not only his mentor but the clan’s previous leader. Despite this, he refuses to pick an apprentice on the principle that none of his clan’s current young ‘uns show enough respect and diligence for his liking. His clanmates fear that he’ll die before taking an apprentice, and his clan will be left healer-less like Gladeclan had been. Little do they know, Beechbark fears that if his clan has a newer, younger healer then they’ll see no use for him, and usher him off to the elder’s den. He’s not ready to give up his role just yet.

hiya! i'm working on charts of all of the clan leaders, and here's part one with glenclan! information about each leader is under the cut, it ended up longer than i expected haha
Sorrelstar (Sorrelfoot, he/him)- GlenClan's founder, he was the ThunderClan deputy in the lake territories before the second migration. He was first to establish his Clan, made up of former Thunder, Sky, and RiverClan cats. He was a total sweetheart and ended up living a SUPER long time. Leader mark is a white tail-tip.
Stagstar (Stagheart, he/they)- Sorrelstar's grand-nephew, a stern and somewhat abrasive cat who holds his Clan's needs above all else, sometimes to the detriment of others. Leader mark is a stripe below each side of their mouth.
Dewstar (Dewripple, she/her)- a kind, patient, but ultimately very naive cat. She established the agreement with PineClan over ownership of the Sunstones, and was promptly killed by her deputy Barkfang. Leader mark is the inner ring on her face stripes.
Redstar (Redgleam, he/him)- was chosen by StarClan to lead GlenClan after Barkfang was poisoned by the healers. Was a wise and determined leader. wears feathers from the cardinal that was the StarClan omen choosing him as leader, leader mark is a grey spot on his back.
Laurelstar (Laurelfrost, they/xem)- no one is quite sure how they became leader after someone as capable as Redstar tbh. xey were vain and a bit lazy, but incredibly charming in a way that made other cats like and trust them. They were eventually poisoned by Dawnshatter so that Hivesting could be leader. Leader mark is dark circles around xeir eyes.
Hivestar (Hivesting, he/him)- oh, Hivestar. For as long as he could remember, he wanted to become leader, and was disilusioned with Laurelstar's leadership. His mate Dawnshatter strategically poisoned several cats to get Hivesting into a leadership position, only discovered after he had successfully killed Laurelstar. Hivesting banished them, and became leader. He was a good leader, but was always followed by the fear that he didn't deserve his position. Leader mark is the dark part of his muzzle.
Ashenstar (Ashenpelt, he/him)- Ashenstar was a proud, powerful cat, and the instigator of the war between GlenClan and RiftClan over rights to the Great River. He became guilty over his actions later in his life, and made attempts to fix the mess he'd made before he died. Leader mark is pale grey paws.
Hickorystar (Hickoryleap, he/him)- a short-lived leader, Hickorystar was a meek, sad cat who lived most of his life with an immune disorder that often left him sick. He began the process of making amends with RiftClan, spurred on by love for his former mate and mother of his kits, the RiftClan warrior Dovesky. Leader mark is large spots down the sides of his tail.
Sandstar (Sandstripe, she/they)- Sandstar was made deputy rather young, with Hickorystar hoping that a young leader would have a different perspective on the fighting with RiftClan. She is the current leader, a proud, humorous, but stubborn cat beloved by her Clanmates. Leader mark is dark stripes along her nose bridge.
Greenstar (Greenshade, they/she)- the future leader after Sandstar, Greenstar is an observant, introverted, deeply intelligent cat. They lead their clan with wisdom and foresight almost unmatched by any cat alive. Their leader mark is a black stripe on each whisker pad.

Fourth warriors Wednesday, this time with WindClan’s leader!
Name(s): Sandkit, Sandpaw, Sandleap, Sandstar Pronouns: He/Him Rank: Leader
Family: Brother: Hazelbrook Niece: Dawnkit Nephew: Duskkit Partner: Galestorm
Summary: Sandstar spent most of his life in the shadow of his brother as he was groomed to be leader by their father. However after a battle that took the life of the deputy and almost took the life of Hazelbrook, Sandleap was forced to assume a leadership role. While he always tried his best to rise to the occasion,  he never truly wanted to be leader. For a while he was driven into isolation until he met his best friend Galestorm. The two of them became very close and were mates for a time, before realizing the truth about their opposing sexualities. Nowadays, they lead WindClan together, and try to settle Hazelbrook’s growing resentment.
Learn more about Sandstar and WindClan in Hollowpath’s Guilt, slated for release January 2023!

SANDSTAR!!! What are you most excited about for her? How will this change her character arc vs canon? IIRC her only family left rn is her aunt Willowpelt, right? How do you think her relationships with the other leaders will be different vs Bluestar and the canon Fireheart, and how might that impact things down the line?
Ex: I can't see Windclan being pissed at their leader being buddy buddy with Thunderclan because Sand and One aren't exactly. Bros KNTRKJNTN
what even is Sandstorm's character arc in canon other then "stop being mean to the new guy" fhfjf
im excited about the ways it'll affect that side of her personality that is her arrogance, because she's still young, inexperienced, and trying to handle Thunderclan crisis mode. when she was younger, she would've thought she'd be a fantastic leader, but actually being thrust into that position tests every aspect of pride or confidence she's ever had in herself.
Also,,the way her and Fireheart's relationship progresses...mwah
Willowpelt is her aunt, and I think Halftail is still alive? Her grandfather on Swiftstep's side. She has a closer relationship with him than Willowpelt, and goes to him for advice a bunch
I mean compared to canon Firestar, Sandstar is just. Meaner fjfjf. She's more willing to remain guarded with the other leaders, but she's not as cold or purposefully cruel as Bluestar could be at times. She's also more open to cooperation that Bluestar.
I like to think her and Breezestar would have a good rapport! She wouldn't like Blackstar (nobody does) but she does respect him. Her and Leopardstar I feel can be cordial, but Sandstar is 110% ready to throw down at all times. Leopardstar prefers cordial, though, so it wouldn't be like they're at each other's throats at every Gathering.

could you tell us more about fogstar? oceanclan sounds v interesting but fogstar doesnt have the look of an adrenaline junky o;
I’m assuming you mean Sandstar? Fogstar is the Iceclan leader and Sandstar is the leader of Oceanclan. I can talk about both though.
Both leaders are a little more isolated from the other two clans, both physically and diplomatically. While Shalestar and Aspenstar are friends and often collaborate, Sandstar and Fogstar prefer to keep to themselves, albeit for different reasons.
Sandstar takes extreme pride in his clan, and though he wouldn’t admit it, most cats know of his belief that Oceanclan cats are inherently superior to the other clans. Though the bay clans work as one unit, Sandstar sees Oceanclan as their natural leaders—that his clan sets the example that the others should follow. This is, of course, ignoring Oceanclan’s extremely high turnover rate, that most cats born into the clan are looking to leave it. This reality doesn’t phase Sandstar though—he sees those who leave Oceanclan simply as cats who weren’t up for the task, cats who couldn’t cut it and would rather give up and grovel to another clan over their failure. To him, to accept help is a sign of weakness, and he often hesitates to extend a helping paw to the other clans. This attitude is often hostile to any disabled cats in the clan, and few every choose to remain in Oceanclan for long.
Even though leaders in these clans are religious leaders, responsible for interpreting potential messages from the clans’ gods, Sandstar has never felt very passionate about this facet of his job. Oceanclan deputies are chosen in competitions of strength and skill, not spirituality, thus he succumbs to his religious duties as an obligation, not out of any genuine interest.
Sandstar does care for his clan, which is partially why he expects the utmost from his clanmates. But there are so many deaths every season. Each time a denizen’s broken body lays limp beneath a cliff face, a quiet guilt begins to gnaw away at him. But this guilt isn’t enough for Sandstar to just dig up the roots of a culture that runs deep through his clan. Besides, to admit that they’re wrong is to admit defeat, to undermine everything that Oceanclan has ever stood on. Is Sandstar’s own leadership even valid if he acknowledges the toxic culture that put him in power? Instead, the stunts continue, the feats of greatness, the spectacles—all efforts to prove their way of life is one worth living. But this isn’t living, Oceanclan is dwindling, and Sandstar remains stubborn in his willful ignorance.
Fogstar, on the other hand, is generally a much more agreeable leader, though still somewhat distant. Contrary to Sandstar, she is the most devout of the four leaders, and is strongly committed to Iceclan’s duty of guarding the Blue Cave and maintaining the connection between the dead and the living (more on this later when I make an Iceclan info post). She is quiet and patient, and often will sit still for hours alone on the mountainside, dutifully searching for omens in the environment. She sees omens for the future as a certainty, an inarguable glimpse of what’s to come, and that the only way to deal with a warning is to simply prepare for it accordingly. She approaches all decisions coolly and confidently, but is averse to taking spontaneous, decisive action.
These decisions will also usually have Iceclan’s best interests in mind. Though she wants the best for all for clans, in her heart, her first priority will always be the wellbeing of Iceclan: her family, her (metaphorical) children. Iceclan bonds run deep, and this love for her clan is evident in all her interactions with her clanmates. Around her loved ones, her cool demeanor melts away, and warmth floods her features as she pauses and listens to each of her clan members, taking time to know each one’s thoughts, interests, and fears. She often invites fellow denizens for hunting trips one-on-one, a chance to strengthen bonds and grow closer together.

Who do you think is your favourite character in the story? Can you say why?
Tumblr media
enjoy some small doodles
tbh it was VERY hard to narrow down my faves bc i really like every character in the comic. but if i had to choose just four, it’d be:
raven - one of the main characters and sort of the driving force in this story. she’s among the oldest of the ocs in this story creation-wise, alongside kinkedtail, wildpaw, sandstar (+ sandstar’s kids, who will appear later), falconfang, and russetpaw. she is just a very interesting and tragic character to me and i LOVE exploring all her different dynamics with the cats in her life, like her friends (and enemies) in mossclan, the cats from the city (who we will be seeing quite soon…) and in the future, her kits.
sandstar - another one of the older characters creation-wise, and another character who is going to be very prominent. i dont really have a solid reason for why i like her so much.. i just do tbh LMAO. i love her relationship with her kits and her struggles with feeling like a strong leader (which will be exacerbated with a future event in the comic)
russetpaw - she hasn’t appeared yet! but she will be soon. she is one of raven’s kits and a main character in the story. i’m a big fan of her struggles in the comic relating to “fitting in” to mossclan despite the clans’ stigma against city cats and how it affects her relationship with her mother and her brother. i think her relationship with raven is very sweet. she will be making a cameo appearance in chapter one, actually.
sky - also hasn’t appeared yet, and won’t for a hot minute (outside of another cameo in chapter one), but will be VERY prominent later in the comic. a city cat who has very strong ties to raven’s past. i absolutely love writing and drawing them and i think their mindset and the way they view the world and the cats around them is very fun. i’m very excited to go more into raven’s history where we’ll get to see more of them!

Warrior cats AU idea I had while looking at some art and want some thoughts on it.
Redtail and Tigerclaw as mates, with their kids being Sand and Long. Firepaw having the dynamic (ofc before Tiger officially betrays them) of trying to be friends with his girlfriends rough and tough dad lol
Also. GoldenSpotted. Idk how Bramble or Tawny would work but Swift is just Golden’s adopted son she found in the woods lol
