Hello friends!
The latest chapter of Songbird is finally up! Boy did Sandor fight with me on this one. But we got it done!
It's also a long chapter. I hope you enjoy and, as always, thoughts and feedback are most welcome!

"Please, you're(Hound) hurting me." She tried to wriggle free. -Sansa(ACOK). "You're(Hound) hurting me," she said, twisting in his grasp. -Arya(ASOS). "You're(Lysa) hurting me." Sansa squirmed. -Sansa(ASOS). "You're(Aerys) hurting me," they had heard Rhaella cry through the oaken door. -Jaime(AFFC). "The Myrish woman(Taena) gave a gasp of pain. "You're hurting me."- Cersei(AFFC). Abusers hurting their victims and not caring.
Ciao anon!,
The horrible truth about abusers, they don't care they are hurting their victims; and to think some (Cersei) are delusional enough to think that despite this all they are beloved by their victims (she thinks of Lady Merryweather as her friend and convinces herself that she has fled KL because she was afraid that they would interrogate and torture her and she might end up confessing troubling secrets of Cersei and out of loyalty to her she fled away; when she did it only to save her skin). Also, can I point out another parallel between the Stark girls?
Rhaella cries when Aerys abuses her, she is beyond fractured, she's at that point at which she knows that no one will come for her and she's so broken that she doesn't have the strength to stand up to him anymore, she just cries and pleads, she doesn't even cry for help, because she knows none will come. It's horrifying and terribly sad and it really puts into perspective how broken Rhaella had become by the end of Aerys' reign and it's made even worse because none cared. “Poor Rhaella, still, it's her husband' right to have her. So though luck for her” — fin. It's horrifying and terrible and heartbreaking.
Lady Merryweather gives a gasp of pain (and of surprise) and informs Cersei she's hurting her. She doesn't try to pry herself free from her hold, she tries to reason with Cersei which means that at least mentally the two women stand toe to toe, lady Merrywaether is manipulating Cersei and boy does she succeeds since Cersei still asks Kevan to have her summoned back to court to serve her after the whole trial is over with.
Arya and Sansa, both confronted with Sandor hurting them, and later Sansa against Lysa try to wriggle free of their abusers.
It's a contrast with the others you quoted.
Rhaella is so broken and resigned by now that she knows no one will come to save her, that no one cares, she cries as an outlet for her pain and probably because she hopes against all hope that her brother will return to his sense and at least stop hurting her, tho it never happens.
Lady Merryweather is manipulating Cersei and trying to beat a narcissist at her own game (she manages it even). She gasps, but she doesn't not try to wriggle free, and as Cersei continues her “abusive ministration”, Taena starts to play her game and as Cersei “means to take her rights” Teen manages to make herself look and feel desirable for Cersei, in this way trapping her and making her emotionally dependent on her. Taena plays on Cersei' play-role and traps her.
Sansa and Arya are fighting. Both are overpowered physically and emotionally, yet both try to pry free of their abusers and they manage. Sansa's song, in the end, beats the Hounds knife and Arya's sense of survival and thirst for revenge have her leave the Hound for dead, bleeding on the ground; and while Sansa words do nothing to reach her aunt in her paranoid state, in the end Sansa is saved from Lysa and will have, most probably, the last laugh when she will be the one to bring to justice her muderer (LF).
Sansa and Arya are fighting and breaking free of their abusers — I think LF kissing Sansa and demanding another kiss because his plan to give her the North deserves another kiss should be mentioned here as well, because while he might not be hurting her physically he's doing so emotionally — which hints to her surviving them and working through the trauma they caused and come out on top. Because they are not done fighting yet.
Hope you enjoyed the read!, thank you for the ask and as always I wish you a very nice day.

❤️‍🔥Just two beings kissed by fire❤️‍🔥
I am literally obsessed with this scene, and with them. I feel that it is an important moment that represents a lesson for both the characters involved and the reader.
In the books, Sansa teaches Sandor a lesson with her song. Violence is not the way. Things are not taken by force. Even people like him, whose life is full of resentment and anger, have a chance to redeem themselves.
In the TV show, it is Sandor who teaches Sansa a lesson. Looks are deceiving. She is afraid of him because of how he looks and is unable to look at him but he tells her, in his own way, that she will encounter people in life much worse than him and that she will have to look at them. In that moment, Sansa understands what he meant and sees through his horrible burned mask. That's why she says: "You won't hurt me".
Both versions seem like a poem to me and I needed to make a fanart of it. I love this scene, and I love the interactions they both have. I hope that at least in the books they’ll have a worthwhile reunion and that they can thank each other, or if GRRM allows it, something more. It would be such a beautiful thing to read that she sings to him again, actually wanting to sing a song for him. Of course, that’s if Sandor is really alive.

whether or not you ship sansa/sandor or not
the hound is most definitely sansas sexual awakening right now in the vale, and grrm never writes things like this by accident, so this fact definitely has to mean something in the long run, right?
this is a girl who previously had been attracted to beardless, pretty boys like ser loras tyrell and joffrey
and now, she is in the vale, being regularly kissed and touched against her will by littlefinger who calls himself her FATHER and is trying to marry her to harrold hardying, a boy who fits that pretty boy archetype but she is just so thoroughly unimpressed by him
its the HOUND she thinks of in her marriage bed, its the Hound who protected her from the mob, the Hound who despite being vicious and often rude to her, has never lied to her and tried to bring her home during the blackwater
yes, sansa is all but 14 years old (but there was a timeskip that grrm had been planning while writing the books that got removed before feast? so she in that original plan wouldve been 19 in the vale) but she has already been exposed to so many of the cruelites of man - and yet, the man who she so frequently longs for, who she prays for, whose kiss she dreams of and whose kingsguard cloak she kept, is sandor clegane
and if he is the gravedigger - then he has just overheard from brienne and ser shadrich that sansa stark is in the vale with petyr fucking baelish

Sometimes I wish Sandor wouldn't use my headspace to work out his issues. But, that at least means progress is happening! Next chapter coming soon, once a certain Hound gets his act together 😁

"The northern girl. Winterfell’s daughter. We heard she killed the king with a spell, and afterward changed into a wolf with big leather wings like a bat, and flew out a tower window."
The Hound poured a cup of wine for Arya and another for himself, and drank it down while staring at the hearthfire.
“The little bird flew away, did she? Well, bloody good for her. She shit on the Imp’s head and flew off.”
