“sansa is a smart girl” and “sansa is a little kid being manipulated and groomed by an older man who sometimes messes with her judgement” are two statements that can, should and do coexist

Even if grrm had gone through with his original outline and had sansa marry joffrey and have his kids, I would still be defending sansa with my breath and blood, if not more vehemently. She’s still a prisoner of war, trapped and caged, and still forced to marry her political enemy, but this time someone who is sadistic and a million times more entitled. Even worse, she’s forced to have his kids and then when she tries to protect their interests, she’s labelled a traitor. Which she still is in TikToks labelled “did you know sansa betrays her family by having Lannister children in the original outline” and then there will be comments like I knew I always hated this bitch for a reason and salsa was only made for conflict within the starks and she’s so annoying at least George had the correct idea first, and all of that will make you rage bite your pillow so hard your jaw hurts but still won’t make it any better. All I meant is, original outline sansa is a much sadder story and still not the fucking villain. That girl is the priest’s favourite sacrificial lamb.

I think the fandom is seriously underestimating Sansa's self-control at the purple wedding
She smiles, compliments and encourages all those nobles who participated in her suffering, laughing when she was beaten and stripped, or remaining unmoved when she was forcibly married to a man twice her age who also happened to be her jailer and enemy
She compliments Elinor on her gown, same Elinor who threw her away like dirt, she compliments Lancel on his strength, same Lancel who laughed loudly when she was beaten and stripped
She's so good at it that Kevan and Lancel are beaming and even Tyrion (who regularly called Sansa dumb in his thoughts) is amazed by her courtesy and thinks she would have been a great queen

Sansa didn't think "I'm stronger within the walls of Winterfell" just to you all to believe she will never return to her home.

Sansa fans and Jonsa shippers are the baddest bitches. Everyday we wake up and we choose violence just by existing, making the rest of the fandoms' heads explode and I honestly think it's very sexy of us.

Drowned God, if you don’t like Sansa for believing in the ideals presented in songs and fairytales and for holding them dear to her heart, you need to do some introspection as a person enjoying what is essentially a modern fairytale

Sansa's friends
Seeing Sansa have genuinely nice interactions with others girls is so awesome. The time she spends with margaery and her lady's ( even if they are faking it) is just so refreshing. The way you can clearly see the parallel between the time with then and the how see thinks about winterfell makes me want to cry. But also the crushing feeling of being abandoned by her friends, when she's forced to marry. It gets me every time.

A D*ny stan called Sansa a "heartless and cruel villain" and grouped her with Joffery, Ramsay and Aegon wtf
i… actually thought this was a joke at first, but nope, this person seems to be genuinely serious.
Tumblr media
so as a “fun” little activity, i looked at the australian red cross’ lovely little list of the war crimes committed by GOT characters! the results will surely shock you, anon.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
obv this was done for GOT and not HOTD, but many of the same acts that aegon commits were also committed by ramsay and joffrey.
and as for sansa? two, notably taken against undeniably cruel people and players who have made it their mission to mistreat her (i.e. ramsay and littlefinger, in show canon).
Tumblr media
oh, and what about d*ny, you may ask?
Tumblr media
now, one does not have to agree with everything on these lists, but i decided to compile them together as a refresher for who actually has the penchant for doing certain things that could be considered heartless and cruel in this series.
thank you for your ask!!

Thinking back about how Marillion's attempt to rape her triggered Sansa's repressed trauma and she had nightmares about Tirion and Sendor assaulting her and she waked up with the dog and wished for Lady instead
And yet some fans still think this is positive foreshadowing for their toxic ships

jon's character is at the lowest point he can get where most sides of the fandom regard the snow show with either reluctance or vitriol (guess which side is which). jonsa bias aside, their best route at salvaging an otherwise unsalvageable character arc (besides giving viewers the closure they need about his parentage) would be to play up political jon and double down on the respect-sansa-tea (or maybe simply just don't drag her into this at all) if they're not giving us jonsa.
because what is honestly the narrative point in depicting him mourning over a dead character who literally committed genocide and then villainizing sansa (a fear that sansa fans rightfully have)? how does that further his journey except to move him towards? what? not being sad anymore and dragging her character through the mud at his benefit? i'd get it if this were just some modern day miniseries about a guy getting over the death of his wife, but this is supposed to be a sequel to game of thrones and we were robbed of a genuine and coherent scene that depicted what the hell was really going through the starks' minds and their motivations in seasons 7-8.
but everything is everyone else's fault but jon's and he's just some poor bloke with the best intentions who falls in love with "strong" women who treat him badly. riiiiight. damn. i want to be optimistic but we've seen this before and we ~generally~ didn't like the ending.
