Dusty hated it.

He hated the feeling of not being in control.

Yeah, he normally wasn't, but even the world decided to give him a damn timer. He knew a lot of people were excited for it, to meet their soulmate, but he wasn't!

Not at all.

What if they don't like him? What if they reject him? What if... Ugh! He hated how much this made him panic and feel nervous.

Whenever it was brought up he would either leave the room, or hide a little into his scarf while squinting.

Soulmates were stupid.

Today he and the rest of the Bad Sanses went to this one AU. They needed to collect things... Error said not to mess with this one too much though cause they liked this AUs story, and wanted to see the ending of it.

Dusty thought it was annoying, but started to walk anyway...

They got separated.

Perfect, walking through an unknown AU all alone... Peachy!

He grumbled as he walked, his eyes scanning around. More skeleton monsters than expected... Fire ones too. Maybe in this AU there was never a war? Sounds interesting, at least. He liked AUs where they didn't need to fight in a war.

When he reached up to scratch at his cheek, he saw it. His number was very low. That sent a shock of panic down his spine.

How the hell did it get so low? His soul was shaking as well. It knew his soulmate was here.

He puts his hand over his chest, breathing in and out fast then he took off running.

Where was he running to? He didn't know. He just knew that he needed to run, needed to leave. His soulmate can't be here, he didn't want them. Maybe if he ran fast enough, he could skip by his soulmate. They'll never know he's here, they'll just... They'll never see him.

So he ran.

His running caught the attention of someone else, who started to walk after him.

Dusty presses back against a brick wall, holding his arms around himself his bones clicking as they bumped against each other. Shit shit shit.

This wasn't supposed to happen. He didn't want to meet his soulmate. Soulmates were stupid! Why did he even have one? He didn't deserve one.

He digs the tips of his fingers into the fabric covering his arms, his sockets shut. The whispers were here again, filling his mind with thoughts.

It was too loud.

Everything was too loud.

Abruptly, out of nowhere, he heard a voice "are you okay?" His timer blinged, causing his breath to hitch and he looks at the 0s on his wrist then up.

In front of him was someone that looked like Dream. It wasn't though, the souls weren't the same. He was wearing a white button up, the sleeves were rolled up and baggy pants held up by things over his shoulders.

He looked strange...

"Oh- wow- so you're my soulmate! It's real nice to meet you, finally" he had an accent that Dusty couldn't place.

"Get away from me" he finally spoke, and he saw the Dream counterpart tilt his head "'cuse me?"

"You can't be my soulmate, I don't... You aren't-" he groans, covering his face. He wanted to lash out, attack. Do SOMETHING.

Yet... He didn't.

"Hey hey, come on, take a breath, relax... Why don't we talk at the cafe? Figure this out?"

Before Dusty realized what he did, he nodded slightly to agree and they were off.
