I've been rereading some of your fics, and with you saying prompts are open, I gotta ask, update on director sanvers v with Alex as the hinge? Absolutely no pressure, esp cause it seems you wanna branch out a bit more, but damn if I've wondered how they are doing

Hey there! Probably won't get to a whole fic about these three anytime soon, but perhaps you'd enjoy a few random headcanons about how things have been going? (also I've been feeling particularly attached to them of late after seeing TLW Gen Q really drop the ball on their attempt at poly stories :/ )

- Alex is still the hinge partner; Maggie's not seeing anyone else, but she's really enjoying having a bit more time for herself and the community garden plot she got (after 2 years on the waiting list); Lucy went back to the law after Marsdin's new legislation hit the books, and she splits the time she's not holed up in her office with Alex and Vasquez (who she's still dating and still refusing to go camping with; no matter how good at it she can be, it doesn't make it something she wants to do)

- Superfriends game nights have pretty much abandoned certain games like charades, pictionary, and taboo because even with a "no Danvers sisters on one team" rule, no one stands a chance, and it always came down to Alex and Maggie vs. Lucy and Vasquez. Winn campaigned hard for them to try DND (dammit, he's always wanted to DM a big campaign), and once he had Brainy and Nia on his side, he managed to sway the whole group. (Alex was the most resistant, but she was finally swayed with the promise that she could design her own weaponry.) Kara proposed that they play in the Sky High universe, and it was just ridiculous enough for everyone to agree. Lucy and Maggie both voluntarily chose to be classified as sidekicks, and they've bonded over pitching the most ridiculous schemes that only their random sidekick powers can facilitate, supers be damned, and Lucy's got a +7 on charisma that pretty much guarantees she always gets her way. (Their characters are now dating, and they tease Alex about how much she blushes at seeing them flirt.)

- Maggie and Vasquez joke a lot about buying a row of houses so that they don't have to build commute time into their massive shared calendar anymore. It was a running joke until they found a massive duplex on the outskirts of town with enough space for Maggie to garden up front and a big fenced-in backyard, which feels more and more important by the day as Alex keeps spamming the group chat with 90lb mutts in need of a loving home, and everyone's fairly certain that they'll be at a 1:1 human:dog ratio before long. The house needs a million and one repairs, but dammit, they've got tool belts and a bit of knowledge and an extensive history of YouTube searches about "how to x," and they're making it work. (Plus, Kara's handy in a pinch. Like when they need someone to lift the house up just enough to peek at the foundations...)

- Technically the houses are divided, but they've installed an inside door that's almost never locked. Besides, the good kitchen is on one side, and the better living room set up is on the other, so it's only fair that they keep an open passage readily available. (After Gertrude gets a brother who Alex names Harold to the surprise of no one in the house and the confusion of everyone in the neighborhood, they take down the door entirely. Apparently doggy doors don't work too well for 110 lb great pyrenees mixes barreling through them at 25mph.) On Saturdays, Vasquez, Lucy, and Maggie pile into the good living room and watch college football, while Alex and Kara head out to brunch for some well-deserved sister time, though once basketball season starts Alex is the first one in front of that TV. The neighbors aren't really up to speed with what's going on with the house and its residents (Maggie's overheard multiple people swearing that only 3 women live there, plus one neighbor who's convinced that every last one of the superfriends has a bedroom in the house), but they're welcoming enough regardless. (Except Terry, but Joan, the elderly woman next door, assures them that Terry "doesn't have much going on up there, if you know what I mean.") Besides, what really matters is that they win the neighborhood Halloween decorating contest. Every. Single. Year.

Bering and Wells - my forever OTP. Look, I am not a fandom-socialized person. I didn't know about ships and OTPs and all of that. All I know is that I saw them together and I loved them. Instantly and unconditionally. I loved them in a way I'd never felt about any pairing on screen or page before, or since. So when I go on in this list, the distance between them and the next entry is basically astronomical.

Kathryn Janeway and Beverly Crusher, and it's all @ussjellyfish 's fault (affectionate).

Jadzia Dax and Lenara Kahn. "Rejoined" broke my heart, and I want them together. Rabidly want them together.

Jadzia Dax and Kira Nerys. They were a surprise ship, but I'm glad I found them! I even wrote a little fic for them!

(edited to add: bad reading comprehension here, whoops! Anywho, have this fifth of four anyway:) Deanna Troi and Will Riker. Long before I knew what shipping was, I adored their story, both in the show and in the novels ("Imzadi" is so good, in so many ways). They are my go-to het ship; I'm 💯 sure they're open to all kinds of polyamory and fun sexytimes and shenanigans with all consenting interested parties, and they just support and love each other in the best, maturest way possible. They're also my go-to for "we weren't right for each other then, but we're right for each other now", which is a criminally underused trope! (See also Pete and Amanda from W13.)

First ever ship: as explained above, Bering and Wells or Troi/Riker, depending on your definition.

Last song: listen. I'm incredibly, impossibly impressionable. You even just so much as mention a song that I know, and hey presto, it's in my ears. Earlier this morning it was the Cat Bus Song from Totoro. Right now, due to a post on my dash, it's Carol of the Bells. In five minutes' time, it might be anything.

Last film: watched The Eternals on Friday. Was thoroughly unimpressed. A few good ideas, and some good acting (and I love love love that we got a female Asian lead), but yeah nah, that didn't hit the spot for me. Can't wait to see the new Death on the Nile though!

Currently reading: novels? I can't. Like, seriously, I'm burned out for reading stories that don't have characters that I know. So at the moment, fan fic. Since the last two years, really. Like, I got Priory of the Orange Tree lying right there, but I can't. I finished Gideon the Ninth and hated it. (I know many people love it and that's fine with me, but I. Just. Couldn't.) So, I'm making my way through the Sanvers Big Bang fics, and through other fics I'm randomly finding, and that's it. Loved Roadie's Mermaid fic.

Currently watching: I'm slowly making my way through Xena. Never really watched it in any consecutive or deliberate fashion, and am doing so now. I'm at the beginning of season 2.

Currently consuming: uh... like in food? Delivery Kung Pao (my beloved). We live in the 'burbs, and it's damn hard to find good delivery food here, but there's one place that has both good sushi and good other Asian dishes. They're one town over, though, so you need to order a lot with them to make the minimum amount they drive out for. So my wife and I often order sushi for that night, and then a non-sushi meal to eat the next day. And 9 times out of 10, it's kung pao for me and fried rice for the wife. And so when my wife was out (friend's b-day party) on Friday, I got that exact delivery for myself (including her fried rice for Saturday). And I still got some kung pao left! So that's what I'll have once I'm done with this post! 😁

The morning comes slowly, spilling over the horizon as the sun drags itself up in the sky, and it’s been a while since Alex has wanted so bad to stay in bed long past her alarm.

One might even say this is an unprecedented occasion.

But then again, that wouldn’t be fair to all other mornings before this one, would it? All those past mornings didn’t have Maggie Sawyers lying in her bed, pretending to be peacefully asleep, solid and warm beside her. In all those past mornings, her bed has always felt too big and too cold, uninviting in the daylight. 

“I do know you’re awake,” she says finally, not really wanting to dwell on how much Maggie turned around in her life and how hard it’s becoming to imagine it without her. “If we don’t get up soon, we’ll both be late.”

“I’m NCPD, being late and eating donuts is on the job description,” Maggie mumbles into her pillow, pulling the covers further up her head. “And you’re a bigshot in the military, you can be a little late.”

“I thought that one was only for police officers,” Alex replies airily, tugging Maggie closer, “and not hardened, badass detectives.”

Maggie smiles, eyes blinking open. “Hmm, flattery will get you everywhere, Danvers,” she kisses Alex, soft and gentle, and it should be gross because they both just woke up, but Alex is still in a perpetual honeymoon phase when it comes to Maggie. It’s impossible to turn her down, to even want to. “You should call in sick, we both should.”

“Yeah?” Alex breathes, feeling her heart hammering in her ribcage.

“Stay in bed all day,” Maggie suggests, giving her best pleading eyes.

“That does sound tempting,” she allows, “but we both know, Kara would be breaking down our door if I suddenly called in sick. And what would the PD do without their best detective?”

“Counterpoint: it’s Saturday.”

“True, and if we both get up in the next ten minutes, there’s enough time for me to make those chocolate chip pancakes you like.”

Maggie considers it, making a show of thinking it over before grinning widely. “You got yourself a deal, babe, congratulations.”

“Thank you,” Alex says, mockingly serious, and throws back the covers, preparing herself to get up, when Maggie drapes an arm around her. 

“And where do you think you’re going?” She asks, eyebrows raised and eyes shining, “I believe you said we still had ten minutes. I can think of a few things to do in ten minutes.”

Alex valiantly tries not to blush, warm all over, and grins back, relaxing in her grip. “Well, how could I say no to that?”

“Wise. I’ve been told I’m pretty irresistible,” Maggie says, and kisses her back into the mattress. 

They are most definitely going to be late for work, but Alex can’t bring herself to think coherently enough to care.

Ultimates 2019

The weekend was amazing, the photos I took are not. This was my first time at a Starfury event in The Hilton, and I've gotta say I'm disappointed with the height of the stage. Having said that, the talks were great, I managed to see the talks of guests I'd never seen before (Missed the sanvers panel after getting called for autos, again) and I enjoyed the stories a lot. I got all my autographs, apart from two extra guests which was as expected, and my photo shoots with Chyler, Floriana and Brianna were excellent.

I won't be discussing what happened during and after the supergirl panel on the Saturday, I wasn't there. I will say that some "fans" need to actually think about what being a fan means and need to think about how they're interacting with real people on social media with real feelings. Be mindful of real world repercussions to your actions when you post.

Both myself and @freeingupyourlife have gold tickets for next year; that comes with better positions in the hall and a meet & greet as well, so I expect to get better pictures in 2020.

Notes: Unless things change radically, this will be the last bonus chapter I post for Devils in the Dark. When I started posting Future Shock, I had 37 chapters completed and in the buffer. Once this chapter goes up, the buffer will be down to nineteen. Devils in the Dark was finished back in January, but I have not started writing A Plague of Righteousness as of yet, because I have been working on my Sanvers High School AU, Taking In Strays, which is the first in a new series called Little Girls Lost that will start posting in a few weeks. Which means that there *may* be a gap between the last chapter of Devils in the Dark and A Plague of Righteousness. It depends on how quickly I can move through writing A Plague of Righteousness. I am sorry about that, but as you will see moving into the end game of Devils in the Dark, I needed a chance to work on something a lot lighter and happier, which Taking In Strays definitely is. It just turned out to be a lot bigger than expected (It's currently at 173K words, and will probably end up closer to 190K words by the time it's finished). The good news is, the break let me get a much more solid idea of how I wanted to approach a couple of the threads from A Plague of Righteousness, and I think the finished product will be a lot better because I had the chance to step away from it for a couple of months.

Chapter 46, Titled "The Lifesaving Properties of Coconuts" will go up on Saturday, per my normal schedule. This chapter is getting posted early in order to move through this particular arc in the story a little more quickly, because a lot of people were so upset by the ending of Saturday's chapter. My goal, as always, it to entertain, not leave you in misery.
