Different anon but about Saphir… You were actually right on the money in describing him as having a big brother complex, and yes I’m pretty sure it’s meant to be of the Brocon variety, because Ikuhara. Two scenes in particular gave off such alarm bells to DIC that they either heavily censored it or deleted it altogether:

Scene 1: At the end of episode 83 when Saphir admits he feels the same way as Esmeraude does and also hates Sailor Moon out of jealousy, the old dub doubled down on the straight-washing and turned this into him confessing secret feelings for Esmeraude

Scene 2: The scene in episode 85 of Demande intimately brushing his hair back and Saphir smiling and whispering “Nii-San” right after was completely cut.

There was also an official Drama CD released in Japan that never got translated that outright described Saphir using the “brocon” term, so yeah…

This is interesting! I've only watched SM in my language (not English) and the straight-washing was never a thing for me, not with SM or other anime (CCS for example: Touya and Yukito? Always dating in my mind and Touya being bi.) So Saphir never confessed having feelings for Esmeraude, in fact, they didn't even get along. He did have a lovely scene with Petz, making it somewhat clear that their feelings were mutual.

I'll have to look it up! I'll try to watch the episodes in English to understand better and maybe find the original with subs in my language. Thanks so much for the info! It's always surprising when the original tone it down.

How are the Saphir fans feeling? My Saphir/Petz ship is in shock while sailing to the non-canon sea.
