I think Todd in the Shadows is also a good example of how long it can take to put out videos, if you're researching / writing / producing them yourselves:
One a month? One every three months? It takes time to do all this.
If someone is dropping a weekly hour-long commentary video that isn't just them podcast-ranting about too many gays, they either work with a team, or are stealing.
And if they work with a team, they should credit them, so we know whose art or words are a part of this.
Sarah Z does it like this.
Jenny Nicholson does two huge videos a year, because I'm pretty sure she does them all herself. This content takes MONTHS to put together.
If you like a non-corporate channel and they're dropping slick videos daily or weekly, that's a red flag. You should probably narrow your eyes at where this content is coming from.
...Or they just don't sleep and use hard stimulants. But that also makes the content suspect, in its own ways.
You're not an unsupervised 11 year old. Be more mindful about what you're consuming. Stop generating revenue for dipshits who don't want real jobs.
"HEY I DON'T CARE IT IS JUST CONTENT I'M TIRED AND -- "
You can either stand against the dystopia, or get eaten by it. Grow the fuck up.

A young woman sits alone in her room. It just so happens that today, the 14th of April, is the day she has decided to share a video essay from one of her favorite YouTubers. Though she has been sharing and reblogging content for months now, it is only today that she shall be given a name. What will the name of this young woman be?

Hbomberguy's video reminded me of when my photo was used without my permission and wasnt given credit in this dashcon video.
At the time I pretended to be happy about it despite actually being extremely annoyed and upset by it.
Sarah Z never asked me to use this photo. She didn't even tell me that it was in the video. In fact, I only knew about my photo being used after being messaged by several people.
That photo was linked to ALL of my social media and it would have been so easy to find me after googling "dash con cosplay" (which is the exact search result I used to find myself during my own investigation)
Yes it's just a photo but the basic principle of being asked didn't happen. It was genuinely upsetting that I wasn't asked and wasn't given credit.

Sarah Z's video about Buffy season 6 is a fantastic deep dive into the show's most controversial (and my favorite) season.
Also I'm never going to stop thinking about this graphic from it.

If nothing else, I think lefttube/breadtube discourse reveals how twitter literally rots your brain. People who have made entire careers off of making thoughtful, introspective multimedia essays get on the bird app and drop the most ludicrous, brain-dead takes you'll hear from someone with more than 1000 followers. Just head-in-ass levels of poorly thought out, no-nuance, terminally online drivel. Some people will see this as the mask slipping from their perfectly polished personas, but I don't buy into that interpretation. Sure, people are more likely to speak off the cuff on an app like twitter, meaning they put their thoughts through less of a filter, but I think this phenomenon speaks to how twitter encourages reactionary behaviour more than it says about any individual.
Creators who are usually very professional and reasonable will suddenly jump on some internet drama without doing even the bare minimum of research, because they're supposed to have a "hot take" on a situation that most of the time doesn't even involve them, because twitter drives people to engage, for better or for worse (but mostly for worse)

i just realized why i was so convinced Good Omens is just queerbaiting during my first watch through of the show-
ITS BECAUSE FUCKING BBC SHERLOCK DID THE "PEOPLE MAKING JOKES ABOUT THE TWO MAIN CHARACTERS BEING GAY" THING-
why did the man saying "i've been there, you're better off without him" feel so familiar? because it's the good omens equivalent of Irene Adler saying "yes you are" when john says he and sherlock aren't a couple.
when i read the book, hearing the line about how Anathema "had been safe after all" when Crowley called Aziraphale 'angel' made the "this sounds like the kinda thing Sarah Z would make a video essay about" alarm in my brain go off-
however, based off the trailers and Neil Gaiman's internet presence, this time it won't result in a conspiracy surrounding the presidential inauguration and a fake ARG

I stayed away from the fandom for years. Can you summarize for me how Hussie (and some of his "friends") became such hated figures in this fandom? I know very little about what happened with Sarah Z's video and the drama of homestuck reddit vs kate mitchell
Andrew Hussie and WhatPumpkin had tried to sue Sarah Z for libel because of her critique on the shitty sequel that is Homestuck 2. It didn't help that HS2 was put on a long hiatus since December 25, 2020. He sent her a most unprofessional email like he would. But it wasn't until later on that it was revealed that Homestuck 2 was actually a money laundering scheme by Andrew Hussie to pay off his debts towards Viz Media. He lied to his freelance artists, claiming they are working on the project to help bring the series back to its full glory. The most funny part is that Hussie had tried to pitch Homestuck^2 to Viz Media and they rightfully REJECTED this and told him it was the bad idea. But he didn't listen. Andrew Hussie then decided to leave his name out of Homestuck, any future projects relating to it, including the HIveswap game that he Kickstarted and had misued the money, to live off with his money on IP alone. As for the Homestuck Reddit vs Kate Mitchell, besides the whole fact that Kate Mitchell is controversial for making lots of questionable remarks, takes, and had LITERALLY ADVERTISED HER NUDES ON HER PERSONAL ACCOUNT THAT WAS USED TO TALK TO HOMESTUCK FANS, she and Hussie had found out that Makin, the head of Homestuck Community Reddit and Discord, had created Homestuck.net. Which is an archive site for all things Homestuck media related. From art assets, fan games, music resources, and of course, Patreon exclusive posts for Homestuck^2. It was back in the early 2020s, way before the hiatus and Hussie cutting himself off. Andrew Hussie, Kate Mitchell, and others in WhatPumpkin like Aysha, are upset at them. Thinking they are infringing copyright in preserving some of the lost sprite art and other materials related to the series. There was rumors someone, not sure if it was WhatPumpkin or some random defender of Hussie, had accused Homestuck Community Discord, was sharing CHILD PORN, which was untrue. Andrew Hussie had sent emails to the mods and Makin, requesting the latter step down from his position and let Hussie and WhatPumpkin take control of the Discord. He also asked question about the mods sexuality for the sake of 'gender and sex composition'. Of course by the end, it failed and Makin is still around. I don't think it's been made public on either Twitter or Tumblr, as it is just kept within the Discord server itself. But they had release the email transcripts in a PDF file about all this. Of course, Makin isn't too much of a saint either as he accused the artist (HONE) for 'normalizing' the characters and plagiarizing a fan edit, not realizing who it was that made all the Homestuck Requiem promo art and that it was made WAAAAY before Pesterquest was out and approved by Viz Media themselves. He would then find out who it was and backpedaled, likely not having directly apologizing to HONE. The way I see it is two tards fighting each other. Wanna view the PDF file? (˵ •̀ ᴗ - ˵ ) ✧ I have been meaning to document some of the controversies and drama within the Homestuck series. Be it from Hussie, Whatpumpkin, and any other major incident. From how one Homestuck musician got kicked out for accusing Hussie on mistreatment of his music team to spending $10k on an office in New York to work on Hiveswap, it would be a history of all the things that had happened behind the scenes with evidence to back it up.
