Short Debts Make Long Friends - snippet from chapter 9
“Forgive my curiosity, madam,” Mr. Sams says to you as Mando suspiciously examines the screen, “but what was it that inspired his sudden change of heart regarding the droid?”
This was too easy.
“I made it worth his while.”
Mando turns his head very, very slowly in your direction.
“By bringing him breakfast,” you add hastily.
“In bed, I hope?” asks Mr. Sams without missing a beat.
A thoughtful look crosses your face. “Actually – ”
“What’s your return policy?” The metallic edge in Mando’s voice has dropped in pitch, the same low, menacing tone he had once used with a certain fledgling Mythrol, who definitely never made it home in time for Life Day.
Mr. Sams places a regretful hand to his chest.
“I’m afraid all sales are final,” he apologetically intones. He turns to you again, all ears. Literally. “What were you saying, my dear?”
Mando, also very interested in what you were saying, looks back at you.
Umm…
“Why don’t I just wait outside?” you suggest, not trusting yourself to keep your mouth shut.
“Try not to wander off,” Mando sarcastically advises as you start edging away from the counter.
For the first time the shopkeeper's superfluously gracious air shows the slightest sign of wear. “That’s a rather overbearing attitude, don’t you think?” he sniffs, not trying to hide his disapproval.
“Oh, it’s fine,” you reassure him, “He let me go for a walk all by myself yesterday.”
The visor is boring holes into your skull again.

I'm finally getting around to watching a few episodes of Ahsoka (after only watching the double-episode premiere up until this point) and...
I LOVE Huyang. He's the best! And not just because he's voiced by David Tennant, although that's awesome too. He's just perfect--snarky and sassing the other characters and reminding them that he represents a millennia of Jedi tradition and history and that the Jedi were GOOD for that whole millennia and that their history and traditions MATTER. He's easily the best droid character since R2-D2.
Huyang is awesome and I love him.
The rest of the series... I could leave it without a single regret. It just does nothing for me. *shrug*

✨️Last Line Tag!🪲
I haven't been posting the games I've been tagging in lately, but I haven't forgotten! Thank you, @asterhaze for this tag!
Tagging: @writernopal @mysticstarlightduck @abalonetea @an-theduckin @mrbexwrites @hhabaddon @lena-rambles @forthesanityofsome and anyone who wants to join (open tag)!
This Last Line (with a bit of context) comes from Elijah’s POV from the hit WIP Crater City:
A warning shot fired two inches above Blair’s free hand.
"You know, with a few tweaks, I can have you firing with 99.9% accuracy in no time--"
Without moving, Vestal blasted another purple laser, converting his finger into a swirl of neon drops on the ground. Blair wore a look of bewilderment as his remaining wit attempted to piece together what had just happened.
...
What a silly fun time! Soon, Blair will run out of fingers to vaporize... I suppose then I'll take out his entire hand one day. We'll see if he can redeem himself after that last battle. "What battle?" He asks. I roll my eyes, I know he's only playing dumb.
...
🚗 Want to rot your brain with each sporadic Crater City post? Join the taglist! Maybe I'll finish this wip someday, who knows! (ask to be added/removed): @writeouswriter @lyra-brie @digitalsatyr23

In celebration of "Short Debts" reaching 400 kudos...here's a snippet!
Mando grips your elbow, steering you away from the lumpy heap on the ground that you had stopped to look at. It’s the size of a large beanbag, vaguely potato-ish in shape, with orange caulk bulging through the cracks in its rocky surface.
“Are traffic hazards encouraged around here?” you ask him, baffled. “Who leaves a giant rock sitting out in the middle of the road?”
He steps half-behind you and quickens the pace to keep you moving forward.
“That’s not a rock,” he says once you’ve passed by. “It’s a horta, and they don’t like being stared at.”
“It’s alive?!” Now you really want to see. You try to duck around him but he’s too quick on the stick with the Eleanor Maneuver. Without even having to look, he hooks you around the waist with his arm and hauls you in front again.
“Of course it’s alive," he answers as you both resume walking.
“But why isn’t it moving?”
“Because it’s pupating.”
You make another run for the space potato, with the same results, but by this point you've made it across the street.
(Yes, I know the Horta are from Star Trek.)
