Started watching Happy Sugar Life for the second time, and been trying to decide how i see the relationship between Satou and Shio.

I definitely dont see it as sexual, but i really dont know if i think its romantic or not. Like i dont think theyre actually in romantic love, i think theyve both attached to each other because of trauma and not understanding what love is, so they (or at least Satou) think that they love them romantically, when in actual fact it probably isnt.

I guess i ship them in a kind of queer-platonic way. Its definitely a very interesting relationship to explore, and honestly i just think its cute.

ALSO IT SHOULD GO WITHOUT SAYING THAT I DO NOT SUPPORT OR LIKE RELATIONSHIPS OF THIS SORT IN REAL LIFE, ONLY FICTION.

SatouShio Propaganda (Underage, Age Gap - Satou is 15 and Shio is 8, Unhealthy dynamic - Satou keeps Shio locked inside constantly)

"Those that know Happy Sugar Life might be looking at this ship with the question of "How does a fifteen year old yandere kidnapping and isolating an eight year old child make it a good ship?" - To begin with, there's the fact that Satou's love is based on love alone, rather than lust. Before meeting Shio, she'd go through hundreds of boys using lust (not as an emotion, but tactic) to try and figure out if any could spark love, but none did. Due to her past with her aunt, she wasn't able to spark any emotion, all of it was falsified. Upon meeting Shio, and Shio explaining what she felt love was, Satou felt her first true emotions in a long time.

On top of that, out of every character in Happy Sugar Life, as bad as Satou can be, she is the best person for Shio to be with - and there is no arguing otherwise. If she heads back to her father, she'll be beaten and abused. If she goes with her brother Asahi and her mother, she'd be starving and impoverished - on top of that, Shio's mother outright openly stated she was abandoning Shio when Satou first met her, and Taiyou almost outright states he desires Shio physically, unlike Satou's emotional-focused desires. If we look at the scenes Shio goes outside, the streets are as dangerous for her as Satou's claiming during Shio's isolation. Satou taking Shio back to the apartment they stay in was the best case scenario for Shio.

In episode 5, Shio even states that she loves Satou - more than anyone in her family - and that Satou is warmer than her family. It's hard to make an argument that Shio should be with anyone but Satou, despite the nature of the anime. Shio wants to be there, and is better off there than she would be with anyone else. Satou may be a murderer, but in all cases of murder it's either to protect Shio's safety outright, or to protect their relationship together - Satou loves Shio romantically, and Shio loves Satou back. While some may argue Satou's love is familial, they kiss on the lips in episode 2, recite wedding vows every night, and have another more intimate chaste kiss in episode 11 during a pseudo-wedding where they exchange rings."

"Satou also doesn't see this reason for murder as a bad thing, nor the murder as a bad thing - it's justified to her because she's protecting Shio and their love. The first thing she ever apologises to Shio for is kissing another girl and telling someone else she loves them - it was a lie to the other girl, but Satou still breaks down apologising to Shio for betraying their love this way. The only thing that matters to her is that she treats Shio with true love. Being with Satou brings Shio happiness and joy, and being with Shio is the only thing bringing Satou any form of emotion. Shio is her light and her reason for continuing on, she'd give up without her. The two are doomed from the start, with Satou dying and Shio keeping both wedding rings and Satou's ribbon, claiming Satou is in her heart and they're together forever now, but I am near certain if Shio didn't ask Satou to die together, they would've been able to find a way to retain a happy love life after leaving the town."

Bwen Propaganda (Incest - Cousins, Species Difference - Gwen is part Anodite)

"During the original series, Ben and Gwen were almost always bickering, arguing, name-calling (calling each other "Doofus" or "Dweebs"), making fun of each other, or fighting. They had a love/hate relationship. However, deep down they really do care about each other as shown on various occasions throughout the show. Especially in Secret of The Omnitrix, when Ben would go far lengths to keep Gwen out of danger. Such as transforming into Four Arms, despite the fact that the Omnitrix's self-destruct mode countdown would only accelerate. When he found out that she was still alive, he ran through the open field of heavy fire in order to hug her.

In the Omniverse continuation, even though Gwen went to college early in the show, both have openly stated that they miss each other a lot (hugging one another before she left in The More Things Change: Part 1). Gwen ALSO runs to hug Ben when he returns to Earth in The Frogs of War: Part 2. While I'm also very much an original continuation type of girl, their bickering relationship is toned down immensely in the 2016 reboot with more heartfelt and considerate moments between Ben and Gwen looking out for each other."

"First and Latest Incest Ships"

I'm not sure how much it counts as "True" incest, due to the backstory of these characters being unclear on if they were simply friends, or genuinely related, before the events of the series - but my first incest ship was all of the Delightful Children From Down The Lane from Codename: Kids Next Door with each other. I had more ships with Ashley specifically, but none of them incest.

My latest incest ship is one that I'm not sure has a proper name, but I've seen called "Lyncest" - Lyney and Lynette from Genshin Impact. In Lyney's story quest we learn of floral symbolism in Teyvat, and that Rainbow Roses represent love. Lynette gets a little jealous when she sees Lyney hand someone else a Rainbow Rose before she ever gets one from him. It made me ship them so fast.

27. "First & Latest ships with a yandere"

My first ship with a yandere was caused thanks to @ask-the-matsus-and-ayano-blog's blog a while ago. The ship (obviously) being Ayano Aishi and all the Matsuno siblings. This post in particular made me adore how the ship is shown. They're such a cute polycule!

My latest ship with a yandere is definitely SatouShio - Satou Matsuzaka and Shio Koube from Happy Sugar Life. Satou is so determined to protect Shio from being taken away or hurt by the outside world that she goes to extreme lengths, often not healthy for Shio's development or enrichment - but despite that she's trying to give what she can to balance things out. It's just expensive and difficult... They were about to run away together to possibly counter that lack of enrichment, but sometimes things go very wrong all at once.

28. "First & Latest enemies ships"

I'm going to be perfectly honest here, I'm not really an enemies shipper when it comes to most things. I can only really think of two ships that fit the bill, and even then, I'm not sure the latter would be aware of each other as enemies.

The first would be Ashley of the Delightful Children From Down The Lane with Fanny Fulbright/Numbuh 86 from Codename: Kids Next Door. I liked the idea of Ashley sneaking off to hang out with a KND member as non-enemies from time to time, and Numbuh 86 doing the same to relax after a difficult day of working decommissioning. Their very different attitudes to life had me thinking they'd make a cute overly-loud blunt girl x polite goody-two-shoes trope.

My latest, which I'm not sure would even be aware of each other as enemies, is Childe/Tartaglia/Ajax and Amber from Genshin Impact. Childe is a Fatui Harbinger, while Amber is an Outrider for the Knights of Favonius, who aren't exactly on the best terms with the Fatui. Amber is also a bow user, as is Childe - but it's canonical that the bow is the weapon that Childe is the worst at using, to the point he throws his last arrow instead of shooting it. I like to imagine Amber seeing him use a bow this way, and immediately come over to teach him proper holding stance and position, not recognizing he's Fatui. I'm sure we all know how weapon teaching classes can go with ships over time... lots of fluff and cute contact potential.

This has been in my head for the past day so let me just brainrot this out really quick.

What if Spy x Family took on some more… Happy Sugar Life esque events?

It just makes so much sense to me lol

Loid could potentially not know what love is, just like Sato Matsuzaka. Just like her, he had lost his parents at a young age, though the circumstances were different

They both look to be around the same age as to when they lost their parents, and since Loid was drafted into the war at a young age (I think anyways, correct me if I’m wrong) he would be raised without love and could very well end up the same as Sato had.

Humans naturally have a need for affection, and being raised without it, as in Sato’s case, would lead to confusion and uncertainty when receiving it. I think anyways, I’m not a health expert.

So with that said, theoretically, Loid could be going through life not knowing what love is and wants to learn as he craves it, but is unable to reciprocate any feelings for anyone. So he’s confused and lost.

So then, what about Shio?

Shio was Satou’s driving force for all of her actions, essentially being the fuel to the fire. Shio had also allegedly taught Satou what love was and introduced her to new feelings that she hadn’t received as a child.

Where is the child in all this?

Well, that’s where Anya comes into play.

Anya, at this time, had just run away from the institute. She still has her telepathy powers, and as such, is being searched for high and low.

So how would this come into play?

Loid is a spy and currently working on Operation Strix, and needs to obtain a child and a wife in order to get close to his target. He had bought the apartment and is now working on obtaining a child.

Due to searching for a good apartment, paperwork and everything, the task had taken all day and now it is nighttime. Most, if not all orphanages are closed and obtaining a child would not be possible until tomorrow.

He’s walking around aimlessly at night, attracting female attention. He’s given up on finding love long ago, as that mission had gone to flames much like his identification papers.

He turns down an alleyway, not having much in mind.

And then he runs into Anya.

Now, when they meet, both of them instantly hit it off. Loid needs a child for Operation Strix, and Anya needs a place to hide. It’s a win-win for everyone.

Though, for Loid, it’s a bit more than that.

He asks her where her parents are, as he doesn’t know this child and doesn’t want to take her away from anyone. Anya says she doesn’t have a family. Loid asks her if she loves anyone, as that could make more sense to a child.

Anya says that she only loves ‘those people’ because she wanted to live. And that isn’t love at all.

Loid realizes that this girl could teach him what love is. So, with that in mind, he takes her to his place and cares for her, consequentially learning about parental love in the meantime.
