Davao Today on Twitter @/DavaoToday:
WATCH: The Save Our Schools Network Southern Mindanao posted a video of Bai Lita Ambuat, niece of the late Talaingod chieftain Bai Bibyaon Ligkayan Bigkay. Ambuat accompanied Bigkay for the past twenty years and said they fulfilled Bibyaon’s wish to be buried right away.
The chieftain sought sanctuary in Manila until her death last November 20.
Ambuat refuted her relatives, Rurelyn Mandacawan and Benito Bigkay, who requested the exhumation of the remains of Bibyaon, saying this is against the tradition of the Manobo. She also accused both of them of trying to take advantage of this matter to take money.
Mandacawan and Bigkay appeared last February 23 in a press conference with the Mindanao Indigenous People’s Council of Elders, a group that openly red-tagged the Lumad schools that Bibyaon had helped establish and defended.

'Matt Damon has been praised for his response to a reporter’s question about teachers’ salaries in a newly resurfaced video.
The actor, who most recently featured in Christopher Nolan‘s Oppenheimer, attended a Save Our Schools march in Washington DC in August 2011, with interview footage from the event revealing Damon’s commitment to the cause.
In a recorded interview with Reason.TV – during which Damon stood alongside his mother, who is a teacher – the actor was asked a question that suggested teachers would work harder if they had less job security, similar to the unreliable nature of acting jobs.
“You think job insecurity is what makes me work hard?” Damon replied. “I want to be an actor, it’s not an incentive.”
He went on: “That’s the thing, see, you take this MBA-style thinking, right? It’s the problem with ed policy right now.
“There’s this intrinsically paternalistic view of problems that are much more complex than that. It’s like saying a teacher is going to get lazy when they have tenure, a teacher wants to teach.”
He added: “I mean, why else would you take a shitty salary and really long hours and do that job unless you really love to do it?”
The cameraman then chimed in to claim that “10 per cent of teachers are bad”, to which Damon’s mother asked: “Where did you get that number?”
The operator replied: “I don’t know, 10 per cent of people in any profession maybe should think of something else.”
“Well, OK,” Damon responded. “But maybe you’re a shitty cameraman, I don’t know.”
Viewers have since been heaping praise on the actor for his defence of the teaching profession. “Matt Damon absolutely decimating these people who are suggesting job insecurity is important for incentivising hard work as opposed to passion, all on behalf of his teacher mother is just really damn refreshing,” one Twitter user wrote.
“Matt Damon nails it,” another person added. “This Matt Damon clip should be reposted by every teacher in America,” a third said.
One person wrote that “damn Will Hunting jumped outta him for a second”, referencing his role as the sharp-tongued titular character in 1997 film Good Will Hunting, in which he plays a janitor at MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) with a genius IQ.
The actor has been vocal about workers’ rights more recently in the midst of the current actor and writers’ strikes in Hollywood.
Speaking to Associated Press at an Oppenheimer London photo call in July, Damon said that “we ought to protect the people who are kind of on the margins”.
He went on: “And 26,000 bucks a year is what you have to make to get your health insurance. And there are a lot of people whose residual payments are what carry them across that threshold. And if those residual payments dry up, so does their health care. And that’s absolutely unacceptable. We can’t have that. So, we got to figure out something that is fair.”'

Something has to Change
My engagement photo with Mr. Lee. 1994. In 1994 I was a brand new teacher. School was my way out of a poverty cycle as a student and again as a teacher. That year I made in the low $20k range, but it changed my life. My daughter was able to take dance and gymnastics classes. She went to childcare at the Y. We went to the doctor when we were sick, no question. Insurance paid. No question. We…

What's stopping the possibility of a ceasefire is pretty simple. Hamas is holding 239 Israeli civilians hostage including children and the elderly. What's happening in Palestine is a travesty and horrendous. But Israel can't initiate a ceasefire from the position they're in, so we need to be agitating for Hamas to release the hostages and call for a ceasefire instead.
NO GENOCIDE IS JUSTIFIABLE
HOW DOES THE KILLING OF INNOCENT PEOPLE ON THIS EXTREME LEVEL FORCE HAMAS TO RETURN HOSTAGES??
ISRAEL'S BOMBARDMENT AND INDISCRIMINATE SHOOTING IN GAZA THREATEN EVERYONE THERE INCLUDING DOCTORS JOURNALISTS CHILDREN ENTIRE FAMILIES AND THE HOSTAGES
EVERYONE IS TARGETED
YOU HAVE HOSPITALS BOMBED HOW ANY OF THIS IS JUSTIFIED

And another thing! Literally any queer story that takes place during the colonial age would have a huge gaping hole in it if it didn't have anticolonialism as a theme. Especially one that centers indigenous people. Like the reason that every culture had their own concepts of gender until something happened and then suddenly the gender binary was ubiquitous is because western European colonial powers made their view of gender the only acceptable one as part of christianizing and colonizing the world. You're not gonna have a show set in 1717 in the Caribbean where the love interest is a gay Maori man and the main deuteragonist is a non-binary mestizo catholic and just skip over colonialism. Like these are exactly the people who western gender roles are being forced on at fucking gun point during this era. Jim and Ed are both mixed race characters who's gender and sexual identities are in active defiance of the colonial powers that be. And this is the fucking Stede Ed and Jim show.
And there's something to be said for the fact that Stede's toxic masculinity plot line is internalized and Ed's struggle with toxic masculinity is largely external in the form a white guy who rubs elbows with the British Navy when Ed doesn't behave to his standard of masculinity. That choice didn't come out of nowhere and it shows a deep understanding of where homophobia comes from. That's not to say that precolonial communities of color were paradise for people that we today would consider queer but the rich tapestry of sexual and gender expressions that existed in those communities were erased in the name of colonialism. That's going to affect literally any queer person at the time when OFMD is set. These two things are inextricably linked.
Like when David Jenkins says a lot of what we're taught about being men is wrong, motherfucker who taught us what a man was. Who taught Ed what a man was? Who taught Stede what a man was for that matter? It's the white dad with the English accent who is violent (derogatory) and overbearing.
Like you get what I'm saying right? Like it's a silly little rom com but also it must necessarily be that deep because of who these characters are and when and where they exist.

hey man. i'm just saying. why would we put inexperienced teenagers with over-inflated egos and obvious emotional issues into combat classes and make them claw their way to the top of their dorms and expect things to just run smoothly. who actually thought this
#the reason rsa doesn't have overblots is because they understand the joy and whimsy of life and friendship btw#LIKE. why is there no school counselor?? do you know how much time & resources & effort & TRAUMA we could have saved the students &#school from if ANYONE had reached out to riddle and was like 'hey are you alright i heard xyz and i wanted to let you know...' ESPECIALLY#since TREY LITERALLY TELLS US 'oh well here's the lowdown on her trauma this is Probably what is causing this'#or if someone sat down to tell leona 'hey! i'm rooting for you in ur magift(?) game! you're my fav player!!' AND LET HIM FEEL NOTICED#or if someone approached azul as an Equal to try to stop his plans. as a friend even. BEYOND A BUSINESS TRANSACTION#or if ANYBODY BUT ESPECIALLY KALIM was like 'jamil i think you should follow your passions and do something you enjoy today!!' or AT LEAST#let him know he was appreciated as a person NOT JUST FOR HIS WORK#'i know you're doing a lot today but i just wanted to thank you for how much Effort you put into this and..' etc etc etc#ERM.. IF ANYONE TREATED VIL LIKE A HUMAN BEING AND NOT A CELEBRITY??? or even 'hey i loved you in this film i was wondering if we could#do a play together or something..!!' AND LET HER TRY A TYPE OF CHARACTER SHE NEVER GOT THE OPPORTUNITY TO BE. and sing her praises.#if anyone reached out to idia beyond a 'hey the teacher said to come to class'/'get out of your bed and come to our housewarden meeting'#or even. IF ORTHO HIMSELF was like. 'you know it's not your fault... you didn't cause all of this. not really' OR SOMETHING#or if malleus ever got to experience a small firsthand loss AND WAS COMFORTED THROUGH IT. not just quick fix via magic. not replacing. just#GRIEVING SOMETHING??????? and wasn't feared by literally everyone#um. maybe the real twisted part is that all of this tragedy was easily preventable if we had a support system in place.#but idk. twst is a highschool. there's no support in real high school either. i'd probably overblot too if i could ajdjrjfinfdndjd#twst#chatter#LONG RAMBLE SORRY#yes overblots are essential to the plot. but also. do you know how frustrating it is watching the blot build up and sitting in silence.#I'M SORRY IK IF SOMETHING LIKE THIS WAS HAPPENING TO A GUY I JUST MET I WOULD PROBABLY NOT NOTICE.. but of it was my Friend or Housewarden..#I'D ASK BRO.... I'D ASK ... UGHHHHHUUUHHHH#not that anyone would notice if *I* was about to lose it tbh#speaks volumes about our society o think#OKAY NOW I'M DONE FOR REAL

I think it’s be funny to have a Spider-Man that is genuinely just a kid, not like a teenager or a kid who understands the gravity of his abilities but a kid who does heroics simply because that’s cool to a kid.
The gimmick is that the villains think it’s a gimmick and Spider-Man(?) fucks with them by acting like a kid to make ‘em feel bad or embarrass them only for them to realize he’s a literal child due to a forced team up where they like offer him a brewski afterwards and he’s legitimately like “Mr I am 9 years old, I just do this cause my aunt can’t take me to the park every afternoon.” And they grill him on adult things and he sits there just blanking cause he’s fucking 9.

Philippine Collegian, official student publication of UP Diliman, on Twitter @phkule:
Dalawang taon makalipas, nanatili ang kawalan ng hustisya para sa pagpaslang ng estado kina Chad Booc at sa New Bataan 5. Sa hamon na paglingkuran ang taumbayan, mananatiling buhay ang legasiya na iniwan ng mga tulad nina Booc na buong-loob nakipamuhay kasama ang masa at nagsilbing guro sa higit na nangangailangan.

Finding out that over 100 public schools in the UK were build with flimsy concrete and that the tory government knew that it had to be replaced for years but did nothing about it shows exactly why you should never fucking vote conservative

“There is nothing heroic about convincing unhappy children and adolescents who are confused about the changes in their bodies—and desperate for trustworthy adult guidance—that the solution to all their problems are cross dressing, breast binding, puberty blockers, or surgical alteration of their genitals.”

Hiding in the event of a School Shooting
Tumblr media
In this post I’m going to list what are the safest places to hide within a school if there isn’t a safe way outside or you are not safely in a classroom going through lockdown procedure. This is entirely hypothetical; you won't necessarily be involved but in the event of a school shooting it’s best to know how to stay safe just in case.
- A janitor's closet that can lock from the inside (preferably one that is not within the main parts of the school.)
- An elevator (make sure it’s closed and not moving.)
- Sub-rooms within room (storage rooms in music and art rooms most likely would be some of the safest.)
- Offices within the guidance/main office (navigating through the guidance/main office is times consuming, rarely have windows, and lock from the inside, making them fairly safe.)
- If you can, within a locker (an active shooter will most likely not look through all of the lockers in the school.)
- If there is a basement or area that only has pipes (it most likely won’t come into an active shooters mind to check, just avoid any electrical rooms/sections.)
- Small storage cabinets within an empty classroom (the shooter most likely would not enter an empty classroom to begin with and the cabinet would safely conceal you.)
- 1 person bathrooms (they typically have better locks on the doors of 1 person bathrooms and a shooter most likely wouldn’t think about them.)
** In the event that you can get outside GO OUTSIDE, and if there are no police outside already here are some helpful tips: **
- Hide behind cars (make sure you’re concealed from any windows.)
- Get away from the school grounds (nearby neighborhoods/businesses.)
- When running out/away from the school, run zigzags (this makes you a harder target.)
- Even if you don’t have a set destination, keep running until you feel as though there is absolutely no way you could be seen from the school.
!!!NOTIFY AUTHORITIES!!! Even if you think somebody already has, do it anyways. Also, if you saw/know the shooter give a description to the police (it could help them.)
Again, this is entirely hypothetical, but safety is key, and these are just some things that came to mind, feel free to add more.
I understand Mental Health is extremely important too, but should it ever get to there being an active shooter please read these, so you know what to do in that unfortunate situation.
Please be safe in schools.
