my sister had her virtual graduation ceremony today, and they had the students doing their little parts, like speeches, readings (Catholic school). the one guy who was playing his sax for the musical meditation apparently had free reign over what he played. and he chose to play, of ALL THINGS, “leaves from the vine.”
Excellent video that does a deep dive on what makes a solo “good”
Lester Young at his zenith…
More than anything, I miss making music together with other musicians. I think it was the great tenor saxophonist, Lester Young, who said, “playing good music to a good audience is the most fun you can legally have with your clothes on.”
It’s Ferling Friday! 🎷
This is one of my favourites I remember falling in love with it months ago!
The ending still challenges me, alternate fingering still clunky on that low C but better than it was 💪🏻
I’m always concerned when I see someone crack their fingers before playing the piano (or violin or any other). How are their fingers still okay? Don’t they feel fear when they hear and feel the cracking of their joints?
