dsmp fanfic idea cause we won’t do anything with it, and you guys might. (you don’t have to credit us if you use it, but let us know if you write it?)
Foster system AU, Wilbur and Tommy are biological brothers. They’re separated early into their time in the foster system, where Tommy meets Techno, and Techno sort of protects him, takes him under his wing, etc etc.
Eventually Philza comes along and adopts Techno, and Phil can’t care for both kids, so he has to separate Techno and Tommy.
Once he’s old enough / Phil’s stable enough, Tommy also gets adopted by Phil, but they don’t realize who each other are.
Once they get there, Wilbur was also adopted by Philza, and almost immediately recognizes Tommy, but doesn’t want to get his hopes up, so he kinda pushes Tommy away/resents him, and ends up also being resentful to Techno because Tommy recognizes him, and so Techno gets the brotherly bond that HE wanted, with someone who looks like (is actually) HIS brother.

hey so sbi (+ others) foster au fics are great, ok, like I love them. They're one of the main types of fics I read. But Kristian and Phil are almost never together in them. Like either she's dead, just doesn't exist, or they start dating after the fostering starts. The main exception I've seen is in ones where it's not set in a realistic world and she's like literal Death, but she's still not too involved in the story.
I think it would be cool if they were married in one and just decided to foster for whatever reason. I know there's some but personally I've just not seen a ton unless specifically searching for them being together in particular.

okay so this is about the hanahaki au
two ideas because its been spinning in my brain just a smidge insanely
1) if it took place in dsmp canon. based on the idea that the hanahaki takes root after someone believes the other does not care for them. techno with wilbur and tommy. its after the red festival. up until then techno had been growing some semblance of allyship with them, and it was slowly branching into friendship. techno thought it was slowly branching into friendship. sure he was only there to supply them things and they were only around him to make sure he was supplying them things but he begins to think they care. then the red festival happens. wilbur leaves him by himself on the pedestal, leaves him there to die, and leaves him there to make the choice of whether to kill or to not. wilbur would have killed techno, wouldnt have hesitated, if he hadnt lost the button. directly after that happens, even though technos hands are clearly injured and hes trying to give his side, tommy and wilbur insist on settling it. insist that techno is in the wrong and insist on fighting it out. insist on further pushing him. and of course he beats tommy, its not even a contest. even with his hands mangled like they are from the fireworks blast. that night he feels something settle in his throat, in his lungs. he decides its just the dust stirred up from the pit fight deciding to rest there. techno continues to fight for them, but he realizes what the relationship looks like from the other side. that he is not their friend or their ally. hes not even their enemy. because youd have to be a person to someone to be their enemy. breathing continues to get harder. its like the walls are closing in on him, except that they only settle in on his lungs. the revolution happens. wilbur dies. techno starts coughing up lavendar flowers spotted with poppy petals. phil is there, and phil visits techno, and phil loves techno and techno loves him back. but phil cannot stop the garden that techno coughs up more and more of every day. he can only sit by his friends side, and hope that techno can somehow find a way to ease the pain.
maybe after that techno and ghostbur have a talk, before the butcher army closes in. and during the conversation techno tells him to leave, tells him he doesnt want him hurt. and ghostbur insists on staying and helping, because techno is his friend and he loves him. techno doesnt have time to know if that was even enough, or if it would even work, because then the butcher army is slamming their fists against his door. and after that, he dies. but not really. but he springs back to life and his lungs are clear. he can feel air move through his throat and into his chest unobstructed. a side effect of the totem. the flowers were not a part of him, were only a pesky virus, and for that reason were destroyed and not revived. techno goes back to find tommy in his cabin, except its not like before. he cares for tommy, that much is the same, but tommy seems to be growing to care for him too. seems to see him as more than just protection. technos lungs remain clear. but then the green festival happens. then tommy chooses his side. and red petals start to coat technos throat again
im so sorry i keep throwing full paragraphs into your inbox king jfkdhdk

I don't know what's funnier, you apologizing for throwing full paragraphs into my inbox as if those aren't welcomed with open arms, ESPECIALLY if they're going to wrench my heart out and make me sad about c!Techno in the best way possible...
Or the fact that you forgot the second idea-

HIGHLY doubt any of you will know but there was this author ok. and they wrote sbi. and i vividly remember this one fic where tommy accidentally calls technoblade thinking it was the number for a therapist. and technoblade calls back and hes like Hey Man Wrong Number. and then they become friends or something and then they go to a used records shop and buy back the records that one of them sold after (I THINK) tubbo’s death. and it was awesome.

Cars had always made Tommy uncomfortable.
For him cars usually meant that he was once again on his way to a new home.
He didn't like how often he changed homes, how often he changed families.
Those aren't things that should change and they definitely shouldnt change so often.
Tommy missed his parents.
no matter how much he tried to pretend he didn't he would never not miss them.
He also missed his friends, he'd lost contact with them after the accident, after he started moving family to family house to house all around the country.
He missed everything about his old life but he couldn't dwell on the past for too long. It's much harder to deal with your present situation if you're stuck in the past.
Right now he was on his way to another home.
This would be his second home in a month. To say he was nervous was an understatement. He didn't want to let niki; his social worker, down. She really thought this family was the best option for him, she thought that this could be his forever home. Tommy had to be perfect for this family, he couldn't make any mistakes. No complaining, no arguing, and no mention of his real parents whenever he had mentioned them in other houses he'd been scolded he was told it was disrespectful to talk about jus 'old' family. so he would be sure to not say anything about them. Those were his simple, easy to follow, short list of rules.
The car stopped. Tommy had been completely spaced out almost the whole ride and hadn't even realized they had pulled into a driveway.
“Are you gonna be ok tommy?”
He hesitated. Niki asked this question at every new house, but he still never knew how to answer.
“Yea…”
Was all he was able to say. And with that they got out of the car and walked up to the front door.
Niki knocked on the door
Tommys nerves were practically on fire at this point.
Just dont fuck up he thought to himself
He would be okay as long as he followed his rules.
The door opened.
Tommy stepped behind niki, wanting to have that little bit of extra protection for as long as he could. He kept his eyes glued to the ground not knowing if it would be ok for him to look at the figure in the doorway.
“Hello”
Tommy looked up.
That voice was much deeper than he had expected, it took him by surprise.
The figure in the door was an odd sight to say the least.
They were tall, and had long pink hair that had been braided and draped over their shoulder, but that was what Tommy found strange.
What he found strange was their outfit. They looked like princes; it wasn't the kind of style you see very often. Tommy wouldn't have been surprised if they pulled out a sword. It made Tommy even more nervous. Someone who dressed like that must have incredibly high standards, the kind that Tommy definitely wouldn't be able to meet.
“Techno! It's good to see you '' Techno, Tommy remembered niki talking about him, about everyone in this family, so this figure was going to be his brother for the foreseeable future.
Great.
“This is Tommy, I'm assuming Phil told you about him. By the way, where is phil?”
The way niki spoke so casually, so friendly, confused Tommy. Was she not intimidated by techno at least a little?
“He's home. I'll go get him” Tommy got the impression techno wasn't much of a talker.
As he disappeared into the house niki turned to him “i know you're nervous but i've known these people for a very long time i'm sure you'll fit right in!”
“Yea… thanks” Tommy knew she was trying to be comforting but those words only made him more nervous, if he didn't fit in. If this didn't work out he didn't want to disappoint niki, or even worse ruin her relationship with this family.
Before his thoughts could spiral any more techno reapered with two more figures tommy would be lying if he were to say he wasn't anxious as fuck but what did that matter now he probably wouldn't be around these people long
"hey mate, you must be tommy it's a pleasure to meet you!" a blonde man wearing a weird striped bucket hat spoke "im phil. and these are my sons techno and wil." well now he had a name to pair with this new face. to pair with all the new faces
tommy wasn't sure how he should respond so he just gave a little wave and muttered out a small "hi"

no big thread today, just a few little drabbles :)
Cryptid AU where kid Tommy’s accidentally been adopted by the monsters around (and in) his house.
Just the idea of having a nightmare, then intentionally unplugging the nightlight & going to the monster under his bed for comfort :)
Going for a nice midnight walk for fresh air & being trailed by the things that live in the woods. Shutting the curtains so the monster in his basement can help with chores.
Bonus if it’s a foster AU, but Tommy’s happy because he has a family everywhere he goes!
Vague idea of a Bodyguard/Shifter AU with toddler/kitten Tommy and his absolutely terrifying team of bodyguards.
Just a fully armored group of trained professionals, one with a cross-chested baby carrier that doubles as a bullet-proof box (with a tiny kitten inside!).
Bonus points if Tommy knows *exactly* how scary & competent his guards are.
Doesn’t ask, “Can I swim?” — just throws himself into the nearest body of water and giggles when three uniformed & armored bodyguards dive in to rescue him.
Little Bounty Hunting/Royalty AU where rebel!SBI spend hours dismantling the king’s castle.
And another few hours trying to *find* the king.
But the kid — barely five years old, wriggling in Techno’s tight hold — just pouts that they’re ‘done with the hiding game.’
“We’re here to kill you.”
Tommy doesn’t even blink, trying to pull himself free with tiny, chubby fingers, whining, “You can kill me next time you find me.”
“That’s— that’s called hide-and-seek.”
“Well, I can’t hide if you kill me *now.*”

Elemental Coding SBI SCP AU
Philza--Air. Yes he's literally the embodiment of fire, but that would be too easy. Philza has no direction to him, no motivation beyond his kids. His entire philosophy hinges on the people around him, changing to suit them. He’s just support, the wind in the sails of his kids pushing them in the direction they want to go. Whether he’s a nice summer breeze or a hurricane, it’s still without a principled conviction to him.
The Blade--Rock. Very staunch in his convictions. He’s sturdy, dependable. He’s exactly the shape you expect him to be in. Takes a lot to change, and hones himself. Additionally, rock in the sense that The Blood God is eternal. The shift of tectonics/wars that shape the human landscape. The voices likewise reflect this, specifically metamorphic rock, the idea of many melted and amalgamated into one.
Tubbo--Earth. Part of this choice is because Tubbo and The Blade are foils. Tubbo holds staunch principles like The Blade, albeit in a vastly different direction. Tubbo is earth in the sense of soil. There is the possibility of fostering life in a way The Blade's death based morals doesn't allow. In the course of the series, Tubbo and The Blade both undergo character development in different directions. Rock is weathered down to allow soil, earth is put pressure to become stone.
Tommy--Water. Tommy is water because he’s utterly molded by the people around him. He goes with the flow, fitting into the shape of the context he’s in. Regardless of what he thinks is right he’s just adapting to the situation he’s in without any sense of agency to it. Prone to drowning in himself.
Wilbur--Fire. Yeah he has shadow powers what of it? Wilbur is fire coded because the idea of constant consumption needed to survive. Movement as well because if he stays in one place it will all be destroyed, so he’s constantly stuck in a life on the run. Never able to settle or find peace. Wilbur is trapped in the present because the past is destroyed. Also the equivalence of fire: you will be unharmed if you stay away, but if you put your hand into it you’ll be destroyed. Speaks to Wilbur's philosophy of fairness. Fire in the sense that he has to remain very controlled to be safe.

This is just me rambling about fandom trends cause I wanted to inflict it on my timeline instead of people's DMS.
Okay so I kinda stopped reading SBI for a while, except for my especial subscriptions (got burned out on tommy-centric), and then I got invited into a friend server with a bunch of new young writers and dipped my toe back into what's going on in the genre. Staring around the room like "what's happened while I was buried in a spreadsheet? Oh my."
And it has been FASCINATING.
First of all like, there's just like, a lot of Dark SBI, to the point that it seems like more than when I last checked? Which I don't have a problem with, but it's always very interesting to me because that seems very much like a reaction to fandom trends, more than canon? Like people get tired of a certain dynamic (foster aus! good dad phil! exploration of canon!) and decide they want something else. And what they want is kidnapping, which like. That's an honourable tradition in fiction, o7. Seems like a lot of kidnapping to me, but you do you.
Also, on the other side of the coin, there's also a lot of tooth-rotting-fluff, similarly focused in on like— okay like a lot of that was crimeboys, which is a canon dynamic, but once you add in the pet names and like, platonic kissing, that's not streamer dynamic either, that's a new third thing which is made up by the fandom. Neither of those boys are that open about their emotions, you made that one up. This isn't canon-compliant OR RPF, it's a secret third thing.
Like I can't stress enough that this characterization, in the trends taken as a whole, is neither drawn from canon nor from non-lore streamer, this is something else entirely. Tommy is very sad and baby and cries a lot, and Techno looms and doesn't make jokes and calls people "runt" a lot, and Wilbur is very clingy (and emotionally intelligent in the fluff and sometimes for evil reasons in the dark)— phil doesn't tend to get much characterization except sometimes murder, which honestly I cheer on whole-heartedly.
It just seems to me that this is very much fandom reaction to fandom? Like it's fic in conversation with other fic and other characterizations and filling in the gaps with other fic. Like, I wouldn't be surprised if a bunch of these writers don't follow the streamers and don't watch their ongoing content, and don't go back to the lore streams either. It's just all recursive fic. And I'm not saying that as a bad thing, just as a thing that makes me go Oooo, huh. Look at that.
Which is interesting to me as we look at not getting more DSMP content in the future, to see if we end up with a self-sustaining little fandom engine cause for me (techno-centric), I'm not getting any more lore content, but for some of this fandom (subscribed to a bunch of writers who post once a week) they're getting new content about their blorbos all the time. Their blorbos that again, I have to stress, were made up by the fandom and have minimal relationship to the streamers or the lore.
Okay and that is all stuff that makes sense to me— it's fic of fic, it's responding to fic trends, characterization has drifed from the source text and settled into a fanon canon. Now we get into the thing that makes me go ???????
Which is that everyone seems to be doing father-son relationships now? And not really Dadza, which at least I'm like, okay, sometimes phil is dad-like specifically to tommy, but Dadbur and Dadnoblade? Which makes me go?????? Tommy gets aged down to like 9-14 or something, so he's sad baby, and then techno or wilbur is a nebulous Adult, and then they have either a dark or a joyous found family moment with cuddles in.
And okay I've been hanging out over in emduo-centric and broad-dsmp-cast with dips into hermitcraft, I full on record-scratched when I hit technodad for the first time.
APPERANTLY, I hear from other people, dadbur stories just spiked through the roof after the utah ending, which made me go???? I guess the idea is that you could walk away from a brotherly relationship but not from a parental relationship? Which uh, as someone who's seen what happens in the bad dad phil tag I hate to break it to you, but, anyways, you do you.
And if there's dadbur, they have to get techno in with that. Guys there is so much technodad now. It's bedrock bros but they're not bros any more. Tommy is baby and Techno takes care of him. Serious dad technoblade.
And the best theory I have for what's happening is that this is twitter-driven, because you want that close relationship with affection, but you're realllllllly scared of anyone saying Shippping, so by making it a parental relationship you're even more platonic? It's either platonic-driven or just a need to make tommy soooooo baby and a dad will take care of him more than a brother will? But again, a dad can do that and still be platonic, where if it's just a brother that will be too much?
I can cling frantically to logic and follow a thread through to where I'm like okay, I guess that makes sense, but oh man as someone who barely even thought it made sense when people dad-coded Phil, I see Technodad and I go HEH???
Anyways, that has been my last few weeks of avoiding my deadlines by reading what the fandom babies in discord recommend. Discovering new levels of fanon characterizations and so much dad-coding. My WIPs are going well.

KEEP TALKING ABOUT THE SBI FIC THING IM REALLY INTERESTED!! I've always wanted to study that side of the fandom under a microscope but it's scary.
buddy that place is WILDDDD. ok so things you need to know abt sbi side
1. they're damn good writers
2. i don't think they know how to write fanfiction
3. in another universe they create some very well known, published authors
because essentially everything they write is so fucking detached the second it enters an au. with dnf and the general dt side of things, there are differences. sure often times it's a bit more identifiable as fanfiction but that's not a BAD thing. it literally just means people know how to write fanfiction which is what they were intending to do anyways so like hooray
with sbi, i've read SEVERAL (as in i can go into my bookmarks right now and count out at least 10) fics that have just changed and deviated so far from the original source material that it's hard to even understand what they're talking about. in that regard, 100% dnfers get caught out before sbiers, but that's only in the circumstance that they get published at all. sbiers are really creative -- TOO creative, obviously to the point of creation ocs with names and descriptions that often times only vaguely resemble phil, tommy, wilbur, and techno -- which gives them the upper hand publication wise.
that leads into dark sbi which, let it be known, i have NEVER EVER liked. i personally thought it was harsh and unenjoyable but also goddamn did they make some good stories. obviously i read them bc even though i hated the vampires and the kidnapping and shit, it was good. the upper hand of writing fanfiction is that shit is more fast paced and attention grabbing, due to the lack of exposition and shit. so sbiers likely get published first, get discovered on booktube (not booktok cause they only read romance that's packed with tropes to the point of dysfunction), and they at least semi-spread from there until someone is who can't handle any difficult topics in fiction gets upset. but that's a different kind of controversy entirely
sbiers are good authors but they're stuck in this weird limbo of "it's not fanfiction it's just inspired original content" which sort of creates a new genre entirely. they pull some good fanfiction elements into its own realm entirely and it's really frustrating when you want to read fanfiction of something but if you're looking for something fast paced and good to read that aligns with the weird fanon universe they've created, they're your subfandom.
a lot of fics also appeal to personal issues that people are able to project onto easily (i speak from experience) so, while dnf is typically shorter, more accurate, and lighthearted, sbi has dynamics that people often crave in their real life and more people that they can insert themselves into. um that sounds weird but ykwim
they also have The AU's which dnf has but it's just not to the extent that sbi has it. the trifecta:
1. superhero aus
2. royalty aus
3. foster care aus
ran that tag for a good 2 years minimum. those are the sort of Peter Parker Goes On A Field Trip To Stark Industries type of aus where you have a good baseline that people get attached to, so you can sort of rewrite the same story different enough that people feel like they're reading smth new each time. and it works!! if people were to publish an sbi fic (which would likely fall into one of those 3 categories), it'd be realllyyyyyy recognizable just bc it was such a staple in the community. ifl im missing some other big categories but those are just the aus that i remembered off the top of my head that showed up a fuckton
don't get me wrong, i ❤️ dnf fanfiction and you def could publish it if you tried hard enough, but those authors do shit right. the characterization is so niche and specific, the dynamics are so unique, and often times, there just isn't enough in one fic to build and create a story. so much of dnf fanfiction relies on the fact that you already know those two, you know who they are, how they behave, their stakes regarding each other, etc etc. with sbi, the authors end up essentially writing their own stories so much so that they have to tell the story like it's a novel rather than fanfiction. it's very interesting imo esp bc fanon tommy for example is so extremely, incomprehensibly different from c!tommy or cc!tommy, with only enough hits of similarity to keep you hooked into the story with the illusion that you're actually reading the same character, when more often then not, it's like 1/4 tommy, 1/4 fandom misinterpretation interpretation, 1/4 author projection, and 1/4 recycled oc. again, speaking from experience.
also, sbi authors are pretty cocky about their writing, and it's really noticeable when they write a fic with the intention of changing the names and couple minor details to submit to an editing company for a few rounds of revision before they publish their nyt bestseller a few years down the line. they didn't need to leave the fandom to abandon their shit. lorehead analysts have a decent grasp of their content (but i'm biased), but lorehead writers?? different monster entirely. the second dsmp stands for something like "delicious small mtown pforsuperherovillanvigilanteshenanigans" then you know they're too far gone. they're attached to THEIR characters, not the dsmp's; if it means sacrificing the original source material for real life recognition, they'd do it in a heartbeat. i don't blame them but the point still stands.
this is all over the place i'm so sorry idek if i said anything you wanted to know but
tl;dr sbi fanfiction sort of became its own medium between fanfiction and original work so they're more likely to get published, but they fall into the same dynamics in the same type of universes that would easily get them figured out. dnf writers just seem to mind their damn business more. anyway, most dnf writers that left the fandom seem to want to completely forget that they ever did That. usually they just orphan/delete and move on cause they're embarrassed.
sorry again i'm so not good at explaining my thoughts but i did NOT spend 2 1/2 years reading sbi fanfiction 24/7 for nothing. i need to put my experience to use somehow so thanks for letting me do that 😭😭😭
