Okay, now, the scene in the WOODS!!! IM YELLING. Ladies and gentleman, this is about to get STEAMY. first of all, boomer and butch were particularly getting all the action this chapter. MOSTLY BUTCH. Anyways, I found it INTRESTING buttercup was the one to first incinuate the moment and to an even bigger surprise, butch admitted he was the most terrified HES been in his life and I DIED. I found it INTRESTING that they also didn’t kiss. Not as much disappointed because .. Uh, they were preoccupied with other things. Okay, so let me NOT get into to much detail, but this is a very LARGE development for the greens. I’m SHOOKETH TO THE COREEEE BROO. And I cri.

And an even bigger development ... THE FAMILY DINNER. The boys, girls and the professor all sitting around the table eating dinner and IM A SUCKER FOR THESE CHARACTERS I WOULD DIE FOR THEM. Omg okay, fuck.

Storyboard break down!!! (pt 1 of ?)

*cracks knuckles* ok let’s see if I can make this coherent!

As a brief overview for those who don’t know or who haven’t done a reread in awhile, SBJ’s More Than Human (aka The Epic Fic, so named due to its length), is an (as of yet) unfinished Powerpuff Girl fanfic set in high school. The main ships are the Powerpuff Girls and the Rowdyruff Boys. The Rowdyruff Boys disappeared years ago, but now they’re back, forced to go on vacation to Townsville and attend high school there. Naturally, ppl are concerned, so the girls are tasked with keeping an eye on the boys and keeping them in line. Hijinks ensue.

4+ years later and I still have not read a fic that tops this one in pacing, characterization, and plot development.

One of the main themes of the fic is the contrast between the superhuman physical powers that the 6 teens have, and their all too human hearts and emotions. My amv centers a lot on this theme, particularly in regards to the most recent 2ish chapters, and thus is very SPOILERY. My explanation will also contain SPOILERS. You have been warned.

The song that goes with this amv is Mitski’s First Love/Late Spring. I had it stuck in my head a few months ago, and my brain spontaneously added visuals from MTH that went with the lyrics. So here we are. 

I broke the song up into different parts. Each chorus focuses on 1 of the 3 couples - their moments of shared vulnerability and emotional connection. I want to use the lyrics to tell parts of the story, while keeping the verses and instrumental parts centered around setting up some of the relationship dynamics, glances at the emotional effects of their interactions, and exploring some big turning points for each couple.

Here we have the intro bass line. Yes, I wrote it out phonetically like a dork for timing purposes. We start with The Dreamstm. In order, there’s Brick, Butch, and Boomer. I’m still trying to figure out if these panels should be the actual dreams the boys had, or the vortex-induced waking dream-nightmares. I’m thinking vortex-induced waking dreams, cuz of the post-title transition to the big hole they fell into that got them into the vortex to begin with, but I’m unsure.

For the first page of these 3, We have a transition from the Big Hole to the darkened iconic windows of the Powerpuff home. Then comes Brick stumbling out of Robin’s house after Blossom. He sees the light turn on and Blossom’s silhouette appear in the window. He is a sad little shit, full of regret.

Next page opens on him waking up from his dream of post-party Blossom. He touches the mattress and clenches his fist, realizing she was never there at all. Then we see Butch leaning against the wall by his bed. He closes his eyes, recalling the dream-feeling of sitting with Buttercup back-to-back, and the wall fades away.

On the next page, she squeezes his hand in hers. He remembers the incident at the party where she tied all the stems of a bagful of cherries on a dare, and opens his eyes, back in his room. Moving on to our third brother, Boomer has woken from his dream and called Bubbles. He sighs in relief at the sound of her voice, and pictures her there, trying to ground himself.

The last panel of this page goes with the lyric “wild”, and I will explain that in the next post, so itll actually make more sense

Brick’s head snapped up as she thanked them. He snatched Bubbles by the shoulder as she glided past, and Boomer, who had been beside her, instantly grabbed Brick's wrist.

“Is it—Boomer, what the hell?”

Boomer blinked, then let go of his brother. “Sorry. Reflex.”

I know sbj writes the girls and boys as they were animated (no fingers or toes, etc), but I always see them in my head as more like realistic humans. When I try to imagine them like in the cartoons, I always see them as their teen selves in the “Clipsville” episode, and I can’t take it seriously or get into it 😩

I wanted to draw this scene with the Reds after the club. There was so much tension and intense feels~ I had this headcanon(?) of sorts that after their first kiss, when Blossom reaches up, she subconsciously floats up a little to reach Brick better.
