Photos taken in this set are of: 1. Carrot seed head this evening. 2. Reflected Black-headed Gull at Lakeside this evening, I enjoyed good views of these at Lakeside today. 3. A gorgeous Small White butterfly which I enjoyed seeing on the dandelions out the front at the start of my lunch time walk, a reminder of how important these flowers are for insects. I saw Small White at Lakeside today too. 4. A Nursery Web spider on some bird's-foot trefoil at Lakeside this evening, a captivating scene I've had such a good year for seeing Nursery Web spiders this my first at Lakeside ever. 5, 6, 8 and 9. Beautiful views at Lakeside today, it was nice to see the beautiful lakes and fleabane and ragwort covered yellow meadows. 7. Apples. 10. A Magpie I got an intimate view of picking on a post as I crossed the steam railway track.
I got amazing views of mesmerising Migrant Hawkers flitting around at Lakeside today, breathtaking views of bold and beautiful dragonflies. I saw Common Darter and Blue-tailed Damselfly too. There was a surge in butterfly numbers especially in hot bits of sun with Red Admiral in the garden and on the green out the front also and bright Brimstone, colourful Comma, gorgeous Small Heath and Meadow Brown seen at Lakeside. My first Common Grass-veneer moth of the year another nice one to see, Hornet, a great close view of a fascinating Pond Skater I've enjoyed seeing them this summer and another spider were good to see at Lakeside too. There were notable bird sightings on my lunch time and evening Lakeside walks too with a lovely Grey Heron flying high over the lakes this evening and a scintillating sighting of a Kestrel flying over at lunch time. Coot, Moorhen, the Great Crested Grebes seen and heard nicely, Greylag Goose, Mallard, Feral Pigeon, Woodpigeon and eyecatching Goldfinch were great to see too. It was great to see young Goldfinch and Blue Tit in the garden this morning and see and hear Starlings well from home today. I ran into my neighbor's yard to take a picture of this tree with my PlantNet app. I now know it is a scarlet firethorn. The picture looks filtered, but the evening light was just hazy and golden. 10/10, would trespass again. 11.15.2021

Virote was up and at 'em on the morning of... Well, a Saturday with nothing to do. His eyes lazily opened in bed, and when he looked out the window and to the overcast sky, he could see the wind was gusting—the Scarlet Firethorn brushed against the glass of his bedroom windows and he rolled over underneath the covers, groping for his phone underneath one of the pillows. There was no one else he wanted to bother, other than...

1st September 2022-Lakeside and home
It was nice to awake to three Blue Tits in the garden this morning, more than I’d seen in for a while of this charming bird, with Goldfinches including young seen well in the garden this morning and through today. I took the first picture in this photoset of a Blue Tit in the garden. Another lovely view of a Kingfisher and a Great Crested Grebe were avian highlights of my lunch time walk at Lakeside.
I saw Migrant Hawker dragonfly I believe well again there too getting some great views of dragonflies parading over, and just as I was thinking I might not have seen as many Common Darters as usual here this summer I saw one when crossing the railway track a nice red male they do like wood. Small Whites and Speckled Wood made nice butterfly sightings here again with another shiny leaf beetle seen well possibly another Alder Leaf beetle. I saw a carpet beetle which the second picture in this photoset shows as well as Grey Silverfish in my en suite before bed last night.
Today’s walk at Lakeside also reminded me quite a few flowers are still doing well, with ragwort that I saw a fair bit of possibly with a fair bit emerging again, also nice and yellow fleabane, water mint, burdock, great willowherb, red bartsia, pineappleweed, black mullein that I wanted to see today shining well in the sun by the dry walls of the visitor centre, possible hawksbeard and yarrow as the fourth picture I took in this photoset shows, carrot I believe, cornflower and poppy at the flower bed out the front were key plants seen today whilst out. I also really liked seeing the bur reed in the sixth picture in this photoset beside a lake which fascinated me. The steeplebush and lavender looked nice in the front garden as I went for my lunch time walk.
In a day I was pleased with the variety of colour in the nice bits of sun and otherwise in my photos fruit dominated with nice little swathes of red in the landscape from berries on bushes. The scarlet firethorn and rose hips in the front garden which I took the third picture in this photoset showing are so shiny and ripe at the moment, a great symbol of the colours of this changing time of year. Some more orange firethorn I noticed at Lakeside last year west of lakes which I came across today was great to see too.
In a very pleasing far reaching Lakeside walk on my weekly perimeter walk around the dies of the park today I got to see so much of it and take in beautiful views. I took the fifth of the sun shining nicely through trees, seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth pictures in this photoset of views here today the tenth and final picture one I wanted to try focusing on the long grass of the eastern meadows. The sky scenes seen from home look that little more spectacular lately as the sun sets earlier it seems this may be a coincidence, there were some smashing scenes again tonight.
Wildlife Sightings Summary: Two of my favourite birds the Great Crested Grebe and Kingfisher, Moorhen, I seem to recall Greylag Geese at Lakeside and I saw one flying over in my Dad’s street last night always a quirky sight to see them in the town, Black-headed Gull, Goldfinch, Blue Tit, Collared Dove, Starling, Small White, Speckled Wood, Migrant Hawker, Common Darter, fly I believe tonight and leaf beetle.

Scarlet Firethorn
Pyracantha
11.12.20
Tumblr media
This is a thorny evergreen that is leaf all year round. It grows in most shade conditions and likes moist soil, it can also tolerate strong winds and keeps itself looking fresh and beautiful throughout the winter. The tree has small white flowers that flower in June which are dense cluster and  then turn into colourful berries. The colours of the berries can range from orange to red.
The berries are colourful and inviting and can be eaten by the wildlife as well as  humans. However, when eaten raw can taste very bitter, but can be cooked and  used to make jellies. jams sauces and marmalade.

Today’s Neighborhood Photo -Scarlet Firethorn or Pyracantha This shrub is arching over a neighbor’s fence and oozing with autumn color! Pyracanthas are rambling shrubs that can grow very tall. They are evergreen in North Texas, winter hardy to -10 and are good screening shrubs and trellis climbers (or can be left to arch over a fence as in the case of my neighbor.) Varieties produce from deep red to bright orange berries in the fall. In the spring, the shrub produces small, white flowers. As with a lot of plants, to enjoy the beauty of pyracantha, you have to endure a few thorns. https://www.instagram.com/p/CGHzjrxHRAu/?igshid=1v77ipniavsas

Scarlet Firethorn (Pyracantha coccinea). The fruits are favorite food for wild birds, but they are still remained uneaten because they contain toxin in early winter. After a few months, the fruits ripen and the toxin disappears, the birds start taking them. There are many red fruits in winter attracting birds. Each species has different edible time. It reduces the competition. (東京都庁 Tokyo Metropolitan Government) https://www.instagram.com/p/B5Wa5VvARD6/?igshid=zgttfl81tb1t
