It honestly baffles me how people are dunking on Sada and Turo for being shitty parents much more than I saw when Sun and Moon first came and Lusamine was first revealed to be the villain like huh 😭 where was that energy before??? Because I feel there’s more nuance with Sada and Turo’s characters and their motivations than there were with Lusamine’s (I’m talking about her in the games of course, not the anime. I will also leave discussion for what happens in Ultra Sun and Moon for another post, so I’m only talking about the plot of the original Sun and Moon here). I’m honestly just tired of all the bashing on the Professors and them being watered down to “typical shitty parent in Pokemon” when the game clearly states and implies the exact opposite.

Lusamine is very much shown to have abandoned her kids, openly berating them and saying she has no children right in front of her daughter’s face because they “abandoned her love” and going forth with her plan to open the wormholes and summon the ultra beasts with no consideration for anything else. She doesn’t have the headspace to care about her children anymore in her plan, in huge contrast to Sada/Turo’s plan where despite how extreme it was, was at the core still centered around their son and their family. I think chalking it down to just “well they’re still both bad parents anyway” takes away some of the complexity surrounding their characters in the first place. Also I’m only bringing Lusamine as a comparison mostly because Ghetsis and Giovanni do not have any other depth to their characters in the core games lmao, and I feel Lusamine is a great example of a parent who used to care but had lost that love after her husband’s “death” and along the way of achieving her goal, while Sada and Turo are examples of the complete opposite: parents who still held onto that love and care throughout their goal, but took it so far that they hurt the one person it was for the most out of everything. It really feels like people are portraying the professors’ flaws in the completely wrong way. The problem was never “they never loved their son at all and intentionally abandoned him” it was “they became so invested and deluded in their plan they ended up neglecting the treasure it was supposed to be for.” which is exactly what distinguishes them from all the other parent antagonists we’ve seen so far. There’s a certain tragedy present in seeing a broken family that used to be so happy together that I feel was also in Sun and Moon’s story, but was muddled due to the story focusing on other aspects.

And I’m going to address this right now because I know people are going to say something because they lack reading comprehension: I am not excusing Sada and Turo’s actions in the game and how their neglect had affected Arven. Explanations are not Excuses. You can acknowledge that they loved their son while still hurting him in the end, both ideas can coexist. I merely just want to analyze wtf even happened here for the professor to go down this path. And it’s also worth nothing that we don’t have much answers in the game itself as of right now, since well—the original is dead and we’re dealing with an AI version of them for the entirety of the game. Most of this is coming from the original’s journals in the lab, but I think the game makes a clear distinction that they still loved Arven even after everything. Despite their delusion taking over them, I think they genuinely believed what they were doing was the best for them and their family despite otherwise. The whole point at the end was to highlight how they didn’t need to create that paradise. They had that loving family already, and it was too late for them to realize that Arven only needed them and nothing else.

I don’t know if it’s just me, but I want the DLC to address Arven’s other parent and what exactly happened to them (or better yet, meet them in the story which would honestly be an interesting parallel where the professor of the opposite version is the one you get to know more than the original in game one). I know the in game Professor’s journal entry says they “walked out” but what does that even mean in hindsight? Keep in mind this is from the point of view of someone who’s continuously being deluded into their own idea of paradise, who most likely felt grief after their partner left them that they built an entire AI of themselves to help complete the project.

And yet they still say they’re going to build a paradise for “the three of them.” Does that mean the in game professor was also trying in some way to bring the other parent back? What if it was an accident? What if they were sent through the time machine and couldn’t go back, and the in game professor was so distraught their delusion out of sheer desperation made it so they processed it as “(s)he walked out on me, and now I’m all alone.” Of course this all a lot of speculation, but it just doesn’t make sense to me how Arven’s other parent would “leave” like that. Maybe I’m being an optimist about it, but it really does feel like it was unwillingly in some way, where the in game professor’s increasing delusion was the reason why they “left” so to speak.

And that’s not even addressing the 3rd legendary of the game and its role in all of this is. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was meant to parallel the snake/the devil in Genesis, as the sin of temptation since the professor and Area Zero have a lot of similarities with the Garden of Eden and this idea of “paradise” for their family. Where the 3rd legendary gave them the opportunity to create their paradise by giving them access to the paradox pokemon and terastalizing, and thus influenced them so much, it eventually led them down to a path of their own destruction consumed by the delusion that they could create a paradise for their family, but failed to recognize they ended up hurting the one person they treasured most in the end. If the other professor did indeed return in the DLC, maybe it would give the chance to separate themselves from their spouse and make things right with both the region and Arven. Having them be the antithesis to the other Professor’s motivation and making the choice to stay with Arven in the present would be a really cool way to wrap up the story ngl.

Anyways people who portray them as apathetic and uncaring to Arven in fan art and fics I wish you a very “play the fucking game again please”. Even their character design sheets say otherwise, especially with Sada like I cannot imagine the woman described as “not being able to hide her emotions well” would be a cold and uncaring mother like come on 💀 I played Violet for crying out loud and I’m still able to recognize that.

Watching the Spanish dub of Archer and I think I mentioned that Archer and Don have the same Spanish VA. So, Zara, the new character introduced in this season, is dubbed by Cristina Yuste and she's my voice actress headcanon for Carmen! So I get to hear Don and Carmen be snarky with each other.

After hearing that the Blueberry Academy Elite Four were no pushovers, I decided to actually put together a fully trained team for this DLC, rather than just winging it, like I did for the Teal Mask. I really wanted Ogerpon and Bloodmoon Ursaluna on the team. The rest I added by looking at Pikalytics, picking some of the most commonly used Pokémon in VGC and training them up using what EV/Move spreads were suggested. I'm honestly not much of a battler and my process is usually just 'hit it until it goes down', but we'll see how this team pans out for me. To be fair, they are all also at LV 100 too. I'm taking no prisoners.

the thing about the house of the seven gables is that it's incredible and it also sucks so bad. it was absolute torture to get through but i do not regret a second i spent reading it. they stuck that woman in a house for ~400 pages. there's an entire chapter about a corpse sitting in a chair. nathaniel hawthorne spends 80 pages saying something that could have been said in a paragraph. you never find out who the narrator is but he sure is a Guy. phoebe deserved better.

Marc clearly does not think he deserves good things. And whatever’s going on right now is weird but it’s absolutely good which means he needs to run, fast, before he destroys it just by being near.

He doesn’t move, though. Rooted to the floor, feeling greedy and ravenous as he watches Kate’s fingers tangle in Layla’s hair, the curls catching in Kate’s scabbed-over knuckles. Kate manages to run them into the table and Layla pulls back, huffing a laugh against Kate’s cheek.

“I thought you were supposed to have good aim?” Layla points out. Kate sets her teeth into Layla’s neck. She can’t even keep her eyes open, tilting her head back with a soft moan.

“Bed, table, flat surface. Whatever.” Kate’s serious, clearly trying to convince Layla to sit on the table. It doesn’t work; Layla simply starts shoving Kate in the direction she wants them to go, avoiding Steven’s desk and the fish tank

Marc smiles, biting back a laugh before he remembers how much he doesn’t deserve any of this.

Are you plannin’ on participating? Or just gonna stand there like a knob?

Steven should have this. Isn’t that what he’s been fighting for? So that Marc, with all of his fuckups and failures and pain can sink into nothingness, leaving Steven to have a full and happy life.

The thought makes Steven angry for some reason. Marc doesn’t get words, just a wall of fury. He loses time, then, by the door one moment and standing at the edge of the bed the next. He doesn’t fight it; is surprised when it feels like Steven is shoving Marc to the front. Ever considered you’re part of a full and happy life? 

Marc realizes he’s staring at the ceiling. 

Silly bastard, Steven continues, warmth taking the sting out of the words. You deserve good things. 

“Hi, Marc,” Kate says above him, just as Layla leans over his head, hair curtaining off the outside world.

“You with us, baby?”

Marc shifts around and discovers that Layla’s got his hands above his head and Kate is sitting on his hips. 

And he’s in the leg restraint. 

“Steven said something--” Layla begins.

“Steven should keep his damn mouth shut,” Marc snaps.

In a flash, Kate has her hand under his jaw, tipping his head back and slamming his mouth shut.

“No,” she growls.

Marc and Kate glare at one another until Layla breaks the silence.

“He said you don’t think you deserve to be happy.”

Kate’s hand loosens under his jaw. “So we thought you should lay here while we give you what you deserve.”

It’s hard to get a good look at Layla from this angle, but she looks apprehensive. Maybe. Like maybe she doesn’t see eye to eye with Kate about what he deserves.

Something unwinds in his spine, making his arms go limp in Layla’s grip. 

“Do you trust us to do that?” Layla says. “To give you what you deserve?”

His gaze jumps from Layla to Kate and back. Layla--she’s too good to him, to kind by half. But Kate--Kate knew the worst parts of him first. He doesn’t think she’d kill him but if she thought he should be dead he’d know. 

“Yeah,” he finally says, throat dry. “Yeah, I trust you.”

Layla’s face lights up, so bright he can’t stand to look at it too long, can’t look at Kate’s calculating gaze either so he squeezes his eyes shut. The air shifts as Kate leans over him and he feels--

He braces for a punch, or a slap, or a goodbye. Instead, Kate leans close, lips brushing his ear. “Good boy,” she murmurs, and everything Marc thought he knew about himself goes up in a shower of sparks.

#fave spotting #robert shaw #the adventures of the scarlet pimpernel #classic tv #itp #itc #1955 #more info on this series (and why it's an ITP production but also ITC) in the tags on my prev Pat Troughton fave spotting post #Robert wasn't quite a newcomer at this point‚ having been acting onscreen for a couple of years by now‚ but he certainly #hadn't made it yet; this might have been his big break‚ except that his character never reappears after this first episode #i suspect this acted as a pilot‚ with some of the establishing footage reappearing in a later ep and with Shaw's character being #replaced for the series by two helpers for the Pimpernel‚ played by Pat Troughton and Anthony Newlands #quite why Bob left idk; there isn't a huge amount of information out there about this near 70 yr old bit of tv obscurity #but he did alright; the following year he'd take the lead in one of ITC's next ventures The Buccaneers and shortly after that #he'd start landing film roles that would ultimately catapult him to Hollywood and to big screen immortality #added to which of course he was already making a name for himself on the english stage (and by the end of the decade he'd be adding #novelist to his list of accomplishments). he's very good here tho naturally falling into a supporting role; he's there to look #impressed by Goring's genius and feats of bravery and to occasionally lend a hand in a fight. i do think Troughton and Newlands #get more character to play with in their parts but then they get multiple appearances to help them with it #The Buccaneers is on my shelf where it has sat for some years now... one day... one day....

i've seen comments about airi not being the "true" savior because of makia reincarnated from earth which counts her as "from another world" which is kind of true, but ultimately false.

#because although makia and thor reincarnated from kazuha and tooru #their souls *aren't* originally from that world. only airi is. #makia and thor. kazuha and tooru. all of them are scarlet and black's reincarnations respectively who are from the world of maydare #the savior is said to be 'from another world' and as of now that applies to tanaka airi ONLY #we don't know about kanon that much but irc the hero was said to be from another world as well? i don't remember #anyway i really like that they didn't do a 'makia was the savior all along because she was from earth too!' but instead makia was a savior #in a way that isn't 'destined to save the world' but in a way that she manage to reach out to people's hearts and help them #as what airi said kazuha was like an angel that saved her #it was also accordung to her that makia is like the true main character in which she is. but savior =/= protagonist. #airi is still pretty much the savior in title and she's now acting on her part. she still have powers that of a savior. #she's still very much the vessel needed to eliminate harm. there's gonna be a great war not just between #hermedes vs ruschia & frezier and the rest of maydare's countries #but also between the 10 great magicians from history that came back once again..... i think. airi's role is gonna be essential for both. #airi plays an important part and not just her! gt9 as well! frey as a prince of ruschia and makia as a guardian and as the scarlet witch.. #lapis as a (basically) military personnel and a twilight mage for frezier empire #and lastly nero as the hermedes empire's last royalty and as queen shatoma frezier's ally #all of them play an important role #gilbert also! not just as the prince that's basically handling every work in the castle because ulysses is lune ruschia's professor and #the white sage's reincarnation and frey who was stripped from every right he have as a prince— ahem! gilbert not just as a prince but also #as a guardian. oh and sir lionel the vice captain of the royal knights and a guardian ig there's nothing really remarkable about him aside #from those. and yeah thor since he's not just a guardian but also one of the big three magicians #genuinely why are the guardians so boring the only one that isnxt is makia granted cuz she's the mc but also airi those two are the only #enjoyable ones. gilbert is slowly growing on me tbh. who knows maybe sir lionel's gonna have an arc where i'd like him #thor i swear i don't hate you and i even liked you but you're never gonna outrank gt9 airi and even beatrice #sylhea talks maydare
