i'm going to be real with you guys for a moment. i don't think i'll continue following bsd much after this point

#i take back what i said about being excited for what's to come. i mean i am. in a very general impersonal way. #but the way the series is going. if the ending of the anime is going to be followed by the manga in a similar direction #is just very different from the silly armed detective agency vs port mafia authors with superpowers slightly high-stakes slice of life #that i originally signed up for. i've felt this way the whole decay of angels arc and just stuck around to see what happens #and because i care about the characters. bsd was always a character-focused manga for me #but the direction it seems to be taking is this massive epic entire-world-at-stake military scifi drama #where super epic power-up style ability weapons (and one-off overpowered nameless ability users are introduced and killed off in the same #scene. like the time manipulation catgirl) take the forefront at the expense of actual character focus and character development #like why are most of the (original) cast completely unaccounted for in what was meant to be a satisfying ending. #did asagiri forget that atsushi is the main character. why did tachihara's and sigma's arcs get cut short like that. #and frankly i feel like bsd started to take this direction from storm bringer onwards. the focus and scope of it is very different #to for example the untold origins or dazai's entrance exam or even 55 minutes. but if i were to theorise i would say that the scope of #the current direction of bsd must have started germinating during the 55 minutes light novel. if you can see what i mean #anyway more importantly i find that the tone is now entirely different from early bsd. it's just not the series that i fell in love with #so i think it's best that i stop here before letting it turn sour like jujutsu kaisen is to me now. #i have the manga (and anime) that i can reread (rewatch) up to the perfect crime arc whenever i want #i can reread the sskk fight of volume 20 whenever i want. i can revisit sigma and nikolai's chapters. there's wan. there's the light novels #and there's the wonderful fanfics and fanart and so many metas to read. that's what brings me joy more than the series itself nowadays. #that's all. end of era i guess. to an extent

My cousin, a published writer, a well-known poet in my country and a literature professor, for whom I've always been no.1 support ever since her first attempts at writing in high school, told me that I must stop writing as a hobby because that's her thing and since I'm writing fantasy mostly my writing could never have any important artistic value anyways.

#what happened was that i was feeling really down these past few days #like mental health dead in mariana trench #and i went to visit her because she lives like 10 minutes away and has a cat i can play with #but yesterday morning a friend of mine made a fanart (i guess i can call it that) of a fanfic i am writing for the five of them #she sent it to me and said she's also working on an actual painting on a camvas of her fave scene from my original story #and i was so surprised and exicted #that's actually a too mild description #and when i was visitting my cousin i showed her the pic of the drawing on my phone and explained it to her and she just said ....ehh.. #and started texting someone #i was sitting there feeling stupid and thinking wow you could have at least praised my friend's art sytle or something #and when i was getting ready to leave she asked me if i was aware my writing has no artistic merit and fantasy is trivial literature #so i should just stop wasting time on that and focus on developing my art style more for her future poetry collections #i do the art for her book covers #and added how we already have an established writer in the family so i should focus on my role - becoming a good pharmacist #and she knows how much i hate that i'm studying pharmacy like it's the no.1 cause of me hating the direction in which my life is going #finished it off by saying she feels like what she's doing in going to be really great and important on a large scale one day #and how she wants me to continue being her shadow that follows and supports her #i left went home and started at a wall for hours #i just feel so dumb for getting excited over a silly drawing of something not more than 5 people will ever read #i genuinely hate the idea of people reading anything i write so most likely writing will just remain a hobby for me #and now i feel like the most stupid person on earth and am this close to deleting all my word documents from both my laptops

One (Viktor) who lingers a little on the past but is happy and content as to where he is in the present #the other (Atlas) still mourning his dead mother and having left his abusive home. #A trans girl (Inky) who grew up in a perfectly normal household but became agoraphobic; before being ripped from her home and forced into #outside world #and Nim. someone who grew up in a trash zone with nothing to eat but garbage and is living her best life in the present. #they're literally blorbos from my brain ESPECIALLY the world they're apart of too because GOD i love it so much #What Nim's holding is called a Liabell; most if not all mosnter hunters have them for mobility. #the liabells dont work without a lullader (small-neon glowing stone looking spiders basically) inside. as it uses their incredibly tough we #to pull #but Nim's a cloven (deerways) so she's already got pretty good agility and uses their's for moreso rangling monsters. #i have SUCH a cool scene that I wanna draw (but doesn't fit my style- so i gotta commission it for sure) #where they're standing atop of an elk-like monster #and he's like- spun webs of the liabell around it's horns and its incredibly firey and its night and #GAHH #Nim's liabell isn't even like- purple- his lullader is- the liabell is clear glass with weathering copper when the lullader isnt in it. #I'm so normal about this world and all the races I've made for it. Because simply being a different race means they might use their #tools differently or not need specific ones #for example: I've got one character in my mind that's a possae (something inhabiting another thing basically) and they're a skeleton #with this massive glowing pulsating mass in it's ribcage and its all cowboy motif. (I'm thinking angel posessing it and handing out #their own retrobution in the West Zone) #and basically they use a Liabell similar to Nim but it's a lasso and they have several of them to help tie up more people.

Also just imagine how awesome it would have been if, when Light opens the door of the warehouse and wants to escape from the warehouse, Mello and Matt are standing there, outside of the warehouse and get shown/revealed the moment Light opens the door, aiming their guns at him, Mello wearing his leather coat with feathers as well as his sunglasses and taking a bite of his chocolate bar while Matt is calmly smoking a cigarette while also aiming at Light with his gun and then you hear Near in the background telling Light that it's over.

thinking about my ghibli wizard wilbur.. i will ramble in the tags again;;

#wilbur is rumored to be quite dangerous since most non-magic people don't have a good understanding of wizards #and dream doesn't know any better so he is still apprehensive about wilbur despite seeking him out #but when he spends time with him and apprentice tommy in their 'castle' dream quickly realizes how gentle and kind wilbur is #he can be a bit of a mess (emotionally and also literally) but wilbur adores dream as soon as he meets him #and wants to show him all the wonderful things about his world of magic #tommy recognizes how lively and excited wilbur is when dream is around #so he tries to get dream to stay as long as possible but dream doesn't need much convincing #being whisked away from his mundane life by a charming wizard was the best thing that's ever happened to him #dream is having such a wonderful time he nearly forgets about his curse #but what he doesn't realize is the curse is being slowly lifted after every adventure with wilbur #he is learning to love and be loved unconditionally #and the strength and self confidence it gives him weakens the curse until eventually it disappears #i have also been thinking about their outfits.. i think wilbur would have one similar to howl at the beginning of the movie #because i adore that style #and dream would wear something like a sweater tucked into a long skirt with boots #because i think that would be very cute in this au #lots of scenes where they stand on beautiful flower hills...must have long skirt to flow in the breeze yesyes #ghibli au rambles

I was originally gotta make her a biblical accurate angelic creature like Kyle and Lady but I leaned more towards this cause I feel like she doesn’t want to draw attention to her self and blends into the background, wanting to be seen as more welcoming cause let’s face it no one wants to see an creature with multiple eyes watching your deathbed. (Though she  has a form like that cause her life was cutted off and brutally dies-)

Plus imagine doing a night train and spotting this cloaked rotting corpse with gold dust eyes staring right at you from the forest- there’s a slight 50% percent change you might be next if your time is up-but it’s a good things she is actually very polite and sweet once you get to know her underneath her cold exterior even if a majority dislike her (especially towards children and animals) if you’re not Alfred or Godred….

A friend told me that my work feels almost minimalist as in "not busy or complicated" but "with the exact right amount of fancy words and humor or snark so it feels professional" which was really interesting to me.

So if anyone's wondering, my work, as it stands in my head, is supposed to feel like this btw:

My works are supposed to be imagined like sitcom episodes with little watercolor backgrounds and cartoonishly illustrated characters. Depending on the chapter the art can be more or less realistic but just so everyone knows, this is what I see in my head when I write like 80% of the time.

So um anyway, I'm curious what art style other people write in. Do you imagine the real world or something more removed?

Haha and as much as I treasure your talented compliment in all honesty to this day I don't actually understand what each layer option in Photoshop does and just make things up along the way which is the best advice I can give! Coloring, cropping, font selection, really everything is extremely specific to your own personal tastes and even my own is a constant work in progress 😊

Overall curves is a solid base for any edit but because my gifs are usually extremely bright and saturated (probably overly so if we're being honest 😂) the adjustments that make the biggest difference there are almost always levels to add strong brightness and contrast (don't like the actual brightness/contrast option for this, who knows why), color balance to achieve the most natural looking tones, and selective color to make shades pop so those are great places to start!

Best of luck if you're getting ready to try gifmaking out and please feel free to ask or message about anything specific you might have questions about in the future 💕
