Schadenfreude is such a fucked up abnormality in terms of appearance. There are FAR worse, yes, but all those disgusting, organ-filled, corpse-laden abnormalities are sanitized into less disgusting little guys by the cognition filter (and the limitations of the art style) and then Schadenfreude's out here being the most special boy and doing the polar opposite as the most photo-realistic thing you'll see in this whole series

i think one of my favorite things about phillip wittebane is that he would never, ever have succeeded. like, sure. he could have killed all the “witches”.

but in everything he wanted? no way. because he didn’t just want to genocide the people of the boiling isles. he wanted the complete submission of all of those that he viewed as part of his in-group to his views. he wanted praise! he wanted adulation. and most of all he wanted it from the humans who wouldn’t give it to him

his big brother who he idolized was certainly the biggest one. but could he have a caleb that would agree with him?

ha. phillip personally tailored every single aspect of hunter’s existence to aid in his manipulation of the “better” version of his brother and hunter still stood against him. every single time phillip tried to prove himself right, the grimwalkers proved him wrong. again.

luz? tough luck. he might have kicked her out of his in-group, but he’s still hurt that she doesn’t agree with him. because she’s a human- from the town that he founded. why isn’t she understanding? he’s right, why can’t she see that?

and then he would try to go back to a human realm as a triumphant hero... when the heroism that he did was. you know. genocide. and even if they don’t look at him and laugh because. hoo boy you’re gonna sound like a crazy person, haha.

if he can get them to believe him, lots of people will look at him and see him for the evil that he is. because going to someone else’s world and then destroying it? when they weren’t doing anything to anyone? just living their lives?

that would not be seen as acceptable to most of the world’s population right now. yeah. some people will. but not everyone. and not most of the people in gravesfield, the town that he founded that’s approval would be something he’s desperately seeking.
