With the morning behind her, Cordelia could finally focus on what lied ahead after school: her presidential debate.

She felt prepared, but she was still nervous about how she would be up against Anya VanAmstel-Joy. She wanted to win just as bad as her, and Anya could be intense.

Luckily with class on her heels she could dissipate out some of her nerves by focusing on taking notes.

She went to her first period class and sat next to Jordie just before the bell, but Angela Pleasant strolled in just after it.

"Ms. Pleasant, it's only the second day of school. Please don't make your lateness a habit." Mr. Brewer scolded her.

"Please," Angela scoffed. "30 seconds after the bell rings is nothing. Don't Hassel me, Mr. Brewer. My mother is on the PTA. She could have your job."

"Angela is so bad," Jordie smirked. "You know she's only doing it because she didn't make cheer squad cuts, so she's hoping I'll see her being a badass and put in a good word. How desperate."

"Desperate or not, if she doesn't stop, she'll get in trouble."

"Pfft, she'll be fine!"

"Besides, we've got more interesting things to talk about." Jordie shot her a side eye.

"You mean my debate today? I know, I'm so nervous."

"No, not that! I mean," She lowered her voice, "How'd it go with Jai yesterday? You guys talked?"

"Oh. Umm, sort of, but not really."

"What is that supposed to mean?"

"It means, we started talking, but Matthew interrupted us. And then after that I ran my debate club table and we never ran into each other again."

Jordie let out a sigh. "You two are infuriating."

"Listen, Jai's taking that pass the school gave everyone in after school activities to use to watch the debate today. You should hang back after and talk to him."

"Why?"

"Because. Trust me."

"OK." Cordie said with a shrug. "Will you be there?"

"Of course not. Izzy and I are brand new recruits. We've gotta build up loyalty and whatever."

"But you just said the school—"

"I know, but this is important to me, Cord. I want to be head cheerleader one day. I can't mess that up."

"Fine." Cordie sounded a bit dejected..

Jordie, noticing her BFF shrinking a bit under the pressure, continued on, "You'll do great, babes. I'll be cheering for you in spirit. A special cheer just for you. So don't sulk."

"I'm not and I won't. Good luck at cheer practice. I'll be cheering for you too." Cordie smiled.

She'd miss Jordie being in the audience of her debate, but she knew they were at a crossroads where they'd both be into different things and thus wouldn't always be able to be there for each other. She knew she'd have to learn to be strong without her.

She was determined to be.

Fallout OC asks, dealer's choice of character: 1, 2, 9 and 31?

IM SO SORRY THIS TOOK SO LONG TO ANSWER....I got carried away and wanted to talk about all of my fallout OCs.... All of my characters include... Schaefer (Schae) Hartmann and her wife, Toni. Their descendants are my two characters Loretta (Rhett) Locklear and River Hartmann (they're cousins!) Jack and his granddaughter, Mariposa. The other non related characters are Claire, Sherry, and Danny! Answers, below the cut! It's a doozy. :)

1. All of my characters are human! The exception is Danny, a ghoul who's lived all over the wastes since the Great War. 2. Schae (pronounced Shay) is my 76er. She was born inside Vault 76. Rhett is my Courier 6, Jack is my Vault Dweller, his granddaughter Mariposa is my Chosen one, Claire is my Warrior (Fallout Tactics protag) and Sherry is my Lone Wanderer! Yes, I don't have a Sole Survivor! To me, FO4 is a little harder to come up with a character for as they feel a little more boxed in by an identity (ie, parent who is a soldier/lawyer depending if you pick nate or nora.) 9. Schae & Toni: Schae grew up in Vault 76, and on reclamation day set off into the Appalachian wastes. Toni grew up in WV but originally her family came from Nevada, where they decided to move back out to years later. They say Schae had some strange mutations from living in the wastes, and could "jump as high as a jackalope." Rumor has it, she lives ghoulified out in the world, still hunting for Cryptids. Rhett & River: Cousins who grew up on the same Brahmin far, they didn't get along until their adulthood. River left home young to pursue a music and radio host career, as well as to seek a medical transition, while eventually Rhett became a Courier for the Mojave express. River now travels all over the wastes collecting music holotapes and stories. Jack: My Vault 13 Dweller, being forced out into the wastes at 18 to find a new water chip for his Vault. His backstory is pretty straight forward from there, following the events of the game. At some point in his 60s, he suddenly left Arroyo, to never be seen again. Mariposa: A name chosen by her grandfather, naturally Mariposa was destined to become the Chosen One of her tribe. She's bright and spunky, but quick on her feet and witty. With her Highwayman full of companions, she set off to save her tribe. Sherry: Sherry was originally just a bit of a self insert character from my first Fallout 3 play through, but she's evolved since then. (IE, when I started new games, I typically just made the character myself) but she's pretty different now, and is named after the 4 Seasons song, Sherry. Claire: Claire is currently the least fleshed out, because I'm still working through my Tactics playthrough! But she's a BOS Scribe. :) Danny: Fun fact! Danny was my first and oldest fallout OC. She originally started as a Fallout 3 OC, but she's evolved since. She was living in DC when the Great War happened and has since spent her days as a wanderer. 31. River wants to leave a lasting imprint on people through his music and his radio Broadcast, Little Brahmin Blues. Both Mariposa and Sherry want to change and improve the wastes for the better, while Jack has a disdain for his legacy seeing as how it cost him his place in his Vault.

Sweet Victory! Aaron Vale & Prescott Power to the Top in the $100,000 Mars Equestrian Grand Prix CSI 3*

Ocala, Florida, USA – March 02, 2024 – The WEC Grand Arena once again became the epicenter of thrilling international competition as spectators from near and far gathered at World Equestrian Center – Ocala to witness the highly anticipated $100,000 MARS Equestrian Grand Prix CSI 3*. An elite lineup of the world’s best Jumping athletes competed for the top prize, but it was Aaron Vale (USA) who clinched the well-deserved victory aboard Prescott (Lordanos x Bb Carvallo), owned by Thinkslikeahorse.

Catsy Cruz (MEX), an FEI Level III course designer, crafted the challenging tracks that allowed 11 duos to qualify for the jump-off. 

Samantha Schaefer (USA) & James Bond HX

Anna Dryden (USA) and Gipsy Love set the initial pace in the jump-off, but Samantha Schaefer (USA) and Bonne Chane LLC’s James Bond HX (Douglas x Cash) blazed through, clocking in at 41.33 seconds to take the lead.

Daniel Coyle (IRL) came close to taking the win with a speedy performance aboard Ariel Grange’s Legacy, but had a heartbreaking rail, leaving the door open for Aaron Vale, determined to seize the win.

At the sound of the tone, Vale and Prescott were off, “I really shaped out to fence one, and got the six done easily in the turn. We caught that nice enough I was able to get eight down to the next oxer, and I think everybody else did nine. Then he actually grabbed a shoe landing, and I wasn’t sure what was happening, but for three or four strides he was scrambling. By the time everything cleared, the next oxer was going to be really long, but I had to win the class, so I took it. Then I was able to be patient to the combination, and after we landed that, I could just let his speed do the rest.” 

Molly Ashe Cawley (USA) & Loukas de La Noue

Molly Ashe Cawley (USA) and Oakridge Farm’s 13-year-old Belgian Warmblood gelding Loukas de La Noue (Malito de Reve x Mr Blue) clinched second place with a time of 39.96 seconds. Ashe Cawley praised the crowd at World Equestrian Center – Ocala, “Whenever I come here, I am always blown away by the crowd. They are always into it, and they really have become educated about the sport,” she shared. “I can’t thank MARS Equestrian and the Roberts family enough for what they’ve done for our sport. They’ve really made an impact with this incredible facility, and I think there is nothing but amazing things to come from it.”

Third Thursday events and exhibitions for January 19

The next Third Thursday — the monthly evening of art in Athens, Georgia — is scheduled for Thursday, January 19, from 6 to 9 p.m. All exhibitions are free and open to the public. This schedule and each venue’s location and hours of operation are available at 3thurs.org.

Georgia Museum of Art, University of Georgia

Yoga in the Galleries, 6 p.m. — Join us for a free yoga class surrounded by works of art in the galleries. Led by instructors from Five Points Yoga, this program is free and open to both beginner and experienced yogis. Sanitized mats are provided. “Kristin Leachman: Longleaf Lines” — Paintings by artist Kristin Leachman of an old-growth longleaf pine forest in southwest Georgia as part of her “Fifty Forests” project.

“Decade of Tradition: Highlights from the Larry D. and Brenda A. Thompson Collection” — Selections from Larry and Brenda Thompson’s gift of works by African American artists.

“Power and Piety in 17th-Century Spanish Art” — Works by premiere Spanish baroque painters such as Francisco de Zurbarán, Bartolomé Murillo, Pedro Orrente and others, on loan from Bob Jones University Museum & Gallery.

“A Pattern of Moments” — Featuring art by Kate Burke, Rebecca Kreisler and Sylvia Schaefer. The three artists share a feminized aesthetic sensibility and color palette, reflected in their chosen material: thread, folded paper and quilted fabric

“The Same, Yet Separate” — J Taran Diamond is a metalsmith and interdisciplinary craft artist. Diamond creates intricate ornate objects inspired by historic artifacts that investigate anti-Blackness within the material culture of the American South. 

“Bess Carter: Arts Center Choice Award Exhibition” — Bess Carter, who teaches art at Oconee County High School, will share art inspired by her family and “everyday beautifully imperfect life.”

The Athenaeum

“Kara Walker: Back of Hand” — The internationally renowned artist’s first solo exhibition in Georgia displays a series of new works on paper that examine themes such as complicity, racism, misremembered histories and the violence that undergirds the legacy of the South. Walker moved to Stone Mountain from Stockton, California, when she was 13 and attended college at the Atlanta College of Art and Design.

2nd Annual “Clean Your Closet” exhibition pop-up — Featuring multiple local artists selling works priced below $200. Some of the artists participating include Jamie Calkin, Melody Croft, See Dan Paint, Alexis Spina, Sarah Flinn, Camille Hayes, James Benyshek and Gary Autry. Art can go home with its new owners right from the exhibition.

The Classic Center

Classic Gallery I: “Spotlight: Paintings by Amy Watts” — Cowgirls, farmers, miners, Indigenous peoples and angels comingle on big, bold, colorful canvases that bring to mind stained-glass windows and WPA murals.

Classic Gallery II: “Light Bright” — This exhibition is inspired by the childhood toy. Remember piercing through with little, colorful, plastic pegs to create glowing compositions. Artists Caitlin Gal, Allison McPheeters and Alivia Patton all utilize the simple circle to create inspiring works. Gal’s paintings joyfully point to plant life and biology using a bright color palette and Matisse-inspired shapes. McPheeters uses drawing as a means to relax, and her intricate repeated mark reads as a sort of meditation. Patton shows the transformation of form in her works that resemble a target or a planet or an eyeball.

Third Thursday was established in 2012 to encourage attendance at Athens’ established art venues through coordination and co-promotion by the organizing entities.

The lull between move in time and the Welcome Roundup expired quickly, and before anyone knew it, everyone was gathered around the stage eager to be introduced to the counselors and the itinerary for their week at camp.

"Good morning and sul, sul, Camp Longhorn campers! I'm Head Counselor Hecking, and I'm so excited that we're all going to be spending the week together!" Head Counselor Hecking gave them the warmest and most enthusiastic welcome.

"The theme for your week is adventure and discovery. We are going to realize that theme with one structured event a day. We're talking motor advancement through swim time and treehouse building, creative development in the art center, and athletic gains hiking and tree climbing."

"Outside of structured events, you'll have free time to explore activities individually and make friends with your fellow campers. And don't neglect that part, campers! You may only be here a week, but the friendships you make here will last you a lifetime."

"Now here to assist me in guiding you all through this amazing week are my junior counselors standing next to me. Each one of them will be in charge of your guided events and will be on standby if you need help during your free time. Give Libbie, Daniel, M, and Evie a hearty sul sul!"

All of the campers gave the counselors their heartiest sul suls, but one hello in particular immediately caught Evie's eye.

It was Cordelia, waving to what would seem only one counselor in particular, and Evie could tell exactly where her gaze was fixated.

After she noticed Cordelia's infatuated gaze, she couldn't ignore it for the rest of the roundup.

For the rest of Head Counselor Hecking's speech, she witnessed Cordelia sighing over and over with her lovesick stricken stare focused only on one person.

And the most frustrating part was that Mimi seemed completely oblivious to it.

Again.

She'd thought Mimi had talked to her about it, but clearly something got lost in translation. Evie internally sighed. She'd have to talk to them again about it. This problem could not go on.

Asteroid that killed off the dinosaurs still shaping life beneath impact crater Curtin University researchers studying rock-dwelling microorganisms deep beneath the site of the asteroid strike that wiped out the dinosaurs have discovered the ancient impact continues to influence the type of microbial life found there today. The researchers used gene sequencing, cell counts, and incubation experiments to study the microorganism communities and found the geological deformation caused by the impact 66 million years ago is still shaping life beneath the site at Chicxulub, México. Joint lead Australian author Curtin PhD student Bettina Schaefer, from the WA-Organic and Isotope Geochemistry Centre (WA-OIGC) in Curtin’s School of Earth and Planetary Sciences, said while asteroid impacts caused severe disruption to surface-dwelling organisms and ecosystems, the resulting crater could be a perfect nurturing place for new life. “The heat and pressure of the impact created a sterilised area that caused a localised extinction of the residing microbes,” Ms Schaefer said. “However, roughly one million years after the impact, the crater had cooled down to temperatures low enough for microbial life to return, and to evolve in isolation from life at the Earth’s surface over the last 65 million years.” Geomicrobiologist Associate Professor Marco Coolen, also from WA-OIGC and who played a lead role in the project, said the study found the bacteria present in the nutrient-poor, and still relatively hot (about 70C) impact-fractured granitic rocks in the lower parts of the crater differed significantly from the bacteria in the layer of rubble that filled the crater in the immediate aftermath of the impact and again from the microbes present in marine sediments deposited in the crater millions of years later. “The findings gave insight into microbial life in extreme environments and how life recovers from extreme events such as asteroid strikes,” Associate Professor Coolen said. “As the deep microbial biosphere plays an important role in the global carbon cycle, it is of interest to investigate how the microbial communities were able to recover from this catastrophic geological event. “With growing concern about a possible human-generated ecological disaster or asteroid impact, research into how life on Earth has responded to major environmental, ecological, and evolutionary change such as mass extinctions of the geological past is crucial to a greater understanding of the resilience of life on Earth, which is a broader research direction being led by co-author John Curtin Distinguished Professor Kliti Grice and founding director of WA-OIGC.” The research paper’s joint lead authors were Bettina Schaefer and Professor Charles Cockell (UK Centre for Astrobiology, School of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Edinburgh). The research was funded by the Australian Research Council (ARC) and Australian and New Zealand IODP Legacy; and supported by The Institute for Geoscience Research (TIGeR) and WA-OIGC at Curtin University.

An inaccurate account of the relationship between Marilyn Monroe and Ella Fitzgerald has been continually publicized. The story that Marilyn helped her get a spot at the Mocambo nightclub, because the owner refused to allow her to perform due to her race, is incorrect. While it is better than some of the other inaccuracies out there, I have a responsibility to living up to my “sharing her life with love and accuracy” to shed some light on the true story of two incredibly talented, beautiful, and kind women who set forth so much for what we have today: 

The two met at the Tiffany Club in 1954 where Ella talked of the possibility of an upcoming spot at the club. A letter sent by Inez Melson, Marilyn’s business manager, says she offered to throw Ella a party to celebrate. This suggests that the owner, Charlie Morrison, had already begun to consider her. Other black performers had performed at the night club before her: Phil Moore, Herb Jeffries, Eartha Kitt, and Joyce Bryant – 1952 & 1953. Biographers suggest it was likely because she wasn’t glamorous enough. Marilyn could have called Mr. Morrison, as Ella said, with excitement which could have secured the spot, but even that is speculation. Ella’s debut was March 15th, 1955 but Marilyn had not been in L.A since January 1955, when she flew back to re-shoot the subway grate scene, she didn’t return until February 1956. 

Marilyn would never claim any sort of responsibility for her spot at the night club as she was a huge fan of hers, and thought she was incredibly talented. She was introduced to Ella in 1952 when vocal coach Hal Schaefer suggested she purchase the album “Ella Fitzgerald sings George Gershwin” to practice. “I told her to listen to this album because there has never been a singer more in tune than Ella,” Schaefer said, “[Marilyn] struggled to sing in tune. She was good at everything else.”

This isn’t to say Marilyn was very passionate about civil rights, she was. Ella was not wrong when she said, “She was a little ahead of her time.” 

Marilyn herself said, “What I really want to say: That what the world really needs is a feeling of kinship. Everybody; stars, laborers, Negroes, Jews, Arabs…we are all brothers.”

Kovax Legacy

I told ya’ll i was gonna post some updates of my sims so here’s the first one! (long post so be ready)

Triplets. Witches. Gingers. Those are the Kovax triplets, Allie, Ellie and Ollie who came to Moonlight Falls to make it the most supernatural friendly town there is. I’ll be introducing you to them, their partners and their house. Let’s go!

Allie is very charming. Her “mission” here was to spread the word that new witches are here to help! She was in the Political career for a while but she was caught stealing money from the campaign and immediatly fired. However, the criminals heard of this and offered her a spot in their mix to give her the revenge she wants. She accepted it gladly.

Lifetime Wish: Reach Max Influence With All Social Groups

Life State: Witch

Giovanni Hoyt. Gio for short. He’s the player type you know? Your typical Don Lothario. He’s had plenty of girlfriend in the past but none quite like Allie. He loves her careless attitude, fiery red hair and banging body. Maybe their relatioship will last, maybe it won’t. But what we know for sure is that Gio is enjoying the hell out of this ride.

Ellie is by far the most “magical” of the triplets. With and eye for the mystic, she wants to know what makes Moonlight Falls such a supernatural hangout, one fortune reading at a time. Interestingly enough, the love of her life is the exact opposite, not a single magical bone his body.

William Schaefer. He came to Moonlight Falls looking to spice up his life. New foods, new art styles and... new lovers. He caught Ellie’s eye while she was reading his fortune and she must’ve liked what she saw. Being a human doesn’t bring much to the table but this couple is willing to take the risck. Let’s hope William doesn’t persuade Ellie to do something drastic.

Traits: Couch Potato, Neat, Avant Garde, Natural Cook, Handy

Lifetime Wish: Street Credible

Life State: Human

Ollie is incredibly smart.. and that makes him a little forgetfull. Yes, he doesn’t clean up after himself and yes, he sometimes forgets why he’s in a particular room but he has a big heart and is he tries to impress his wife and kids whenever he can. Although his position in the Mage Guild is starting to take a toll on him...

Traits: Absent-Minded, Slob, Insane, Brooding, Genius

Lifetime Wish: Chess Legend

Life State: Witch

Karyn Ames came to Moonlight Falls to get in touch with her “magical” side. She finally made it here after playing her guitar for tips and mooching a simoleon or two from her “fans”. She met Ollie after he challenged her for a chess match. Ollie was embarrassingly defeated (but maybe he let her win). He made sure he’d get his win someday and now with their twin daughters being just born, boy did he win big.

Traits: Flirty, Brave, Virtuoso, Clumsy, Mooch

Lifetime Wish: One Sim Band

Life State: Witch

I didn’t take pictures for their daughters because they’re only babies righ now and all babies look the same but when they age up i 100% will! But anyway here are their little bios

Mary-Lou was the first twin to be born so naturally she wants to be first at everything. This attitude will for sure help her in some way or another.

Traits: Mooch, Natural Born Performer

Life State: Witch

Heaven is the more “controlled” of the twins. Famly is above all else for her and she wishes hers will be as big and beautiful as her father’s.
