Goodbye Post
Hello, beloved friends! We are sad to announce that we will be retiring this blog. We have so loved providing you with recs over the past two years. In that time, we've recced 1,335 fics (913 unique!) and 251 authors across 45 round-ups and 59 asks.

On Solid Ground by TrueIllusion
This is a wonderful series currently at 166,043 words. Starting with Patrick getting into an accident and the aftermath of that, and then the challenges David goes through when he's diagnosed with MS. It's angsty and hurty and a lot of comfort, and beautifully written.

The Roses never lose their fortune, and David never moves to Schitt's Creek. He's facing down the prospect of spending New Year's Eve alone, when fate traps him in an elevator with a certain Canadian tourist.

Schitt’s Creek
Red, White & Royal Blue Jays by @grapehyasynth - is this cheating? Maybe, but I read this this RWRB AU before I actually read the book and it was instrumental to me deciding to read Red, White & Royal Blue so it holds a special place in my heart. For those of you who love the book, Grape does a great job of taking our beloved Schitt’s Creek characters and making the themes of the book work with them, without just replicating the book itself.
Red, White & Royal Blue
Reclamation by @indomitable-love - in which Alex & Henry (and the rest of the Super Six) return to the lake house for the first time since the events of the book. I don’t know what to say about why this is so good, I mean, it’s an indomitablelove-verse canon fic, of course it’s amazing. It has everything, relationship feels, Super Six found family feels, some hot smut and so much love.

Fun fact: there aren’t many fics that I’ve read in this fandom that have titles starting with ‘R’
The Ring In by @welcometololaland - Looking back, I’m really not quite sure how Lola, ifyoustay and I managed to get this posted on such a tight schedule - lengthy chapters being posted weekly, delivered to my inbox on Friday night/Saturday for a beta read to be posted on Sunday night (our time). The result is a fic that is as unhinged and chaotic as we are, but it’s a whole lot of fun!

David glanced at his new business partner as he looked over the paperwork.
“See David? I told you I’d get the money,” Patrick teased. His tone seemed almost flirty? David shook the thought from his head as he signed the agreement.
Patrick walked around the store. A wave of doubt hit David. Where he once saw beautiful hardwood floors, now he only dirt and scuff marks. The wall color seemed all wrong.
He regrets this already, David’s internal voice supplied.
“I can’t wait to get started,” Patrick said. David’s shoulders relaxed.
“I’ll show you the products.” David smiled at Patrick.

I had only been reading Schitt's Creek fic for a couple months at that point, and I read it as a wip and also devoured everything else the author had written.
It's a sweet and suuuuper steamy vacation meet-cute and-then-some fic in which David and Patrick are both famous.... but don't recognize each other. Go get yourself some paddle boarding Patrick and thank me later 😘

MURDER in Schitt's Creek by @rosedavid is a hilarious Only Murders in the Building/Dead Guy in Room Four AU. I always love a good Ray fic, and this does not disappoint! The characterization is spot on and it's just absolutely delightful.

Live By Love Though The Stars Walk Backwards by @chelle-68
Stevie returns from a work trip to discover an exhausted Patrick who has trouble sleeping without David, who has been in LA visiting his family.
Stevie's offer to spend the night to keep Patrick company, hoping it will help him sleep, turns into a night of heartfelt conversation about love, friendship, fate, and taking chances.
This will make you smile and cry. It's a beautiful exploration of relationships and character, seeing David and Patrick from an outsiders point of view, and the bond between Stevie and Patrick. Stevie's voice is perfectly captured in this too.

SUMMARY: Alexis hums her appreciation, letting her eyes fall closed while Twyla repeats the circuitous route, and breathing in the blend of lavender and lemon oil her wife insisted upon for “calm and good luck”. The temporary serenity only lasts for three or four passes until a light knock at the door interrupts. She doesn’t try to hide her instant pout when the gentle pressure disappears and she’s forced to open her eyes again.
Dr. Rist breezes inside, far too perky in Alexis’s opinion. Perhaps it’s a good sign. Despite her nerves, Alexis plasters her PR smile on, and clasps Twyla’s hand – the only tell she’ll allow to indicate she’s worried while they wait to find out what kind of life changing the appointment will be.
“Well,” Dr. Rist says. “Alexis. Twyla. Sorry to keep you waiting. Let’s begin, shall we?”
Rec [written by doingthemost]: Mind the tags on this one, as there's some medical angst a fair amount of hurt/comfort, but if you want to feel warm and taken care of just like Alexis and Twyla take care of each other in this beautiful lil' fic, look no further.

Popular:
I don't think I actually have any popular fics? 😂 But, I checked my stats, which I never do, and found out that She Sees You When You're Sleeping (with your husband) is the one with the most comments. Who can resist poor Marcy walking in on David and Patrick? REPEATEDLY. And if you don't know about the pantry scene, I don't know what to tell you. You need to read it for that alone.
Two Hidden Gems:
Firefly is a fun little fic where David, Patrick and Stevie take a trip to a fire hall to ogle fire fighters while lovingly trolling each other the whole time. I think it's really funny and there are some sweet David & Patrick moments.
Ray Butani: Undercover Matchmaker was such a labour of love. The whole story is coded in emails, and follows Patrick's journey from moving to Schitt's Creek through his wedding to David, all told through Ray's email inbox.

Today, I am recc'ing It's Time by Lisamc21. It's one I regularly reread because it's just so fucking sweet. David and Patrick have been pen pals for years, and finally have the opportunity to meet when Patrick graduates with his MBA. It's alternating pov, so you get delicious pining from both David and Patrick. Plus, Marcy and Clint being their wonderful selves, and Rachel as the Ultimate Wingwoman. It brings me incredible joy, so it's one of my go-tos no matter what mood I'm in 🥰🥰

I couldn’t pick just one of these wonderfully variable scenarios that all include just a little (or maybe a lot of) magic added to the perfect scene setting and banter.
Favored Nations (@blueink3)
ALL OF IT! It’s my go-to when I’m feeling down, when I need to revise our boys. The characters, writing, and plot are all amazing.
Amazing world building, very in character slow burn.
The ultimate slow burn, the perfect love story set amongst the wonders of Broadway and NYC.
It’s just so, so good! I am a sucker for secret romance fics, and this one has that and so much more. Add in some Shakespearean theater with a twist and just the right amount of angst and sexiness, it’s just perfect! I love it so much.
This author knows David, Patrick, and the NY theater world inside and out. The volume and level of specificity, volume, tenderness, anxiety, and love of these characters and worlds is astounding. The characterization is so vivid, it's the easiest fic to forget isn't canon.
Fifteen hundred miles (morehuman)
I go back to this fic a lot! I just love the idea of them both challenging themselves and finding out what they are capable of.
The most incredible journey, a gift to go along with them in it.

I love this transportative, visual feast of historic fiction. Luscious WW2 Paris is so vividly portayed and David’s wild, wealthy, LGBTIQ+out flamboyance juxtaposed to the farm-boy turned military-man Patrick is sexy and sweet. It undoes me every time. I actually first came to the piece via FairManor’s outstanding podfic. Both the text and the podfic are high art. It’s not just one of my favorite fan-fics. It’s one of my favorite stories of ALL time in any genre. I read/listen and I am at the Gaston, riding on the back of Patrick’s motorcycle, kissing in windmills, eating crepes, touring junk shops & dancing naked to 40’s blues. I’d give anything to see this as a film with Dan & Noah & cast. I want a leather bound print copy of it. Also - The epilogue is progressive, heartbreaking thoughtful genius. I’ve just finished rereading & listening to it again. Each time there are new Easter eggs to be found. Joyous.
It's just the most beautiful piece of writing ever written. Descriptive, lyrical, hot, stunning, heartbreaking. It has everything.

Achingly sweet and fluffy all set in the perfect baseball/famous AU with secret relationship AND musician Patrick. I come back to reread this one a lot!
What isn't there to love? Baseball, long distance relationship, sex, songs, coming out to the parents, coming out to the team, coming out to the world, excellent use of side characters....I could go on and on. There are so many amazing fics out there, but I've read this one at least a dozen times!

A beautifully written story of our boys meeting on vacation. Their trip is so sweet and so hot, and when they say goodbye, it's heartbreaking. The twist- they are both famous in their own worlds but don’t recognize each other so don’t realize who the other has hooked up with. When their week ends, they try to maintain a long-distance friendship as they learn who the other is. What was a hot hookup becomes a slow burn, and it’s amazing!!

Gorgeous writing, the perfect mix of canon and AU, clever plot, great dialogue. The fic I read over and over. It’s as comforting as a warm blanket.

Hot firefighters. Hot sex. Hot romance. But like in a Sandra loves Keanu sliding out of a speeding bus kind of way.
Hot hot hot! That’s the first work. Then- the author developed a prequel that is also hot but is also funny, loving, sweet. Love fireman Patrick!
This enemies-to-lovers-to-secret-husbands story featuring Patrick Brewer as a firefighter, is deliciously tropey and blazing hot, but also it’s written with such authentic emotion and perfect banter that it keeps me coming back to read it whenever I need a mood lift.

Great story, the very best jokes, and the wedding date chapter is so good it would work as a stand alone fic.
It's got the mother of all fake dating scenarios, and Stevie in this in among the best I've ever read her. It's also very very funny. All the times when they say Feel The Air crack me up every time!

This is a perfectly paced one-shot AU that builds a world in which David is a brilliant, stormy, reclusive artist whose whose treatment by the press (and one Sebastien Raine) has made him unwilling to engage with the world…. Until he meets an intuitive and kind art writer who sees him for everything that he is (and can be). All of characters here are perfect and I love the descriptions of David’s art.

It takes the David and Patrick rescue each other theme of the show and makes the stakes even higher. Plus it's just a genuinely beautiful piece of writing.
The story arc and pacing are fantastic. I love how David and Patrick's relationship develops and how Patrick learns to open himself up again after grief. It's incredibly well written. I've read it so many times, from full read thrus to dipping in and out of my favorite moments and chapters.
Patrick is so heartbroken, but then he meets David. So romantic, and feels lived in.
