He was so glad they finally had alone time. Patrick had appreciated all the help while they were moving in, not so much when they wouldn’t leave and all he wanted to do was fuck his husband. Luckily for him, David seemed to have the same game plan and they were shooing everyone out thirty minutes later.

David looked beautiful. He knew that David would argue with that statement saying he was sweaty, and sometimes made ridiculous faces but that was part of the charm. That and the way he would start chanting Patrick, Patrick, Patrick and he knew that was all because of him. He was the one who could make David a babbling wreck and as David’s rings reflected on the lamp, Patrick started giggling.

David lifted his head up, “Is there something you want to share here because I feel like I’m missing something?”

He slowly pulled out of David and maneuvered himself until his head was resting on David’s chest. “I was just thinking about how happy I am,” he replied, releasing a few more giggles.

“And that’s funny?,” David said as he placed a hand on Patrick’s neck.

“I didn’t think my life was gonna end up like this you know?,” he absentmindedly started playing with David’s chest hair, “like in theory yes, I could imagine being married or sharing a house, but I didn’t know that once I had the right person I could feel this good. I’ve been thinking about it a lot this week I guess.”

David leaned over the best he could to place a kiss on Patrick’s forehead, “You’re sincerity will be the death of me one day,” he rolled Patrick over, looking down at Patrick he noticed his growing smile, “Now, we were in the middle of something that I would very much like to continue.”

Patrick gripped David’s hips, giving a teasing thrust up, “I think that can be arranged.”

This month I’m doing the fic rec bingo created by wild-aloof-rebel. If you have time I suggest doing it, it’s been a lot of fun! I’m a glutton for punishment so I’m doing the whole blackout. Continuing on that path I’m also not repeating a single author or reccing fics that I have already recced before. I decided I wanted to make recs, but a little more in-depth, and because of this there may be some slight spoilers.

Summary: “Mr. Rose, what do you think you would do if released?”

Thoughts: This fic is to fufill the bingo square: A fic that you followed as a wip. Let me take you back in time to mid-May to mid-June 2019, Schitt’s Creek was filming the final season, Watching Through Windows and Language of Love: Part Two were updating at the same time, and I had finally started actually talking to people in the fandom. Which I think is why I remember this as a WIP so well because it was the first time I was talking to others about a fic. I had originally read this fic when it was just a post on Tumblr so I slammed that subscribe button so hard on this fic when it was published on ao3.

I would drop everything to read this fic when a new chapter updated. I have a distinct memory of being on a weekend trip with my sister and a friend and I remember reading a chapter update in the back of the car as my sister was driving down the interstate and I was eating an Olive Garden breadstick (gotta love the things your brain latches on to).

This fic is one of the best heist fics I’ve ever read. You don’t have to any knowledge of the Ocean’s franchise to read this although it does make it a little fun. It’s an a+ ensemble fic and while most of the time the fic is in David’s POV when we get the others they are just as delightful. I loved being able to guess little parts of fic right but still get delightfully surprised by other reveals.

Recommended if you like: Ensemble Pieces, Heist fics, and a fun breezy read for the weekend.

No you’re not wrong, I think David, Moira, and Alexis do the most physical comedy but yeah they all have little things.

David, its his facial expressions and mannerisms mostly. Alexis too, she has very good facial expressions and obviously her limp wrists and how she flips her hair. Moira when she was dramatic in S6 about how small their motel room was and almost collapsing to the floor was absolutely genius.

If anybody has any scenes that this lovely anon could use in their video, reblog with your suggestions or reply!

7. late nights (this is isn’t exactly it, but i hope that’s okay)

While he might have been upset that he wouldn’t be moving in with Patrick he had to admit that the space seemed to suit him. There hadn’t been too much to move since Patrick hadn’t brought much to Schitt’s Creek and the furniture had been delivered to the apartment in the afternoon. David had spent much of the day helping Patrick imagine the space and what it could look like, along with reading off the instructions and occasionally helping Patrick assembly said furniture.

Patrick adamantly wanted the bed put together before night, which David thought was a good decision. It was difficult at points, the frame fell from David’s grasp barely managing not to hit his feet. Once it was assembled, they spent five minutes laid out on the mattress to catch their breath. Getting up, Patrick started one of David’s playlists and began unpacking boxes. David soon joined him, occasionally asking questions on where Patrick wanted something or stopping unpacking long enough to have Patrick dance with him, giving them a bit of a break.

An hour later, they were sitting on the sofa, a pizza box open on the coffee table.

“This was a much-earned break,” David said as he sat his plate on the table.

“At this point, we can be done for the night, the rest of it can be left for tomorrow,” Patrick said.

David gently pawed at Patrick’s chest, “But do we want to do that? What if one of us gets up in the night and trips over a box?”

Patrick kissed David’s forehead, “I mean if you want to do more work that’s fine by me or we could just push them up against the wall and spend the rest of the night doing a much more fun activity.”

David slid his hands under Patrick’s shirt, “That does sound reasonable.”

“Well, I’m a reasonable guy.”

David moved to sit in Patrick’s lap, placing his arms around Patrick’s neck as he leaned in to kiss him.

David looked around at the stacked boxes and sighed. He and Patrick had been packing most of the day. When he’d helped Patrick move in, it didn’t feel like he had as much stuff. Of course, Patrick added some things and David had added his own things. They’d already packed David’s things he’d left at the motel yesterday, which as David sat down on the bed, he was glad they had.

Arms wrapped around his waist, while lips pressed at his neck, "Whatcha thinking about?,” Patrick mumbled into David’s skin.

David leaned his head back giving Patrick move access to his neck, “About how much it’s gonna take to move all of this and then unpack it all.”

Patrick nipped at his neck before giving the spot a kiss, “Yeah, but we’re moving into our home.”

David gripped Patrick’s forearm, “I do love that, but I think I might miss this place a little? We’ve made memories and so much of our relationship has happened here, it feels a little hard to say goodbye."

"Well, we aren’t moving until tomorrow so we still have time to make some memories,” Patrick slid one hand down to rest on David’s thigh.

David hummed in approval, “Just know I will not be getting up early to move.”

“Oh, I already planned for that,” Patrick said as he leaned in to give him a kiss.

Thoughts: This was chosen to fufill the bingo square: A fic you stayed up way too late reading. I know many people have included this fic in their bingo and for good reason. I will admit what I consider late is different then other people but I looked back at the time stamps on my comments and probably stayed up until midnight or later reading this. Part of it was by my own design because I didn’t start reading until chapter four because I didn’t read at the beginning and since it was so long I thought I would wait until it was finished. And then my friends wouldn’t stop talking about it and I caved and then I madly rushed to catch up. That said it was totally worth it.

I just love that this fic gives such a thorough exploration of Patrick’s identity and just him as a character. We get to see him grow in the town, make (queer!) friends, and learn what he wants in life. The last time I read this I was stuck at the airport for six hours so if that ever happens to you 10/10 recommend that you read this because the time just flys by (pun not intended).

A lot of people can put in better words why this fic is so good, so instead I’ll leave you a snippet of what I put on my comment for the final chapter: “… The ending was fantastic and once again I cried. It really captured the growth that Patrick experienced in the town and I just let out this big sigh and it felt like all the tension and worry I had for Patrick while reading this was finally allowed to leave because he was finally and truly comfortable with himself.”

It takes really living together for a while for David to fully register that he’s not the only one who deals with anxiety. He slowly begins to pick up on Patrick’s coping mechanisms, realizing that they are more than just personality traits. His love of spreadsheets helps to organize his thoughts. He keeps the ones for the store on their Google Drive and David has found him more than once, on a weeknight or a Sunday morning, scrolling through them on his phone for a few minutes, not making changes, just scrolling…looking at the numbers all lined up where he put them days before.

He also likes to re-watch baseball games, the same games, over and over, even though the plays never change and the score remains the same. He tells David it’s like background noise, something he can enjoy without having to wonder if things will work out, if his team will win or lose. David recognizes this, as he has favorite books he does this with, passages of text he can just scan with his eyes, not needing to read the words as he knows every syllable by heart.

Unlike David, he’s not prone to vocalize when he’s feeling troubled, but David learns to pick up on those cues, too. There’s one afternoon in late summer and they’ve had a slow week at the store, prompting Patrick to scroll through those spreadsheets more than normal, constantly picking up his phone even as his game plays on the TV. David senses he could use a distraction and offers one up. He calls Patrick into the bedroom, immediately directing him to the bed where he’s pulled Excel up on their laptop and asks him for help. They spend the next two hours cataloging David’s knits together, making columns for color theme, designer, weather weight, material and even wearability. He wants to argue that wearability shouldn’t be a factor, because it’s fashion, but Patrick enjoys the debate so much that he relents. Not on whether something is wearable, but on the inclusion of the column. They even have to call Stevie and Alexis to get intel on the sweaters they’ve stolen, prompting more laughs and ganging up on David, but he takes the abuse.

In the end, it turns out to be an enjoyable afternoon, one that leaves Patrick smiling for the rest of the night, his spreadsheets for the store on his phone forgotten and the weight on his shoulders obviously lifted.

He doesn’t need to know that David already has a detailed catalogue of his knits in one of his journals, with records dating back at least ten years.

Of course, Patrick’s well aware of this, but he keeps quiet and just lets himself be loved.

Tiny little headcanon Tuesday:

During the winter months, Patrick always gets chilled easily. David of course is cold year round, but when Winter hits it’s Patrick who’s uncharacteristically freezing and wearing heavy sweaters. They buy a little space heater for the back room at the store and Patrick brings his grey zip up hoodie in his backpack to wear when they close and count the tills. David buys a very warm fuzzy blanket that’s kept on their couch, and gets Patrick the warmest gloves because he always complains about how freezing the steering wheel in his car is when he first gets in.

Happy Headcanon Tuesday! Just a lil one today

Sometimes I like to think about David and Patrick going on vacation somewhere tropical and beachy. When they decide they can finally take a vacation, David obviously shoots for the stars and suggests an over the water bungalow in Fiji but they end up somewhere much less expensive but still lovely. They eat lots of delicious food and take long walks on the beach at sunset… all of the cliche vacation with the love of your life stuff. There somehow happens to be a nude beach and there are accompanying shoulder wiggles when David tells him “I had no idea, Patrick! …But, I mean, since we’re here………..” Patrick feels bold with David by his side so he just goes along with it. They may or may not both end up with sand in very uncomfortable places that day but… worth it. David has a natural ability to tan but Patrick isn’t so lucky. Even slathered with sunscreen, he ends up burning and David gets the pleasure of covering him with aloe at night when they get back to their room. They sit out on the balcony, watching the sunset and listening to the waves, all wrapped around each other and deliriously in love. They’re relaxed and so very, very happy.

He wakes up with the morning sun with the faint memory of loneliness. Sometimes, that old melancholy just faintly passes by him, the leftovers from a lifetime ago. Memories of a time when he disconnected from people, from the world around him. Memories of people who cared less about him and more about what he could offer them. They don’t come often now but they still come.

He’s pressed between two warm bodies, keeping him in, keeping him safe. While they tend to sleep with David’s head on Patrick’s shoulder, there are nights like these where the cold snuggles them up under piles of blankets and piles of each other. Patrick is nestled in behind him and Blue is curled up like a little comma in the alcove of his bent knees. He’s surrounded by his little family and yet still, sometimes that safety reminds him of the time when it didn’t exist.

He aches for that time. Not because he wants to return to it but because if he could just for a second meet that version of himself, tell him to hold on, that good things were coming….well he wouldn’t have believed it so maybe that wasn’t the point. Maybe the point was to remember that time to know how much he should hold on to the present. Hold on to this warm little cocoon that surrounds him on a winter morning and know, at last, good things are meant for him too.

Patrick’s hand grips tighter to his shirt as Blue quietly woofs in his sleep at some invisible squirrel. And David holds on to them and lets the rest go as he drifts back to sleep.

(This is part of a 5+1 that I think my brain is finally allowing me to write)
